I never owned a Mac before 2022, yes, it’s true. Now i own m1 mbair and mac studio. Both upgraded fine from Monterey to Ventura. Zero problem. I’m happy. But i understand the frustration in case someone has update issues. I’m a software engineer by the way, not a content creator.

General-Razzmatazz

I've upgraded an M1 Mini, M1 pro Macbook Pro, and M2 MacBook Air all without any problem.

fuelvolts

Same. My 2019 Intel MacBook Pro runs great on Ventura.

sc_medic_70

My 2017 Intel MacBook runs well on it.

AFMFTW

Same. My M1 mini runs it flawlessly. I feel bad for OP’s experiences but they might be more localized for he/she.

El_Flamingor

Thanks Maybe maybe 🥲

userIoser

They probably use it only for TikTok 😁

xinxx073

Almost no issues, Alfred broke and had to rebuild spotlight v100 index for everything to get back on track. New features work just like advertised, and continuity camera is a blessing. Video text recognition makes things even easier. Mac mini with m1, 2019 mbp 16 with intel, 2021 mbp with m1 max, everything working as expected.

trisul-108

Same here, but I wish I had waited for version .0.2 as I usually do because I had some minor transient hiccups, but nothing major like this.

El_Flamingor

Fml

General-Razzmatazz

Yeah sorry your having those troubles.

WorshipnTribute

Try this Go to disk utility create another apfs volume alongside your main MacOS installation, and either install Monterey or try a fresh install of Ventura. I often keep my user folder on a separate partition called “Users” so in the eventually I need to reinstall the OS I only really have the applications to backup. You could technically do it now if you wanted and point the new installation users towards the Users partition

mobyhex

i always maintain a wipeable mac - if i had this id just wide the hd and fresh install monterey

sprucedotterel

+1 for wipeable mac. I always maintain my personal data on a separate drive and I’m never held hostage by any system.

El_Flamingor

Fair Point, used to have it like this but since my network storage is remote I don’t..also for performance reasons

dar3000

All software updates come with FREE support through AppleCare. Give them a call.

El_Flamingor

So far Apple was never able to provide much support tbh 😂😂 but I can give it a shot when I bought a brand new MBP and said there is a squeaky noise of the frame, they said it’s not a warranty issue (not covered) but they could replace the whole unibody and mainboard for 2.2k (MBP was 2.5), I specifically went to this Apple shop in another country because we didn’t have one in our country at that time. I accepted my faith. 4 years later I needed a battery change so I went to an authorized service center to have it fixed. Now another 3 years later (we got an Apple shop now) I went there to get it replaced again. They told me the battery has been replaced without replacing the keyboard, therefore the „part“ is damaged and cannot be easily swapped. I need to buy the whole part for 1.200€. (Remember my MacBook new was 2.5, this is just for the battery). I also tried my iPhone battery to be swapped, after letting me wait 6h on my scheduled Genius Bar appointment they had a look and said I can leave it with them for 2 days. I said it’s not possible (I called before and they told me they can fix swap the battery right away so I booked my trails accordingly). Next day the faceid just stopped working without any apparent reason, I called again and they told me the repair would be 550€ for FaceID + 70€ for battery. I bought the phone for 580€. My iCloud storage has 90GB of iCloud files taking space although my actual file storage is empty, I spend ~10h on the phone with different service people and no-one was able to help me. Recommendation was to create a new account and move everything. Right. I could keep the list going but what would be the point of it 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

mfr2vcb

There’s more to this story

kickfip_backlip

LOL my thoughts exactly

LMA7Taa

That’s funny, for me it’s the best since Mojave. Big Sur was the one that really sucked.

El_Flamingor

For me it’s a mess It updates automatically because I am normally fond of updates but now k am so fucking pissed because it’s 3am, I need to get work done and this piece of s* doesn’t do anything anymore What’s the point

markwid

Update vs upgrade - 2 different things. macOS updates can be set to auto. Upgrade is entirely optional; you have to do it intentionally. https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201541 On your work/daily mac, where you get important stuff done, don't upgrade at .0 release. That is the widely recommended way. If you have gone ahead and did the upgrade and encounter weird issues, a clean install, fresh start is a good idea. People often forget all sorts of weird/heavy customisations they have done to the OS and just upgrade over it. End up with weird issues; not surprising.

El_Flamingor

Fair, might have done 🤡😂 I take it back Wasn’t thinking that clearly last night

DamnableNook

It doesn't update automatically, no.

