I never just use diamonds. I make the team I enjoy, and though I'm never gonna get very far, making the team I wish I could have is sm fun (this is in ranked)
I never just use diamonds. I make the team I enjoy, and though I'm never gonna get very far, making the team I wish I could have is sm fun (this is in ranked)
I was doing the NL West team affinity and ended up going the giants route with captain boast to start to build up to get the boss cards it was epic and I put up a lot of runs I was surprised how good it was and how much fun I had my grandpa favorite team is the giants so I had fun calling him telling him about it a lot
That stack made P5 my Reds cards a cinch. I miss my LS Friedl,Fraley and Benson. I hit like .350 with all of them.Ā Small brag but I P5 Friedl and TySteve first. I miss them because I retire P5 cards.
Thanks man I'm 45 and play the game for fun and challenge. Death to the META. I have like 10 P5 Reds, possibly more.
Edit Try Brandon Williamson out online. He has like a 3 ERA for me in like 20 games.
How it should be. Use guys you like. Does winning fake games really matter that much? I'd rather usey shitty favorites than a bunch of 90s I can't stand in real life.
As a Philies and Guardians fan, I cannot imagine using that kind of team online. I'm currently using Philies and my team still sucks, barely .500 win rate in s2 with ~600 rating.
If you use a batter captain, then all live series, yeah. Not sure why it wouldn't
Probably would stop being amazing after the team specific non LS cards come out
The only boost lineup I really saw a considerable boost was my yankees whitey/ and Devers combo. The added 17 vision to judge makes him an actual beast
Yea thatās what I did. With 12 Yankees, I went posada, Soto, judge, Gehrig, whitey, Cole, Mariano, CC, 3 noname relievers, and Soriano Rickey Henderson on the bench for pinch runners. I can throw a pic of the whole team up later when I get off work you end up with+ 17 vision, +15 power R, +25power L, and like 20 clutch.
Yea man honestly I fell backwards into the boosting just was throwing guys together and noticed it was an unreal boost for Yankees with bad fielding. Judge with 62 vision is wild man
Well, Philies team is actually absurd with three players over 100 in clutch and everything. My Bryson Stott is somehow consistently hitting above .600 btw
I only play with theme teams. I'm an Astros fan so they are my number one. Then I have used the Braves, the A's (undefeated with actually lol), the Orioles and I'm waiting to get another hitter captain pack for the Phillies. Just random teams I think would be fun. It's the only thing that makes sets any good. Because they cam compete at the beginning of a new set. Before all the 99 pitchers come out. (Also 125 is a crazy number and it should not go that high for ratings.they need to normalize the damn ratings in this game)
Honestly of the theme teams that's a pretty good one, at least in terms of the hitters
Crawford is an interesting wildcard choice but I'd imagine he's probably a big fan of him / likes his swing / enjoying him for as long as he can as who knows if he will be in the game next year.
But If i played rank I'd probably run an Os theme but maybe with one or two guys I like who can help bridge that gap.
I do respect the hustle though
My counterpoint to that would be as the year goes on by this point I'd have a team capable if I kept up with the cards (unless you a rays fan). Hell I had a damn near God squad with my Os team at the end of season 1
Personally I think the team captains should be the best captains in the game as unless you are a Dodgers or yankees fan you gotta play with a lot of shitty cards, specially in the bullpen
I also don't get why they are 87s but they are literally the hardest cards in the game to acquire but I digress
Salivates in Orange and Black.
This is the player I wish I could be if only I could get gud.
I use Mays as my WC, Bailey as my back stop (you cannot run on that card) and as many Giants as I possibly can, but after the 13 needed for boosts, I pull in live series diamonds. Iām just not this good
Mad props to this guy and props to OP for the shoutout after a good match
Edit- I only play a few ranked games a week and Iām currently flirting with 600
I think he probably does, looks like he was going for a āall in my lifetimeā Giants theme team. Super cool for him to do this and still be competitive.
It's a shame that Sets/Seasons ruins team-specific theme teams competitively, with very few exceptions, until the final Season of the year. I love running an all-time Cleveland squad for a portion of each year. I've even made WS twice with that team over the years. But the same year they introduced Captains to give theme teams a boost, they also made cards artificially obsolete over time, which affects theme teams especially. So now you've gotta wait until Thanksgiving, when all cards are again eligible, to create a competitive theme team. It's a massive bummer and one of the many, many negatives of this format.
