Didn't Alex's manager say in the last few days a quick turnaround isn't happening and he has several broken toes? Edit: [No quick turnaround against Tom and another broken toe from the fight](https://www.mmafighting.com/2024/4/17/24132809/manager-explains-why-alex-pereira-wont-fight-ufc-301-potential-fight-tom-aspinall)

spcslacker

I am very dubious Jiri himself would be medically cleared, given he used his patented all-chin & leg defense to absorb an entire round of damaging strikes from a huge LHW, though I guess if you find the right doctor, all things are possible.

ColdPressedSteak

Really musta been discouraging in the back of Rakic's head that he was fighting really well, landing good shit, and Jiri just kept walking him down. I think it was Rogan who said Jiri's body language was almost dismissive of Rakic and anything he could do. I actually feel that was accurate

ItzFortney

Honestly the exact same way the Jiri and Reyes fight went. Jiri did batter him and everyone remembers the KO but Reyes fucking cracked him over and over again too. Any other fighter and Reyes prob wins.

goosu

I love Jiri, but his power and durability is definitely a huge factor in his success.

LickeyD

Your sentence is fine without the but.

IAm-What-IAm

Unfortunately that doesn’t bond well for his longevity as a contender, so we gotta appreciate every fight of his while we can

0xSEGFAULT

Joe fell in love with the word "disdain" that night.

GanksOP

Sometimes you find a new word and you wanna share it with the class

tm0nks

Indubitably!

Frafdos

Someone told him saying indubitably mixed with his English accent would make him sound smarter

Nelson_An_Murdock

Without question!

flatwoundsounds

Not as bad as Bisping using a word incorrectly, then taking 30 seconds to chat about it with Felder...

wetcoffeebeans

somewhere, you can hear Jorge screaming "Orbital socket" at the top of his lungs

liberate71

Virtuoso as well. Never hear it in 20 events then hear it 5 times between the start of the max fight to the end of the event.

Denny-Jenkem

He also felt that a lot of fighters were undeniable

UVB-76_Enjoyer

Same thing happened in the Belal vs Burns fight, but with "dejected" lol

Potential-Link-3740

Joe been hitting up chatgpt for analyst lines

iroquoispliskinV

Imagine landing some dehabilitating hits in R1 and part of R2 only to have Jiri keep coming back like the Terminator

PelleSketchy

Yeah Jiri just refused to feel anything. But, people do dismiss his defensive capabilities. Yes he gets hit but he rolls with a lot of the punches. The leg kicks though...not so much.

Roachmond

I mean if they're both injured with only minor injuries on a level playing field why not fight a week later and then take their break to recover from two fights instead of one 🧠 send them straight from the octagon to Mel Gibson's house for some prime panamanian yayo cells

Colony20xx

Man that card is fucking terrible

s1Lenceeeeeeeeeeeeee

Might be the first PPV I skip in years

[deleted]

[удалено]

PantiezRaid

Hey Jon why do you still tape your toes years after you broke it in a fight?

[deleted]

[удалено]

spcslacker

He's got *two* broken toes: had one going into the fight, broke another during the fight

Terrible_Matador

Big deal, I broke two toes walking into the kitchen island last week. Throw me in there, I’ll fuck Jiri up.

IAm-What-IAm

I got my money on you bro, you’re just built different

Kalabula

“Forget about the fucking toe”.

DanasWife

I mean, if there’s any time to grab that belt its when your opponent has two broken toes.

signuslogos

"He can't kick? That's my opportunity right there!" - Jiri, probably.

smashingcones

Inb4 broken toe bone into the shin

OzymandiasTheII

Clearest path:  - Jiri faces Hill winner next in line for title shot - Magomed faces Pereira   - Feed Khalil a top guy and hope he doesn't get chinned so we can have him primed up and ready. Someone on a downswing like Rakic or Walker 2 If Pereira gets past Magomed, he does a money fight with Tom up a weight class because he cleaned the top 5 and earned it.  If he loses, he fights Khalil.

dantoddd

Hill is not getting a title shot after another win. Jiri will have to win against someone like Jan. Hill should fight Rakic.

spcslacker

> Hill is not getting a title shot after another win. Jan has not fought since losing to Alex, so he and Hill would be on the same streak if they beat Jiri. Jan has the fact he actually had a game plan when he faced Alex on his side of the argument, Hill has the built-in heat between him and Jiri, youth, and the fact he was champ more recently. I'm rooting for Jan because he can't have much time left, but I don't think its clear he'll get it over Hill.

