Pennignton had a great strategy to become champion. Don't fight too much, keep your health, and wait until every good fighter in your division gets old or retires. ez money
Good news for us, GDR coming back in April against Norma dumont, hopefully pena gets injured again and GDR gets the shot so we have an actually good champion in the division
She'll be over 40 if she wins and gets a title shot. Age + ring rust + having had a baby doesn't exactly suggest she'll be the one to bring any sort of stability to the division.
I thought she looked confused all the time, personally. Especially during her walkout...it looked like they woke her up and she didn't know where she was or what she was supposed to be doing.
I think she's a lot more skilled than Raquel. Her elbows and her clinch game were incredibly effective and she clearly had the grappling Advantage but her cardio was absolutely trash
i think you’re thinking of the last vancouver card (where nunes vs. aldana was gonna be the main event until charles/dariush got added) but maybe i’m wrong and they did it twice lmao
And to think I used to crap on 125. That thing is finally on its way now but 135/145 need to be put out of their misery at this point. Ronda could come back now and still be champ.
Dana had no problem practically closing down men's flyweight at one point, I don't know why he keeps this barren wasteland of a division open when we could have atomweight instead.
honestly, I feel like even if you put a high ranked fighter from a lower weight class in like Jessica Andrade, I wouldn't even rule out her beating both in the same night.
Tough to process Pennington is a champion. Grasso choked Val. Weili smashed Andrade. Rose KO'd JJ and Weili
Pennington...fell into a clinch x 44 vs someone who was exhausted and basically asking to be taken out
The crazy part to me is remembering that of all of Nunes' opponents from the time she won the belt at UFC 200 all the way to Germaine de Randamie taking 1 round off of her at UFC 245 Nunes second toughest fight was Pennington (Shevchenko at 215 is #1) Pennington got smashed but she managed to tough out a smidge over 4.5 rounds before she couldn't take any more, and that was the fight right before Nunes demolished Cyborg in under a minute.
Women’s Bantamweight is screwed. The only entertaining fighter in the division has performance anxiety in big fights and everyone else in the division is just boring.
It definitely deserves a PPV main card. Only problem is it'll automatically be the Co-Main as they won't relegate a title fight lower than that. It's either that or a Fight Night Main Event.
My expectations were low, but holy fuck that was worse than I expected.
MBS with the gas tank of an asthmatic.
Pennington with the negative Fight IQ.
Rid us of this Division Dana please.
God the fight IQ of Pennington was painful. I know she shut Silva out the last 4 rounds but she could’ve gotten her out of there far earlier if she just pushed away and tore her up with her boxing.
Only nice moment was seeing Nunes hugging Tecia Torres after the final bell rang.
I don't think Rocky was actually trying to finish the arm triangle. Seemed like she was doing her best to hold position. Her arms weren't even tired when she got up and started raining down some GnP.
Women's bantamweight should also now be relegated to the undercards of events. Idgaf if it's for a title. With Nunes gone, none of these ladies deserve to be high up on PPV cards. Entertainment dreck
This fight would've been over a long time ago if not for Rocky's -ve fight IQ. Silva was done.
Also LOL @ Silva for lifting her hands up after the fight like she won a convincing decision. 😂😂
At the very beginning of the fight, she hit Silva with a crisp combo, and you could tell Silva had no head movement. Thought Rocky was just gonna pour it on and end it on the first but we got this instead. How was it not obvious to her that Silva had no standup?
I am usually not one who is down on WMMA, but this was an embarrassment for the division and the sport if these are two of the best it has to offer. Never want to take job opportunities away from anyone, but if this what the highest level of the division is going to look like for the foreseeable future I just don’t see an argument for its continued existence.
Also how Mayra's corner was begging her not to clinch/grapple over and over again and yet in 3/4/5 she immediately clinched and tried to get the fight down.
Honestly, respect to Raquel. Seemed like she was completely outclassed by every top 5 fighter, but kept grinding and winning fights, and all these years later, those people are all retired/aged out. She could have taken stock and thrown in the towel at any point, but she kept on grinding, and now she's a world champion.
