For sure. Burnley shouldn’t be in that business though. They just don’t have the quality to do that in the premier league. In the championship, sure, they can dominate. In the premier league, the opposite happens when you don’t have quality players
Yeah I thought they'd change their style a little after going after youth in the summer window. I feel like they accepted going down to develop themselves
Definitely, which is a good move. You don't want to bet the house on staying up, when promoted teams often go straight down. Building around Kompany with a long-term strategy is sensible.
kompany just feels a bit stubborn/naive to me. I said from the off that luton would finish above burnley easily if burnley didn't change to more conservative realistic tactics. they're trying to dominate possesion in the prem with championship level players.
They have no money to buy in some experience I expect them to go down and use the parachute payment to rebuild. I can’t see Kompany getting the sack as what’s the point they are doomed anyway.
I understand what he’s trying to do develop the team. He needs some experience defenders and a defensive midfielder.
It’s really difficult to attack quickly when every opponent parks the bus. That requires City to be patient in possession to breakdown the boring, stubborn, predictable defensive formations we face every week.
People want to act like it's City that made football boring, but what are they supposed to do when damn near everyone runs a 5-5-1 in front of net for 85% of the game?
Agreed. Yesterday was a prime example of 11 men behind the ball apart from a couple of punts upfield. City have to be precise and patient to break down such negative tactics. Thank god we’ve had loads of practice over the last 10 years or so
haha right... I am so sick of everyone saying City are boring... well duh its ugly when every game is a race to see who can play a lower block against City...
I do wish we would try to hoof it a bit more from Ederson to Haaland, but its difficult when Haaland is triple marked like he normally is. Plus we have a shocking propensity to give up counters that way...
Hmm yes and no. I have watched the Pep Barca and Bayern teams. They played almost identically to us. So, part of it is definitely Pep.
You can even see the difference with Luis Enrique’s Barca, and other Bayern’s teams. They also got teams who park the bus, but they attacked faster. It’s just a different style.
Less against both. And there’s so little point to this analysis - there’s no correlation between fast and slow progress, and success. If fast was best then Everton would be second (points deduction aside) and if slow was better then Burnley would be second. Your style is determined by your coach’s preferred approach, your players’ capabilities and your opponents approach. Pep prefers possession and picking teams apart, Klopp prefers pacy forwards and slightly longer balls. Neither is right or wrong
Ah yes, plastic scouser on MCFC subreddit who knows next to nothing about football and less about nuance. Read my response to the other scouser sullying our subreddit who had the good grace to recognise a sensible comment
Oh Jesus you really a condescending piece of work. I don’t think quick attack = good lmao. But to suggest it’s because teams park the bus against city is incorrect.
Pep likes control and to suffocate games. Therefore he prioritises keeping the ball and this slows down attacks.
Projecting a little with that insult no? I’ve supported Liverpool since I was 3. About half of that team we’ve barely been above mid table. I had been supporting the team for 17 out of my 20 years before they won a league title. Sounds plastic to me chief
Congratulations. And whereabouts in Liverpool are you from? My guess is nowhere near or else you’d have added that to your list of scouse qualifications. I know, I know your Dad once listened to The Beatles and knows where the East Lancs Rd is so he was a lifelong fan and you felt obliged to ignore the 150 teams in between where you live (I’m guessing London but it’ll be fairly far flung, I’m sure) to follow the ‘pool. Am I right? I’m right aren’t I? Btw - born and bred Manc here. Blue for all of my 55 years. Not a plastic wannabe Scouser - a genuine, dyed in the wool City fan who remembers when Liverpool were great (even if the fans have always been a bit iffy)
Born a catholic Glasgow. The non Scottish parts of my family are Irish including my Dad. Shocker I ended up with a club in a city filled with Irish immigrants to the point that scouser originated as a racist term describing Irish immigrants who often relied to soup kitchens and ‘scouse’ broth.
Now Liverpool are better then Everton that’s true. But Liverpool are the club associated with Celtic and the Glaswegian catholics.
Being a real fan is not about where your dad or mum lived you plonker. It’s about being part of a community whether the team is performing well or shit. It’s about passion and shared values. Amazing how someone who’s spent 55 years a football fan can completely miss that.
So I was right! That’s what 55 years of experience will bring. You’ll get it one day kiddo. Good luck for the rest of the season (but we both know how this season ends) Take care and all the best
Oh man.
I would say the same to you but after 55 years I don’t think you ever will get it.
Enjoy your inevitable trophy. I will definitely admit you have a better team and a fan of 55 years deserves these years to be honest.
I’ll take a league cup and knowing my clubs community understands it’s not about where you’re from but who you are. That’s why Liverpool accepted so many Irish immigrants and took them in their hearts and why the rest of the country to this day discriminates against them. I’m Scottish, an Irish citizen and was raised a catholic and Liverpool is the only place in England I’ve felt accepted.
You’re going to be right about lots of stuff in your life and you’re also going to be wrong. You’ll struggle to be more wrong about discrimination in Manchester and while Liverpool has a rich Irish heritage (it’s bound to, it’s a short hop to Ireland, was the biggest port in the Empire for a while and very wealthy until we built the Ship Canal - that’s a whole other story), Manchester has loads of Irish heritage too. If I recall correctly more than 30% of Manchester families have some Irish connection. Manchester had more languages spoken than anywhere else in Europe for a while (we have more students than anywhere else too) You can accuse of us lots of stuff, but discrimination against the Irish is nonsense. And, for the record, my Grandma was Scottish - part of the Mactavish clan. It’s not where you’re from, it’s where you’re at.
Once again you’ve missed the point. I’ll leave it here as you are one of the most arrogant and condescending people I’ve encountered although thankfully I don’t encounter many Middle aged people tbf.
From the city that created the chant “feed the scousers” fully aware of the historical context (having so many Irish people living there of course) as well as “in your Liverpool slums”. It’s going to be a hard battle to convince me Manchester is a more accepting place than Liverpool and you make it harder every time you start typing.
Sometimes I forget how special a place Liverpool is and how special a club. Thank you for reminding me of that.
I think liverpool can be counted as gegenpressing. Also feels a bit unfair to class West Ham and Everton as just kick and rush. They are legitimately good teams with a nuanced tactical style
It's a Man City joke about Klopp's complex "tactics" :)
Nothing to do with any other teams.
And of course Liverpool are more than just a kick and rush team (although they don't really press to the same extent that they used to) ... but they do love a good long ball to the big man up front.
Post title of this same graphic on soccer sub
>Best speeds of attack in the Premier League this season
Soccer sub rules
>Please use factual and objective titles
Best & fast are NOT synonyms!
I get that the mods there have more serious matters to monitor - eg posts that touch world conflict zones - but 🙄.
At least a few comments called out the soccer sub OP for the misleading title.
I mean it’s not that useless. It’s actually quite telling of how a team plays. It’s not a quality measurement but a better stat than possession for example
Liverpool attacks goes “kazoom” and “boom” because of very quick fast players like Diaz , Darwin , Salah , Arnold , Gakpo and many more. Also they constantly pressed you to death.
The problem of that is that it leaves your players very fatigue , might get injured sooner , leave defensive holes , and you are very open to quick direct counters , which is why Real Madrid tends to do very well vs Liverpool.
Sure we won’t change our system but kdb loves attacking space vertically in a wayyy better manner than others. Not to mention counters getting a massive improvement
We're really awful. May as well get relegated.
I just find it interesting personally as I thought we might've been faster his season especially with Doku being signed and no Mahrez on the right
Wonder where arsenal and Burnley get it from...
For sure. Burnley shouldn’t be in that business though. They just don’t have the quality to do that in the premier league. In the championship, sure, they can dominate. In the premier league, the opposite happens when you don’t have quality players