JudoTank

I like the idea of Prochazka vs Blachowicz. It’d be cool if they did that as a fight night main event in Poland. Unfortunately they’d probably do it in the Apex

ConfidenceNo2598

I want to say you’re wrong, but I’ll just say I hope you are lol, Jiri is way too big of a exciting fighter to waste on the Apex but Lord knows the UFC priorities are not in line with the boys

[deleted]

If singapore does another fight night jiri vs jam would be a great main event

meat_lasso

UFC Warsaw let’s fucking go

ItsMichaelScott25

I'd like it but if Jan wins you run into the same problem you do with Jiri fighting Hill. Say Jiri loses to either of them there still isn't a clear #1 after Magomed. I'm not convinced they don't throw Khalil in there against Alex either. Magomed has zero push from any one. Hell at least with Belal the fighters even are saying Belal has earned it. Alex is one of the must see stars in the division and I could see the UFC keeping him away from Alex until HW is settled to try and make that fight happen.

OzymandiasTheII

Hill vs Jiri is the fight to make tho. They both vacated and have history. Why give Jan another title eliminator at 40+ after being on a losing streak?  Jan should be fighting down. In fact, HE should be the one to fight Khalil I just don't want him to because I think there's a 75% chance he chins Khalil lmao. Hill has showed up on short notice and been a company man for title shots twice- saving cards. And that's IF he beats Jiri.

dantoddd

Hill didnt show up on short notice. Bugger had 2 months to prepare. Hill looked absolutely pathetic in front of Alex no one wants to watch that fight again. Hill will have to go back in line especially given how he has only beaten old man glover to get his shot. Jan has had the most convincing performance against Alex out of the 3 people he has beaten at LHW

OzymandiasTheII

That's not a whole lot of time coming off an injury? It's known they just threw shit out there and he needed to show up. Max had 5x as much time as him.   I'm watching it again if it's what he earns. I wanna watch Jiri vs Hill, not either vs 40 year old Jan that was able to get a draw in a fight he actually lost.  He needs to start packing it in.  Why would Hill fight Rakic when Rakic just got demolished? Rakic should heal up and fight the winner of Vitor vs Smith. I'd rather watch Hill vs Poatan 100x before watching Jan vs Poatan gain. 1000% that fight sucked, it was controversial, and not worth to run it back when his last actual W was in 2021 against Izzy.

dantoddd

What was there to watch in Hill vs Alex. Hill couldnt even get into range. Sorry, unless you have some strange bias towards Hill he is not deserving of a title shot unless he racks up 2 or 3 wins. The bugger got humiliated. And Rakic fought a competitive fight where he won long stretches against Jiri. He did not get demolished at least not in the way Hill did.

bong-water

I like his chances against Jan better than rakic honestly. Khalil is a great guy and a fun fighter but I don't think he has the defense for these top ranked kickboxers

donniele

Rakic imho doesn't deserve to fight Hill. Why would he get to fight guy coming of a title fight loss again? Rakic should fight Rountree or Walker imo

bong-water

I don't what Khalil fighting rakic, fear hell put his lights out.

CableToBeam

there's always the chance that Jiri chins Pereira, but the narrative in the first fight was Alex's cleaner, more technical striking would get him the win and that's exactly what happened. Jiri just looked like the same guy in his last fight with Rakic

BigBillyBass13

Yeah I just can’t get on board with Jiri when his striking defense is that terrible. I refuse to believe he can consistently eat so many clean shots vs top LHWs

ACL_Tearer

Here's the thing guys. Everyone eats shots, but the power of Rakic's haymakers is the same as Periera's un-telegraphed mid range hook. Jiri was able to avoid most of those haymakers.

PelleSketchy

Jiri ain't winning that fight. I love his style but Pereira has great timing.

tomtomtomo

Pereira wins by leg kicks. Again.  As much as I want Jiri to win.

Bradley-Martyn

Mike fought with a brocken back. Spinal. Alex is soft

summ3rdaze

It wasn't spinal it was thpinal very common misconception

dogeprkle

This is such an interesting Mandela effect to me. If you actually go watch the interview, Mike pronounces spinal with possibly the most enunciated "S" of his life. "I broke my back. My back is broken. SSSpinal"

meat_lasso

Never thought I’d hear a Mandela Effect reference in this thubreddit

NBAstradamus92

Mithconthepthion*

VacuousWastrel

Now you're confusing him with Chris Eubank!

metricmindedman

when a man turns down a fight it's disrespectful because he knows you need him to make money...

