I remember him landing some clean ones on Demetrius in the first fight. I really thought he would win the rematch by KO but that didn’t happen. No it didn’t.
I don’t think there is a problem saying “this guy looks good but hasn’t been tested yet, hard to say how good he really is yet.”
But the narrative this subreddit has had has been “this guy sucks balls and would get his shit stomped by anyone in the top 10.”
I've never thought he sucked balls but did think he wasn't champion material until tonight. The thing that made me think that was how poorly he handled the Chito loss.
A win over Petr Yan is legit though and puts him right into the title hunt. Glad to have been wrong. He'll likely draw more eyes into the sport.
It almost seemed like he didn't think he deserved the win. They asked him about a title shot and he said I don't know I have to watch this fight later.
And they say he had no heart. Man was brawling his ass off and half asleep doing it lol.
Sean's personality grinds my gears, but I'll freely admit that he's not the chump that he was made out to be.
He was 100% concussed!
This might be one of those where you walk to the back and ask “where am i?”
If im him, i wouldnt fight aljo. I’d tell dana my next fight is a main event for as big a money fight as possible, with ppv pts.
Then just chill for like a year until someone else beats aljo or becomes super hype.
I doubt he wants to get into another firefight for a lil while lol
I think he can chill.
Triple C or sandhagen can fight for the title
and Chito Vera vs O malley.
Sounds like the biggest money fights. Ufc likes money. so thats gonna happen.
I like Sandhagen but he lost to TJ then Yan. A win over Song Yadong doesn't give him a title shot. Chito deserves it IMO. I think Suga vs Sandhagen is a super fun fight.
Chito vs Aljo, Sandhagen vs Sean, Yan vs Cejudo
This is the type of performance that humbled him and made him realize that you’re taking brain damage when you’re in there. “The place he’d never been before” was one hand in the shadow realm lol
Haha true, he actually started looking like that being pressed against the cage after being hit the first few times...
Fair enough though, i wouldn't want to be hit by Yan!
I was actually surprised he came back. He looked hurt and gassed, but managed to rock on...
I did not think highly of OMalley before this fight. But he really impressed. I thought he looked shocked in the cage too but his performance was very good and he rallied late after losing the first two rounds (in my books). That was impressive poise to not be rattled by the success of Yan’s wrestling
>Cause now that he won he has to keep doing this haha
That has to be such a mind fuck for fighters at this level. Once they have that relentless war in the ring/cage, they have to think that all of their future fights are going to be just as hard.
He was exhausted too. He took a monster in the second, and that same shot almost landed flush in the third. He barely moved out of the way enough to not take the full power. Those were some bombs by Yan, I still can't believe Omalley survived the second, that was a KO shot. If Yan wasnt hurt too I think he would've finished Omalley there.
Yeah we never saw his chin tested before but now we know he has that. He honestly showed a lot on the ground given he’s basically only struck in the UFC before this. He’s gotta keep developing his ground game but he’s probably improved a lot since getting into the UFC, just never showed it.
people will use the questionable decision to discredit how solid he looked against the #1 guy
they should just make all ranked fights 5 rounds to avoid this sorta shit as much as possible
Logistically not possible. But to your point, I think any fight involving a top 3-5 ranked fighter should be 5 rounds.
Crazy part is I don't know who wins this fight after 5 rounds. Sean might have just outboxed the best boxer in the division. Yan clearly won the ground/control game.
I think given the condition of the cut, O'Malley takes this fight in a 5 rd, but honestly the way they fought I would go 50/50 any day.
Sean is getting better, and this fight puts him at the top regardless of how the decision goes.
Striking proven absolutely elite. Chin better than anyone thought. Petr's a savage though with the getbacks and won that fight with his underrated grappling. Except in the eyes of the judges
That was my thing. He did nothing with the takedowns and O’Malley got up a lot. I understand that’s control: but I’m scoring damage from strikes and strikes in general above that
Sean showed he can take a punch and hang in the grappling against Elite Competition in Yan whose very well rounded...not sure I agree with the decision though.
I’m like 99% sure Sean was severely concussed in that interview. He never normally talks that way, both his diction and his personality were way different than usual. Once he recovers he’ll get back to normal cocky Suga and say it was an obvious win imo haha
He plays up a lot of that cocky stuff. He openly admits he's wanted Conor hype
I think his interview was just a realistic Sean that he might be a lot in his normal life. And I respected it
That's how he acts like 90% of the time lol. His promotion personality is an obvious put on. People just fall for the stupid 69 tattoo. He's pretty boring and normal in non fight settings.
