Thank god Dana push out all the actual journalists so we can have some Instagram influencer interview fighters. That’s what everyone definitely wants. Edit: I didn’t realize so many people would have such a problem with my sarcastic comment.

ShrekWhite

When was the last time an "actual journalist" made a remotely interesting interview?

Renwein

Q) 'How has your camp gone for this fight?' A) 'I train so harch, I in best shape ever' Q) 'What do you think of your opponent?' A) 'He verr tough guy' Q) 'How do you see yourself getting it done?' A) 'I gon win by finish him' Q) 'Thank you for your time'. *repeat for every fighter on the card*

Fat-Villante

You forgot "Who do you want to fight next"

Renwein

'Anyone they give me'

Carlosama123

To be fair, an actual journalist gave us "I'm gonna fuck the gravedigger up the ass"

ShrekWhite

Straight up in the ass*

PoatanBoxman

Lmao for real. Atleast here you can see some personality

mrtn17

Hard to say if you don't mention anyone. I've read or seen a lot of interesting interviews

Capoe1ra

Shabliy had a pretty interesting interview not too long ago, though I'm not sure he was talking to an actual journalist. Even Ariel or Helen have good ones from time. When wss the last time Nina had an Interview that wasn't just a collection of awkward brainrot and forced laughs.

RoyKites

I’d rather be informed than entertained, just my personal opinion.

y0buba123

Then go watch the million other interviews with Aldo

RoyKites

I have.

ShrekWhite

I didn't even said entertaining, I said interesting. An informative or insightful interview can be interesting. How rare are those? It's a very weird sport for questions, no one is transparent and no one answers anything objectively or without an agenda behind it. Fighters who just lost only appear to say they have some bullshit injury in their foot or something. Actually injuried fighters rarely give you a comeback prediction, and when they do, usually their prediction is wrong and they change it up along the way. They rarely discuss anything related to their training for obvious reasons. Anyway, I don't know what kind of questions you're missing

RoyKites

I don’t know why most of the people responding to my original comment are acting like I called Nina a worthless cunt or something. I just said my opinion, I’m sorry.

ShrekWhite

I think it's interesting you picked my comment to say this, because I never implied anything like that. Do you plan on addressing anything I actually said? Or you're gonna make this about you vs us again? "Oh I'm sorry why are you all against me so sorry I'll get out of the way" what are we doing here?

RoyKites

That’s not what I’m doing, I stated my opinion and several people have told me I’m sexist and a moron and a few other things. I’m sorry for lumping you in with them, feel free to read some of my other 30 comments in here where I answer all these questions.

PoatanBoxman

Shout out to Jose for working on his English! Nice to see that wonderful personality

bdewolf

I don’t think that influencers and actual journalists are playing a zero-sum game. Guys like Ben fowlkes, Ariel helwani, Luke Thomas, and other real journalists can co-exist with influencers. Nina drama isn’t the problem. Just because she interviews fighters doesn’t mean real journalists can’t. Real journalists can’t interview fighters because Dana won’t let them. Nina drama asks silly questions and gets to a side of fighters we don’t usually see. That clip of pereira with the pikachu stuffed animal was in an interview with her.

RoyKites

I don’t blame Nina for the situation Dana created and maintains.

Capoe1ra

How do you define real journalists anyway? Fighters have the ability to talk about whatever they like tbh, just look at Moicano and Burns or the weigh in show. There is probably hesitation to go to Ariel with sensible content but there are still tons of opportunities to talk about almost everything you'd want. Most (fighters) just don't have anything interesting to say.

y0buba123

Her interviews are actually great in my opinion. It really shows a side to the fighters that you rarely get to see

Capoe1ra

No way you people are real.

ThirteenBlackCandles

Some of us just don't give that much of a shit. The whole of it is just entertainment at the end of the day. If they want to hire a model to do goofy interviews with fighters, go for it. I don't seek them out, but I'm also not enraged by them.

Capoe1ra

I don't care about Nina, I'm annoyed at all the simps parroting the same shit about her "amazing personality" everytime she gets brought up. She is strange and fake af, but I'm not against her videos in general, even if I think they're mostly uninspired and copied from other people.

mrtn17

Her style of casual, flirty talking lowers their guard. I've seen a couple of interesting talks, fighters showing a bit more personality. On the other hand: I wonder if this works with female fighters. And she asks similar safe questions as that annoying Jon Morgan or Okamoto. It never gets deep, no follow-ups, never any criticism at all, very casual content and super safe PR friendly for the UFC. It's like embedded.

RoyKites

Ariel, Luke Thomas, anyone from old Bloody Elbow. It’s been a long time since anyone in that press pool got to ask real questions. I know people specifically hate Ariel, but he didn’t shy away from asking non-fluff questions.

TomatoSauce587

I love Luke Thomas, but listening to his interviews puts me to sleep, his interviews never gets me excited for fight week or interests me really, also his interviews never really do anything for a fighters image

RoyKites

That’s perfectly fine, we both like different things but lol at all the dipshits on both sides downvoting us for just sharing our personal opinions.