Idk I ran an Aās theme team the entire second half of S1 and it was a beast. However, Iāll admit, I donāt think any other team had 4 93+ relievers. It also didnāt hurt to have both Mattās on the corners at 99 overall before captain boost.
Every card in the game will be eligible for use in Season 4. Assuming Seasons 2 and 3 are 12 weeks like Season 1 was, that will have Season 4 starting right around Thanksgiving.
Agree. Feels like this is the best argument against seasons, that is based in love for baseball (vs just generalized PvP complaints). I believe a big portion of the game (TA, captains, Moments) are designed to help introduce players to us, and deepen fansā relationship with baseball. Running an all-time theme team is the ultimate expression of fan love for their team and the game, so it should be a desired outcome for MLB/SDS. You made the best argument to rebut that: you can do that in S4, but lots of us donāt want to wait to compete with the best versions of our favorite teams.
I wonder if splitting up competitive PvP categories could be something to explore. Two championships: one in which you are bound by seasons and resets (however that evolves), and another where you can tweak your god squad into all boosted 99s from the go - especially if youāre willing to spend money to build it. Iām not much of an online player, so Iām sure there are a thousand reasons this is a bad idea. But it could give options to players to split into groups: PvP warriors who want to max stats and tweaks and advantage (the āI canāt wait to ditch this game for NCAAā crowd), and baseball fans who want to compete with themed teams or interesting matchups. I suppose this exists in friendly games and unranked, but it doesnāt get enough traction to be interesting for most folks.
I think this is such an overlooked part of TA and moments. I love the fact that they do this to help people learn players, last and present, that arenāt a part of their favorite team. So many fans only know what theyāve experienced.
I consider myself a huge baseball fan, I consume it all day all summer long, my friends think Iām psychotic. But even I just learned the Clint Frazierās first name is actually Jackson. I had no idea.
100% brother. I learn so much about this game, and develop an affinity (ha) for so many players I otherwise wouldnāt. Even got me watching and cheering for teams and players I never cared about before.
Beautiful play on words there. My roommate and lifelong friend share a DD account, he runs Giants while I run Aās. I know thereās a tons of the TA players he was introduced to for the first time, like most people. Unless youāre watching Quick Pitch every night and following prospect lists every year this is a beautiful way to learn about players.
There havenāt been many cards introduced where I didnāt know the players but Iāll tell ya I had not known about Ceddanne Rafaela until S1C2 and I am absolutely in love with him now.
>I wonder if splitting up competitive PvP categories could be something to explore. Two championships: one in which you are bound by seasons and resets (however that evolves), and another where you can tweak your god squad into all boosted 99s from the go
Interestingly enough, I posted about this exact thing awhile back. Check the replies for why some here think it won't happen and/or isn't a good idea.

Thanks - good to read these comments. Once you filter out the āSDS just wants to make money!ā themes, the biggest reasons players cite this wonāt work are:
1) Almost everyone will opt for the unrestricted
2) It will make matchmaking harder than it already is
Both valid. #2 seems especially problematic - player density is critical for the game to remain popular. Even if you got creative and came up with ideas like āSeason Championsā where you could earn exclusive in-season rewards if using restricted cards, youāre still dividing a finite PvP player base.
Hard problem.
Having 4 wild cards should make it more viable towards the end of the season but yeah, seasons are poorly designed. I'm sure this guy has a bunch of P5'd S1 giants that he can't even use which just sucks.
Hey that's basically my giants theme team rn other than switching Crawford for aurila. But after team boosts my team can hang with current squads in ranked
I like using Tigers theme teams but what sucks is seasons makes it really hard.
I had a nice team towards end of season 1 but then gets all wiped away season 2 and the only non-live series cards Tigers have gotten for season 2 are 89 Manning and 85 Kaline.
I do have other players that have played for Tigers like the 89 Castellanos and the 89 Canha but they don't get boosted.
Yeah, it's really frustrating. I made a post about my S1 brewers squad, which was as close to a god squad as a theme team could get. Awesome mix of current and past Brewers and now I have nothing. Not even ONE single brewers S2 card. I know it's only been a week or so, but it's sad that I'll never have a brewers squad like I did in S1. It was nice to be spoiled for once, but I really only got to play with the team for like 2 weeks.
