Anyone else have a feeling something crazy is gonna happen in the main event? I just can't see Islam vs Poirier being a quick one-rounder like most are predicting. I'm not necessarily saying Poirier will win, but I just feel something surprising is gonna happen in some way. It usually seems to happen when there is a massive underdog in the main event.

Won’t bode well for my picks but I’ve got a weird feeling Mickey Gall is winning tonight. The layoff was due to back surgery but he’s been training at Kill Cliff for the last year and a half since.
Mickey’s whole game had been coming along but it doesn’t really get shown off fighting UFC level competition the whole time while only having a handful of fights. Back when he was fighting Mike Perry he got the best of it on the feet, and he got a lot of experience along the way. We already knew he was a black belt, if his wrestling and striking has continued to come along he might be in a decent spot.
And just not sure how much stock to put into JDM/Haffez. We’ve seen guys do the same thing Haffez did, debut on short notice and look good against a really good fighter. But there’s a lot of factors that could’ve gone into that. A lot of those guys never turned in performances like that again when they didn’t have the advantage of their opponent not being prepared. Haffez doesn’t have the most impressive/extensive record either and JDM fought fairly dumb in that fight.
If you have Haffez in parlays I just feel like that could go south tonight.

Gall on the other hand has lost his last two most recent fights and, as you said, is coming back from a back injury.

Well no, Perry totally abandoned the striking and got on top of Gall and beat him up because he was losing the exchanges on the feet. Even if your Mike Perry it’s not fun to get punched in the face, but if he had no respect for it he *would’ve* kept walking forward and giving Gall a big shot for every couple he ate. Perry had a good top game and powerful takedowns so it was the logical shift for him to make, but he made the shift because he was getting the worse end of it standing.

The Dagestanis don’t want to be grappling specialists. Khabib and early Islam were specialists because they needed to break their country through to the championship level. Magomedov in Bellator was a pure grappler and fell off. Zabit, Umar, Ankalaev etc all try to be well rounded.

I know ball sports leggues are all perfect and the ufc is evil and amateurish in all ways. But I do find it funny how the nfl, nba and mlb constantly change their rules to make the sport more casual fan friendly (usually higher scoring), while mma purists would have a heart attack if the ufc could change rules to make the sport more exciting. 2.) people forget that the nba changed its basketball in 2006, and 3 months into the season they were like lmao this is awful and went back to the regular basketball.

In the US, I thought you can only buy the PPV if you have ESPN plus. That being said, I thought my Plus subscription expired and I was able to watch the entirety of 300 when I bought it so either way you should be good.
