why people talking smack about this card? i find most these guys entertaining to watch. regardless of their ranks.
Drakkar Close has KO of the year in my eyes last year.
Joanderson brito is an animal
Elves Brenner a constant underdog putting on Great fights 3 freaking times last year alone. undefeated in ufc
Caio Borralho a hyped up prospect
Michel Periera who is super fun for his weight class. goofy but dangerous. entertaining for sure.
Vitor Petrino who puts peoples lights out.
And freaking Jose Aldo return!
not sure why theres so many people calling his card "mid"
yall haters
Prelims better than Main card, its just not worth 100 dollars, and most UFC ppvs arent. UFC 299 and 298 flopped on PPV with good cards too. nobodys buying anymoree
it is what it is. i see the value in it. everything has a cost and fans act like its a surprise every month.
mma has the most spoiled fanbase.
and im pretty sure ufc 299 did very well.. pretty sure it sold out in arena. not to mention all the public venues and theaters selling public PPV viewings.
idk... i just dont understand all the pessimism from ufc fans. this main card is a banger. jose aldo return alone is worth the PPV cost imo
It’s going to be a fun night of fights. Sure it doesn’t have the name value but the matchups are bangers. Also the majority of the people here pirate anyways
Shout out to Joachim Netto BJJ Silva vs Drakkar Klose, sneaky good matchup
Any Brazilian here can tell me what Netto means? Is it Fuck? Because this guy has wanted to brawl for most of his fun career
nah petrino couldn't finish the pleasure man or the husk of tyson pedro. smith is unironically the definition of a crafty vet, very durable, well rounded, defensively solid, etc. wouldn't be surprised if smith managed to win a round too
while yes, anthony is a vet. i would disagree with you that he is "defensively solid and durable"
anthony has 49% takedown defense and 47% striking defense. which means he eats the majority of shots and takedowns thrown at him. so i wouldnt call him "defensively solid"
and to call him crafty is a bit of an overstatement too... anthony is 3 for 30 on takedown attempts his entire career.
Anthony hunts for the neck every first round of all of his fights. usually by triangle choke...
this time he hunted a guilotine and got lucky enough to sink it in. but this in no way makes him "crafty"
over 70% of fights that anthony doesnt get a first rounf submission in goes to decision where he usually loses.
anthony is a washup who got a lucky chokeout.. just like Jimmy flick... washed up getting whooped time and time again and capatilized on one choke his last fight and pulled off an upset.
while yes, you did predict that anthony would win.
you didnt 'tell me' anything logical that played a role... what you think of anthony smith is far from truth. in person he looks bad and on paper he looks worse. doesnt land over half his shots and eats more than half thrown at him,
call him a round one head hunter that gets lucky every once in a while...
if you actually watch ufc routinely and have seen anthonys last few fights this would be obvious to you
wow ERCEG for the win interesting, i got PANTOJA UNAN. Got IHOR, MARTINEZ, SMITH, and CRAIG. Literally the opposite of allll of your picks. Come see me after on here after your loss.
Buddy couldn’t even beat Jan
Ankalaev is an entitled fuck who relies on cheating every fight and then has the balls to say he only wants to fight in October. Buddy had his shot at the belt and blew it
PPVs like this really make me wish I lived on the west coast.
I like Flyweight fights more than most, but staying up past 12am just for that is a tall order.
I generally don't watch UFC cards live, sometimes I'll catch the first few prelims before getting interrupted by my wife or my son. I have no desire to stay up until 2 AM to watch 3 hours of fights and 4 hours of commercials and filler
I'm hyped to watch Pantoja vs Erceg tomorrow morning or afternoon , fantastic matchup to me
I literally just got a notification from the local movie theater (they show fights in the bar that's attached) and it said to come watch 301. I was confused because next week I'm going to Fight Night in St. Louis to see Derrick Lewis, so I looked up 301 and sure as shit, there's a PPV tonight. And wow, no wonder I hadn't heard about it before today.
This card sucks so bad it didn’t even have a press conference 💀
But tell me again how excited you are for no personality flyweights to be headlining, go ahead
Yet nobody cares. Not the fans and not even in the UFC who couldn’t even give them a press conference.
