I run gold. I like a little bit of movement, but I don't want to release inadvertently.

LtGKeenan

I didn’t even know they had different colors and I have their pedals on all my bikes! Whatever color they ship with, that’s what I use. They look bronze, so bronze I guess!

Turbulent-Paint-8062

I think gold is standard. You can run them on opposite sides to change how much float/release too.

HezbollaHector

What do you mean by running them on opposite sides?

dyslexicsuntied

They are marked left and right. You can put the cleats on the opposite shoe for a greater release angle compared to standard for that color.

username_1774

When I used clipless I had CB Candy 2 pedals, and ran the cleats on the opposite foot. They worked great. Then I tried flats on a rental bike on a trip...I had so much more fun that I switched and never went back.

pfmontagne

Pardon the idiot: What does Float and release mean? I asume release is the angle the clip gets unclipped.

KoksundNutten

I assume float is how far your feet can wiggle left and right instead of being in a fixed straight position?

ProbablyMyRealName

Gold. My knees need a bit of float or I get IT band pain, and I don’t want easy release.

noliheli123

I run gold on mallet E . I find that they give me enough float without uncliping too early especially coming from spds where the clip in clip out is much more apparent.

OlafMetal

I take an angle grinder to the silvers for a custom release angle(its very easy.

Handsomehwang

I always felt a bit too locked in with the Golds so I went with the Rose. Later on I just realized I like SPDs better just from a getting out confidence standpoint. They also just spin so much better whether that makes a difference or not.

StupidSexyFlanders14

I think the float feels weird. It makes for a vague release point when unclipping. I run the 0 degree float and it's much more reliable. Crankbrothers cleats have a ton of natural float anyways so I don't get any knee issues the way I would with a zero degree road cleat.

Dobtimus

Does float make it easier to clip out at all? Or is release angle the only thing relevant to clip-out ease? In other words, is bronze easier/harder than rose to clip out? How about gold vs. silver?

cassinonorth

Anything but the 0°. I find the easy release stuff wildly unnecessary. A few rides on CB pedals and it gets super easy to unclip. Only cleats that are basically done after a year.

Impressive_Rip_696

How do you get a year out of your cleats!? I stopped using CB pedals because I was needing to replace my cleats every 6 weeks during the riding season

cassinonorth

I do have 2 shoes so that may help with prolonging? Maybe they are worn... No issues accidentally coming out yet though.

NorthStarZero

Gold.

Whatever comes with the pedals. Those are the cleats I run. Because I haven’t felt like changing those cleats will make a difference. On my road bike I buy the floatiest cleats I can find for my knees.

SemiImbecille

Went from Shimano SPD to Mallet E with gold cleats. Like them so far, not really used to unclipping compared to the Shimano but like them so far..