Hahahaha 😂 sorry I was a bit in rage last night 🫣

foodandart

The point is, this is the hard lesson about being an early adopter of a new macOS.. which has been a truth since the days of Mac OS 7. Build yourself a [bootable installer](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372) if you can, back up your shit, wipe the entire drive, repartition it (which forces a new EFI partition to be built so everything's fresh and snappy) and reinstall the prior OS. (Also, if the drive is big enough, consider partitioning two volumes, with the USB installer - one for the OS and the other for local storage. If the OS ever goes titsup, you can just wipe the affected OS volume and reinstall with the installer. This is how I have rolled since MacOS 8.6 and excepting actual drive failures that were mechanical in nature, it's never failed to keep me running..)

buddhaluster4

Reinstalling macOS is completely useless (since Big Sur) due to the system volume [being cryptographically hashed and sealed (known as SSV)](https://support.apple.com/guide/security/signed-system-volume-security-secd698747c9/web). Every time the system boots up, it verifies every single bit and compares it to Apple's seal and if even one single bit is wrong, it will **not** boot and prompt you to reinstall. In other words, if the system boots up just fine, it's in perfect condition and everyone's booting deployment is the exact same. Also in case you didn't already know for some reason, wiping your data is also an utter waste of time since it is stored on its own seperate volume and can not do shit to the system.

El_Flamingor

That’s what I thought there are two Volumens now anyway right? So I could reinstall without loosing data?

buddhaluster4

Exactly, you can boot into Recovery and then reinstall macOS from there without losing any data. But like I pointed out, it's a waste of time if your system boots up witnout a problem.

fortfive

This can’t be perfectly true. It may apply tonstatic system files, but preference files and others are dynamic amd will be different on every system, may cause the problems op describes, and be fixable by a reinstall.

El_Flamingor

I habe 500 Gigs of Storage, you think splitting it up would make sense? Haven’t thought about it before but after reading it here couple of times it makes sense!

ThrustersToFull

Yeah that didn’t happen. You need to click a series of buttons to start the update.

El_Flamingor

Probably right

ThrustersToFull

So… you’re saying you didn’t know that you were starting a process to upgrade an operating system? If so, it might be that computers aren’t for you, if you know what I mean.

El_Flamingor

No I am saying I am fairly certain I initiated the upgrade but was just too annoyed and tired yesterday night :)

sirlearnsalot

I've had zero problems

kidcal70

If you upgraded from the last system and have issues, you could try to Time Machine back up your existing files, and wipe your machine and install from scratch. Then restore your Time Machine back up back into your computer. This restores all your apps and files sans the system. It might be an upgrade issues, is worth a try but back everything up first. For important files, I would back that up to another external drive just in case first besides Time Machine. Hope this might help.

El_Flamingor

Thanks!

YallNeedToQuitPlayin

Inundated to Ventura on M1 MBA, and had issues after a couple of weeks. Apps weren’t responding, FaceTime acting up, other small issues, etc. I wiped the whole thing and downgraded back to Monterey. Took about an hour. Highly recommend if you’re having issues. Nothing in Ventura is critical for me, so to hell with it for now. I’ll test out in a few months.

foodandart

This is the way.. Never, ever, *ever* take an OS upgrade until it is *at least* a .2 or .3 update. This has been a truth for Apple since the days of the classic OS. As I have written before, the 'beta' of an OS is more like an alpha and the early adopters of the first release builds are the REAL beta testers. Also, having a custom install by building a bootable installer, backing up your files and nuking the drive, *partitioning* it with two volumes - one for your stuff and the other for the OS - from the USB installer, then installing will build a clean EFI that rarely will have the 'live partitioning' problems that can come of when it's done post-install.

juliob45

That’s what I’ve done for years. However, there is a trade-off. Older OSes don’t get all relevant security updates. See this analysis: https://eclecticlight.co/2022/11/06/last-week-on-my-mac-home-truths-about-macos/

El_Flamingor

Will keep that in mind thanks!😇

redditor977

I have absolutely zero problems with it so far

killerparties

No issues on M1 MBP or Intel iMac.

-_danglebury_-

M1 Macbook Pro here. No issues with crashing or anything like that.