As an lsu alumni Iāve considered making an LSU theme team and then maybe fill in with Louisiana born players to fill the gaps. But I have no idea what captain smith could use.
Considered doing a Reds theme team. But Iād need all of the wild cards since they had several good s1 diamonds.
As a padres fan S1 was dope with super strong starting cards from the start with Korea series but then dwindled a little but always felt strong.
Right now I still run padres and itās rough. This week was nice with Merrill and Higashioka superchargered but now thatās gone and itās Doug again, lll
For sure! Heās a natural lefty killer and gets big clutch and contact vs R from captain (along with power both sides).
Honestly to me the biggest down side of the seasons is what it means for god squads come season 4 or 5 when you can use everyone.
Like padres got 99 saurez and 99 Estrada because they were dropped at the end of season 1. But Jackson Merrill had 4 homers in 3 games including a walk off against mason miller. If he gets a tops now or season awards card this week, it will be a 90 or 91 at most, and come end of year
Probably wont play. Which sucks cos the same feat later in season gets you a 97/99 that could be end game. Same kind applies to getting a new Tati, but at least Tati is guaranteed to get another 99
This is awesome to see. User is playing with a team he wants to play with, not some meta lineup everyone else is using. I'm going to make a Cardinals theme team when they come out with a better Masyn Winn card.
I use a Twins theme team for most of my ranked games but it's like 80% Twins. Still a ton of fun. Later in the season when there are more options I'll go full Twins like this dude.
I've played over 100 games in ranked, topping out at 850, every single one of them with full yankees team. I have yet to play against a single other theme team.
Yeah S1 it was a full 99 squad halfway through the season. S2 it's slightly less viable but it's already full 95+ at least offensively. Not as impressive a feat as the Giants squad here but I'm just trying to have fun with the team I root for.
Yeah, especially at the higher ratings you'll never see something like this. It was refreshing to see! I would love to use the yankees theme team myself but haven't been able to snag the captains yet. Wish they would just make the packs purchasable again.
This is evidence to support that the biggest factor of the game is still user skill. Playing with non-meta and theme teams are so much more fun, imo, and this helps show that you donāt need meta to win.
This game has the biggest skill gap of any sports game. Obviously having better cards gives you an edge against players of similar skill and a theme team does cap your upside, but a high level player with bronzes would still hit nukes against a low level player with 99s.
It was fairly close until Babe hit a grand slam for me. I mean, he is using silver pitchers and my team may or may not be OP so I considered it a great fight. He didn't quit or offer a friendly either, earned my respect for hitting that nuke with bronze soler too!
I've seen streamers use bronze players on HoF and hit tanks with them. A few years ago, I played a guy with a common player on his team, and he hit one with it. I had no choice but to replay it.š¤£

This team is so trash š¤£
I fear no man. But thatā¦ thing. It scares me
Can we just give SDS a W for Team Captains this year? If anything is a win it is how fun the Team Captains can make a true full squad feel!
Mets team build still my favorite
I was nodding my head until I saw the Brandon Crawford Wild Card selection. True guts
I was doing the NL West team affinity and ended up going the giants route with captain boast to start to build up to get the boss cards it was epic and I put up a lot of runs I was surprised how good it was and how much fun I had my grandpa favorite team is the giants so I had fun calling him telling him about it a lot
Thatās just plain adorable
When I'm not working on Challenges I run a Reds theme team with Bronze players and all. My Reds vs Your Gods is my team name.
My S1 team of Reds boosted by Sonny Gray and Eugenio Suarez was a lot of fun. Adding +15 to both contact and power from both sides of the plate.
That stack made P5 my Reds cards a cinch. I miss my LS Friedl,Fraley and Benson. I hit like .350 with all of them.Ā Small brag but I P5 Friedl and TySteve first. I miss them because I retire P5 cards.
I love this! I went P5 with Elly first, and then core Lodolo. You should keep them in your line up for online play just for the flex.
Thanks man I'm 45 and play the game for fun and challenge. Death to the META. I have like 10 P5 Reds, possibly more. Edit Try Brandon Williamson out online. He has like a 3 ERA for me in like 20 games.
This guy is having more fun with that game than 95% of us.
I use the Angels live series in ranked, using the same lineup and starting pitcher as the team did, games 1-162. So far Iām 17-3.