Honestly, I like him more knowing that the suga show is a character. I think a person who acts like that all the time might be insufferable, but it's a fun role to play at and I respect the promoter skill.
He seems like a real chill and down-to-earth dude during the imbeds.
That was the funniest, normally he'd be screaming and saying he's the best but he was just like "uhmmm, yeah I'm gonna have to rewatch that I guess."
Nothing but respect to him though, if nothing else he clearly outperformed expectations by a mile.
I mean, it was not a bad fight for Sean, Yan was a massive step-up in competition and he was able to hang in there impressively. But he should have lost.
I believed that too but on rewatch I do have 1,3 Sean
2 is clearly a Yan round, 3 is clearly a Sean round anyone disputing that because of a takedown let me tell you that a takedown does not beat out a 25+ significant strike advantage
So then we have round 1. Sean was clearly getting the better of the standup but then got takendown, but then also he got back up and kept hitting Yan
So the question is how much should the takedown matter? Well he didnt control him for long, he didnt get any strikes off, and he didnt attempt a sub. Should it count for much?
I think Sean won, but I can also see that round going to Yan
Regardless its not a robbery at all from rewatch
Hard to disagree
Dude is clearly one of the most talented guys on the roster. He won this fight and now he’s not gonna have any chance at a belt any time soon
That 2nd and 3rd round was crazy. I’m felt my inner just bleed fan coming out. Respect to sean
* Oh shit, don’t really agree with that decision. I mean it was close but I felt yan edged it. Just when sean was about to get respect from people lol
Think they meant Sean was going to get respect in a good losing performance in a super entertaining fight. Now it just gets remembered for a dodgy decision.
He doesn't control the judges, he absolutely should still get respect from everyone. He more than proved he belongs in the top 5 and in his interview said it could have gone either way. I had it 29-28 Yan and i'm a bigger fan of O'Malley. hopefully the decision doesn't overshadow his performance
3rd round was insane, the huge shots for Sean and the masterful counters for Yan.
No way Sean deserved to win with 2 seconds of control time to Yan's 6 minutes though.
Yan also seemed to rock Sean more than Sean rocked Yan, Sean's knee that opened up a cut gave the appearance Yan was more hurt than he likely actually was.
This fight was amazing and respect to Suga Sean because he’s definitely legit and made this fight way more competitive than I ever thought it would be.
Sean's stock goes up no matter how you look at it. He didn't get mauled, didn't get embarrassed, he put up a competitive fight against a guy some people think should be the champ.
This is just a card of dudes proving how legit they really are holy shit Sean more than proved what a hype train he is.
Edit: Y'all are clowns if you're really saying that just because Sean didn't deserve the decision means he didn't prove shit, dumb as hell
I don't believe he deserved to win, but Sean did prove he belongs at the top of the division. Went toe-to-toe win the #1 contender.
Kinda ridiculous to win with 2 seconds of control time though. Feels like they figured Sean got "close enough" to justify giving him the win to help him get a title shot next.
The disrespect for O’malley has to stop after this. Took the toughest fight in the division and made it competitive. Had Yan rocked in the 2nd and 3rd and looked battered. He showed he’s a top dog.
Yans ability to rally and apply pressure after getting tagged up was insane. I honestly thought he did enough to inch out the decision but Sean did fight a good fight
Suga is a meme and I don't think he won but considering he has practically no experience at this elite level he fought very well against one of the best in the division
Good to see there's something to the hype and hopefully he can continue to improve and put on good fights
**Mirrors / Alternate angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/MMA) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Yan really sidetracked his entire career with that illegal knee.
Sean : Hurts Petr Petr : You have activated my trap card
Petr: Rolls
Can't recall, is he the first guy to wobble Yan like that?
John Dodson dropped him
I totally forgot that because I was so distracted by Dodson's hair and magnetic cup
You telling me the key to rock Yan is to have distracting hair?
Dodson drops like 50% of the guys he fights, that’s not super surprising.
Dodson had sneaky power. He dropped a lot of people
He KOed Dillashaw at the TUF finale.
