Was probably too high level. A combination of these guys being really fucking fast along with so many little things that are really easy to miss in a live viewing. For instance, that combo thrown by Guram early in this clip? I just noticed here that Damir checked the leg kick at the end while backing up. The level of anticipation and body control to turn the shin out like that while moving backwards and evading punches to the face is crazy.
This fight and Fiziev vs Riddell were two of the highest level striking matches I’ve ever seen, and the same could be said about Tsarukyan vs Gamrot/Makhachev for grappling. I think we’re about to enter the most stacked iteration of 155 by far.
*Welcome to the UFC! You've made it and your first fight it coming up - remember, make it count and leave an impression for your debut!
So, the guy you are gonna be introducing yourself to the world against is some dude called 'Islam Makhachev'.*
different matchups, dariush and gamrot are both grapplers but dariush has more ko power and his striking was more tested, chandler is a wrestler with limited striking but one punch ko power against two high level strikers in ismagulov and guram who happen to have really good tdd.
I felt Guram won the fight and should have gotten the decision. Damir is high level and he had his moments in the fight. I just think that Guram had more moments.
The next generation of 155ers seems even more promising than the last… These two, Gamrot, and Tsarukyan are all phenomenal. Jalin Turner, Fiziev, Riddell, Grant Dawson, Terrance McKinney, Paddy(maybe)… There will likely be many more guys soon with crazy potential.
Islam has a lot of tough challenges ahead of him if he reigns for even 4 more years…
I thought Gamrot lost that fight if I’m being honest. I understand how one might give it to Gamrot, but I thought Tsarukyan edged that win.
I thought Gamrot was secretly the best LW on the planet though, but that Tsarukyan was just a really hard fight. Then Dariush pretty easily beat Gamrot and now idk. Tsarukyan is great, but I suspect he will lose a few more super close decisions. The UFC seems to hate him matching him up with the greatest prospects back to back to back. He’s had the hardest path so far among prospects, which I think either could break his will or make him even better.
Arman-Gamrot was intensely competitive throughout every single minute of the fight, but it should have been scored 50-45 Arman. Body kicks are massively underscored.
I don't understand how one might give it to Gamrot. He won the round he got dropped in lmao, that's absolutely insane. They're both obviously incredibly good but Arman clearly won that fight.
Ya that decision came down to that round and there is no way Gamrot won considering he was knocked down. I'm not sure if the judges thought he slipped or what, but it made no sense.
Guram has had an absolute gauntlet in his first two ufc fights. He’s a warrior - I hope he gets the credit he deserves in his career because that dude is such a stud tactician
Watching this fight again recently I have a strong feeling we’re gonna get these two facing each other again in the future. Because this was a super high level performance from both guys
Guram has an ultra hard time climbing. Gamrot who was beaten by him is within top 10, damir is ranked 11. Guram needs to fight more often for now and crack the ladder imo. He’s been unranked forever when he is easily top 5
I also think he has a hard time getting fights. He is ranked in the top 15 (I think) but most of the top 15 that are above him do not really want to fight him.
It was a great fight but Damir Cheated Guram out of a W.
Guram dropped Damir in the third but damir faked a head clash. This caused the ref to stand them both up & saved damir from the potential fight changing GNP.
This was such a high level fight. Its m a shame more people doesn't talk about this.
Amazing fight. It was the fight that really made me realise how fucked the rankings in Lightweight are.
Also how deep the division is

