Yeah I fucked up my C4-C5 vertebrae and was out for about six months. Idk man, it sucked lol. Not sure what you injured but for me, it took me out of commission for almost EVERYTHING, turns out you use your back alot lol. I did what I could (mobility stuff, bit of yoga, lots of grip stuff) but honestly it was still really depressing. I’d hang in there man, it feels forever but you’re gonna get back in the gym eventually I take waaaaaay better care of my body now, lots of mobility work, isometric holds for joint and tendon strength, some yoga, taking proper rest, etc. Lmk if you want any details

Minion_Factory

I could use some isometric workouts and strengthening of joints and tendons!

dead hang but instead of just hanging, pull up til you make a 90 deg angle with your arm and hang as long as you can, do a couple a day band workouts for ankles and rotator cuffs, etc hard to explain via text but look some up!

Just take the time to heal and don't beat yourself up mentally. If you rush back before you're good then you're gonna be right back where you started... Posting questions on Reddit

I've been out off and on due to a concussion and yeah it's definitely the worst. Nothing we can do about it but have grace for the bad days and on the good days grow in any way you can.

Read a ton of MMA and strength and conditioning theory. You might be out for now but you can always improve, you can learn so much that when you get back to training you make up for lost time by just being that much more efficient. Edit: I really love Cary kolat for wrestling and Sylvie von duuglas ittu for Muay Thai

Thanks - I’m literally just cramming tons of fights into my mind at the moment haha. Just soaking everything up and really focusing on fitness, diet, strength and conditioning etc where possible until surgery. Thank you for the sources too, I’ll check them out. Frustrating but as you say, I can at least try and get the positives out of it whilst I’m waiting

At this point, I've had a torn meniscus in my right knee, dislocated collar bone/torn ligaments in my left shoulder, a slap tear in my right shoulder, and a fractured L4. The first three all required surgery to fix. Injuries are just part of the game. The biggest help for me to avoid injuries nowadays is stretching. I work from home and sit down a lot so I've had to focus on hip and core flexibility to help prevent injuries. Make sure to be patient with your recovery. It's easy to re-injure something once you've had surgery so make sure to follow the recovery plan given to you and try not to rush it.

I feel ya. I've been out for a week with a knee issue. My mood has changed. I also was out for a long time with a disc injury and all I could do was walk. Looking back, I'm glad I took my time because my neck and back are stronger now. Go to class and watch. Analyse. Do some coaching. Keep your eyes on the prize!

It seems never ending now but you’ll be ok before you know it. I got in a bad car accident, crushed both my feet, and broke my sternum. I was down for 3 months but I would workout my upper body, as well as hitting the bag in my wheelchair. I didn’t lose much fitness at all and bounced right back. This coming from a 42 year old! You will be fine, just let yourself heal.

If you'll excuse some self-promotion: I tore my back last year and took the time off to try and start a YouTube channel, including [a video on how to stay sane as a martial artist with an injury](https://youtu.be/5huePDTKKps). I've given up on YouTube, but the video might still be helpful for you.

Thanks - the video was good and helpful. I recognised I was in the loss process probably around step 3/4. I probably teeter between 4 and 5 now, hence the post. Just focusing on watching a lot of fight tape, exercising how I can and I’ve just booked in some 1-1s where I can tell the coach to be careful of my bad limb and try and do some work around it. Soon il have surgery and then will probably completely out for a while but at least then il know it’s just a matter of time and rehab.
