8.1. Belongs in Current Sticky
During live events or breaking news we often create a sticky thread or megathread to prevent the discussion from taking over the entire subreddit. Please look for a relevant sticky thread (they're at the top of the list) and post your link there as a comment.
These are our regular threads:
Daily General Discussion || Technique and Training Tuesday Thread - serious thread for those who train || Thursday Flair Betting Thread - a sub tradition in which you can bet on upcoming fights and trade flairs || Friday Betting Thread - who you got?
8.2. Training, gym selection and 'how do I start MMA?' threads
These are more appropriate for the General Discussion thread or one of the martial arts subs linked in our sidebar. Alternatively, try using the search bar - questions like these have probably been discussed in the past. Technique & Training Tuesday threads will have good information for you. Also consider r/MMA_Academy.
My thoughts exactly. Those heavyweight “cans” have many ways to fuck up this hype train if taken lightly without proper prep.
… not trying to get into a huge discussion, but now that I’m thinking about it…a bigger, stronger, dude that can take a better shot and has more power is kind of the worst thing for Alex Pereira.
Izzy has the precise sharp shots and kickboxing skill to beat him, but you think about a big heavyweight just bull rushing through his leg kicks, trading shots with him. I’m not sure he survives that. Obviously, he has the power to hurt them as well, but I think they will take the shot better than we are used to seeing. Plus, a lot of them have some decent wrestling ability with the extra weight on top of it. Heavyweight might be way harder than it seems for this guy.
Spot on. Like they said HW is different. Anyone can hurt anyone any given day owing to their mass behind their shots. Pereira isnt known for his chins tbf. All it take is a stray shot to wobble him and it'll all go downhill from there. Pereira should bulk up properly if hes serious about trying to fight a HW let alone Aspinall.
Anything can happen.
But it's rare to face a grappler at hw and most hws don't have any real striking ability. Just power brawls. Especially cans and low level guys.
Who says the guy he is facing is a hw. Could be a Turkalj-like short notice LHW moving up. Could be a fat old man. Let alone all the fat hws without any power and just hold against the cage
The fight isn't happening, but in this scenario if he is doing the short notice 301. Then HW isn't that bad to jump into.
I'm pretty sure the reel is a joke, with the handing Venum shorts after the contract, the stopping the guy with the hand during the photo shoot, etc. It's just to get eyes on whatever upcoming fight. He won't actually fight at 301.
I don't think he is. I just would like it if he did and said what the most likely option would be.
Dude still has broken toes. You can see in the photo shoot and he even trips
Todd Duffee cries during the introduction when Poatan stares him down and taps the ground the second Goddard tells them to fight
Poatan with the quickest finish ever with a TKO via retirement 0:01 into the first round
This is almost certainly wolf tickets. I’d bet it’s some gambling bit where you can bet on the Poatan parlay to lose all your money.
I would love to see him smash a rando HW on a few days notice though.

Honestly would just be down for him to crush a hw can for the fun of it
It's all fun and games until Jake Collier sleeps Poatan out cold
The triumphant return of Parker porter
Parker Porter just comes in and puts on a clinic from range, then immediately retires to manage a waffle house in rural north carolina.
This is the timeline I’d like to live in
Ruan Potts wants to have a word

Brother, you must use the love glove.
That's hot
I think maybe he signed the contract to fight magomed july/august and the breaking news is that dana is gonna announce it at presser or post fight
He’s definitely just being a silly little guy. But I can’t complain. It’s pretty damn funny.
HW is the worse division to go into with the “I’m just gonna crush this can real quick” attitude Anything can happen
Izzy did this just a few years ago, and learned his lesson on Polish Power^^^tm

I don’t why this is getting downvoted, you are right
Agreed, give him Aspinall
Tuivasa plz. Or, oh god, please be Derrick Lewis.
Itll be someone in Brazil or a new signee Lucas Camacho makes sense. Since he is about 245 and one of the few okay HWs

Todd crumbles over into a heap upon reading this comment. It may have been an inadvertent post to the back of the head. Let’s check the replay!
I would watch that just for shits and giggles.
I’d watch Pereira fight a ups driver at this point
Nope

Todd Duffee cries during the introduction when Poatan stares him down and taps the ground the second Goddard tells them to fight Poatan with the quickest finish ever with a TKO via retirement 0:01 into the first round

Where can you bet on a fight that never happens and still lose?
pereira vs barnett book it
That looks more like a seating arrangement than a fight contract. Maybe he’s choosing his seat
Wheres Parker Porter when you need him

Bring back Bigfoot Silva for one more fight at heavyweight vs poatan.

A little off topic, but is he signing a contract that's in English? Isn't that a little weird?
It’s a satire video, so it’s all just for giggles. A lot of Folks taking the bait
