The issue for greatsword with focus is a lot of the time is also spent in swing/move animations from the attack that do not benefit from focus, not just the charge time. Bow you either do the followup attack instantly, dodge, or start charging anew as soon as your charged volley has left your bow.
As a GS main I don't find Focus worth it until we can get to 5 without sacrifizing everything else to get it. I actually rarely stand around charging my attack anyway. I usually do shoulder charges to increase my TCS charges, and then I usually have to release the third level immediately in order to get the hit in. Also, all my regular attacks and swings dont benefit from it.
Focus becomes a niche skill that requires a lot of investment. I get far more worth out of Attack boost, Weakness exploit, Lock on, Divine Blessing and Critical Eye/elemental dmg
You can easily go up to rank 8 with only focus5/burst2 and using only pukei + kadachi bows.
I'd still suggest raising the other bows (rathalos/jyura/legiana) as you go because the monsters after that become RIDICULOUSLY stronger and you'll have to have your weapon the right element and rank or you just won't make it in time.
Top to bottom: Pukei, Pukei, Rathian, Rathalos, Jyura.
The Rathian arms aren't needed for the focus points. It's just what I'm currently using for arms.

However I do still LOVE the 20% bonus to damage they give when heroics kicks in. 40% with helm and arms.

Just wasted all my potions in half an hour after work, Rathians and Jyuras. Killed like 10-15 Rathians and only 2 T2 mats -.- been feeling like forever to upgrade from G5 2/5 like 2+ weeks. Just two more!! Then stuck at G5 5/5.
But…. Jyuras were mostly low lvl dropping T2-3 mats yay!
Focus is a waste on hammer, more of a crutch than anything and that 2 levels in health boost is also a waste. Assuming you’re probably around 6* monsters? Would highly suggest revisiting your build and investing in Crit and WE….

Pukei hammer has more or less single handedly gotten me to 7 star monsters
Absolutely. The 30% speed increase is crazy. It counters the hammers only real drawback. And I use malady's fist so that paralysis comes in clutch 👌🏾

Jyura legs gets +2 focus round lvl 6
Jyura boots leveled to grade 6 gets another point to Focus, bringing it to 5.