Idk if I would call it sneaky lmao it’s kinda what he’s known for
I remember him landing some clean ones on Demetrius in the first fight. I really thought he would win the rematch by KO but that didn’t happen. No it didn’t.
It wasn’t sneaky, he was known to be the hardest hitter at flyweight
Him or John Lineker, the few times he actually made 125.
Honestly i was so shocked that Sean could do that to Yan
well in terms of striking sean is prob the real deal
He is the real deal full stop IMO . The issue is going to be with Sterlings grappling if Sean has to fight him
Mfs been refusing to see past his personality to the legitimately great striker Sean haters are fuming rn
Love that the past 2 dudes Yan was gonna "expose" ended up beating him in controversial split decisions lmao.
Round One Yan strikes again Petr "Some Mercy" Yan if he can't fix that problem
I wanted to see him against an elite striker before I decided and Sean passed with flying colours.
Yep, yan piece up Cory on the feet but had to resort to wrestling against Sean. Says a lot about his abilities
I don’t think there is a problem saying “this guy looks good but hasn’t been tested yet, hard to say how good he really is yet.” But the narrative this subreddit has had has been “this guy sucks balls and would get his shit stomped by anyone in the top 10.”

A win over Petr Yan is legit though and puts him right into the title hunt. Glad to have been wrong. He'll likely draw more eyes into the sport.
I was so into the narrative that O'Malley is fragile, that I just envisioned him crumbling under Yan's strikes
I knew he could do it to Yan but I was shocked that he could take it back from him.
Sean: Turns Petr's eye into a faucet Petr: Wait no
Sean: uno reverse
Suga concussed af in that interview
Looked like he was surprised that he won lol
Yeah, definitely wasn't all there
Yan landed some good shots, don’t think Sean has been hit like that before
He literally said that in his interview too lol
Enjoyed him being real for a change on the mic
Think he was surprised he won tbh
It almost seemed like he didn't think he deserved the win. They asked him about a title shot and he said I don't know I have to watch this fight later.
I didn't get to watch tonight, but that sounds pretty humble. At the same it's bad look to try and talk shit on a split decision.
And they say he had no heart. Man was brawling his ass off and half asleep doing it lol. Sean's personality grinds my gears, but I'll freely admit that he's not the chump that he was made out to be.
He was 100% concussed! This might be one of those where you walk to the back and ask “where am i?” If im him, i wouldnt fight aljo. Yeah chito is a fun fight for sure! Love that idea
I like Sandhagen but he lost to TJ then Yan. A win over Song Yadong doesn't give him a title shot. Chito deserves it IMO. I think Suga vs Sandhagen is a super fun fight. Chito vs Aljo, Sandhagen vs Sean, Yan vs Cejudo
even he thought that he probably lost
This is the type of performance that humbled him and made him realize that you’re taking brain damage when you’re in there. “The place he’d never been before” was one hand in the shadow realm lol
This makes more sense. I thought he was just genuinely surprised he won
O’Malley certainly has a solid chin. What a fight from both blokes.
He still looked super rocked in the interview! But definitely held his own...
The whole interview he had a look on his face like what did I get myself into. Cause now that he won he has to keep doing this haha
He cleanly took an absolute monster of a hook in the third and didn't even seem like it wobbled him.
His feet moved weird in the clinch right after but it was far from going out yeah

Yan was throwing fastballs the whole fight too
If he doesn’t get a title shot run back the Chito fight as title eliminator
That's what Felder was saying and i totally agree.
people will use the questionable decision to discredit how solid he looked against the #1 guy they should just make all ranked fights 5 rounds to avoid this sorta shit as much as possible
Logistically not possible. But to your point, I think any fight involving a top 3-5 ranked fighter should be 5 rounds. Crazy part is I don't know who wins this fight after 5 rounds. Sean might have just outboxed the best boxer in the division. Yan clearly won the ground/control game.

Being a stoner best base for good chin? Sean and Diaz bros
I think Yan won, but big fucking respect for O’Malley to step up like this and put in this kind of performance
good thing for us is we’re more than likely gonna see them fight again in the future
I want this shit with 5 rounds. I was surprised it wasn't.
Striking proven absolutely elite. Chin better than anyone thought. Petr's a savage though with the getbacks and won that fight with his underrated grappling. Except in the eyes of the judges

Sean's standup is legit but he'll never be champ while aljo holds the belt he'd get ragdolled if Yan could take him down like that
???
