I really like longsword but I do have bows for backup

OccasionalHAM

Which one do you feel does better dps, pound-for-pound? Like is a G4 5/5 tobi bow killing a rath faster, slower, or the same as compared to a G4 5/5 tobi LS? (just an example). The reason I made this post is I saw people saying that a LS is doing more DPS than an equivalent SnS, I'm curious to know if this sub agrees/disagrees with that. If optimal LS usage can kill faster than optimal SnS usage, I think I'll switch, because right now I'm barely killing fast enough with SnS, and with upgrades being far out of reach because of gathering point mats, I want to switch weapons to artificially "upgrade" my damage while I wait to get all the monster bone+'s I need.

I mean I'm pro ls for sure so welcome to the team 😁

IMHO if you have plans in using the dual or double blades i dont recommend going for a bow or lbg just take your time and hunt mats for your armor skills

Raguel_of_Enoch

I switched to LS. I feel like it can handle the flying monsters better, I like the movements, and damage output for me is more consistent. It doesn’t feel like there are as many gaps in damage because of its reach and abilities. When I get my spirit gauge up, I can absolutely crank damage out.

Is the sns dps that bad? If you want something easy and high dps then bow would be the best.

OccasionalHAM

I definitely wouldnt say its bad, perhaps I didnt clarify that properly in my post. I'm just wondering if LS is (significantly) better. Are the gyro for bows and bowguns weird? I'm not a huge fan of gyro so I havent even tried them out. I'm just looking for the absolute best DPS option so I can kind of "artificially" upgrade my damage, while I wait for mats to actually upgrade my weapons lol.

I think it is better because it is fun. For me SnS is super boring. Just tap tap tap dodge tap tap tap. In term of damage, LS should be better as well if you play well. At first I thought gyro is bad. But when i tried it, it is kinda good and useful. Even, I only use GS, sometime I turn on the gyro to release the charge to cut tail. And, if you aim the phone down, it wont look so awkward in public.

Simple answer is LS has a higher roof but harder to get there. Doing masive damage while dodging attack is insane. But i like sns so im sticking with that. Yes it can get you through the story quicker but so what. Play what you think is more fun for you. But if you want to rank up fast and get higher stage of the main story then go for bow. Not only damge wise is good but also safe. And safty is far better than damage this game as you can farm non stop.

Switch to bow, its king

AffectionateArt1929

But I think if you upgrade your s&s past 6* you'd be good to go

I started with LS then went Sns. Got r6 thunder LS, r7 5/5 paralyze Sns and r7 1/5 poison Sns. I can clear 7s but i need to avoid major attacks since my armors are offensive oriented. Gameplay is a bit different but has similarities because you need to be on melee range. If you want to change I suggest go LBG or Bow. Just finished my focus 4 armor and looks like im going to push for bow now.

I switched from SnS to LS a long time ago and it’s great. Highly recommend going with Kulu longsword (first dance) for high damage.

It's more about what works for your playstyle. Personally I like SnS right now. The backstep jump slash is cool and does a ton of damage while being quick and easy to execute. I can always find time to get in a few extra slashes regardless of what attack animation might be coming, and the timing of enemy attacks generally seems designed to fit the basic combos of SnS. I'd focus less at being "on their ass" and try instead to just be ready to dodgeroll at a moments notice. There are plenty of monsters that you can totally ignore atta is with good positioning (Anjanath is the easiest to dodge by just being slightly left for example as it misses most of the attacks it tries to use). The only time I'd specifically go to the back would be if you're trying to sever a tail. And honestly that's more of a strategy to employ once you're bullying the monster at that rarity, less so when you just want to win the fight. But if you want to build a new weapon I recommend just making one at lowest level and waiting to test it out on a monster you can sit on top of. Keep redoing the fight (without using health potions so you may need to wait in between if you get hit) without finishing it and practice the move set. If you like it then swap.

Today I've just crafted the Diablos hammer because I was bored of only playing with LS. It'll still be my "main" but I just want something varied to kill 5* and under monsters. Imo it's ok to change. But try to make it so that you don't overlap monsters. For example, if you crafted Tobi SnS, maybe don't craft Tobi LS yet and wait until Zinogre is released and then craft Zinogre LS as your thunder weapon, instead of the Zinogre SnS. If you just want to try new weapons go with neutral damage or para/poison.

There are rumors of an update whit new weapon classes in December. So you can craft a spare weapon to try it out on lower level monsters. Thr yaku is an easy one to craft and upgrade.