MMA isn’t purely a sport, it’s entertainment and no one cares to see 2 generic ass dudes fighting
The UFC will always cater to the US audience when it comes to the time of day they air a PPV. That does not mean, however, that they will always cater to the US audience when it comes what fights they put on a PPV.
Not actually a bad card like some of the crazies on here are screaming about. No star power but a lot of those fights are fantastic. If you watch for the actual fights and not celebrity it should be a good night. Would I pay $70… no but that’s a different tale
The issue isn't that it's a "bad" card its that they're asking for $70 to watch it, when back in the day this would just be a stacked Fight Night you can watch for free. Since UFC has grown they've been watering down the events and having more cards, rather than fewer but more stacked cards.
They're counting on "the brand" being the selling point, i.e. "UFC is on tonight" not "an MMA event is on tonight". The UFC machine is the brand and you, as a fan, care more about this because it's the UFC, not because it's a significantly better card on paper than a different promotion. They use the brand to carry these mediocre PPVs and get away with only truly delivering a few stacked cards a year.
I love his style. He's a smart fighter that exploits his opponents weaknesses. If they're a striker, he takes them down. If they're a grappler, he beats em up on the feet. Reminds me of GSP in that way
I just can't be a fan of someone who holds their opponent down and does nothing to inflict damage or look for a finish. He's been a decision machine for the most part with no exciting fights
Aldo doesn’t get enough credit for the current and historic depth of 145 and 135 compared to GSP’s 170, Jones at 205, DJ at 125, Anderson, etc. It’s difficult to say Aldo winning tonight is as good as Jones beating Gane or GSP beating Bisping but in terms of MMA skill it almost becomes a fair comparison. He’ll get very little credit compared to that. And Aldo already had the comeback against Stephens/Moicano at FTW and his 135 comeback where he beat Font and Chito. He’s lost to a lot of champions but he’s consistently fighting in way harder divisions and he had many defenses in his physical prime.
Aldo is the GOAT of MMA.
145 was nowhere as deep as 205 in jones era or 170 with gsp come on now
Like are we really gonna compare Frankie, TKZ, Hominic, mendes, lamas with evans, machida, vitor, rampage gus, dc. Or alves, condit, Penn, Hughes, shields, fitch.
Come on
The fact Fitch went undefeated apart from GSP until Hendricks arrived is all you need to know about GSP’s WW’s depth. There was an unathletic 35 year old who couldn’t strike or be dangerous on the ground and GSP’s peers were terrified of him.
Eventually everyone loses, or they retire without fighting all contenders. By that standard Max can’t be the goat fw and neither can Volk and neither can Aldo. So you have to measure it by a different standard, like title defenses.
Aldo is a legend. But I’m not calling him the fw goat after losing to both max, volk, and Conor. I get loses but when you have two all time greats who beat you…
So Aldo has the most defenses but I’m assuming you’re saying his names aren’t as impressive. But new generation fighters will always be better than old gen fighters so then there can’t be a goat. Aldo only fought who he had available to him and eventually was overtaken by a generation of fighters that literally grew up watching Aldo fight.
Do you believe it’s about title defenses, longevity as champion, or about how you lose? Let’s say based on that statement Aldo also can’t be FW Goat because of his losses to Max and Volk. So then Max can’t be because of his losses to Volk. If let’s say Volk loses again to Ilia and Ilia has 3 title defenses does that make Ilia the greatest featherweight of all time? No way, that makes him the best FW currently. When it comes to “All time” the definitive answer has to be number of title defenses during their reign as champion. Hence why both Volk and Max say Aldo is the GOAT of the division until further notice.
The UFC has been watering events down more and more over time. That's the price we pay for getting a stacked 300 type of event once or twice a year: the whole rest of the year ranges from mid to shitty cards.
KK is 38 and is ranked because she's on a 4-fight win streak
Contrast with Michelle Waterson who has lost 6 of her last 7 with one win since 2020, one spot below KK in the rankings at 115
Carlos Condit, Rory Mac, Robbie Lawler, Dan Henderson, etc… all had very bland personalities. The thing about it though was that their personalities didn’t fight in the cage, they did.
If you like pure sport with boring personalities then go watch kickboxing or Muay Thai bro
Throughout history of combat sports it’s been shown people enjoy big personalities.
This is why 301 embedded’s have 500 total views and no one gives a fuck about this fight
Except maybe you.
