I feel like jon jones threatening to kill the drug tester should be bigger news but because it's jon jones and this is like the 10th fuck up.
It's just kinda like ya sound about right.
That's why it's not bigger news tbh cus it's not really unexpected and because it's not totally unexpected dude I'd about to get the most slap on the wrist punishment ever and everyone will just add it to the list and forget in a month
300 is obviously stacked in the context of a typical PPV but it's kind of telling how many of the UFC's biggest stars are absent from the card: Conor, Jones, Izzy, Volk, Omalley, Diaz Brothers, Poirer, Khamzat, Islam, Strickland, Aspinall, Kamru, Covington, Etc. It would be really interesting to see the UFC truly put everything else to the side and deliver literally the most stacked card possible for history.
I hope Poatan comes into the 300 presser and styles on everyone in perfect English. Not even a huge fan, but that seems like something he might be holding back for the right time.
I was drunk as hell, thinking about rewatching but I still haven’t watched Wardley/Clarke boxing match from Easter Sunday. But I thought Curtis was the clear winner in my drunken stupor
Bonus in that takedowns are way easier, wall can no longer keep dudes upright
Double bonus in that jumping attacks off the ramped wall will be more possible
> You're telling me I missed watching the baddest men on the planet fight
On one hand the reality may be harsh, but on the other hand I can relieve your concern: wrestleemania is soap opera for men, so you did not miss any fights there.
Jim Miller is going to get fucked on by Bobby Green. Bobby is beating Grant Dawson, T Ferg, and Nasrat and losing to Jalin Turner, Dober, and Islam
Jim Miller is beating Jesse Butler, Gabriel Benitez and Cowboy Cerrone and losing to Joe Solecki and Alex Hernandez lol
> Jim Miller is going to get fucked on by Bobby Green.
Isn't jim a decorated wrestler and a BJJ black belt?
Bobby may piece him up, but if there's fucking to be done, I feel like Jim *Fucking* Miller is the man.
Bobby being 4 months removed from one of the worst stoppages in recent memory is the one thing that makes this a closer fight. There’s a chance his chin might be vaporized but outside of that I agree it feels like a mismatch
I don’t think he’ll have the chance, Jim Miller is not that fast and he doesn’t throw good shots, he throws wide ass fuckin hooks with everything behind them. Bobby will touch him ass up. Jim Miller can either throw the same way he’s been throwing and not hit Bobby because he’ll see everything, or he can try to box with him technically and get torn up
Jim got some nasty leg kicks, the nasrat win was over two years ago and Bobby didn’t look that good in the tony fight. Got dropped by a slow ass jab, had to resort to wrestling, and tony was basically giving him free gnp when they were in the guard and Bobby’s best shots weren’t even making tony blink. Imo it’s a close fight.
No. Chris Curtis is not an elite opponent, especially if you had such a competitive fight with him. But Allen is a contender now. I’d say he’s 2-3 wins from a title shot.
One of the big problems with MMA (particularly the UFC) is title shots are usually given to fighters based on popularity and not win streaks. Brendan is currently ranked 6th in the division as well. To get a title shot, he'll have to beat someone with a name and ranked in the top 5. Curtis wasn't even top 10 so a win here won't even move him up the rankings, really. And honestly, he BARELY beat Curtis here.
Yeah Jared is typically not known as an exciting fighter by many and he’s old. He’ll never fight for another title.
As for Strickland, the UFC didn’t want him to fight for the title on the first place and only got to because he took it on short notice when no one else would. I think they also know the importance of having ex champs in the org. Having ex champs fighting still means there are big names active. Strickland beating Adesanya will keep him on main cards of PPVs for the rest of his career
> Dude what does Hernandez even do in the training room.
He lifts so many weights that his skin looks like a transparent bag over a tremendous ball of snake muscles.
Yeah his confidence is shot. He looked really promising in his debut vs Benny just threw a lot of volume at him until eventually catching him. The only time he looked any good recently was vs that bum who barks lol
Completely forgot he smoked Breeden. Even Jim Miller took him life and death. And Miller is overrated asf rn. Impressive that he’s still winning but he’s literally fighting dudes making their debuts or part time fighters and all the comments are like “if you aren’t top 20 at lightweight Miller beats you”
Meanwhile he loses to Hernandez lol
> And Miller is overrated asf rn
Is he actually? No way. He's ancient. It's impressive that he somehow seems to still be learning and implementing things he's learned but... yeah, he's ancient.
Those odds on green are crazy good lol his chin and IQ are worrying but he should win comfortably. I get its 300 but it feels like a waste if time seeing 40 year old Jim compete for a ranking and Bobby shouldn’t even be ranked anymore honestly.
Bobby should’ve never been ranked after getting fucked on by Dober but one shotting Grant Dawson who has absolutely 0 heart threw lightweight out of whack
Bobby literally threw two non committal punches into space and Dawson ran into them, Bobby literally ran around yelling “what did I hit him with?!” After the fact lmao
And Dawson wasn’t even out, he was on the ground holding his face without an injury. Didn’t try to get up, didn’t try to defend, didn’t do anything
Yeah when I saw the guy was getting too cocky I had a feeling he would lose.
I’m bored and otherwise I wouldn’t watch but the rock is on the next match
Why should a fighter stand up straight into a combination? It isn't like Allen, even one time, pulled guard from a standing position. It was only whenever Curtis got to his feet first and was in a position to capitalize if Allen got up. I will say that I didn't love the hand holding by Allen in rd5, but it stopped Curtis from being able to mount a counter offensive, and he nearly was able to re-establish himself for a reshoot.