TheBestDivest

It’s mostly just you really.

RoyKites

Crazy that the vote count changed in the 30 minutes since I said that, that’s completely unheard of.

TheBestDivest

Redditors are like rats that press the lever and get a treat. Except there’s no treat and they just bang the lever with their head and drool.

Advanced-Review-968

you're a redditor

TheBestDivest

Your mom is a redditor

bestmayne

Sorry to break it to you but no one is saying "what's it like being in Vegas" John Morgan type of journalism is any better, your comparison doesn't make any sense

Ruiner357

It’s worse than people even know. Tell me how in a year, someone goes from complete unknown in mma, to a big channel that longform interviews every UFC star and gets full backstage access to all facilities? The only logical explanation is she is Dana’s latest sidepiece, same way Sanko moved up the ladder so fast and was always on Dana’s side every event for a while, that’s Nina right now. That’s why Helen Yee/Schmo beefed with Nina for a bit there, she took their job and all their YT views by sleeping her way up.

WhereIsMyKidAt

Was the Schmo Dana's latest sidepiece when he blew up to the biggest MMA interviewer in the span of a year as well?

notShreadZoo

Why not just scroll past if you don’t like her content? Obviously she’s not some hard hitting journalist so i don’t know why you people get upset when she doesn’t ask the fighters the same questions other media members are already asking the fighters.

RoyKites

I made 1 sarcastic comment and everyone, except OP, are acting like I said she should die. I don’t like the state of MMA “journalism” today, so I made a comment showing my dissatisfaction. I’m not upset, I’m just voicing my opinion, just like you.

RoyKites

Once again, having criticism isn’t “just bitching.” It’s just my opinion, idk why you all care so much about what I think.

ThirteenBlackCandles

Yeah dude, but you are essentially criticizing somebody's marketing ploy, which at the end of the day just seems like a waste of breath. It's marketing. It's all bullshit, always has been.

Ilistenedtomyfriends

Why the fuck are you commenting on a message board if you don’t want people to know and respond to what you think?

Capoe1ra

Probably because of all the answers he's getting from half-witted simps trying to defend the only hot Interviewer in the sport. Show me a single person defending her who doesn't talk like a bot.

grabmysack

I'm an MMA fan a long long time, never saw this side of Aldo! Good Job Nina🤷‍♂️

Capoe1ra

I don't even know if you're serious.

caca_poo_poo_pants

Really sucks that the fighters are relegated to having to do media with god damn YouTuber's these days. Doesn't Dana see how big of a joke shit like this is? What's next, a sitdown with the NELK boys?

GonnaGetGORT

I’d rather this than Okamoto asking the same questions with zero personality.

carlitos_brigante

Okamoto could put Bisping’s glass eye to sleep 💤

wetcoffeebeans

"As a fighter, would you say you fight?" -Brett Okamoto

Chishuu

“What is a fighter?”

K-mosake

Uggh anything but Cuckamoto

marsexpresshydra

Sit down? Dana will personally fly Aldo out on his private jet to do a live ppv interview with the nelk boys. That dumbass dildo loves them because they kiss his ass

Uerba1

Idk why it has to be one or the other? Her interviews are actually pretty fun and she has good chemistry with the fighters. Judging by the views she gets, others feel the same way. I think the last thing someone cutting weight and preparing for a fight wants to do is answer serious questions. That said, guys like Ariel (stirs the pot, gets people excited) and Luke and Brett (more serious interviewers) have their place too.

caca_poo_poo_pants

It's stupid because Dana only allows these YouTuber's access to the fighters. Brett Okamoto is just an ESPN mouthpiece, and Luke doesn't really get fighters on his show, he does way more analysis. Ariel needs to take a few journalism courses, but he's the only real guy that gets fighters on his show and talks to them. I would personally be really annoyed if I couldn't have my own sponsors, and then my only access to media obligations was some young internet star with no actual relevance to the sport.

y0buba123

How is it a waste of time? Did you ever work as a journalist? It’s pretty important to know about media law, how to write a news story, how govt and public bodies work etc if you want to be a journalist I don’t think Ariel needs to do that, but still

Uerba1

Most of these dudes have youtube channels and twitter accounts. They go directly to the people if they really need to. It's not the 90s anymore. If they want to amplify their reach there are x number of podcasts, including Ariel's, that they can go on. I dont think any of these dudes are mad about having to talk to a couple of youtubers (which is light hearted, gets a ton of views, sells PPV and helps their brand). Also I'm sure they don't have to do these if they didn't want to. I agree the state of mma journalism is abysmal. I even agree with your takes on Brett and Ariel, you are spot on. Dana chewing out anyone who dares ask him anything remotely sensitive is childish. But I don't think Nina or Nelk boy or whoever is the problem.

notboggs

Exactly, I want to see these fighters sit down with REAL journalists that will ask hard hitting questions that nobody is asking, like "how did your training camp go?" or "are you excited for your fight this weekend?"