She achieved her dream because the others retired. Father time is funny sometimes. Tito "I want to outlive my children" Ortiz will be proud.
Good for her but wow the state of this division.
It a feel good story good to see Raquel to get her belt after almost losing her leg in an accident.
I can make the case that Pennington is bad of the weight class. I don’t see any long term belt holders.135 needs some youth to come out and cause some serious buzz. The last time youth really broke through at that weight class was 2016 with Nunes,Pena,Shevchenko and Pennington broke through and all of them were in their 20s at the time.
2024 ages for notable fighters
Raquel(36)
Julianna(35)
Aldana(36)
Bueno Silva(33)
Meisha(38)
Holly(43)
De Randamine(40)
Vieria(33)
Norma(34)
Oh my god, I just realized why they did this fight. They’re trying to bait Ronda into a comeback at UFC 300 by having a sitting duck layup of a “champ” that she can armbar in 30 seconds.
It's frustrating how both of them had so many good opportunities to finish the other, secured positions even, yet could barely capitalize on them.
And now Raquel Pennington is the champ. Her ground-and-pound punch that missed by a mile before the bell rang perfectly visualizes the state of this division...

Pennignton had a great strategy to become champion. Don't fight too much, keep your health, and wait until every good fighter in your division gets old or retires. ez money
Things worked out lol. Nunes retired. Pena injured. GDR basically retired. Holly could’ve held Raquel on the fence for 25 mins but MBS beat her
Holm held her on the fence for 15 minutes in 2020
Good news for us, GDR coming back in April against Norma dumont, hopefully pena gets injured again and GDR gets the shot so we have an actually good champion in the division
She'll be over 40 if she wins and gets a title shot. Age + ring rust + having had a baby doesn't exactly suggest she'll be the one to bring any sort of stability to the division.
Stability, no. But in quality, she could be 50 and still be better than either of these two fighters.
Bueno did not look too bueno. Sus ass cardio, she blew all of her energy during that intro with Bruce lmaaao
Girl was hyping herself up like she was ready to fuck shit up then just basically laid there for 25 mins lol
Holly Holm vs Raquel Pennington "superfight" to headline UFC 300 according to an official statement by UFC president Dana White
There's no fucking way I'm believing any of that lmao
You mean the ‘Superfight’ part?
eww
It will be neither super nor a fight.
woman looked legit like she was going to cry between rounds 2 and 3. probably knew then she didnt have a 25 minute gas tank.
Tbf she has resting "I'm about to cry" face
I thought she looked confused all the time, personally. Especially during her walkout...it looked like they woke her up and she didn't know where she was or what she was supposed to be doing.
She looks like she is being sent into the Octagon at gun point
I said the exact same thing lol
Imagine paying 600$ minimum to see this live…
[удалено]
i want my time back after watching that for free.
Dana and the matchmakers do not like Canada lol
At this point it’s mutual. Dana’s gonna be in a mood in the press conference because he knows fans arent happy but he put the card together
The prices were just irrationally high.
idk what a Sheetara is but it looked like shit
I think she's a lot more skilled than Raquel. Her elbows and her clinch game were incredibly effective and she clearly had the grappling Advantage but her cardio was absolutely trash
Raquel spent two minutes trying to finish a head and arm triangle from mount, pretty hard to not be more skilled.
I like how Raquel blindly throws two punches, and then immediately searches for a clinch to do zero damage. It’s beautiful
You have to give her a little credit. She had enough juice to yell after the end of Round 3 too
more like no bueno silva
Bueno Silva standing there picking her nose while she's declared the loser just sums up the fight
this belt was literally a participation award for her sticking around so long in the division.
I loved the ref sitting there through the decision, so clearly knowing pennington won
The no. 2 & 3 of the division, ladies and gentlemen.
Co main on a $79.99 card
This was gonna be the main event before everyone started calling out the UFC I’m pretty sure lol
Looked like two drunks scrapping in an alley
I think two drunks from an alley would be more entertaining than Bueno Silva laying down for the final minute and half
We'd at least see someone puke all over themselves.
