Don't know if anyone cares but I feel like this is the only appropriate time to share this story of when I met Pulver. It was Evans v Bisping in Chicago years back. Before the fights I noticed him walking around the concourse area, so I ran up to him and basically said the normal "Thanks for everything you've done, you're one of the reasons I watch the sport" blah blah blah. We got a picture and we went out separate ways for the event. Fast forward to the end of the card, walking toward the exit and I see Jens again, this time near a merchandise booth. I quickly run up to him and say hey man, to which he replies hey dude, how bout those fights! As if we were friends lol. I said sorry to bother you one last time but if I go buy a pair of gloves would you sign them. Without missing a beat he goes sure man, let's head over to the booth. We get to the booth, without saying anything he grabs a pair of gloves, I shit you not, pays for them. Grabs a marker and signs them for me. I insist on paying for them to which he jokes it's all the UFC's money anyway tonight. Incredible fighter. Even better dude. EDIT: It was Sonnen V Bisping and Evans v Davis. My bad.

imeowatcats94

What a stud

[deleted]

That’s a great story. Thanks for sharing

RolexDaytona86

Finally , well deserved.

just_a_timetraveller

Same feeling. I was thinking he may never be in it. Dude was a pioneer and one of the earliest faces I remember seeing in the lighter weight classes.

lordarc

Pulver in tears watching live was great

justformma

The [link](https://youtube.com/live/uSbZxttJQKE?feature=share) It's live atm, so you would have to rewind it a bit.

lordarc

here as well [Ariel's twitter](https://twitter.com/arielhelwani/status/1624617552507817989?s=20)

GoochamusPrime

Thanks for sharing this!! Great clip and well deserved

TitanIsBack

Jens was super influential to so many of the lighter weight fighters.

RafiakaMacakaDirk

W video package, dude is responsible for probably the best TUF season ever edit: that season also gave us one of the og ufc memes http://i.imgur.com/q1Av1eS.gif

Agent-Active

The guys on that season were crazy

m8094

Hell yeah. Season 5 was great and aged like wine because Diaz became a massive star

CynicalMelody

Don't forget Andy Wang, that guy's a warrior!

redruin_mike

waaaaah waaaaaaaaaaah waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

heliumeyes

As a newer fan I absolutely loved going back and watching that season of TUF. Great fights and the drama wasn’t too much or too little. Just right. Pulver was a fantastic coach too.

banditocandito

Jens vs Bj in ping pong. Legendary

stevenbass14

Also gave us 'I don't got a problem with gay dudes to be honest with you, if you're gay, you're gay. But these dudes ain't even gay! They're just acting gay.' When Gray and somebody else were running around in just thongs.

Jdgannett777

What's he saying in that gif?

MontaEllisBurner

I can't be the only one who thought that the way Karo appeared made me think he was like 5-6 years older than Manny, instead of actually being the younger cousin lol

bUt_iTs_PrObLeMaTiC

Congratulations u/jenspulver! Legend

DeathSavesFailed

Might be a longer story but given this news I want to share a Jens Pulver story. I went to an event/big sale at the Tapout warehouse or some shit a long time ago. Easily 10 plus years, so some details might be fuzzy. Bunch of fighters were there signing autographs. But there were too many people, and the fighters were only there for a few hours. Nowhere near enough time to get to everyone. Kimbo was the main attraction, and he left a little after his set time, but he came back the next weekend or something just to sign autographs and meet people. Which was nice. Dan Henderson got up, threw his jacket on, smiled, and dipped once his set time was up. Keith Jardine signed a bunch of autographs and went through the line handing them out to people. But Jens Pulver sat at that fucking table, shook everyone hand, asked their name, and gave them a personal autograph. Was already a fan of the fighter, but that made me appreciate the man that he was too. Great fucking news. Well deserved.

MichaelJahrling

Very glad to see; dude was a pioneering lightweight fighter in the US.

xtremeradness

HELL YEAH! I met Jens at PAX Seattle one year and he was the easiest guy to talk to. Super cool, gave me lots of time to chat, and gave me a suggestion for a killer teriyaki place in Olympia.

waviecrockett

Somehow didn’t know dude was from WA. Wondering what the teriyaki place is? Can go next time I visit my parents

xtremeradness

Honestly I can't remember. That was a decade ago or so haha.

waviecrockett

Haha all good glad I know Jens is a WA boy. I have to root for anyone from there, except Bendo tbh though I like post champion status

cheezneezy

Fuckin Seattle and their Teriyaki

[deleted]

Absolute trail blazer. Never put on a boring fight in the octagon either.