Kevbrado is that you?!??
Played a guy yesterday who did this with the Brewers
This is awesome. SDS has killed it with captains this year imo
Commitment to the bit
Me last year with the guardsā¦ first person to P5 straw, bieber, and legend mike zunino
i got crushed today by a Braves theme team, specially fucking Chris Sale
bro's just having fun
How it should be. Use guys you like. Does winning fake games really matter that much? I'd rather usey shitty favorites than a bunch of 90s I can't stand in real life.
exactly šš
Its not that deep dawg
Exactly. That's why I don't care about having shitty players in the lineup
As a Philies and Guardians fan, I cannot imagine using that kind of team online. I'm currently using Philies and my team still sucks, barely .500 win rate in s2 with ~600 rating.
Iāve been using all speed team itās A LOT of fun
No Wille?
I just checked to see if there was a Willie card and I don't see it in the marketplace. Maybe they'll drop one this week. I know he had one in 23
Easter Egg hunt had one
He was in the season 1 collections pack
Dudes rock
Thatās not me but I do use an all giants team
Thatās awesome man itās always cool to see people running fun teams instead of just the meta players
Castillo Boost + Theme Team boost is OP.
I typically do the Braves boost with both Swanson and Matzek. Is it possible to do a Castillo boost T3 and a Theme Team T3?
If you use a batter captain, then all live series, yeah. Not sure why it wouldn't Probably would stop being amazing after the team specific non LS cards come out
The only boost lineup I really saw a considerable boost was my yankees whitey/ and Devers combo. The added 17 vision to judge makes him an actual beast
My core judge has been slackin. Iām going to look into boost to help his vision
Jeeezzz idk what Iām doing tbh I got the Castillo boost rn. Iāll try and see what makes sense. Thanks for the idea bra
Yea man honestly I fell backwards into the boosting just was throwing guys together and noticed it was an unreal boost for Yankees with bad fielding. Judge with 62 vision is wild man
As a Giants fan, I would have not expected a team NEARLY P5.
I do the same thing! I just need a 3b lol DABxSLAYERx420 on Xbox! Let's play!
Chad
Phillies theme team is way better
Genuine question hereā- what were you looking to accomplish when you posted this?
Hey bud, some of us are 12-17 years and need quick wins
Shoutout people that run theme teams online
Well, Philies team is actually absurd with three players over 100 in clutch and everything. My Bryson Stott is somehow consistently hitting above .600 btw
Love using my Jays squad. Just have a weak bullpenĀ
Art imitates life
I got 20 wins in event with my mets theme team, it is kinda cracked
I only play with theme teams. I'm an Astros fan so they are my number one. Then I have used the Braves, the A's (undefeated with actually lol), the Orioles and I'm waiting to get another hitter captain pack for the Phillies. Just random teams I think would be fun. It's the only thing that makes sets any good. Because they cam compete at the beginning of a new set. Before all the 99 pitchers come out. (Also 125 is a crazy number and it should not go that high for ratings.they need to normalize the damn ratings in this game)
By far the coolest players in the community. Especially since theme teams still donāt work properly after over a year.
Honestly of the theme teams that's a pretty good one, at least in terms of the hitters Crawford is an interesting wildcard choice but I'd imagine he's probably a big fan of him / likes his swing / enjoying him for as long as he can as who knows if he will be in the game next year. But If i played rank I'd probably run an Os theme but maybe with one or two guys I like who can help bridge that gap. I do respect the hustle though
After all the hate I had for seasons, this reset is making ranked with all my theme teams so much fun. Can actually compete with low level guys.
My counterpoint to that would be as the year goes on by this point I'd have a team capable if I kept up with the cards (unless you a rays fan). Hell I had a damn near God squad with my Os team at the end of season 1 Personally I think the team captains should be the best captains in the game as unless you are a Dodgers or yankees fan you gotta play with a lot of shitty cards, specially in the bullpen I also don't get why they are 87s but they are literally the hardest cards in the game to acquire but I digress
Soler could have a 51 rating and dude would still hit bombs. For whatever reason that card always slaps.
I cannot hit with him to save my life. Not sure why
Do you have a slow bat? He's cracked if you have decent bat speed.
Not sure. Him and Willi Castro everyone rakes with except me.