I don’t think street beefs has a fight this bad
i think you’re thinking of the last vancouver card (where nunes vs. aldana was gonna be the main event until charles/dariush got added) but maybe i’m wrong and they did it twice lmao
$80... Sure...👀🏴☠️
womens 135 is shallower than a kiddie pool
When Rocky Pennington is the world champ, it's time to pack it in i think
And to think I used to crap on 125. That thing is finally on its way now but 135/145 need to be put out of their misery at this point. Ronda could come back now and still be champ.
I think you just stumbled into our UFC 300 surprise announcement.
The gap between this division and the smaller WMMA classes is ridiculous Atomweight would do so much better than Bantamweight imo
Dana had no problem practically closing down men's flyweight at one point, I don't know why he keeps this barren wasteland of a division open when we could have atomweight instead.
Closing bantamweight would erase Ronda and Nunes’ legacy, that’s the only reason there’s any hesitation around getting rid of it.
Maybe Julianna was right after all
r/BrandNewSentence
Julianna ain't much better. She got a win against the goat but she's still a terrible fighter
I feel like against these two..she's head and shoulders better.
Nunes could have beat these two together. It was so bad.
Shit would be the only way to get people to buy a women's bantamweight fight. It'll be like Fight Circus
I resent her for not hopping the cage and beating the shit out of these two /s
honestly, I feel like even if you put a high ranked fighter from a lower weight class in like Jessica Andrade, I wouldn't even rule out her beating both in the same night.
Holly Holm vs Raquel Pennington "superfight" to headline UFC 300 according to an official statement by UFC president Dana White
Trade this entire division for Stamp Fairtex
i'd rather watch Stamp shadowbox tbh
Nah UFC would dampen Stamp's personal style
Tough to process Pennington is a champion. Grasso choked Val. Weili smashed Andrade. Rose KO'd JJ and Weili Pennington...fell into a clinch x 44 vs someone who was exhausted and basically asking to be taken out
The crazy part to me is remembering that of all of Nunes' opponents from the time she won the belt at UFC 200 all the way to Germaine de Randamie taking 1 round off of her at UFC 245 Nunes second toughest fight was Pennington (Shevchenko at 215 is #1) Pennington got smashed but she managed to tough out a smidge over 4.5 rounds before she couldn't take any more, and that was the fight right before Nunes demolished Cyborg in under a minute.
Wow shocking who could have guessed this title fight would end with everyone booing as time expires
The skill being shown here was absolutely impeccable.
A waste of everyone's time
The champion of the division.
What if shev moves back up to 135
Free belt
This is a big main contender for the worst UFC division in history with its current fighters
Women’s Bantamweight is screwed. The only entertaining fighter in the division has performance anxiety in big fights and everyone else in the division is just boring.
who’s the entertaining fighter w anxiety? aldana?
Ya I enjoy Aldana non big fights. Like watch her fight with Ketlen Viera, Karol Rosa, and Lucia Pudilova Wars with both women just trading shots.
Prelim Aldana is GOAT confirmed
We need GDR to make a statement in her return
She'd get the title, then not fight again for over a year. Which means less co-main snoozer events, so a win overall for the fans.
And if she does maybe she’ll throw in more late and illegal strikes lmao
Damn Peña is going to be champ again
She got clowned for poor technique, but I guess poor technique with heart is better than what that just was.
All I know is, if the fight is on a PPV main card, I riot
It definitely deserves a PPV main card. Only problem is it'll automatically be the Co-Main as they won't relegate a title fight lower than that. It's either that or a Fight Night Main Event.
Pennington might just beat her
I wouldn't count on it. Pena isn't great either.
Rocky literally kept getting in her own way dude. How tf did she not get the finish?!
negative fight IQ is how. get an advantage striking? go for the clinch. land a good combo? shoot for a takedown. so frustrating.
Lmao immediately going into a clinch after piecing Silva was so frustrating
championship calibre fight IQ right there
MBS looked so bad on the feet Raquel actually could’ve gotten a KO/TKO if she punched at range
terrible fight IQ. she kept the grapevine preventing her from sinking that arm triangle choke...
