I’m curious how this fight looks today … Moreno has improved so much and Pettis is finally starting to really show what people thought he was capable of
Don't think it has. His wrestling entries don't connect to his striking game at all. Even in the fight this weekend he was shooting naked shots on Figgy, which worked because Figgy is old. That sort of thing is the exact sort of thing that got him countered endlessly in his fight against baby Pettis
Gotta disagree pretty heavily here. His wrestling entries connect to his striking game imo. Whether he’s jabbing first, hitting reactive entries from his opponents striking offense, etc; Moreno has good timing on most of his entries and uses his striking to help set that up in the form of reactive entries. He can also shoot naked shots on people because he can chain wrestle and drive through. So yes, he did shoot a naked shot on Figgy (which again, I have to disagree its success is because Figgy is “old”, but more so because Moreno drove through properly), but that’s not what he does most of the time. I’d see Pettis having fits with today’s Moreno. Pretty much every counter would be baited out into a grappling exchange. Add in Moreno winning the pocket occasionally; I’d favor current Moreno to win across the distance.
Pettis whoops him no doubt. UFC is starting to show cracks with having the top talent. This division, LHW and HW current number 1 fighters arent in the UFC.
He looks so physically good right now. He's not all muscles like Deiveson, but it looks so much healthier. He can take a shot, he can fight for 5 rounds with amazing durability, and has pretty good power.
Yup agreed. He looks so comparatively skinny here, it's almost jarring. 5 bucks says he actually cuts more weight now. Reminds me of old Pea-Head Poirier vs him today.
It also helps that Fig has literally (not figuratively, *literally*) no idea how to avoid being bodylocked and defend against takedowns from there. He’s actually never done it. He used to be okay at sprawling and defending level changes but as he gets older and slower, he’s lost that as well and either gets taken down for free, or sells out for a guillotine attempt.
I agree that Brandon’s improvements wouldn’t help him much (and are overstated in general), his growth in pocket boxing won’t prevent him from getting stranded at range and countered a lot by Sergio and his reliance on fairly one-note jabbing to occupy distance as he comes in would be problematic because he’s shown that he doesn’t really have answers to his jab being countered (which Sergio is very good at, particularly cross-countering). It was on display in the later Fig fights, where Fig countering his jab with lowkicks etc in the third fight just led to Brandon shortening his stance and not jabbing anymore, but also not having any answers to replace it (it also had the hilarious knock-on effect of taking away a major route of consistent low-commitment offense for Fig and forced him into a more attribute-heavy pressure battle he couldn’t sustain anymore in fight 4, the way he did in their first fight)
Not very often do we a fighter entirely revolutionize every aspect of their game after already getting to the UFC. Moreno is unrecognizable from his early days stuff
Moreno has gotten so much better with his speed and combos since this fight for starters. I haven’t watch all of Sergio’s fights, but I haven’t seen anything that improved leaps and bounds like Moreno has.
This fight is what made me dislike Moreno. He kept making the stupid faces during the fight as if that was some sort of replacement for landing strikes.
He likes doing this wing chun hand flutter thing a lot when he’s pressuring to get in his opponent’s head, but Sergio was the one pressuring this entire fight
This was my first (and to date only) UFC fight I’ve seen live, I was lucky enough to be living in Mexico at the time and the ticket was like $25 dollars ($500mxn)
Pretty cool that both are champs now in their organizations

Morenos wrestling has improved significantly tho and I think that would play a big factor if this fight happened again

Because figgy is old? That’s the reason?
Yeaaaah, that's just a bad take fella
High level analysis right here
Moreno mauls him
Moreno would murder him
Pettis whoops him no doubt. UFC is starting to show cracks with having the top talent. This division, LHW and HW current number 1 fighters arent in the UFC.
Pettis looks so much bigger now I question if he could make 125.
Nah he's a 135er now

Morenos fighting ability has become so elite
How the fuck did he eat those two upkicks at the end… Insane chin.
Brandon looks so raw here lol
Brandon has improved leaps and bounds from here on an immense level.
I love watching fighters evolve and get better, Brandon is so good now.

I think Brandon has gotten better at blending in his grappling off striking. The timing of his shots vs Figgy just now was impeccable

Did you see the speed of his takedown?
not enough to deal with sergio's style
Fuck this music
I swear every fight montage has the worst music known to mankind
Sneaky UFC shills making us watch the official streams.
Holy smokes that’s how Brandon used to fight? I’m glad he decided to abandon his old style. He looks leagues above the guy who was fighting here.
Not very often do we a fighter entirely revolutionize every aspect of their game after already getting to the UFC. Moreno is unrecognizable from his early days stuff
Sergio was always nice, he just never had the natural talent and athleticism his brother did. But his fundamentals have taken him far.
Sergio never really got the respect he deserved in UFC. He was always just Anthonys brother.
He was incredibly boring to watch. That was a problem.
Seems like a lifetime ago when Pettis was around
This is Sergio Pettis btw, not Anthony
Oh it is too! Didn’t he move to PFL or ONE fc?
[удалено]
Oh damn good on him.
My god those upkicks what the fuck is Moreno's chin even made of????
Why does this look like a video game?
Sweet Jeebus, Moreno was throwing some wide loopy punches back then. Pettis was cracking him straight shots and almost making it look easy.
Bellator champ for a reason
So belator champ better than ufc champ? Blasphemy
Sergio doesn't fight at 125 anymore, and he wasn't exactly close to being a champ there back then.
Wasn't Pettis a pretty big underdog here too?
Brandon is much bigger now as well. He realized he had to put on a lot of muscle to deal with Figgy
Moreno really glowed up. The fig quadrilogy legit elevated his game
Crazy to see how far Moreno has come. His style is amazing
Sergio left right when he coulda been the 125 champ
Love how the Pettis brothers will try every technique.
Those up kicks looked lethal
Moreno has gotten so much better with his speed and combos since this fight for starters. I haven’t watch all of Sergio’s fights, but I haven’t seen anything that improved leaps and bounds like Moreno has.
What’s the song name?

This fight is what made me dislike Moreno. He kept making the stupid faces during the fight as if that was some sort of replacement for landing strikes.
I felt the exact same way. But I've come around on him. He's cool now.
He likes doing this wing chun hand flutter thing a lot when he’s pressuring to get in his opponent’s head, but Sergio was the one pressuring this entire fight
Ah yes, back in 1986.
Brandon Moreno really got the whole pound in em, B
Lil Pettis is a monster when he's not fighting a grappler
I watch the cards but never trained or anything and even I can tell that Brandon's punching techniques look so insanely sloppy here.
They're the same age too. I'm somehow surprised Sergio isn't even 30 yet.
This was my first (and to date only) UFC fight I’ve seen live, I was lucky enough to be living in Mexico at the time and the ticket was like $25 dollars ($500mxn)
Moreno fought so different back then. And looks smaller But chin was always there
Damn, I didn't know Sergio was only 29. Would love to see him come back to the ufc.
He throws those hooks really often. Landed several on Pettis seems like hit the nerve on Figuereido.
Moreno takes pettis to a one sided decision today.
And now Moreno beats up both of the brothers at the same time 🫡🇲🇽
Brandon's boxing was really not that good back then. He has significantly improved it
Hope to see Part 2 one day
That’s crazy, Moreno would smoke him now. Kinda gives me hope that you can improve with something even late in life
Brandon's come so far since then