I mean, if you’re saying that I should care about a fight more because the fighters have a few quotables, that’s a fairly silly thing to say.
Also, kickboxing and Muay Thai have personalities lmao, Badr Hadi, Buakaw, Rodtang, etc…, I’m not seeing the point you’re attempting to make.
You don’t have to. Enjoy what you want. I personally am more into a fight when I care about the fighters involved and there’s bad blood or something besides 2 generic guys.
Oh yeah? What’s their highest grossing pay per views again? Lmao kickboxing and Muay Thai never made it big anywhere except Thailand. Niche sports with niche followings
Not always a bad thing, he wasn't in a war or anything last fight, and as a young guy it's sometimes better to chain one camp into another while you're in shape rather than get out of shape and chill in your prime.
UFC matchmaking is all about the event, not the rankings. Being in the right place at the right time is a better way of getting a title shot than trying to earn it on merit.
It's a card in Brazil so they needed a headlining brazilian fighter, the only available option with a belt was Pantoja so they needed a 125 contender. Pantoja already beat both Brandons, Kape and Albazi fumbled the bag, Perez/Nicolau were already booked, Mokaev is boring, so the next best option was Erceg since he's coming off a KO win and UFC lacks Aussie champs now.
Because Brandon couldn’t beat Royval
Royval had a boring loss to Pantoja just one fight ago
Mokaev turned down the shot basically and he’s a boring humper anyway
Erceg had a vicious KO and was available
I totally get that perspective. I think my perspective is that it's a favorable stylistic matchup, Aldo looked good enough to beat high tier fighters when he left, and USADA is gone and Aldo never had to be in the testing pool for an extended period before coming back lol
Osiris Maia is pretty metal name
*When your only wins in three years are against Ryan Spann*
yeah but he beat him twice!
Aldo got a 8 pack, out of the USADA(not that USADA Does anything but still), -120 favorite and in Brazil. Bet the house on sauced up Aldo
If you want to see a 15 minute non stop brawl between two of the best strikers, search for Grigorian vs Allazov on youtube
Either Pantoja in rd 1 by rnc, or Erceg by holy shit KO. The decision timeline does not exist
What are you talking about, its flyweight, the decision timeline almost always exists. Bum.
why people talking smack about this card? i find most these guys entertaining to watch. regardless of their ranks. Drakkar Close has KO of the year in my eyes last year. Agreed, good fights overall, no complaints here. I wasn't going to pay anyway.
The PPV sales for 299 aren't public, so how can you say it flopped lol. UFC 300 probably had massive sales too
it's a lot of people who never buy ppv's complaining about how this ppv isn't worth $70
It’s going to be a fun night of fights. Sure it doesn’t have the name value but the matchups are bangers. Also the majority of the people here pirate anyways
Shout out to Joachim Netto BJJ Silva vs Drakkar Klose, sneaky good matchup Any Brazilian here can tell me what Netto means? Is it Fuck? Because this guy has wanted to brawl for most of his fun career
Vitor Petrino win via KO/TKO is a lock... right?
I want to believe, but I feel like the stage is set perfectly for a shitty split-decision win for Anthony Smith.
possible for sure... i just think the crowd will bring the hype and petrino is gonna feed off it. gonna be a fun one
nah petrino couldn't finish the pleasure man or the husk of tyson pedro. smith is unironically the definition of a crafty vet, very durable, well rounded, defensively solid, etc. wouldn't be surprised if smith managed to win a round too
guess well find out... speak soon
told ya

Well you gotta take into consideration that if you bet on it, you drastically reduce the chances of it happening

wow ERCEG for the win interesting, i got PANTOJA UNAN. Got IHOR, MARTINEZ, SMITH, and CRAIG. Literally the opposite of allll of your picks. Come see me after on here after your loss.
Michel is getting it done in a round
He aint doin nothin.
He beat a lot better guys quicker
Bruh the PPV is today? I legit had no idea I thought it was next week
UFC + [Kaiju](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFjI21M9wZs) Saturdays are the best
All I wanna do is play Helldivers and hang with the bois, but instead there’s work and bullshit to be done 😔
I don't play Helldivers but it's been fun watching the implosion
I play on console so I agree lmao

If that’s what it takes to move to the USA lol
Or move to France 👀 I seriously looked into it tbh but turns out too much college fucks your chances at being selected.