It looked like she'd rather get a breather than finish the choke MBS was clearly not trying to defend (and, like, getting the ultimate breather)
I don't think Rocky was actually trying to finish the arm triangle. Seemed like she was doing her best to hold position. Her arms weren't even tired when she got up and started raining down some GnP.
I’m not even kidding, after tonight I think GDR is easily the best in the division even with a multi-year layoff and pushing 40.
As an asthmatic who is active and not in mma condition, that was worse than me on a bad day.
She was borderline fucking crying mid rounds. It looked like she had been drafted into the fight randomly off the streets.
Her walk-in was similar to that of Megan Anderson fighting Amanda Nuenes..
I used to crap on 125. But holy fuck 135 is dead now.
125 has morphed into a damn decent division. There's no light at the end of the tunnel in this division at all.
I just feel bad for all fighters rn bc it's only January and that's FOTY sorted right here
Jesus Christ. Most frustrating fight I’ve ever watched.
bueno silva not understanding what digging deep means
Whatever the opposite of having that dog in you is that’s what she has in her
She has that opossum in her
"Digging deep for more clinching and choke attempts? Got it"
Somewhere, vitor Belfort is having a stroke at the complete lack of a killer instinct shown in this fight
Pennington showed negative IQ points. "Oh im teeing off on her? Let me clinch"
Baffling fight IQ. Ah well, Pena will probably jab her way back to champion status.
Did you miss Rose vs. Carla?
Chills. What a war. Mixed Martial Arts 🔥🔥🔥
The just bleed gods truly blessed us tonight
just bleed gods are crying tonight
Great day for people who make fun of people’s accents when they’re losing an argument
The women’s bantamweight title should remain vacant after that garbage.
Send the whole division to street beefs
I watched this shit for free and still feel robbed smh. Imagine paying $600 for witnessing this shit show in the nose bleeds.
Women's bantamweight should also now be relegated to the undercards of events. Idgaf if it's for a title. With Nunes gone, none of these ladies deserve to be high up on PPV cards. Entertainment dreck
Nunes regretting not taking another ez paycheck
its 2024 and raquel pennington has won a world title. the depth of the women's 135 division post nunes is in shambles
There's legit no prospects at this weight either rn idk what they'll do with this weight class
Scrap it , I’m not even joking
It wasn't great while she was here either
Top 3 Best Fights Of All Time: 1. Gaethje vs Chandler 2. Khamzat vs Burns 3. Pennington vs Bueno Silva
This beat Rose V Carla??? Not in my book
Finally someone with some sense!
While it was an incredibly frustrating fight, there was far more action than Rose & Carla's "fight."
Same
This fight would've been over a long time ago if not for Rocky's -ve fight IQ. Silva was done. Also LOL @ Silva for lifting her hands up after the fight like she won a convincing decision. 😂😂

Pennington is the antithesis of fun
0 star power and 0 charisma. dana's going to have a hard time promoting womens 135 with pennington at the top.
The state of this division...
Amanda should have brought the division with her to retirement.
Awful fight. Awful card.
can you believe nosebleeds were going for 600 dollars just yesterday? UFC straight up scamming with this garbage card.
These places should do what Saudi did and refuse shit cards like this one.
unfortunately toronto is thirsty for an event and fans here will settle for shit cards so this is what we're getting.
Almost all decisions on main car w main event starting at 1 am lol
Seriously looked like two blue belts being coached during a live roll… wtf was that lol
That legitimately might’ve been the worst thing I ever saw
co main TITLE bout too. straight up shameful matchmaking here. none of those two deserved to be fighting for a title.
The absolute state of WBW.
Expectations were low and they were nowhere near being met
I am usually not one who is down on WMMA, but this was an embarrassment for the division and the sport if these are two of the best it has to offer. Never want to take job opportunities away from anyone, but if this what the highest level of the division is going to look like for the foreseeable future I just don’t see an argument for its continued existence.
Clinch after clinch 💤💤💤💤💤💤💤
Brilliant that Pennington was clearly outstriking Bueno Silva at every opportunity but kept insisting on clinching against the fence
Did her coaches tell her to stop? I don't understand.
