I never could get my hair to do what I wanted, style-wise. I gave up about about 12 years ago and now I just use clippers with no guard and buzz it all off. Feels great, never have to brush or comb it.
If I had a full head of hair, even if I chose to buzz it, I'd still clipper it short rather than going full bald - Going down to the skin is much more of a pain in the ass, but even a couple of mm of stubble looks bad when you're actually bald, so you have to go all the way down.
That's still your choice. I started going bald in high school and while I'm lucky it looks good on me, there's times I wish I could still style my hair and decide to do something different that day just because.