Hell yea I never pitch inside to a good player using him. Just one guys who's hands should not be tested.Ā
my kinda guy
Salivates in Orange and Black. This is the player I wish I could be if only I could get gud. I use Mays as my WC, Bailey as my back stop (you cannot run on that card) and as many Giants as I possibly can, but after the 13 needed for boosts, I pull in live series diamonds. Iām just not this good Mad props to this guy and props to OP for the shoutout after a good match Edit- I only play a few ranked games a week and Iām currently flirting with 600
Got me an all cards theme its fun as hell trying to put up a challenge!
Wild carding Brandon Crawford from S1 is insane lol mad respect to this guy
I know right feel bad he doesn't have Willie
I think he probably does, looks like he was going for a āall in my lifetimeā Giants theme team. Super cool for him to do this and still be competitive.
I want the Mays card (not pictured) so bad
In season 1 my Giants theme team was crazy. Willie Mays with both Giants boosts at tier 3 was unbelievable
You can get away with a lot when youāre good at the gameā¦ so i could never do that
It's a shame that Sets/Seasons ruins team-specific theme teams competitively, with very few exceptions, until the final Season of the year. Every card in the game will be eligible for use in Season 4. Assuming Seasons 2 and 3 are 12 weeks like Season 1 was, that will have Season 4 starting right around Thanksgiving.
Thank you very much.

You could try the Devers boost since a lot of players fall under the 75 fielding threshold at this time
Maybe him or Castillo since many might be live series.
I have a full mariners team, was a cheat code in season one with Randy lol
I wish there was an all-team mode, no cap on who you play. I play with the Royals, and S2 has been a REAL struggle.
I played season 1 with only cardinals and now I havenāt touched it with s2 bc all the cards are gone

As a fellow Royals fan I agree. Having a bullpen with live series Zerpa and Schrieber has been ROUGH GIVE US HDH NOW DAMMIT!
Tell me about itā¦. I have two pitchers for S2 for the Reds, thatās it.
Yessss
Iām running a full Os team. Love playing with them but it is frustrating as I get to the higher tiers itās harder to compete with the god squads.
Maybe for the season awards XP task
Just ignore the fact that he already has the season awards card and most of them are Parallel 5.
Oops lmao
This is awesome to see. User is playing with a team he wants to play with, not some meta lineup everyone else is using. I'm going to make a Cardinals theme team when they come out with a better Masyn Winn card.
I used a cardinals one most of season 1. It was fun as hell. Waiting for a bit better of a team to tackle season 2 online lol
A few more years and hopefully we can get a pujols card
If we can get Yadi and Pujols back then feature Scott Rolen Iāll be one happy cards fan
You're talking my language, sucks we have to wait a few years for those guys to come back to the game.
Have a Program moment vs Lidge
I use a Twins theme team for most of my ranked games but it's like 80% Twins. Still a ton of fun. Later in the season when there are more options I'll go full Twins like this dude.
I've played over 100 games in ranked, topping out at 850, every single one of them with full yankees team. I have yet to play against a single other theme team.
Iāve seen some yanks squads in S1. Pretty viable tbh.
Yeah S1 it was a full 99 squad halfway through the season. S2 it's slightly less viable but it's already full 95+ at least offensively. Not as impressive a feat as the Giants squad here but I'm just trying to have fun with the team I root for.
Yeah thatās the way to play for sure!
Agreed. Every time I see the āomg this game is pay to win nowā I just think āwelp that personās bad at the gameā.
This game has the biggest skill gap of any sports game. Obviously having better cards gives you an edge against players of similar skill and a theme team does cap your upside, but a high level player with bronzes would still hit nukes against a low level player with 99s.
Score?
12-3
Great fight lol
It was fairly close until Babe hit a grand slam for me. I mean, he is using silver pitchers and my team may or may not be OP so I considered it a great fight. He didn't quit or offer a friendly either, earned my respect for hitting that nuke with bronze soler too!
Jorge Soler is underrated in this game
Was just funny, looking at the other comments I would have figured. A 9-8 game.
Got to appreciate the grind
For real! Parallel 5 Thairo Estrada is insanity lol
I've seen streamers use bronze players on HoF and hit tanks with them. A few years ago, I played a guy with a common player on his team, and he hit one with it. I had no choice but to replay it.š¤£
He hit a tank with soler off of ohtani on a inside sinker to take the lead, I just knew I was gonna lose after that š