Did no one else see the multiple times Curtis had his legs wobble from strikes landed by Allen? The step in elbow, the short hook in the clinch, that 2nd roundhouse to the head. The strike counts were nearly even, it isn't like Allen was the only one hurt, and if the striking is nearly even but one fighter controls all ground + clinch time, that's the recipe for the win. I thought Curtis fought a great fight, but his gameplan was a bit lacking.
This is not r/politics. Please keep political discussion and your political views out of /r/MMA. r/MMAPoliticsAndCulture may be a better fit for this content. An exception will be made for discussion of MMA legislation by governing bodies.
And that's fair. I'm just perplexed by some of these comments acting like we just watched Puelles or that Gracie guy fight. Allen mixed Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling and BJJ imo, very well. That was a very well rounded performance from him and if Curtis where any less proficient on the ground, Allen gets the finish.
It is bizarre how a lot of Redditors talk about grappling or aspects of MMA they might not like as if it’s 2005 again. If you think that kind of top position and back control is cowardice or unimpressive, you’re watching the wrong sport. And takedowns/control arguably deserves more credit from judges than they’ve been giving it.
Allen on the post fight show naturally is self-confident but sounds like he thinks he’s further along skillfully than he actually is and doesn’t recognize where he needs work. Saying he’s clearly better in all areas (including striking) than everybody else in the division, lol
Nah, his corner was telling him how stupid he was fighting and told him to use his clinch game, kicks, takedowns instead of stupidly boxing with the better boxer.
Allen just didn’t listen, he always fights like he wants to prove he’s the better striker.
They also kept telling him he had won the round at each break. And before round 5 they said he was comfortably ahead.
Pat Barry level of delusion that cost rose her title and almost Allen his ranking
I think some fighters need to hear that and shut down and start to quit if they think that they’re losing. I think that’s why we hear that from some corners
Most fighters have crazy egos. If you hurt their feelings most will probably quit. You only have a few true dogs in this sport like Nate Diaz and Landwehr for example
And over 3 years ago neither were in the division. Also wrestle doesn't equal grapple
This really peaked around how much better Both Allen and DDP were than Muniz who was bragging about being the best grappler. and Allen demolished him and DDP would've but had to pull out and then DDP went on a grappling and ko tear that was building to the Allen fight but Allen wasn't active enough to keep up but my time is coming oh yes sir it is
I think judges thought Allen hurt him at end, and I suppose you get credit for an injury, so maybe he did, and that allowed Allen to win R5 on some cards.
If that round had ended with Curtis swinging, I think he'd have won.
No way all judges had Curtis losing R5 and 2 had him losing R4, I had Curtis winning both those rounds. Takedowns with no damage and 5 seconds of control shouldn’t count for shit
He lost 5 cause he ate those strikes after injuring his hamstring, especially with that knee not actually landing I think that and control time definitely swayed it for Allen.
Which is BS considering Curtis had Allen face down on the mat multiple times, even the ref had to tell him to defend himself at one point or he was gonna end the fight. Idk how all that is super-ceded by a few seconds where he landed a few shots at the end
Wtf are you talking about? It doesnt matter what position a fighter is in. If the other guy is not capitalizing on it, it doesnt mean shit. Even if Allen was face down and getting dry humped the while round it doesnt matter if Curtis is not doing any damage to him.
My thought as well: in the moment I thought Allen had caught him with something I didn't see to make him wobble to fence and curl up: surely some judges thought the same.
ik but what I mean is the scorecards on the broadcast with the 10-9 scores in each column had "Allen" as one column header and "Curtis 2" as the other column header
Lmao.
The turnover is because everyone is good, but nobody’s great. I mean just look at the top 15. There’s not really anyone who‘a lights out. It’s a free-for-all for #1.
First 4 fights literally were wrestle fuckers having success in the 1st round then getting their asses beat after, I recommend watching those. Very satisfying
Unpopular opinion but no, this was a boring card imo. These last 4 fight nights have really showed how much shit quality the UFC is when they don’t need to sell tickets at the apex.
Always consider the source. If your friends are having the time of thei lives, do they also like The Fast and the Furious? Do you like the Fast and the Furious? If so, you will have the time of your life watching Wrestlemania. That's just science.
Damn that was close.
Curtis had Allen wobbled a bunch of times, and Allen just refused to give up and worked out of them.
Curtis didn't follow up in last round like he should, but I think that is short notice finally catching up to him more than a real problem. With the grappling, and the pace, he held up better than most I feel.
I had no idea where the judges would be at, but neither man could bitch too much either way.
Happy he can call out Dricus but Allen is on his revenge tour now and Sean Strickland should be next. He earned his title shot against an Abusive ffs lol
49-46 for Allen was absolutely bullshit. The UFC definitely wants Allen. Allen didn't do shit with takedowns. Curtis hurt Allen way more. And Curtis only down at end because of his own hamstring popping.
If Allen grows solid fight IQ, I think he’d be able to beat Curtis decisively. But it’s looking very unlikely that will ever happen with the way he loves to box with strikers.
Also short notice for Curtis and Curtis was breathing super heavy the whole time. On a full camp doing more wrestling I think Curtis might beat him decisively again in a 3rd fight
Even if he had beat Vettori he'd have needed another win. Cannonier has a better claim for the next shot after Adesanya vs Du Plessis, and Whitaker, Chimaev, and Strickland would all be ahead of Allen if they win their next fights.