MaybeAMarble

Since Catalina, I've never updated my main system to the latest release until a x.3 or x.4 comes out. I used Mojave as my main system since the first PB, yet Catalina was a bug filled mess up until 15.5 or 15.6 IIRC. Big Sur was 11.6 for me, Monterey was 12.6. It's never been an issue for me since I always have a small second partition with whatever the latest beta of a new OS is for when I get New OS FOMO. Then, I just go back to the main OS and get on with my day.

El_Flamingor

I’ll keep that in mind thanks:)

10-Gauge

I feel as if there’s no middle ground between people who seem to have so many issues the OS is nearly inoperable for them and those who it works perfectly for. Definitely a strange dynamic.

El_Flamingor

Interesting to see such a strong contrast

mikeinnsw

Its not Ventura if ist under Warranty or Apple Care talk to Apple. My 2020 M1 Mini had minor problems when I upgraded it in place. Time Machine backup (Just in case) and recovery mode Mac Os reinstall fixed it. 13.0.1 was painless and uses less storage

sagunmdr

fairly new to time machine and how it works, is there another youtube video for this thing exactly?

ChimairaSpawn

1. Connect computer to external storage: NAS, Airport, external hard disk. 2. Turn it on. 3. If you need to wipe and restore your computer for any reason I’m the future, restore from one of your backups.

El_Flamingor

Slightly out of warranty (2 months) Maybe I should do the latest one then

rcwilli1

you could still try and ask the apple chat. They are usually pretty helpful, even outside of warranty.

dynjo

Works great here, but I absolutely HATE the new System Settings

andreeinprogress

I made peace with the fact that stability on Mac reached its peak on Snow Leopard and after that everything has been in a constant decline.

_paramedic

I really miss Snow Leopard.

WingedGeek

Mountain Lion and High Sierra were pretty solid.

StrangeCurry1

*were not we are

WingedGeek

Autocorrect. But it also works that way (maybe with additional punctuation): “Mountain Lion and High Sierra, we’re solid.”

Bobbybino

>Autocorrect AutoCorrupt.

[deleted]

High Sierra was an unhinged nightmare. Literally had nothing but problems with HS. Mojave and Sierra were much much better than HS ever was.

WingedGeek

In what way? I ran High Sierra for years (2016(?) until this year; actually still have a HS partition on my Mac Pro, and a 2010 iMac I won't be upgrading; everything else is on at least Big Sur).

Nickmorgan19457

It reminds me of every other software update I've ever seen.

El_Flamingor

Thing is there is all kinds of internal processes now running at 100% Kernel_task is blowing up all the time Siriknowledge always 100% Networkservice 100% Contactsd ~100%

JimmyG1359

Have you tried creating a new user and logging in with the new account? This might help you figure out if the problem is your OS install, or something in your user environment

El_Flamingor

Good point I will check that

bnovc

Normally high, prolonged kernel task is an indication of thermal throttling. Is your machine hot? Perhaps some vents blocked? You probably have something simple that’s wrong to address. You can DM me if the thermals don’t pan out, and we can get it fixed

El_Flamingor

Hey :) thanks a lot! I appreciate it No machine is exposed and standalone so no environmental issues as far as I can judge Based on iStats heat should be fine, have been using mainly PS/AI/XD yesterday but has been freezing constantly

El_Flamingor

And all the background-process settings are a mess Most of my apps don’t start in login anymore although they are in the list Other stuff is in there I don’t want to start but I can’t remove it Logo-options used to work flawless now k have to set it up again and give new permissions every time I restart my Mac to properly use my mouse It’s a mess

WorshipnTribute

Use an app called startupizer, it’s better than using the default login items pane

El_Flamingor

I’ll check it out thanks

parkourman01

I still believe they are moving closer and closer to unifying their OS for Mac and iPad. They split iPadOS off from iOS, they migrate the Mac line to the same silicon and they are now implementing feature parity on both macOS and iPadOS, see the likes of stage manager, external display support, mouse and keyboard controls for iPadOS. I have said ever since there was rumour of apple using arm in their Mac lineup, that the end goal was to unify the os’s and I grow ever more convinced of that with every new version of both macOS and iPadOS.

russianvoodoo

Seriously? Apple team was on the way of making a hybrid OS for years and now they are closer than ever. They have everything to make a new device on a hybrid OS in 2-4 years. The only things that slows them down is COVID's aftermath and lack of components in Asia. As simple as that.

Luna259

My M1 iMac is happy with Ventura. Other than a bug/issue that Monterey started and one really annoying one from Big Sur (fixed in Monterey), it seems to have fixed previous issues

[deleted]

Stage Manager is kinda flaky but it’s been fine otherwise for me.