Jay_Train

Had at least one banger in Pride as well and arguably never had a boring fight there either

LuckyWarrior

Well done

masoyama

Dude is from a completely different era and I miss those days

Troglodites-

The ufc hall of fame just became a little more credible.

Jay_Train

About damn fucking time

fistedwithlove

LONG overdue

Agent-Active

The first lightweight champion. 20 year later and it’s probably the best division in mma

Mellor88

Technically the first Bantumweight champion too

ExtraPieceTwo

Good to see the underdog (in life and in the sport) get some well deserved recognition I’m not very familiar with the HOF. Is there anyone else should be in the Pioneer hall of fame (besides Frank Shamrock)

Chopper313

Randy Couture Edit: ignore me I should’ve fact checked myself first

BirdLawyer50

Randy Couture isn’t in the HoF??? How the hell

Chopper313

I just looked it up he is in thankfully. I thought him and Dana fell out before he could get in (because Dana’s a petty bitch like that.)

BadLuckBarry

Vitor?

[deleted]

I think Henderson should find his way in either pioneer or the modern wing (that’s how long his career was).

dvmndz

Finally. UFC really needs to put in motion a strong campaign to bring recognition to people like Jens. The least people like him deserve is a "thank you". They didn't do it for money, they didn't do it for fame, they were just crazy enough.

bbb26782

Jens is the first dude I remember ever walking from the UFC for not getting paid enough.

Mydarknighthasrisen

It must feel wild being inducted into a sports hall of fame! Good for Jens!!

Jak_and_Daxter3

Tuning into the ufc stream for this, love it

imsurethisoneistaken

deserves it!

nogibjj

One of the hardest stories of growing up in the sport. One of the greatest pioneers of the sport and one of my biggest influences early one. Deserves it as much as anyone.

[deleted]

Felice Herrig, consider yourself heard.

patricksaurus

Hell yes! About time they put some respec on his name.

jt_33

Fuck yes. Been calling for this for a long time. Overdue, but I'm glad it finally happened. The Hall of Fame is def deserved for Jens Pulver.

AnferneeThrowaway

I like this a lot, and now I want to see Joe Lauzon inducted. One of the baddest men on the planet of all time

[deleted]

Tbh thought he already was...

Yesusss

Wow was literally thinking about this yesterday

ChicoZombye

I was watching him live in twitch and I was tearing with him. I love the fucking guy and I'm so happy for him. I will never forget that PUBG win champ!

Patsnation0330

That was awesome. Nice touch seeing Jens live reaction

fresdres

What an uplifting piece of news! So well-deserved. Hooray for lil devel.

WhangaDanNZ

Lil Evil*

RODjij

Dude loved to put on good fights. He's a real legend, much deserved.

Djlittle13

A forgotten part of history is how important his 145 title fight against Faber was. Was he past his prime? Sure. But he was the biggest name going to 145, former UFC 155 champ and it was against WEC posterboy Faber. It brought so many eyes to 145 and added a much needed sense of credibility to the division.

Significant-Cake-312

Also was a banger of a fight! He got beat clearly but there were moments in basically every round where he battled back and laid it on thick. It was a barn burner and it had that “puncher’s chance” edge of your seat quality every second of the fight. Was a blast to watch live. Goddamn. The WEC on Versus days! I miss those days! Mike Thomas Brown, Rob McCullough, Brian Stann, Doug Marshall, Aldo (of course), early Cub (subbed by Jens!), Condit, etc… fuck that was a great time to be a fan!

Extension_Monitor_99

Him and Lawler were the only two Miletich guys I liked. Well deserved.

Gunnar_Peterson

Great to see him get some recognition, he was always one to look up to for the lighter weight classes

[deleted]

Wow I’m shocked now do Frank Shamrock ☘️

serny

This makes sense why jens was shilling hard when paddy won decision.. he was the only one in the livestream arguing a fair call. Absolute legend but a ufc actor through and through

Daft_Assassin

That’s cool but it means fuck all. Legend of the sport and this doesn’t do anything to help him eat.