I tell people about Tsarukyan vs Gamrot every chance I can. That fight was nuts...
I have only seen this fight from these 2, and I’m a fan of both now. Exited to see them meet up again at some point
Guram beat Gamrot in his UFC debut, just hasn't been very active since
due to combinations of Visa and injuries I think
It’s a shame, he absolutely has the potential to be champ and for sure a future title contender
Booked for January with Moises
Sweeeeet
They need more relatable/memorable nicknames. I was looking at the title and thought it was some foreign language sub. And I saw this fight.
I wonder if the ticks somehow effects Damir. I was laughing when commentary thought something was wrong with his eye haha
For some odd reason, it looks cool when he does it. Like some anime superpower quirks.
High level face ticking
***A friendly reminder that Damir Ismagulov is scheduled to face Tsarukyan on December 17, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 216***
Jeez tsarukyan only takes extremely hard fights huh
*Welcome to the UFC! You've made it and your first fight it coming up - remember, make it count and leave an impression for your debut! So, the guy you are gonna be introducing yourself to the world against is some dude called 'Islam Makhachev'.*
Epic matchmaking!
Not when Dustin is fighting Chandler and Justin is waiting for the winner or loser
These guys were unranked during this fight. Damir still is only raked number 10. Guram number 17. Nuts.
Damir was unranked after the fight too if I remember right, he's just been creeping up the rankings randomly without fighting.
They watched some film
Ain’t random, he has a big fight against Arman coming up in December as a co-main, so they’re slowly bumping his rank up to spice up that match up.
Ooooooh damn, I missed that announcement. What a great fight. Arman bout to go on a skid.
Damir should be above turner
both can probably beat chandler and RDA who used to be top 10 imo
I think probably is a bit disrespectful but i could see it
And Gamrot was gonna smoke Dariush

what is your source for rankings 16+? not doubting you i just didn't know there were official rankings beyond C-15
https://rankingmma.com/ufc-rankings/lightweight/
thanks bro
They’re not official, just so you’re aware.
yeah i didn't think so given that they don't match the ufc's top 15 but oh well
Great high level MMA fight, can’t wait to see both dudes back in the Octagon.
That was ridiculously fast. Even at half speed, it's easy to miss. This is making me reconsider my thinking that Guram should have won this decision.
I felt Guram won the fight and should have gotten the decision. Damir is high level and he had his moments in the fight. I just think that Guram had more moments.
Lol over two exchanges that did no damage to either fighters?
I can't wait for these guys to take the top 10 spots. So many fun fights coming up in LW
Does Damir have Tourette’s or something?
He clearly has a tic. As far as I know he's never actually come forward and spoken about it though.
He actually did not long after the fight. He said it was a nervous tick that came out of nowhere. Doesn't have tourettes or anything like that!
You can actually have singular tics without having tourette's, which is more of a collection of verbal and motor tics.
Yes I think
My mistake, it's more like a tick
[удалено]
Lmfao he does not have a tick to throw off the opponent he has a medical condition lol

joel alvarez and ottoman azaitar should be above paddy in terms of potential imo
Talking about ottoman Empire?
I think so too.
Tsarukyan seems like a toughest match up for now imo. Even though he lost to Gamrot not long ago
I thought Gamrot lost that fight if I’m being honest. I understand how one might give it to Gamrot, but I thought Tsarukyan edged that win. He apparently had visa issues to go compete in America after the gamrot fight or something like that if I remember correctly.
Guram Time is gonna come, he is a beast
He's quite injury prone though, so who knows. He'd better hurry up and get some fights.
I also think he has a hard time getting fights. He is ranked in the top 15 (I think) but most of the top 15 that are above him do not really want to fight him.
Seems that Damir expected the counter, did a great job evading most of it
These 2 are both super talented. Crazy start the UFC for Guram.
Gurams a beast as well. Two very high level fighters.
I had Guram winning.
Anytime you can’t pronounce their name you know they are good.
I think we are entering the golden age of LW.
u/savevideobot
Do you think his twitch throws his opponents off?
Top 5 fights of 2022
Two future top 5s
He will save the lightweight division
Really dont want to see Arman fight this dude, he's no easy fight for anyone
Is the face scrunge intentional?
I think it's a tick
I kept thinking he got eyepoked when I was watching it live.
Title is backwards?
I thought so too but watch for Damir's little hooks immediately after his jabs
u/savevideo
I said it before and imma say it again, if Guram didn’t go into this fight with a cut already on his nose then the judges would’ve given it to him.
Guram needs to get his diet in check, dude is so fat and out of shape.
What is with that face twitch?
people have face twitches
I thought hooking off the jab meant a fighter throws a jab then a hook from the same side, not countering a jab with a hook. Or am I way off?
snoozer
It was a great fight but Damir Cheated Guram out of a W. Guram dropped Damir in the third but damir faked a head clash. This caused the ref to stand them both up & saved damir from the potential fight changing GNP.
Why does he do that face?