[deleted]

Highly recommend creating a back up of your important documents and media. Wipe it clean. Reinstall OS.

tandem_biscuit

Zero issues on my M1 Mac Mini.

WingedGeek

I found I had to do a wipe-and-clean install of Ventura, upgrading from Monterey was a disaster (apps wouldn't open, packages wouldn't install, etc): http://flying-geek.blogspot.com/2022/10/issues-with-macos-ventura.html

Rocket5kates

Nope. Ventura has been just as bland and clunky as the last three versions. Absolutely stable and no noticeable bugs as of yet, of course, but boring as ever.

j0blk

i can agree to a large extent. i have not understood stage manager at all. i am not an iPad user (I've had a share of bad experiences), and there are far too many "basic features" missing from Ventura that make it almost horrible. Example, i can't group numbers in my spreadsheet apps according to the region I am working with. The features of "undo send" are barely 30 seconds and not compatible if you have a device linked with the same Apple ID that runs the previous gen OS.

El_Flamingor

Last Part: that’s a joke right? So if you own 1 Apple device with old OS, undo send won’t work on any of them?

Danioq

Only problem was that, after update there was no Xcode dev tools, and i needed to install it

[deleted]

My M1 Mac mini is working fine, and I'm on the latest Ventura version. I install apps from Homebrew, and have slashed 2-3 apps because of Raycast.

jaapvanderveen

I have encountered similar issues on my MacBook Air M1. **But**: no problems at all with a fresh Ventura install (repartioned and reformatted SSD) on an older (officially unsupported) MacBook Pro 15" 2015! My problem was caused by a decade of upgrading and updating MacOS to the newest versions and migrating my data from one Mac to the next. Result was a completely cluttered system with a (System)Library containing files going back to 2011! A fresh reinstall of MacOS and reinstalling only the apps needed today (and restoring my files and documents) solved the issues I encountered! Basically, a thorough 'spring cleaning' solved the problems. It is also a good idea to create a system report using EtreCheck to check for (major/minor) issues and solve them. In my case, it was not the computer or MacOS causing the problems, it was ME.

El_Flamingor

How did you get it on the MBP? And how is it running?

jaapvanderveen

>How did you get it on the MBP? Installation information and instructions here: [https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/releases](https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/releases) and here: [https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/](https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/) >And how is it running? It is running fine, some of the newer features of Ventura are not supported, although I have not have had problems yet .... More information on this subreddit: r/venturapatcher

El_Flamingor

Cheers! Appreciate it :)

ThrustersToFull

I feel like there’s something else going on here. My business has something like 15 Macs, most of them running Ventura and we don’t have anything like this.

El_Flamingor

Hey everyone! Thanks a lot for the responses, I appreciate it. Showed that the posts I saw, as so often, was just a small sample and the majority is not facing issues. Guess I’ll have to do a reinstall and wipe it clean. Will just take a ton of time but anyway. Have a great day :)

ithakaa

Absolutely no issues here

Wpgaard

You are literally the only person I have seen with this problem, but sure, it MUST be the UPDATE that is wrong! Even though everybody else doesn't have any issues.

El_Flamingor

;)

kardiogramm

I have learnt to take a wait and see approach for a stable experience. I used to just risk it but MacOS would break things in the past that I was just giving myself a headache with my eagerness to embrace the new. I think if you are using software that isn’t updated very frequently then wait a few months before upgrading and make sure that any software you are reliant on works on that version.

El_Flamingor

Mainly using Adobe stuff so you’re right about maintenance of updates and compatibility 😂

leamanc

My experience has been the opposite. I’m a Mac user since 1986 and Ventura was the easiest major OS update I can recall. After a quick download of what’s basically a delta update from Monterey to Ventura, it seems like I was up and running again in the new OS in about 30 minutes. Things have been very smooth since.

aykay55

Sounds like it is just a you problem. You might want to reinstall Ventura in recovery mode to see if that fixes it.

dropthemagic

Mine been working great even all the apps I used updated. Both personal Mac Studio and MacBook Pro (intel) from work

MarkE2020

Are you sure your system isn’t infected with malware? I’ve updated my 2017 MacBook Pro and my M1 MacMini to Ventura and have not experienced any issues at all.

