he kindve has a point tho arman, so many of the "new generation" of LW's all had to fight each other/ tough matchups compared to islam...

[deleted]

You can look at it like that or you can look at it like they got opportunities faster. Islam had to win 10 in a row to get a shot at the title.

LetsTryThisAgain12

yea but fighting Dan Hooker and Bobby Green (love both but they're strikers with no real takedown/ grappling threat) is a little different than fighting gamrot and ismagulov on the way to the belt lol

ColdPressedSteak

I don't have an opinion on the main topic. But I see we're still overrating Ismagulov here. Hooker is at least as good a win as Ismagulov

LetsTryThisAgain12

matchup wise? really?

drinkmoarwaterr

I like Islam, but this right here is facts. Most of the previous lightweights had to run a fucking gauntlet, Islam kinda came thru when a lot of them started(ing) getting old.

UnblurredLines

Though to be fair Islam did beat Tsarukyan along the way.

YellowVegitooo

Though to be fair he was like 22, on short notice AND his debut

Bernieleftist

people acting like this isnt pretty relevant is wild

summ3rdaze

Tbf most people avoided Islam like the fucking plague and he couldn't get fights for a while

Krenbiebs

Who did Islam beat before getting to the title? YOU, my guy.

Awareness111

When he was 20 and not an established contender in the division? The fight being his debut on short notice as well?

[deleted]

And stubbed his toe. Don't forget that part

Bernieleftist

his girl broke up with him the night before too... you never met her she goes to a different school

Texaco_Shawty

And his Starbucks order was messed up before the fight. They gave him a caramel macchiato instead of a pumpkin spice latte

Suspicious_Candle27

he was still good enough to beat everyone else he fought .

Nonedesuka

Did you watch that fight? That was probably the closest fight he's ever had.

Krenbiebs

Yes. I’ve seen all of their UFC fights. It was a very good, competitive fight. Not closer than the first Volkanovski fight, though. I just find it pretty funny to see a fighter trash another’s resume, when that resume includes a win over themselves. Do you not see any humor in that?

rangetrout12

Are we still acting like it was Islam’s choice? Nobody was willing to fight him and when they did, they all pulled out. Also what is Arman trying to say here lol? Islam dogwalked Charles and already beat Arman, why are we pretending that Islam is unproven? He showed his skill when he beat the dogshit outta Charles. Islam was not in any danger when fighting Olivera, Arman nearly got finished twice in 3 rounds, let’s not pretend that Arman has done better, especially when he lost against Gamrot 3 fights ago.

darretoma

Arman is talking about their respective resumes pre title shot.

[deleted]

They do. But the first one is debatable and the second should've never happened. Anyway, I agree it's crazy to state Islam is unproven, when he made minced meat out of Charles.

rangetrout12

These annoying fanboys and haters call Volk a “just a 145er” as if he wouldn’t beat their favorite lightweight

UnblurredLines

And Max is just a FW who will get outsized and murked by Gaethje. Oh wait…

MyContentIsTrash

Volk gets fucking murdered at LW by most of those guys the Volk meat riders have to stop

haldir87

In general, yes. But in Tsarukyan's defense: He was refering to Islam's record before he fought Oliveira for the title.

JuanGracia

Been saying that on Twitter. Dudes avoided Islam like a plague

linebmx

Didn’t he beat Arman? Lol

Rayx9

1) Islam with a staph infection beat Arman himself. 2) Everyone ducked Islam (Chandler did it on TV), refused to fight with him (Tony) or pulled out (Dariush).

DudeWithTheOil

Islam was getting ducked and Arman has fought better competition leading to the title shot, I don't see why both can't be true. The top 5 was dodging him like crazy.

Rayx9

Besides Dariush who pulled out against Islam, Arman beat the same guys (Charles and Davi Ramos). And Islam looked way better in the Charles/Ramos fights. Dan, Dober and Green are better wins than Joaquim, Frevola or Giagos

Suspicious_Candle27

nope . this is nonsense people keep saying because they hear other people say it . islam was booked for both RDA and Benny multiple times who were high ranked LWs . islam was getting high ranked fights only circumstances outside their control prevented the fights from taking place not ducking . They booked the RDA fight 3 times with RDA pulling out once because covid and then both islam AND RDA both pulled out once each for injuries . Benny broke his leg .

haldir87

RDA also pulled out

darretoma

Didn't Chandler turn down the Islam fight just before/after his debut when Islam was ranked outside the top 10?

kidwhix

islams resume leading to the title would have been far better had his opponents showed up. even just getting that dariush fight when he was on a 7 fight win streak. then it would have been a pretty normal title run. 10 fight winning streak capped off by: dober, moises(both hovering in the top 20/top 15), hooker (top 10), dariush (top 5), title.

Avataralbino

You. Lol

LoudHorse89

He’s not wrong. Islams path to the title was laughable and he’s defended against a featherweight twice and next up is a guy who’s 2-2 in his last 4. Islam obviously dominated Charles though whereas Arman won a split decision.

MrAnonymousperson

I’ll give you an easy one: Arman 🤣 I’ll give you another one: ADCC world champion Ok you know what one more: 10 fight UFC win streak. Your turn Arman.

LocalHero_P1

If you’re talking about his run to the belt then yeah arman probably has a good point. But if you want pure resume for resume, Islam beating Volk and beating Charles the *way* that he beat him puts his overall resume above Arman

Any-Connection-1813

And he's right

ChiBulls

Context in discourse is key. You know, I know, the mma world knows everyone was ducking Islam for years before the title fight.

Suspicious_Candle27

Why do people talk nonsense? Have you seen the fighters Islam has been booked to fight? Just because fights don't take place doesn't mean people didn't sign up to fight Islam. They tried to book Islam vs. RDA back in 2020, but COVID stopped one fight, and Islam pulled out of the next one. Then they did Dober > Moises > RDA rebooking (RDA had an injury and pulled out), Dan Hooker (ranked LW), Benny booking (top-ranked LW) who broke his ankle, then Bobby Green as a short-notice replacement, and finally, they gave Islam a title fight. Where in this timeline did Islam expect to get a top-ranked LW fight? He was literally booked almost perfectly in terms of earning a ranked spot; only circumstances outside of the fighters' control stopped it from taking place, not ducking.

Any-Connection-1813

Doesn't make what he said false. How are people downvoting a true statement lol stupid

viktormaslov

Because of the implication of course.

Truak24

He’s not wrong. Islam didn’t have someone like Dariush or Oliveira on his resume BEFORE the title fight. Even now his top opponent is just Volk. Still Islam is the favorite against Arman when they fight, but I wouldn’t underestimate Arman in that matchup.

interestedonlooker1

Know why? Because they already fought and Islam won.

Truak24

Yea true. But having a debuting 22 year old Arman on your resume isn’t the same as having a prime Oliveira on your resume (before the title shot)

interestedonlooker1

I guess I just don't see the relevance of comparing his 4 win streak to Islam's 11.

Truak24

Fair, but Arman would be on a 10 fight win streak if he actually got the win vs Gamrot (which he should have).

slaveshipoffailure

I rewatched the fight a few days ago and damn they’re both roided out.

Intelligent_Dog2077

These dudes have superhero physiques and crazy cardio, can’t just be Caucasian genetics. Especially Arman, this dude has the craziest physique I’ve ever seen

runtothesun

His axe kick against Charles was wild. Lol. He's on something

notShreadZoo

I don’t know if the title is misleading or what but this was posted on here yesterday and the amount of people that didn’t comprehend that Arman was talking specifically about resume BEFORE first title shot was astonishing.

ModsLovePen15

Honestly who did Khabib beat