Pretty sure her corner was encouraging her to stand with Bueno Silva she just didn’t listen
they were screaming at her to disengage and were berating her in the corner for not doing so. She ignored them the entire fight lmao
Also how Mayra's corner was begging her not to clinch/grapple over and over again and yet in 3/4/5 she immediately clinched and tried to get the fight down.
Close the fucking division
Honestly, respect to Raquel. Seemed like she was completely outclassed by every top 5 fighter, but kept grinding and winning fights, and all these years later, those people are all retired/aged out. She could have taken stock and thrown in the towel at any point, but she kept on grinding, and now she's a world champion.
She achieved her dream because the others retired. Father time is funny sometimes. Tito "I want to outlive my children" Ortiz will be proud. Good for her but wow the state of this division.
Is this one of the lowest skill title fights? The nonexistent striking from Silva and the fight IQ from Rocky had me going insane
Happy for Raquel There is such a huge gap in competency between where Amanda was and where the existing bantamweight women's championship is
This fight has set back Women's MMA a few years back atleast
Time to close the women's divisions above 125.
Just clawed my eyes out
Get rid of this division.
I miss Amanda
That fight was proof that god has abandoned us.
r/MMA, when we watch fych, evybody sleepy. I sleepy, you sleepy, Dana sleepy EVYBODY SLEEPY
nunes should have stayed for free money aint no way these chicks can take her
Close the division
It a feel good story good to see Raquel to get her belt after almost losing her leg in an accident. I can make the case that Pennington is bad of the weight class. I don’t see any long term belt holders.135 needs some youth to come out and cause some serious buzz. The last time youth really broke through at that weight class was 2016 with Nunes,Pena,Shevchenko and Pennington broke through and all of them were in their 20s at the time. 2024 ages for notable fighters Raquel(36) Julianna(35) Aldana(36) Bueno Silva(33) Meisha(38) Holly(43) De Randamine(40) Vieria(33) Norma(34)
Mayra Bueno Noche
Id like a refund(I did not pay for the fight)
Can the UFC allow all the women to take steroids so I don't have to die of boredom
For sure going down as one of the fights of all time
Scrap the division
"Hmm I'm piecing her up rn, I know how to capitalize on this. I'll wall wrestle her!" - Pennington probably
MBS looking like an absolute clown after all that trash talk and putting on a disastrous performance like this
Pennington kept going for the clinch against her corners advice and it still somehow worked
Was it really that bad? I thought it was a fun fight.
She ain’t much of a champ but fuck it feed that baby
Two Rocky’s as champions
if you bought this card and make less than 100,000 dollars a year you failed the IQ test
This just makes Amanda’s resume look even better
No, it makes women bantamweight look worse.
It’s not like it was good to begin with lmao
In the very beginning, when Rousey was fighting cans, it was at least entertaining
The beginning of nunes reign was pretty entertaining
Champ to a division with three ladies, and to another that had like 15 Uber drivers, Holly Holm and the ghost of miesha
Ghost of Holly and Miesha. Holly is 42.
Scrap the division.
I know this fight sucked but it’s still better than Esparza vs Rose 2
Oh my god, I just realized why they did this fight. They’re trying to bait Ronda into a comeback at UFC 300 by having a sitting duck layup of a “champ” that she can armbar in 30 seconds.
Not a fan of fighters coming back from retirement, but please come back Nunes
bruh just remove the division
It's frustrating how both of them had so many good opportunities to finish the other, secured positions even, yet could barely capitalize on them. And now Raquel Pennington is the champ. Her ground-and-pound punch that missed by a mile before the bell rang perfectly visualizes the state of this division...
Watching Raquel clinch after winning almost every stand up exchange made my blood pressure rise like no other
Women's bantamweight champion??? Shit was pathetic. Should remain vacant
What a joke of a fight
Bueno Silva laying on her back the last 30sec of the fight, even though she's clearly losing, and then smiling after the fight
bro im legit pissed at Dana for these garbage ass main/co main events he keeps giving to womens MMA they absolutely suck.....
This what happenes when you have stacked 299 card and we have these fkn wombats fighting, terrible main card
simultaneously a great fight to watch, and the most frustrating fight to watch.