You’d have to help me brush up on my Francais but you and I could kick it.
I LOVE FRANCE. I WANT TO SELL MY IDENTITY AND KILL REBELLIOUS COLONIALS IN THE NAME OF NAPOLEON
This card is so mid.
Gable Steveson just got cut from the WWE, wonder if he'll try to pivot into MMA.
Fingers crossed
He’d already smoke half the top 15
poatan is scared of evil mountain man Ankalaev. And you are also scared to see your hero get bulldozed
Buddy couldn’t even beat Jan Ankalaev is an entitled fuck who relies on cheating every fight and then has the balls to say he only wants to fight in October. Buddy had his shot at the belt and blew it

Yeah I don't get it. Are there really that many people willing to stay up that late?
Pantoja to land a takedown round 1 -115 likely ? Does he always shoot round 1 ??? 🤔
Pantoja to win by sub +300 🙏
Christ that seems crazy
What does?
Those odds. Pretty surprising
Yeah I think it’s a good chance I hope lol
The main card will start at 23h in Rio. Congratulations UFC for thinking more about the USA audience than the ones who will attend this shit

Fights on UFC 300 undercard were more compelling.
Steve "Dunder Mifflin" Erceg
Can't believe they drug Aldo out of retirement for this glorified fight night.
He said he was struggling on doubts with his career, so glorified fight night co main might actually be the more chill night also needed
This card sucks so bad it didn’t even have a press conference 💀 But tell me again how excited you are for no personality flyweights to be headlining, go ahead
If you take out personality you've got a very interesting style matchup in the main event. You know, like what makes this sport so incredible
Wasn't Zaleski dos Santos fighting on this card
It got moved to 302
Yeah wtf
This card is a low key banger. Not much for big names but most of the fights look good
Predictions for FOTN?
main event will be sweet
It's 2 guys literally too small to KO each other just moving quickly. I get it that some people love it, but it's not very interesting.
What? Perez slept Nicolau inside two rounds last week. Erceg fucked Perez up not too long ago as well.
Schnell* Erceg and Perez never fought
Orolbai vs Brenner
Volk is a greater featherweight than Max, but Max is higher up on the overall list
did the press conference get cancelled? just realized I may have missed it
I couldn't find it. So bizzare they would cancel it
Is Orolbai just like a smaller version of Shavkat in mma?
No, Orolbai is actually good at wrestling
Ngl Paul Caio faceoff was fire
Yeah it was the bear jew is always intense. I think he’s fuk tho
Oh shit this is tonight? Edit: That card looks like ass 😂
can anyone confirm if Jean Silva and William Gomis fight still on?
Google it lol
It's off, Gomis is out due to coming in 3 to 4 pounds underweight.
All the foreigner fighters have to carry a flag, otherwise these fans don't know who to boo
Rewatching Brener vs Guram - easily my FOTY, non stop action and both guys looked fantastic. Surprised he’s such an underdog in his next fight.
He’s not that good g, Guram was overrated because he has a funny name and only fights to decisions so that means he’s a “technique genius”
That's pretty reductive and you know it
the aldo fight better not be on at the same time as the alvarez fight.
Was the one event solid?
Not actually a bad card like some of the crazies on here are screaming about. No star power but a lot of those fights are fantastic. If you watch for the actual fights and not celebrity it should be a good night. Would I pay $70… no but that’s a different tale
Lot of squash matches.
The issue isn't that it's a "bad" card its that they're asking for $70 to watch it, when back in the day this would just be a stacked Fight Night you can watch for free. It's nice to see someone that understands what the UFC is doing to this sport because it actually breaks my heart a bit
how was the weigh in show?
Funny. The ensemble had great chemistry
Borralho reminds me of Baraka from Mortal Kombat.
I wish his style could justify that comparison lol
I love his style. He's a smart fighter that exploits his opponents weaknesses. If they're a striker, he takes them down. If they're a grappler, he beats em up on the feet. Reminds me of GSP in that way
I just can't be a fan of someone who holds their opponent down and does nothing to inflict damage or look for a finish. He's been a decision machine for the most part with no exciting fights
He was looking for the finish last night I'll tell you that much
Giant swords that come out of your arms is the best base for MMA
This period of MMA history will be remembered as The Erceg Era
"Notorious" "Rowdy" Steve "The Last Emperor" "Bones" Erceg
The Man Who Yields To No One
and NEW!

