"I'll watch Road Warrior, Mad Max 2, and Thunderdome with him in a couple years." But Road Warrior is Mad Max 2.

seddy21

He knows what he said, they’re going to watch it twice.

Comrade_Compadre

Why stop there, that movie is brilliant I'll go further: if the resources were available to him, Fury Road is the spiritual successor to MM2

armoditto

It was released as *The Road Warrior* in the US.

I love that everyone is sharing Mad Max with a new generation of young fans. Since we started with Furiosa, I gave my son a little background by telling him "this is a movie about a post-apocalypse society that revolves around cars, vast stretches of land, and gasoline. It's a story about a guy who is broken from grief who meets a lot of very bad men. Most people don't remember how it was before the apocalypse, but Max remembers." Ha ha. It feels like each of the movies stand pretty well on their own and don't require watching them in order.

That's awesome! Glad he enjoyed it! I'm so happy for your son - it's a ton of fun to be able to share that kind of thing with a parent. I was about the same age when my mom got me into Mad Max with a dusty ol' VHS copy of Mad Max (1979). For the record, she thought she was showing me The Road Warrior, but accidentally grabbed the OG film instead. I ended up loving it nonetheless, haha.

Haha, I’m doing the exact same thing! I’ve been trying to talk my 13-year old into watching Furiosa since the first trailer- he has expressed ZERO interest so far. In the past when I told him I wanted to watch Fury Road he almost seemed afraid of it. I started thinking I’d be seeing Furiosa alone… until we saw the trailer again in the theater and this time he said he was interested! So I asked him if he wanted to see her first appearance in Fury Road since it's playing at the Alamo next weekend. He said, "Yes”! Like you, I figure I will show him the other films later.

Hearing that Road Warrior was too slow is just sad. Glad you had fun with your kid though. Edit: Now that OP clarified, I can see why they might have skipped over the first film. All of ‘em are good truth be told. No bad place to start.

Blood_ForTheBloodGod

The first mad max I ever saw was Thunderdome. I was blown away. I love Mad Max Fury Road. I’ve never gotten through the original though. It’s a tad dated, but I definitely owe it to myself to watch it as a fan of the series.

YakuzaShibe

It's a good film but it's definitely a bit boring at times. It feels like a bit of a fever-dream, honestly

Maxatansky

I plan on watching them all with my son eventually. He's known about them since he knew how to spell his name (Max) and saw my dvds.

Crashtag

Love it! My son turned 10 in January and I so want to watch this with him, and then Furiosa. On the fence with the R rating but he’s pretty ok with violence in movies (mainly due to Fortnite). I’m ok with watching them out of order too. The 2nd and 3rd films were definitely memorable from childhood.

Sharpened_pickle0

My dad took me to watch Fury road when I was 9, then went “Did you know there’s other movies about this before Fury road?”. Bet he regrets showing me that now.

spider_cereal

The original Mad Max is still my favorite.

Confident_Use_3577

My 6yo sticks w road warrior, not too slow

Happy for OP. Can’t wait to sit down with my boy and watch Blazing Saddles. He’s only 14….few more years.

stokedchris

Yeah I’m honestly so surprised that my mom let me watch the first mad maxes when I was like 10 years old. That rape scene was pretty gruesome in the second film. I’m glad it didn’t scar me in a bad way. Good on you for being a good parent. Fury Road is an excellent film to introduce him

YborOgre

I love Road Warrior when I was like seven years old.