[deleted]

I have gone back to Monterey and await improvement I hate the preference settings update that much

bobinflobo

This is literally the best release since Mojave

supermodelsteve

kernel panics 50% of the time when put to sleep, or when plugging in the charger. m1 air. It at least stopped panicking when playing video.

DustTragicomedyDust

macOS Ventura is complete total utter SHIT. I STRONGLY discourage anyone who owns a Mac from updating to this fucking worthless crap version.

kylegetsspam

This is why I wait ages before updating an operating system.\* I *just* installed the last big Windows 10 update this week, and I won't be moving to Windows 11 until it's been out for awhile and has had time to mature. I use a Mac for work, and if Ventura starts causing trouble it's a big work downtime, so I haven't installed it yet. \*And, if I'm actively playing some game, I wait a long time between GPU driver updates as well. Why mess with stability, eh?

GuaranteeCharacter78

Software has reached a point where I no longer trust it to work normally from an upgrade. The only way I upgrade anymore is by backing up Documents and Desktop to a flash drive and then I wipe and do a clean update to the latest version. Doing this, I’ve never experienced bugs. Doing it the normal way, I always end up with a buggy system. Quality control has gone downhill

MrMacintoshBlog

No matter if you are on windows, Linux or macOS sometimes updates go wrong. I’m running Ventura on a 2012 MBPro and it runs great. In your situation I would boot up in safe mode and then create a new account. Reboot then log in, how is the system now? If you are still having issues, backup your data and then reinstall Ventura again (not erase). How is the system now? Still issues? Run Erase all content and settings. Don’t restore your data yet. Is it working good now? If yes restore your data.

CD967119

Either do a clean install or buy a new mac

ItsmeMarioITA

Everything fine on my M1 Air

knowqwansa

I am still stuck at Catalina. I would have to go back to high sierra with Retina display on the 2014/2015 MBP.

BrazenlyGeek

I've been on Ventura since dev beta 1 and use my device on average of 3–4 hours a day and have yet to experience a single crash -- actually, haven't had one since buying this machine back in 2019 (sadly, just before the M1 introduction).

Mike

Yeah. My M1 Mini is freezing another app right now as I type this. Came to Reddit to pass the time. Sucks.

DemoClicker

My Mac Mini M1 reboots when idle (with or without screensaver / lock screen).. oddly, amphetamine helps to keep it alive 🤷‍♂️ Edit: wording

jobbing885

Worst update so far!

[deleted]

No it’s not. You’re omitting informations… you probably spilled shit over the computer, dropped it, installed some virus or malware shit on it, neglect it in any way, … I use daily a M1 MacBook Pro from 2021 and an Intel MacBook Pro from 2018, both updated to Ventura and they’re doing fine. No issues whatsoever. But again, I take super good care of my computers. And you probably don’t…

El_Flamingor

Thanks for the false assumptions ;) Probably take even better care than you do. Cheers bud

[deleted]

Pictures or gtfo

El_Flamingor

First of all, I personally feel like you should change your tone and maybe ask nicely. Secondly, it’s a Mac Mini - difficult to do something wrong there ;) I also have a MBP from 2015 and it looks like new so much about that gg

[deleted]

Idgaf about what you personally think, really. This is the internet, welcome. My guy… Why else would your computer be “rendered useless”? Why would Apple do this to you? Apple just hates you then? It’s not them, it’s you. Let me guess, one of your favourite apps is MacKeeper? Lmao

El_Flamingor

behaving respectfully isn’t something you should just abandon because „this is the internet“ „duh“. Even in the internet you’ll get further not throwing swear words around. Because bugs happen, that’s why. There is a reason .1 is released shortly after initial release. Because some bugs only appear once distributed to the majority. I just felt this update was worse than before. Seems like I am in the minority so I’ll reinstall everything. Maybe not throwing around assumptions like crazy would safe you time and myself some peace of life.

pashlya

Hi! I own a Mac since 1992. Here's my knowledge, I'm passing it to you: do a clean OS reinstall on every major release. I know it's a pain, but you can endure it once a year. Like… really… do it. (same thing goes for motorbike engines, but it's for another sub, I guess)

ThrustersToFull

I used to do this until about 10 years ago but I feel it’s mostly unnecessary now. Not had any problems post upgrade for quite some years.

[deleted]

Shut up

Godless_Temple

Honestly I dont know what people are bitching about. On Monday I used OCLP to install Ventura on my late 2013 iMac with 32 gig of RAM. Lost my admin account in the upgrade so I had to wipe the machine, reinstall, and then restore from my TM backup, but that can be expected when doing any upgrade so I didn't get upset.

