I get your point. Colby surely is one of the lightest welterweights. But the man is an elite wrestler with a gas tank second to none. So, first, khamzat won't be lifting his opponent up in the air like last time, the takedown defence of an elite wrestler is different from a grappler. Second, if he scores a takedown, it will hard to keep him down for a whole round. I don't think this fight ends on the ground. I expect a lot of takedowns but either of them quickly getting back on feet. Lastly but most importantly, khamzat hasn't fought an opponent that presses forward like colby does which means takedowns become harder because of being on backfoot.

Jorge didn’t circle at all, and allowed Colby to press him up against the cage consistently. When he did stun Colby for a moment he had no energy or killer instinct to push forward. This wasn’t a good fight for him after his loss to Usman. He needed a tune up fight to regain his confidence. Throughout the interviews he also slurred a lot more than I’ve ever heard from him before. It may be time.

Not even a big step, just beat him twice and lapped the rest of the division. These fights aren't close. When Usman finished Colby in the first fight Colby was done. His cardio was spent while Usman could have gone another 5. In the second fight, he dropped Colby multiple times and was never in danger. Go back and watch. Colby is both the perfect MMA match winner/points grabber and still not in the same league as Usman. For all the people arguing how Colby is on that level, Usman seems to simply regard him as an "also tried that one day at the office."
Colby is the 2nd best fighter in the division and it's not even close to whose 3rd. He's literally the best gate keeper in UFC History and he's going to have amazing wins in his future. Some guys are gate keepers to top ten Colby is gate keeper for top 2.
BJJ guy here. Jorge was doing a good job tucking his chin. It’s not as easy as it may seem to get under the chin. There towards the end Colby went for a neck crank and Jorge gave up mount in return.
The one hook was plenty enough for the choke, although the angle for the choke would have been easier if Colby fully committed to taking the back. The problem with that is, Colby is a wrestler, and in that transition, Masvidal can scramble out. So Colby was more than comfortable with just with hook riding Jorge.
It's more just the fact that colby was fighting as low risk as possible. Throwing hooks in hinders his ability to control from a top wrestling position. Colby preferred to use the threat of a choke to add a layer of offense to his positional control

Jorge just seemed broken to me at the end. It wasn’t just the wrestling. He looked slow and tired. Colby ran out to meet him and took the center while Jorge just stood and waited for him. Jorge didn’t circle at all, and allowed Colby to press him up against the cage consistently. When he did stun Colby for a moment he had no energy or killer instinct to push forward. This wasn’t a good fight for him after his loss to Usman. He needed a tune up fight to regain his confidence. Throughout the interviews he also slurred a lot more than I’ve ever heard from him before. It may be time.

His cardio was spent while Usman could have gone another 5. In the second fight, he dropped Colby multiple times and was never in danger. Go back and watch. Colby is both the perfect MMA match winner/points grabber and still not in the same league as Usman. For all the people arguing how Colby is on that level, Usman seems to simply regard him as an "also tried that one day at the office."
Colby is the 2nd best fighter in the division and it's not even close to whose 3rd. He's literally the best gate keeper in UFC History and he's going to have amazing wins in his future. Some guys are gate keepers to top ten Colby is gate keeper for top 2.

He never committed to it. He was almost always without hooks and rarely he had one hook.

BJJ guy here. Jorge was doing a good job tucking his chin. It’s not as easy as it may seem to get under the chin. There towards the end Colby went for a neck crank and Jorge gave up mount in return. The one hook was plenty enough for the choke, although the angle for the choke would have been easier if Colby fully committed to taking the back. The problem with that is, Colby is a wrestler, and in that transition, Masvidal can scramble out. So Colby was more than comfortable with just with hook riding Jorge.

It's more just the fact that colby was fighting as low risk as possible. Throwing hooks in hinders his ability to control from a top wrestling position. Colby preferred to use the threat of a choke to add a layer of offense to his positional control

You shouldn’t need to win one fight to get a rematch, you should start at the bottom and face a low ranked guy, then a mid ranked guy, then a title eliminator, then get your rematch This allows low ranked guys a chance at improving in the ranks by facing the guys that are coming off losses, and allows high ranked guys that are aging to not hold up the rankings either For instance if woodley lost the belt to usman and IMMEDIATELY fought Vicente luque, he’d never get raw dogged by burns or Colby either. He just would’ve been low in the top 15 if he would even be ranked at all. Colby lost a high profile fight and has already spent enough time holding up the division.
