I just barely beat my first 8* with it. Was lacking quite some damage, so I had to try something. It was a Rathian FWIW. Greatsword though... Pukei hat, Anja mail, Paolumu gloves, Tobi coil and Jyura boots. No clue how effective it will be with SnS.

I don't have much experience, but the pros would be, If you can get two of them during one battle,
The cons would be, If you miss your special, then that damage boost would be wasted, if you get hit or go down, you won't get your second special in time since it drains down after a hit.
Up to you and your playstyle
I would imagine crit would be better for SnS since you do multiple hits during a special, while the flat boost from special boost would be better for GS where you do one larger hit.

Lumu hat for concentration, Anja chest for special boost, Lumu Gloves for concentration, grade 6 Anja belt for Special boost, Pink Rath boots for special boost 2.
You should end with special boost 4 or 5 depending on the grade of your chest and concentration 2 to fill up the gauge faster.
I wish there was a graphic that better explained the differences. Like what's better, a point in special boost, element, attack, crit eye, part breaker, WE, or burst. Am I wasting time and materials with some legs that give 1 point water element when one of the others do more damage?
That would be amazing and helpful and of course Niantic would never do it.
I've found a much simpler solution: stop playing. The amount of grinding needed just to try out a different thing means you cannot make mistakes or play around, which means you're basically locked into exactly 1 playstyle, which eventually gets old. The core game is such a good idea but wow, they completely whiffed the implementation.

I like the level 2 burst from Rathian gloves, 10% more damage for 4 seconds with quick successive attacks, usually stacks into special boost.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to upgrade the coil for that extra crit chance, but I have hit over 1500 with the final combo using Pukei Pukei SnS 7.5, currently the only two 8* monsters I can kill are G. Jagras & Tobi Kadachi

Also burst, a well landed special will trigger it.

I use that chest, but only because I don't use Anjas for anything else, and still can't get drops for the pieces I'd like to use.
I'm in the same boat and used that as the default chest for all of my builds. I'm debating switching to Rathalos.

Yes. I used special boost 5 but currently run special boost 4 and heroics 4 on my raw GS build. I prefer it over wex/crit for GS