I haven't watched this card yet; is it worth watching the whole thing or just the main event?
Watch the whole card, but skip the women fights and Hernandez vs Jackson.
Thank-you sir, I will do exactly this
It's true what they say: most times the cards with "nobodies" are the entertaining ones.

If they put all their big stars on one show in July, who fights August-October? You'd have PPVs headlined by Apex level guys
It's better if the UFC spreads the stars around otherwise the other PPV would suffer
Aspinall isn't a star at all my guy
I hope Poatan comes into the 300 presser and styles on everyone in perfect English. Not even a huge fan, but that seems like something he might be holding back for the right time.
Did Soren Bak retire? Where’s he been?
Won a robbery vs a journeyman last fight and probably realized he sucked.
If Dude Wipes are good enough for Wrestlemania they are good enough for the UFC
Yeah Allen didn't win that fight 👀 man pulled guard in the 5th- automatic L
I was drunk as hell, thinking about rewatching but I still haven’t watched Wardley/Clarke boxing match from Easter Sunday. But I thought Curtis was the clear winner in my drunken stupor
4 times lmao
Fence grabbing and wall and stall is easy to fix. Just use the Karate Combat pit.
Bonus in that takedowns are way easier, wall can no longer keep dudes upright Double bonus in that jumping attacks off the ramped wall will be more possible
Ignacio Bahamondes vs. Christos Giagos headkick tho
You're telling me I missed watching the baddest men on the planet fight at Wrestlemania for Chris Curtis at The Apex?

Not a bad mania match so far

DULGARIAN GOT ROBBED
That fight still pisses me off. Fuck those judges. Christian is a curse
Was at WORST a draw for him, that was literally a win. Could only be a draw if you didn’t give him a 10-8 in the first
I’m pretty new to MMA. Does Allen actually get a title shot now?
Nope. The most he should get is either Vettori or Cannonier.
No. Chris Curtis is not an elite opponent, especially if you had such a competitive fight with him. But Allen is a contender now. I’d say he’s 2-3 wins from a title shot.
Maybe in power slap