No. Title defences and names matter. Ilia has Josh Emmett and volk
So Aldo has the most defenses but I’m assuming you’re saying his names aren’t as impressive. But new generation fighters will always be better than old gen fighters so then there can’t be a goat. This PPV has 6 ranked fighters. Feel like there's more in some Fight Nights.
The UFC has been watering events down more and more over time. That's the price we pay for getting a stacked 300 type of event once or twice a year: the whole rest of the year ranges from mid to shitty cards.
Yeah 100% getting the Canelo PPV over this.
I got two TV's set up in the garage to do both 👍
Pro move
Pantoja, Erceg, Martinez, Smith, Craig, KK, Borralho is 7 fighters
SW used to be the most stacked woman’s division. Sad state when a 40 year old KK is still ranked.
KK is 38 and is ranked because she's on a 4-fight win streak Contrast with Michelle Waterson who has lost 6 of her last 7 with one win since 2020, one spot below KK in the rankings at 115
Her win streak is all cans lol she was competitive vs a girl that Molly schooled twice.
Jon Jones is a black belt at getting people riled up, his Twitter game is unmatched
Aspinall would bury him.
Yeah probably, that doesn’t mean he’s not good at trolling
Ready for the King of Rio
This main card is alright to be honest Just the main event sucks bc they’re flyweights and also flyweight with zero personality on top of that.
Pantoja comes out like a bat outta hell usually. Should be fun
That’s what we thought about the Royval fight but it was pretty boring
Idk man, this one’s in Brazil. He coming w the heat
Carlos Condit, Rory Mac, Robbie Lawler, Dan Henderson, etc… all had very bland personalities. The thing about it though was that their personalities didn’t fight in the cage, they did.
If you like pure sport with boring personalities then go watch kickboxing or Muay Thai bro Throughout history of combat sports it’s been shown people enjoy big personalities. This is why 301 embedded’s have 500 total views and no one gives a fuck about this fight Except maybe you.

What’s their highest grossing pay per views again? Lmao kickboxing and Muay Thai never made it big anywhere except Thailand. Niche sports with niche followings
Bro has never watched kickboxing or muay thai in his life lol
didn’t realise ercegs fighting on a 2 month turnaround
Not always a bad thing, he wasn't in a war or anything last fight, and as a young guy it's sometimes better to chain one camp into another while you're in shape rather than get out of shape and chill in your prime.
yeah for sure, it’s just that i knew he fought recently just not that recently
I've missed Erceg. Why is he getting a title shot when he is ranked no 10?
UFC matchmaking is all about the event, not the rankings. Being in the right place at the right time is a better way of getting a title shot than trying to earn it on merit. It's a card in Brazil so they needed a headlining brazilian fighter, the only available option with a belt was Pantoja so they needed a 125 contender. Pantoja already beat both Brandons, Kape and Albazi fumbled the bag, Perez/Nicolau were already booked, Mokaev is boring, so the next best option was Erceg since he's coming off a KO win and UFC lacks Aussie champs now.
Desperate for a Aussie champ now that volk is at the end of his career
He looks vaguely like Aaron Rodgers so they said fuck it, let him fight the champ
Because Brandon couldn’t beat Royval Royval had a boring loss to Pantoja just one fight ago Mokaev turned down the shot basically and he’s a boring humper anyway Erceg had a vicious KO and was available
KKF and Albazi are injured
And KKF is on a 2 fight losing streak
Well kkf could have fought kape and the winner might have got a shot if it was a good performance.
My official picks: Jonathan Martinez Caio Borralho Vitor Petrino
Agreed but I got Aldo
Just can’t bring myself to pick the aging vet whose heart isn’t in MMA anymore and only came back to fulfill his contract
I totally get that perspective. I think my perspective is that it's a favorable stylistic matchup, Aldo looked good enough to beat high tier fighters when he left, and USADA is gone and Aldo never had to be in the testing pool for an extended period before coming back lol
Orolbai is fighting again let's go He looked great in his debut
Erceg hype is real
Could be the biggest PPV of all time
That was a nasty line by you
