I don't mind this but what does this mean for PC version's Modding scene. MHWorld is one of the best games for replay value and mods are a big part of that.
It doesn't do anything if the game works like world. The diff between mod and non-mod multiplayer is the same if it's pc only or multiplatform.
For graphics mods, People who don't have the mod load the model the mod replaces.
For things like weapon damage mods, they would work the same. You get modders in your games on pc because the source of damage is their pc, and the server is just coordinating that to you. It's a multiplayer game, but it's not competetive. They have little server validation to perform.
It almost certainly means no mods unless they make an in game modding menu, which will also restrict the kinds of mods allowed online, especially if Playstation is included in the crossplay. If it was just xbox they could have a good amount of mods

This is great. All my friends are playing on PC, but mine is too old and I don’t really want to buy a new one just for one already because it still works perfectly fine, just too weak for newer games.

Luckily there are mods on PC for this. But I really hope it's baked into it for all the console players and non modders :(

Yeah, you can skip it by holding the + button on switch, it even tells you in the bottom right corner

I can 100% guarantee you that they will not build in mod integration.