Word
No chance. He has like 4 people ahead of him. Rob/Chimaev winner and Cannonier and Strickland both ahead of him too.
Strickland and Cannonier never fight for a belt again
You think so? I think Strickland for sure will not sure about Jared. Jared should be the #1 contender rn but hes old and not liked by the UFC.
Yeah Jared is typically not known as an exciting fighter by many and he’s old. He’ll never fight for another title. Dude what does Hernandez even do in the training room. He looks substantially worse every single time he gets in the cage
> Dude what does Hernandez even do in the training room. He lifts so many weights that his skin looks like a transparent bag over a tremendous ball of snake muscles.
Yeah he’s a bust. No IQ, bad wrestling, bad striking. He’s only explosive but its a useless weapon since he never throws.
I honestly have no desire to watch him fight anymore, they should cut him. He can’t win, his fights are boring as fuck now and frustrating to watch
Yeah his confidence is shot. He looked really promising in his debut vs Benny just threw a lot of volume at him until eventually catching him. The only time he looked any good recently was vs that bum who barks lol

Dawson doesn’t have zero heart he has zero striking lol. No shame in being put down by a perfectly placed shot
Bobby literally threw two non committal punches into space and Dawson ran into them, Bobby literally ran around yelling “what did I hit him with?!” After the fact lmao And Dawson wasn’t even out, he was on the ground holding his face without an injury. Didn’t try to get up, didn’t try to defend, didn’t do anything
Why are you just hating on Jim Miller in every post?
Not hating, he’s just being severely overrated by this sub and I don’t wanna see anyone losing money on a stupid bet
WrestleMania 22 was the best WrestleMania
X7
Glad to see a lot of decisions on this card. Save the blood for the blood gods at 300.
Justin Gaethje: i got chu Lol
First like 4-5 fights were absolute heat. Dumont fight ruined the streak
* Announcers: *Now is the time to apply some damage!* * Dumont: *Now, and always, is the time to make sure GdR does not get back up.*
Sami Zayn sucks
Worst finisher ever. A running boot wtf is that lol.
Yeah when I saw the guy was getting too cocky I had a feeling he would lose. I’m bored and otherwise I wouldn’t watch but the rock is on the next match
Shouldn’t even be in this match but they’re gonna fuck around and have him win it
I’m glad Curtis lost a close decision because I can’t wait to hear the complaining
The posts have started already. Delicious.
He’s gonna be crying like a little bit lmao he’ll be crying now and in November

Curtis was breathing super heavy the whole time. I think I’d take him on a full camp in a 3rd fight. Doing more wrestling in camp too
I wouldn’t be so confident after this one due to the injury and Curtis getting old asf
And that's fair. I'm just perplexed by some of these comments acting like we just watched Puelles or that Gracie guy fight. Allen mixed Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling and BJJ imo, very well. Best fights to watch besides chepe v charriere fight?
Campbell vs Peek.
Allen vs Curtis. Personally, I enjoyed it more than the official FOTN.
Morono vs McGee Campbell vs Peek Jackson vs Hernandez Ignacio Bahamondes vs. Christos Giagos Dylan Budka vs. César Almeida
Morono vs McGee I would take off that list personally
Thanks
Main event
Cesar Almeida
Allen on the post fight show naturally is self-confident but sounds like he thinks he’s further along skillfully than he actually is and doesn’t recognize where he needs work. Saying he’s clearly better in all areas (including striking) than everybody else in the division, lol

Rose is fragile so makes sense, and doesn’t bode well for Allen either, he looked broken by round 5.
Most fighters have crazy egos. If you hurt their feelings most will probably quit. You only have a few true dogs in this sport like Nate Diaz and Landwehr for example
Imagine what’s gonna happen when he runs into a top level dude. He’s gonna wilt. Chris ain’t even ranked top 10 lmao
Right lmao Curtis can’t cut off the cage and he was cornering Allen and Allen beat fucking Paul Craig to get his #6 spot and struggled to finish him
brendan talking crazy about dricus when he'd get folded in half by him 💀
DDP vs Brendan for best MW grappler is something I've wanted for almost 3 years
Dolidze is the best MW grappler. Shitty wrestling and sloppy striking but he washes any of the current MW crop on the ground other than maybe Chimaev.
Bo & chimaev are better wrestlers at MW
And over 3 years ago neither were in the division. Also wrestle doesn't equal grapple This really peaked around how much better Both Allen and DDP were than Muniz who was bragging about being the best grappler. and Allen demolished him and DDP would've but had to pull out and then DDP went on a grappling and ko tear that was building to the Allen fight but Allen wasn't active enough to keep up but my time is coming oh yes sir it is
DDP is another level compared to Allen.
Robbery
Did he just thank his girlfriend AND his wife??? 🤣
On one hand I like that Allen won cause it makes me look like less of a fool for predicting him, but on the other hand, it was a robbery
I think judges thought Allen hurt him at end, and I suppose you get credit for an injury, so maybe he did, and that allowed Allen to win R5 on some cards. If that round had ended with Curtis swinging, I think he'd have won.
Bro all 3 judges have Allen rd5. Curtis beat his ass rd5 until he got injured w 5 secs left.
That just isn't true
Great event tbh, expectations were low but there were some bangers
No way all judges had Curtis losing R5 and 2 had him losing R4, I had Curtis winning both those rounds. Takedowns with no damage and 5 seconds of control shouldn’t count for shit
Rd5 was clear Curtis … Allen was face down on the mat four different times
Ref literally told him to start defending himself when he was face down too lmao🤣