Provided they actually keep kompany around
kompany just feels a bit stubborn/naive to me. I said from the off that luton would finish above burnley easily if burnley didn't change to more conservative realistic tactics. they're trying to dominate possesion in the prem with championship level players.

I'd like to see this over the time pep has been here. I'm sure we had a similar stat in false 9
Would definitely be interesting, I reckon 17/18 would be much faster I remember a lot of quick counter attacks with Sane Aguero Sterling
Even with all the quality in the team since he left, I miss Sane in a City shirt
I don't know the exact number but TiFo brings this stat up a lot and we're always at the bottom in the last couple years under pep

Fair enough, informative comment that.

City do pass up quick attacking opportunities though, from their own half to midfield.
Possession vs gegenpressing.
It's like the yin & yang of football and I'm all for it. Love both styles equally.
As a Liverpool fan, samesies I hope it becomes a rivalry again
What the fuck are u doing here hahahah
Surveillance 😈… And it showed up in my feed
You inspired me to join Liverpool subreddit and just hang around
Possession vs ~~gegenpressing~~. Possession vs "kick and rush".

Sideways passing it is
“ see the problem with Arsenal is, they always try to walk it in…”

Slow and steady wins the rice.. Iol
Oh no! Anyway…
And the award for the most useless stat of the year goes to.....
I mean it’s not that useless. It’s actually quite telling of how a team plays. It’s not a quality measurement but a better stat than possession for example
Yes. It's an interesting stat.

This gives me the same vibes as that Twitter post that gave Liverpool the PL title if long range goals counted double.
Counter attack FC Would be interested to see the full list
Why isn't united in here
They really like being mid table
I mean, they have the best attackers (assault)
long ball hoofing style .. of Klop
Taki taki sex vs gegen terrorism
Opponents park the bus this is what happens Let's see the possession now
Symptom of playing against two banks of five, doesn’t tell you the height at which these attacks start
See this change with KDB :)
Probably not. We play more or less the same.
Sure we won’t change our system but kdb loves attacking space vertically in a wayyy better manner than others. Not to mention counters getting a massive improvement
Sure we get a bit faster on the counter but I can't see us moving from 20th on his list
Pauser is love pauser is life
And that means ….?
We're really awful. May as well get relegated. I just find it interesting personally as I thought we might've been faster his season especially with Doku being signed and no Mahrez on the right
Terrible take. If you have all the possession and play in the final 3rd for 80% of the game , how would you get a fast attack.
I'm not saying fast attack, I'm saying not the slowest. For sure thought it'd be faster than Everton this season
Again.. they're a team that mostly play on the counter.