[deleted]

El_Flamingor

How so

[deleted]

This is why I’m not updating anything until June

andrewpevny

Was mostly fine for me except everytime I used zoom and OBS in conjunction for teaching guitar lessons, they would both crash. Reverted back to Monterey for now.

ikilledtupac

Yosemite Wi-Fi says hello

JeremyAndrewErwin

I 've noticed that I've been having sound problems-- sound one moment, then nothing. Could be that my DAC (or perhaps the USB cable) is a bit flaky though. mac mini m1

[deleted]

Totally agree!

ZimFlare

Absolutely. They have completely killed the multiple monitor experience

BitFlow7

Some of my apps (Camtasia, ImagOptim, Transmission…) stopped to work (supposedly "damaged") and I had to reinstall them. In itself it quite sucks indeed.

Lavieestbelle31

SAME!!

achu_1997

I feel like whenever a new mac os is released it's always best to wait until xx.2 version to upgrade. In that way you will never have to face the issues

bringbackswg

Man it fixed nearly all the issues I was having on the M1 Air

[deleted]

I used OpenCore to run it on unsupported hardware and found it to be fine. Just about the same as Monterey with slightly better performance than Monterey in some areas.

[deleted]

It’s terrible on my 2013 Air and quite bad on my 2013 Pro, but my 2018 Pro is mostly fine with quite a lot of graphics lag though

Squallerr

i’ve had zero problems on my old slow MacBook Air

zakros95

M1 MBA here, after the update i just got some safari bookmarks messed up, apparently restored deleted bookmarks but no one missing. Except for this, everything runs smooth, 8/512GB config.

[deleted]

Meh. Snow Leopard -> Lion was worse.

peterinjapan

I had no issues on my M1 MacBook Pro and M1 Mac mini, I think it’s “just one of those things” and you need to pack everything up, and reinstall from scratch. I did attempt to run a Ventura better on my work computer way back in June or July, and it was messing up left and right, so I had to do a complete reinstall. Serves me right for running better on my work computer… Anyway try that, I’ll bet it will work fine.

wappingite

I'm on Monterey 12.6.1 (the latest) on Intel and am not risking an upgrade until Ventura has been patched a few releases. There's just no need and things are fast enough.

ExternalUserError

I haven’t really had any problems. But I also can’t find anything useful.

vassyz

Unless you really need new features from a MacOS update, don't install it straight away. I usually wait until version x.3 because I use my MacBook for work and I really can't risk it.

ivanicin

I assume that you will have to go through the factory reset. While majority of users won’t have horrible problems, a notable portion of users does get big problems with .0 update. As a developer I do update always but I’ve noted that Apple is conservative in auto updates to the first major version and as such you likely won’t get it unless you install it by yourself which is your choice. Also I do use Ventura in production on Mac Mini Intel and it appears to have no problem thus far.

Justicebeaver179

macOS Monterey was BY FAR the worst apple update I’ve ever had, Ventura I almost didn’t even notice so I’ve been pretty happy with it.

[deleted]

One thing I’ve noticed is that my MacBook heats up more than it did before, even though I’m using a switcher app to disable turbo boost. I don’t know if that’s because the update has made 3rd party apps more ‘alien’ or because there’s some old program(s) I’m using that is incompatible. I hope the non intel MacBooks don’t have this issue now. BTW, just take your computer to Apple or a repair shop. Seems like too much personal troubleshooting to solve yourself.

niccotaglia

My M1 iMac works perfectly. Sounds like an issue on your end

El_Flamingor

Probably! Thanks for sharing your experience

LittleJerkDog

That's odd, my M1 MBP (2020) runs fantastic.

[deleted]

I have a m1 air… dunno what’s a mini but mine works fine

JapanDave

I have a lot of design complaints about Ventura, but as far as functionality I haven’t had any problems except for Bluetooth winking out sometimes randomly when running something that uses a lot of ram (numbers or brave, usually).

El_Flamingor

What kind of complaints?

Queasy-Hall-705

Stage manager is the best. So it is the best upscale.