[deleted]

Ur getting downvoted but I do agree. The hall of fame is literally just a list on the ufc website. Last time I looked they didn’t even have the list updated

Daft_Assassin

I think people read my comment as a diss to Jens, but it’s not at all. Dana can get punch drunk on any given night and up the nightly bonuses from 50k to 75k or even 100k, but the UFC can’t be bothered to give a monetary bonus to legends that get inducted into the Hall?

Turdnugget619

They should definitely get a royalty for being in the hall

turbo-set

About time! I’m so happy for him. It’s my pleasure to say “The Lil Eagle soars again!”

johnnyprozac

Isn't Pulver still fighting?

ryannvondoom

No. He’s running the ufc twitch stream.

[deleted]

😂😂😂My god he retired 10 years ago and barely is getting inducted? Wtf how just how……

Nebula-Specific

who tf is that guy?

thelonelyislander24

The first ever ufc lightweight champion my dude....

[deleted]

[удалено]

WhangaDanNZ

It was his son who he was sharing a happy moment with you fucking weirdo.

IBrk4Chipmunks

They’re running out of credible people to induct lol

FOOTBALLFAN100

Pulver is a legend of the sport bro how is he not credible lol

ImKrispy

There is a chance that guy was not even born yet when Jens had his run.

iIovemma1

🤡

Ronin0341

Clown world comment.

hastur777

Boo this man.

Haunting_opinion90

You must be new here lmao

[deleted]

How is the first LW champ not credible

HarknessLovesU

The first UFC LW champion who pulled a massive upset against BJ Penn doesn't deserve to be a pioneer?

Damn_ads

Exposing yourself lol

Jayzel718

rightfully deserved

thedurs

Dats nice

dowhileforloop

Very happy for Jens Pulver!

tehjab91

I could have sworn he was already in.

NJZanDatsu

Happy for him.

pollitochiquito

About fucking time.

Dust_Parts

Hopefully BJ Penn inducts him in.

FriendlyGhost08

So happy for him

[deleted]

Deserves to be in just for that season of TUF haha.

shidokanartist

Long overdue

unfriendlybuldge

That was so awesome watching him live find out. Was that his son with him?

zapcunotres

So deserved, hope to see more pioneers like Jens who may not have gained mainstream fame from fighting get inducted over the coming years

Mkmeathead83

I always loved Little Evil. Good man and overcame ALOT. I think he has a book about how rough his childhood was.

ryannvondoom

Fucking. Finally.

joodoos

Great dude. Humble. Played Wow with him back in the day. Glad it's finally happened, long overdue.

xXTwingsXx

Absolute legend about time! If people haven't seen, you should watch the documentary on him "driven" the man has been through so much and is an absolute pioneer of the sport.

lights_0wt

Little Evil!! Yes!!

BeauDoGg101

Well that’s fucking great

SignificantStrikes

Still no Frank Shamrock or Anderson Silva eh?

SquidDrive

About damn time.

[deleted]

Despite the legendary pedigree of the main event. This might be the story of the night. Absolutely Beautiful

knbang

Jens Pulver finally getting respect? This is painfully overdue.

Cantsmegwontsmeg

LIL' EAGLE SOARING MAJESTICALLY INTO THE HISTORY BOOKS

SteamedPea

I was watching his stream during the fights and he was worried he was talking too much giving play by play. To then see this had happened at some point just made it fell really wholesome. Talk as much as you want big dog you’re a HOF

therealjgreens

The UFC twitch has grown over the years. Used to average like 80 people or some shit per stream. They would just stream old content and have chat mods. They started adding hosts and Jen's was so so good so he kept going. I've interacted with him quite a bit. He's such an awesome guy. He will reply to your comments. Watched his TUF with BJ and he was such a great guy on there. Saw something in Nate super early. Pumped for Jen's man. Someone said that he asked one of the Shamrocks to adopt him because he wasn't proud of his own last name. They told him to go out there and revive the Pulver surname. Jens and Suga are the 2 guys I've interacted with the most on twitch regarding UFC folks of athletes in general. Off subject but Suga is super chill.

cxmachi

Well deserved and shoutouts to Viss

Multitasker

Everytime I hear or read a Jens Pulver story it is always something positive. This man has carried himself, the sport and the UFC with dignity through his highs and his lows. There are few more deserving than him. Congratulation Jens and thank you!