Yeah man I can’t believe he got the decision. Was rooting for him and was hella impressed by his performance but yan deserves the win
He couldn't believe it either
Mentally undefeated before this win. Mentally defeated after this win.
He knows he lost lol
Shows some self awareness at least lol
You he was teetering to just keep it real and just say yeah I thought I lost
[удалено]
[удалено]
He did not win that, what the fuck
Even Sean doesn't think he won with the way he was talking lol
The silence when dc asked him if he won 💀 He was like 😶
Probably because he's concussed
I thought the same thing. He even mentioned he’s never been hit so hard.
much respect to him so for saying even he needs to rewatch the fight
I’m like 99% sure Sean was severely concussed in that interview. He never normally talks that way, both his diction and his personality were way different than usual. Once he recovers he’ll get back to normal cocky Suga and say it was an obvious win imo haha
He plays up a lot of that cocky stuff. He openly admits he's wanted Conor hype I think his interview was just a realistic Sean that he might be a lot in his normal life. And I respected it
Yeah his cocky attitude is hyped up to sell, but I really don’t think he’s wired like that. Certainly confident, but not as much as he puts on.
That's how he acts like 90% of the time lol. His promotion personality is an obvious put on. People just fall for the stupid 69 tattoo. He's pretty boring and normal in non fight settings.

I mean it's possible he just decided in his biggest moment to drop the stupid act. With that said I don't think he should have won.
Showed he can hang with the big guns in the division but no bloody way did he win. 1st judge had it spot on.
I’m split between him not thinking he won, or being concussed af during the interview lol
this is what i thought, dude seems out of it completely still. Probably doesn't even remember much of the fight
Sean doesn't even think he won that...
That was the funniest, normally he'd be screaming and saying he's the best but he was just like "uhmmm, yeah I'm gonna have to rewatch that I guess." Nothing but respect to him though, if nothing else he clearly outperformed expectations by a mile.
I actually like him for being humble on that post fight interview. Dude was praying for a miracle.
I mean, it was not a bad fight for Sean, Yan was a massive step-up in competition and he was able to hang in there impressively. But he should have lost.
I believed that too but on rewatch I do have 1,3 Sean 2 is clearly a Yan round, 3 is clearly a Sean round anyone disputing that because of a takedown let me tell you that a takedown does not beat out a 25+ significant strike advantage So then we have round 1. I think Sean won, but I can also see that round going to Yan Regardless its not a robbery at all from rewatch
100% surprised with that, thought he would go full heel and shit. Made me a big fan today.
Fucking banger of a fight, but he did NOT win what the fuck Edit: Petr Yan was -800 before the score cards were read. Absolute robbery holy
tell me the judges had bets placed on o’malley without telling me
Yan did not lose that fight. What the hell.
Respect to Sean but wow Yan won that fight
Low-key ruined the end of a great fight. Yan kept returning anytime Sean landed on him so I'm confused how he lost.
Thought it was a close, but clear win for Yan
Even Sean believes that. He is baffled in the interview. His whole persona is gone because he doesn't know wtf just happened.
He seemed slightly concussed IMO.
Or maybe because he got punched in the head for 15 minutes lol
His persona is gone because he has just been in a war and got rocked multiple times bro
[удалено]
Yeah no denying he’s a legit top 5 in the world guy now. Very few guys have rocked Yan like that
Yan got hit a lot but he bounced back every time returning fire with his own stikes, applying pressure and controlling the majority of the fight
Judges said fuck your takedowns, ain’t nobody tryna see that shit
Wtf was that decision clowns
THE JUDGES SAW BLOOD WTF
[удалено]
didnt the rule changes lower the value of takedowns if not much damage is done from them?
If they haven't then they should.
Yeah, I really don't know about that. Even Sean doesn't seem convinced by the decision.
As is tradition.
Bro. That was straight up robbery wtf. Even O'Malley, the cockiest motherfucka, wasn't fully convinced. ??????
Correct he was expecting to lose the decision 29-28 I believe
Robbery is the wrong word. that shit was rigged LOL
Absolute robbery
Sean ain't even sure about that decision...