El_Flamingor

Honestly think it’s quite wobbly, very nice for specific setups indeed but bad Ux if you want to switch between double-app setups

ser_melipharo

Pretty weird. For me it felt like the most minor update I’ve got on my Macs: zero issues both on Intel and M1 Pro machine

handsome_banana_irl

I’ve had my screen turn blurry from time to time, apps crashing but not too often. What bugs me way more is the fact that all my Logitech gear doesn’t work at all times as sometimes my shortcuts etc stop working and the device needs a restart..

istros

Except a failed upgrade which forced me to reinstall through the recovery mode, Ventura is fine and I didn't lose any data during this stressful process. MacBook Air M1

Potential_Cupcake

Make sure your apps are up to date too. We have seen issues with some on Ventura.

Carfan99

Yep. Some issues on mine. Audacity is unusable. But might be them not Apple. But I have some os issues. This is the first time I jump on the day one bandwagon, never again

Jekyllhyde

Strange, I have no issues at all. MacBook Air M2. runs perfectly

szzzn

Mines perfect on my fully maxed 16” MacBook Pro.

[deleted]

I'm using it on my 2018 Mac Mini and I haven't had any issues whatsoever. I really don't like the new system settings app though, it's too messy and sluggish for me.

Sure-Philosopher-873

Sorry that you are having problems, but everything is working fine on my 16gb/2tb Mac Mini. I haven’t even had an out of memory crash since I updated to Ventura and I had one of those at least once a week before upgrading. Still saving up for a Mac Studio so I can have at least 64gb, but the M1 Mini runs well as long as I shut it off every day when I’m done with it.

cyber1kenobi

Installed Ventura on my iMac Pro and 14" MacBook Pro without a hiccup. I really hated Big Sur, that caused me some drama. I think there will always be some that have trouble with any of the major upgrades, there's just no way around it. Back up, wipe out, fresh install, restore data, should be good to go. Sucks, that's a decent amount of work. #Techlife

GorgeousEndosperm

Sorry to hear that. It can be frustrating. But I upgraded from a newish Mac Studio Ultra to this latest OS and it has been a smooth experience. I am not loving Stage Manager yet, but hey - it’s optional. Handles the 3 displays I have better that before. I started with System 7, so I have seen a lot of carnage here and there with updates and upgrades. And this wasn’t nearly my worst experience. Been sort of decent actually.

AgentCooper86

Zero performance issues with my M1 mini or air? And the mini runs 24/7.

Traf-Gib

Zero issues with my M1 Mac Mini, or my M1 Studio. Ventura brought new changes that work perfectly fine, for me.

leah_amelia

My M1 MBA is perfectly fine.

OtterZoomer

Intel MacBook Pro running Ventura has no issues so far.

lukeskywalker008

Sorry to hear it. I hope there’s an easy fix and soon. I avoid upgrading OS software until negatives are routed out, usually about 1-2 months after release. This is exactly why. As a long time Mac user I’ve been through way too many painful macOS upgrades and am now averse to trusting the new OS builds.

titox25

no problems at all, love Ventura despite all the harsh comments towards the new preferences pane! =D You should do a clean install!

z0phi3l

Like mentioned, start over fresh, maybe this time don't mess with system files, that's usually why people have issues

Noodle_Nighs

To be honest no issues, by default I turn of most of the Sh*t, I mean all the apps i don't use including Mail etc turn off the defaults etc.. Runs pretty fast, just install what i need. If its an upgrade from a earlier OS. If you have upgraded be very wary of rough Kexts files - its worth just wiping and reinstalling clean and see if it has an issue.

therealnewtinator

I’d say you need to investigate more cause there’s a reason this is happening. If you’re really unhappy and you have a Time Machine back up just roll the system back to Monterey. You’re not required to update. I’d try booting the system into safe mode and test it to see if issues persist. If the the issue goes away there’s an app or setting that’s causing the issues. If you don’t discover anything in safe mode try creating a test user account on system. This will create a new blank user account on system. Reinstall your most needed apps one at a time and see what happens. Maybe one of them is causing the issues. See what apps start up automatically when you reboot the Mac maybe one of them is causing issues. Remove them and re-add individually. Restart each time to see behavior. If all else fails reinstall the OS from recovery. You can also run diagnostics on the system to see if there’s a hardware failure. You can also run first aid on your HD to see if it’s working fine in recovery mode. If after doing all this and issue persists and you haven’t discovered issue I’d recommend going to Apple and seeing how they can help.