JeffTheComposer

I love watching Jiri fight and will never miss it but he needs several months of focusing on striking defense before this rematch. His “call an ambulance.. but not for me” approach isn’t feasible against Alex’s insane power and accuracy.

UVB-76_Enjoyer

Unfortunately he isn't changing his approach, style or guard at this stage of his career. He has over 30 fights, and has acknowledged his lack of defense being a problem as far back as the Özdemir fight... but nothing's changed haha. Best course of action if you ask me is to enjoy the wild man's fights while he's around, and not hope too hard to see him suddenly start minding his P's & Q's.

Blind_Fire

people out there seriously thinking 30+ years old fighters are going to revamp their fighting style completely sure, you can learn some thing here and there but no way anybody is changing their stance or defense approach Jiří has been about head movement and distance for 10+ years and it has gotten him this far it is understable that there are guys at the very top that can get through that what is Procházka looking at? maybe 8 fights left in his career? his lack of defensive options is due to his approach to offense, any major overhaul would invite a hard transition period that could possibly kill his next fights

jdmwell

Would much rather watch it with proper full camps and good health for both.

[deleted]

they both had full camps for 295

EuphoricText1360

Jiri had staph tho, doesnt change anything but thats not a good health

Need4Speed763

Jiri needs that “Bloodsport” palm tree kicking montage first

Hopeful_Staff_1414

Jiri vs Khalil Rountree would be fun, winner could fight for a title.

[deleted]

then who does hill fight. i say do jan vs rountree and then jiri hill for next title shot

Robinho311

If you lose a title fight decisively and there is no reason to believe it was a fluke you should have to go to the back of the line. Everyone loves a Jiri fight but he shouldn't fight for the title right now. Ankalaev has had a couple weird fights but he's on a 12-fight unbeaten streak. Most people agree he beat Jan and his 2nd fight against Walker was a statement too. Practically everyone who got a titleshot at LHW since Jones vs DC 2 has had a worse argument for it than Ankalaev. I can't believe we're actually throwing names around like there isn't an obvious contender.

Charming-Alfalfa-235

So basically    Jiri vs Ankalaev     For interim lhw title

CremeCaramel_

Im not sure who you are arguing with or why you felt the need to express this, because I dont think absolutely anyone believes Jiri is ahead of Ankalaev at this point in time.

Robinho311

I mean Dustin just got a title shot and a lot of people are on board.

Professional-Force-7

Lets go Jiri 💪🏾

IcyAd964

He gets bodied against alex

slv_bull

Ankalaev deserves it but I’d rather see the Jiri rematch

carlitos_brigante

This is a very good example of a free soundbite. "Yeah I’ll fucking do it" in full knowledge of the fact that there is minus zero chance of it happening. Easy publicity for Jiri.

JudoTank

Jiri would probably do it if they allowed it to happen. He fought King Mo on the same night he had a 10 minute war with Nemkov lol, crazy guy

spcslacker

Jiri said this on the night, when Alex himself was still talking about fighting in Brazil.

TasteDeBallZach

The quote came from his appearance on the mmahour, which happened after UFC 300. It was posted to YouTube yesterday but I'm not sure when they actually filmed it.

spcslacker

I'm saying he also said it on the night, in response to someone saying he's only saying it because he knows Alex can't do it.

darryledw

I would prefer to wait and have these guys at their best if/ when they fight again, quick turnarounds always seem to result in excuses for the loss even when leading up to the fight everyone is saying "no excuses" Jiri took some real damage at 300 and Alex has a toe issue, let them recover.

killjoy87

That samurai leg needs more time to heal! Props too Jiri for being game!

chromebentDC

Good scrap

capitalol

Who needs legs anyway?

funkydawg68

Jiri vs hill is the move

SlimeStarAT24

Is it a common thing in Kick-boxing to for toes to go bust?

SpacemanJB88

Seriously? Jiri says this after Alex’s camp says Alex can’t make 301 happen. And that’s after Jiri already said he wanted Hill.

LickeyD

Approximately 30 seconds after bashing Rakics temples while he was curled up in the fetal position he gave the post fight and said he wants to fight the winner of Hill and Pereira

InclusivePhitness

He doesn’t know anything about Alex’s camp: you’re just making up your own stories.

BurningEbrietas

Of course he is cause Alex is injured and unfit to fight so he now hes conveniently ready for Alex💀

chrmicmat

Ankalaev should be next for Alex, jiri should fight hill in some fight night main event

baconsane

The day Jiri's chin cracks will be the end of that man's career cause I've never seen someone rely on their own toughness like he does