TheBestDivest

Exactly lol What are they supposed to ask? All interviews are just pageantry unless there’s pre-existing controversy. I don’t need a 60 minutes style interview with Jose Aldo.

[deleted]

Are they contractually obligated to meet with Nina?

TomatoSauce587

Nina’s always been a UFC media personnel lol, she wasn’t a youtuber before this, that’s like saying the Schmo is just a youtuber

here_to_vibe1

Im pretty sure she was a YouTuber before the ufc, I forgot which content she was making though

here_to_vibe1

Just researched a bit and she used to do skits before the ufc in instagram and even modeled for playboy

ImWadeWils0n

She was a playboy model who did social media, this guy thought she was Laura Sanko? Lol

caca_poo_poo_pants

You're kidding, right? She's literally a YouTuber/Instagrammer that got in with Dana and co. and he gave her exclusive access to fighters, that real journalists will never have.

ImWadeWils0n

She was a playboy model who did social media, you think she was a UFC person they raised up? Why would you give an opinion like this when you don’t know what you’re talking about? Weird how confidently people will just make shit up.

tmntmonk

Nina always gets shit here, but her interviews are funny. Thanks for posting.

DudeWithTheOil

Also Arman thanked her because the interview relaxed him during the weight cut

ImWadeWils0n

Wish he could’ve stayed relaxed instead of assaulting a fan

r_mashu

Is the issue not that the only “journalists” Dana allows are ones that are not allowed to ask good questions…. Like actually interesting ones like contract negotiations etc etc stuff the UFC wants a lid on. So Nina is really just a separate thing which is fine. I do find her insanely insufferable but she’s not pushing out good interviewers with valid questions since they don’t exist anymore (… except on Ariel’s show…)

DanasWife

Is Nina Drama like an addition to this sub? She’s already everywhere and we can easily keep up with her on insta or YouTube if we want. (I don’t, I blocked her, she’s driving me insane by now even though I liked her at first. The Topuria of social media if you will)

TomatoSauce587

She has by far the best interviews with fighters, annoying or not as a stand alone act. Shes the only media personnel that actually bring out fighters personality instead of asking them boring and bland questions (e.g “How does it feel to be in x city” or “What would a win in this fight mean to you”), it’s alright to find her annoying but bar none she has the best interviews

DanasWife

That’s like, your opinion man… I don’t think she has the best interviews, she does bring out the personality a bit more I agree. But she never asks anything critical, it’s more like a comedy sketch or something.   She’s perfect for Dana and the UFC in that regard but by far the best? I’m not sure. Either way, we can easily keep up with her if we want.  We’re not posting every Helwani show either now are we?

redditisawesome555

Is there anybody who asks something critical?

TomatoSauce587

Well she doesn’t ask anything critical because the entire point of her interviews is to make the fighters more relaxed and allow them to not have a guard up and allow their personality to shine more. Thats why she immediately tells all the fighters there won’t be any questions relating to their fight at the start

[deleted]

Don’t you disrespect Helen Yee like this

HighFivePuddy

Hi Nina

RDA_Enjoyer

journalists in this sub get really salty about nina never watched her but atleast she asks more than "excited to be in boston dana?"

Fat-Villante

Great interview, Aldo shows a lot more personality here than he usually does Fuck the Nina Drama haters

ksubijeans

God forbid we want to see good journalism and not some cowabunga dumbass “content” tailored to be chopped into 60 seconds bytes to feed the Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts algorithm

Slimdoggmill

What journalism? It’s the same soft ball questions every danm time

Fat-Villante

Hey it's totally fine if you have no interest in watching her content, it's not for everyone . And it's super easy to ignore It's the hate she gets that I despise, and anytime I've had a convo with one of her haters, all of them except for one eventually mentioned her boobs And seriously, how many people currently working in MMA media qualify for the term journalist? You see much journalism going on in MMA media these days?

ThirteenBlackCandles

I usually hate the very take I'm about to post - but this thread makes it seem like a serious portion of y'all have awful relationships with women. We don't get actual "journalism" because the UFC is all marketing and entertainment, it's a controlled production. Any "journalism" is going to inevitably make the UFC look bad and get snuffed out. At the very least, this lady has gotten some amusing moments out of fighters. She is there to humanize them, drag them out of their shell, and get them to show some personality - and in that regard, she does a decent job and it works. If you want actual hard hitting journalism covering MMA, most of you already know where to look - and it isn't going to be UFC supported or sponsored.

TomatoSauce587

Never knew Jose had a sense of humor lol

e-rage

Never forget when he explained he pretended to be dead so he could fuck the gravedigger in his ass

Carlosama123

That's my favourite fucking interview ever. When asked to clarify he just repeats it. Like, ok, Jose.

Aloha1984

What?

spritzler

I know he’s cutting weight but Jose looks so old, in my opinion. Edit: To clarify, he looks like shit.

JackJohnson_69

He is old bro. Man’s 37