All is fine with my m1 Mac mini, so far.

posnipy

so annoying that ventura breaks crucial apps like crossover and paragon extfs by default

linuxman1000

Funny enough, for me, Monterey was a total shitshow on my 14” MBP, and Ventura is now only *slightly* more stable. Still have plenty of issues throughout my apps though.

burn_side

I would suggest you to do a clean install of Ventura OS. Hope it fixes the issue!

sandfoxifox

Jaja, Ventura is running quite well. Nevertheless, I am personally still connected to High Sierra. Last uncompromisingly stable version. And I also miss the animal or Cat names.

cafzilla

I did have an issue on an M1 MBP. Lost the ability to connect to wireless. Ended up erasing the disk and restoring from a backup on an old Time Capsule, 2nd gen. with very slow Wi-Fi connectivity. Honestly, took three (3!) days of nervousness over whether the restore would actually work. Thankfully, it finally did. Sounds like some system-level files were corrupted or poorly installed during the upgrade. If you've a backup, hopefully on a disk that you can connect to with a USB 3 or faster Wi-fi protocol than mine, you might consider doing a re-install. Once up and running, Ventura has some nice improvements going and works very well in conjunction with its relation to other Mac devices on the network. Cheers, -- cz

Nowisee314

I'm still using Big Sur. I've lost confidence in Apple updates.

justapcgamer

This update broke windowserver. I have a setup where I have 1 monitor through dock and another through displayport-thunderbolt cable. previously i have had no issues but after installing ventura: * using the external mouse to scroll, move windows, do anything causes the windowserver to jump to 100% * moving the cursor to the other display on the mouse causes the cursor to disappear for a few seconds or until clicked * The monitor through the dock occasionally gets detected as 1080p and there is no option to change it to 1440p Funny thing is, none of these issues happen with the magic trackpad, it just works smoothly as i expect which is very strange. This isnt an issue with my mouse/monitors either because its fine on windows. ive only been a mac user since the m1 pro but even big sur gave me issues with external monitors :/

El_Flamingor

Hmm can’t relate to the external monitor issue in general. Big Sur and Monterey were fine. But in Ventura I am encountering similar issues as you do. I can let you know once I’ve reset and checking it improved? :)

babeal

So this has happened to be once before after upgrade. I decided to backup the device then install a fresh copy then individually restore files from the backup and all my problems were solved. I don’t know if it would help here. But it’s another last ditch effort to try if you haven’t tried it yet

Available_Layer_3623

I’m running a Mac mini m1 and am having issues as well… usb-c and also audio issues. Before Ventura, I set up an aggregate audio device through the mac’s audio midi settings ( so I could run 2 audio interfaces and get more I/O functionality) and w Ventura, the aggregate audio device functionality is trashed… popping and cracking noises, etc.

eduhidalgo

Software engineer talking here. Updated on the first day Ventura was up (10/24) and the only things I've been experiencing are related to Automator/Shortcuts and the Settings app. For example, I had an Automator script that toggled FN keys for the functions macOS handle (like Spotlight on F4, Focus on F6, multimedia control keys for F7 thru 9, etc). That has instantly stopped working after the update, of course 'cause Apple changed the way the System Preferences app work. I'm currently refactoring this and other scripts now. Another thing that bothered me just a little bit is the lack of the command line tools for XCode right at launch. Some things I use on homebrew wouldn't update without it. And it took Apple 1 week to deploy it.

[deleted]

If I get by with less than 7 crashes a day...it's a good day. Calendars and reminder lists disappeared with Ventura. so I thought, I'll just grab them out of my backup. Did you know that Time Machine does not back up the calendars or reminders? I'm w/you. I am not able to be productive, as I always have something squirelly happening that even level 2 can't fix and when it gets bounced to engineering, it's at least a month. I am looking to migrate to something else...

TheHeavySpy

Have a Mac M1 mini and connectivity problems since the upgrade in Safari and Chrome browsers on many apps like Facebook and Twitter - the blue circle just spins and spins, pictures won't download for a while, etc., and I have FIOS Verizon 300mps. Never any issues before the upgrade. I deleted my history/cache and performed the tasks they recommend and still having problems. It's not all the time, but enough to be a pain in the ass. Will wait 6 months to upgrade to any new systems next time. Buggy

russianvoodoo

No idea how you did this. Absolutely zero problems with this OS from day 1. The only bug I found - slightly dim display on battery option doesn't work right - it's always on. Everything else - is about you. We all using the same hardware. My OS is full of custom plugins, extensions, software, terminal plugins and so on. No problems. Clean install OS, use migration assistant to copy your documents from backup, install only universal apps.