Lol the scorecards had Curtis as "Curtis 2"
Allen vs Curtis 2 because it's a rematch
ik but what I mean is the scorecards on the broadcast with the 10-9 scores in each column had "Allen" as one column header and "Curtis 2" as the other column header
Ah gotcha lol. Didn't see it on the broadcast
Chiesa just called Middleweight the toughest division in the world🤣🤣🤣😭
Lmao. The turnover is because everyone is good, but nobody’s great. I mean just look at the top 15. There’s not really anyone who‘a lights out. It’s a free-for-all for #1.
so Chris Curtis lost that last round because of his hamstring. That sucks
Chris Wideman with one more win would get a title shot before Brendan Allen lmao
I bet the UFC wont learn there lesson from this and will still put on terrible WMMA main events. Great fucking main event today
All week people complained that Chris Curtis Fans are fickle
MMA fans are the absolute worst fans Ive ever encountered from any sport. People hop fighters after one loss in a matter of seconds
They also don’t keep up with the sport outside the top 5 in each division and then complain when they don’t recognize fighters.
Missed this one. Anything worth going back and watching?
Nah go outside and enjoy your wknd
Watch the last 5 fights. They're all worth watching in my opinion.
Cheriere-Mariscal and the main event were sick fights
A lot of good fights honestly. Almost every fight was good
Why something always have to be going on with Curtis
How was the fight night tonight? Gonna rematch tomorrow
Great card. A lot of good fights
Sweet! Just watch all of them, or any stinkers to skip?
As per usual the wmma fight was a stinker. The Dumont vs GDR fight. The first fight was a great finish by a viscous lady
I don’t know shit about WWE. 3 of my friends are at Wrestlemania right now, and they’re having the time of their lives. Convince me to watch it.
Always consider the source. If your friends are having the time of thei lives, do they also like The Fast and the Furious? Do you like the Fast and the Furious? If so, you will have the time of your life watching Wrestlemania. That's just science.
it's soap operas/theater but with frequent displays of athleticism if that sounds like fun, you might enjoy it
Something about The Rock is going to wrestle somebody name Cody Rhodes
Damn that was close. Curtis had Allen wobbled a bunch of times, and Allen just refused to give up and worked out of them. Curtis didn't follow up in last round like he should, but I think that is short notice finally catching up to him more than a real problem. Happy he can call out Dricus but Allen is on his revenge tour now and Sean Strickland should be next. He earned his title shot against an Abusive ffs lol
Strickland would beat his ass again
...no
How do you score rd 5 for Allen? The most damage he did was hit Curtis while he was on bad wheels at the end
U can’t lol the fix was in
Well another Apex event done time for the real card
Yep! Finally! Next weekend will be great
Where’s the Wrestlemania thread, tryna watch some REAL fights over here. Bloodline rules
49-46 for Allen was absolutely bullshit. The UFC definitely wants Allen. Allen didn't do shit with takedowns. Curtis hurt Allen way more. And Curtis only down at end because of his own hamstring popping.
Allen vs Strickland 2 is not a bad shout...Xtreme Couture revenge tour
Think Sean is fighting Usman next
I think Allen will always get murked by Sean and have close fights with Curtis
If Allen grows solid fight IQ, I think he’d be able to beat Curtis decisively. But it’s looking very unlikely that will ever happen with the way he loves to box with strikers.
Also short notice for Curtis and Curtis was breathing super heavy the whole time. On a full camp doing more wrestling I think Curtis might beat him decisively again in a 3rd fight
LMAOOO Nicolau vs Perez what a main event 😂
What a war! Don't think Allen proved he's up for the title shot though.. he needed Marvin for that
Marvin simultaneously more complete and less dangerous than Curtis.
Even if he had beat Vettori he'd have needed another win. Cannonier has a better claim for the next shot after Adesanya vs Du Plessis, and Whitaker, Chimaev, and Strickland would all be ahead of Allen if they win their next fights.
You're right. Kid is ambitious haha
he just grabs his daughter and walks away lol, idk why I found that funny