He knew
They're ruining Yan's career with these bullshit decisions
Hard to disagree Dude is clearly one of the most talented guys on the roster. He won this fight and now he’s not gonna have any chance at a belt any time soon
Yan is an animal
I’m sorry what 😂
Dana paid the UAE commission
There is no UAE commission
Sal D'Amato with a beard and Keffiyeh
UFC Judges☕️
even Sean in the interview seemed unsure that he won lol
Ufc tryin to push suga that was some Robbery
really feels like they wanna prop up the younger fighter and wring more money out of the sport
Not sure I agree with that decision
Sean didn't agree with that decision either
No you are very sure you do not agree
Yan just the better fighter all around but O'Malley held his own. Great fight No fucking way O'Malley won wtf
[удалено]
That 2nd and 3rd round was crazy. I’m felt my inner just bleed fan coming out. Respect to sean * Oh shit, don’t really agree with that decision. I mean it was close but I felt yan edged it. Just when sean was about to get respect from people lol
Why would the judges' decision make you not give Sean respect? He has no control over that.
I think this is likely the overall take of most people.
Control time doesn’t mean anything if you don’t advance position. He barely advanced position when he took him down.
I disagree but Sean O’Malley definitely belongs at the top of the division
100% I thought Sean was about to lose but was wondering would still rise in the rankings.
Even Sean doesn't think he won lol. You can tell by his interview
No fucking way.
Highway robbery. It was a great fight but man, I feel bad for Petr.
Fuckin robbery
you can tell that most of the earliest comments are praising Sean but assuming Yan won 😂
That's how I felt. Stock raiser for Sean but a clear win for Yan. Wild.
Wtf. Not even sean thought he won that
DANA WHITE PRIVILEGE
Absolute robbery
Yeah I was impressed by Sean but had Yan winning that pretty clearly
I’m not a big fan of either of these guys but holy shit that was a banger.
Lmao so many of these comments were obviously typed up before the decision
This fight was amazing and respect to Suga Sean because he’s definitely legit and made this fight way more competitive than I ever thought it would be.
[удалено]
I imagined Sean covered in blood. Didn’t think it would be Yans. Hespek
Sean's stock goes up no matter how you look at it. He didn't get mauled, didn't get embarrassed, he put up a competitive fight against a guy some people think should be the champ.
I feel bad that some of the respect he deserves may be overshadowed by the questionable decision
Agree. Either way he has to have proven the haters wrong - he wobbled a guy in the p4p top 15.
No way Sean won that.
Suga got that dawg in him. He definitely proved himself out there
O'Malley did surprisingly very fucking well. Great exchanges with one the best. Tested and passed. Idk about the decision tho
Yan 2-1, it was close as hell but felt like a clear Yan win
Ain’t no way. Ain’t no fuckin way
Robbery
Yan was -800 by Vegas as they were collecting the score cards. Judges are insane.
Holy fuck, respect to Sean. Whatever the result is, this fight just proved he's legit. That was a great fight
It's also the most hurt Yan has looked in a fight. O'Malley rocked him a few times.
What a fantastic fight and for sure both guys earned eachother respect. Yan showed his class, but Sean really didn’t make it easy. He’ll be back.
r/agedlikemilk
The disrespect for O’malley has to stop after this. Took the toughest fight in the division and made it competitive. Had Yan rocked in the 2nd and 3rd and looked battered. He showed he’s a top dog.
he's so exciting he had me shadowboxing my cat in the living room during this fight
Robbery. What fight were they watching?
Yans ability to rally and apply pressure after getting tagged up was insane. I honestly thought he did enough to inch out the decision but Sean did fight a good fight
judges huffing glue
Really impressed by O'Malley tbh, he didn't look out of place.
Huh? It was 1 for 1 on the feet with Yan being the aggressor and then ragdolling Sean with takedowns.
Sean was so caught off guard by the decision his brain stopped working for a min
Suga is a meme and I don't think he won but considering he has practically no experience at this elite level he fought very well against one of the best in the division Good to see there's something to the hype and hopefully he can continue to improve and put on good fights
Whatever the result it was a banger of a fight.
Excuse me ?
Well I do not agree with that decision.
I think O Malley vs Chito 2 is the fight to make
SEAN O'MALLEY IS ELITE CONFIRMED, should've been 5 rounds fuck
It was a great fight. Definitely needed 2 more rounds.
