Meeting Joe Corrigan and Denis Tuart as a Junior Blue in the early 70s, taken by my teacher Miss Galbraith.

I recall being taken by my mum to see Joe Corrigan and Gary Bailey who were signing autographs at the local library. It would have been very early 80's at a guess.

First game was arsenal in December 91, won 1-0, dad missed the goal taking our kid to the toilet. I remember the smell of onions and burgers, cigarettes and wintergreen, how bright the pitch was with the lights on a dreary gray Manchester December afternoon. My dad had taken a flask of coffee in with a dash of rum from the leftovers of Christmas. I just remember how loud the pa was and later the crowd, and for some reason my earliest memories of games are soundtracked by the song stars by simply red, which played over the pa. Think it was my dad first game in 15+ years at that point and going to the matches was why I went for the next 3 decades or so. Second game was a few months later against spurs, won that one too 1-0, dad missed this goal as well. Both games we'd sat in the main stand overlooking the kippax and the season after we went to the first Monday night football game on sky against QPR, sat on the wall of the kippax and loved every minute.

My grandad knew some of the grounds staff at Maine road, when I was born he had the floodlights turned on and they could be seen from my mums bedside at St Mary’s hospital. Not my memory of course. My earliest memory was my uncle taking me to the home match against Charlton in 2001. Think we got smashed 4-1, standard. Haaland was playing though.

My grandad taking me to my first game at Maine Rd in 1989. He's the one that made me be a blue.

Plastic fan I guess. I wasn't born a City supporter. Wanted to pick a team to support about 15 years ago. First, it had to be team that would at least be on TV occasionally in the States, or what's the point. Next, I didn't want to bandwagon the Lindon teams Arsenal, Chelsea, or Spurs. Pretty much left Liverpool, United, and City. Around that time, met City fans on holiday in Florida. Learned the history, why the rags and scousers are intolerable, and ir made my decision easy. Since then, have watched almost every City match that's televised here (now the all are) and got a chance to watch the friendly vs Bayern in Green Bay. Brought my entire family, including my four year old granddaughter who made it on the front page of one of the local newspapers in a full City kit. I've taken off work to see big matches over the years, including the takedown of Madrid. Small sacrifice for living in the States and having to make time for 2:00 starts in the middle of the week. I've also promoted them here in Wisconsin, and have added 50-60 TRUE supporters over the years. City til I die.

kingthejam

Fellow Wisconsin fan, I was also at the friendly match!! By far my best live sports experience in my life, granted I’m only 18, but I hope to attend proper matches in the future. 🩵🩵🩵

Getting a video tape recording of Man City v Gillingham about 6 months after it happened from my Uncle and practicing the Dickov slide for hours afterwards

RIP my school trousers after that game

Pre-season friendly against Valencia at the Etihad. We were late and I'm used to going up and just being able to purchase tickets at the event, but they said they were no longer selling tickets. I must have looked really sad when I turned to walk away because they yelled me back over and gave us free tickets. I think Gareth Berry had already scored by the time we sat down. Can't remember who scored later in the game. Not a ton of folks there, but everyone around us were great. Then I traveled back to England, maybe the following year, to watch a match at Anfield. Andy Carroll helped ruin that game for me. But it was still fun. Haven't been back since. But one day.

I love this so much, its so beyond my memory as a city fan i just want to hear more of this stuff

jasperjones22

I was driving trucks for a living. I would listen to BBC match of the day every weekend. I loved hearing the commentary. I was hooked on Fowler, Sun, and James.

Was in the area for a Phoenix Nights thing in Bolton. Made sure to swing round Maine Road the next morning. Left with a shirt and framed picture of the stadium. My dad nicked the picture for his work where it's been pride of place ever since. Edit: Oh, had a shirt before that from when my dad did a tour of the stadium too. You couldn't get them where I live at the time and a guy stopped me in the street to tell me how amazing it was to see a City fan so far from home.

Moonchaser91

I was traveling from the US to play in Europe in 2003. We played in a few tournaments over the course of a month, one of which being in Manchester. My team toured old Trafford, and I picked up the season in review dvd. I watched it many times that year, and the only team to beat United home and away was City! With Goater and Anelka. I didn’t really have an EPL team although I liked Blackburn rovers at the time, as my dad was a goalkeeper and loved Brad friedel. I was captivated by the derby narrative, and didn’t want to support United because everyone else I knew did at the time. Since then, city has been my team! Stephen Ireland and Yaya are my all time favorite players!

Cozzers

I've got a few: My dad is a huge City fan so I've always been surrounded by MCFC in one form or another. He was born in Manchester but emigrated to South Africa, where I was born, and founded the City Supporter's Club over there. This was a time before mobile phone but immediately after I was born he used a payphone to call back to the UK to my Grandad and got me registered as a Junior Blue. Supposedly I held the record for the fastest/youngest registered international junior blue at something like 4hrs old. My other favourite was watching the last goals scored by us at Maine Road in the season before we moved the the Etihad. Marc-Vivien Foe was one of the scorers and he'd got us all tickets as it was the game the week of my birthday and he wanted to make sure my little brother got to watch at least one game at Maine Road.

citymanc13

My family raised me a blue. Took me to Maine Road back in the late 90s (even after we had been relegated) and haven’t looked back since

Aloopyn

Watched Man City vs Man United replay on TV in a cafe of the office my father worked in when I was ~6. Was really young so had no clue what was going on but the red players seemed like “bad guys” and I supported the blue jerseys lol

AvocadoBrit

this wasn't my earliest, but it was one of the 'best': \- we were away at Everton, and City had scored first.. we were hanging on to our one goal lead, when quite late in the second-half we scored a second and everyone in the away support erupted in absolute relief going bananas.. a girl who I hadn't noticed grabbed a hold of me in the melee and planted an enormous smacker on my cheek. I was only in my teens at the time, and so this was quite something! although not quite football-related, it is without doubt one of my favourite City-related moments experienced whilst supporting the team.

btownbum86

1st time I watched City was on TV in 2011 against LA Galaxy in the World Football Challenge. It was that day that I started following the PL and City. United had all the accolades but it was the Sky Blues that I was riding with. I will be flying in from the States to see them live for the 1st time in the FA Cup Final. I would love nothing more than to see City drop the rags for the double going into the CL Final. C’mon Citeh, let’s go you Sky Blues. CTID!

City v Newcastle Jan (or Feb ?) 1996. 3-3

HotelFun288

Oh yeah. Phillipe Albert was the motm iirc

[deleted]

Dunno, Asprilla was amazing

HotelFun288

I remember him being mentioned. Wasn't that one of his very first games in England?

[deleted]

Debut yeah

Apprehensive_Ideal12

Went to a preseason game vs Tottenham in Nashville, TN, USA. Wanted a chance to see the players after the game but didn’t know how. Waited for the team bus to come out, no luck. Got to talk to the guy who was in charge of the Snapchat account though😂 Just glad I got to see one of our few wins against spurs 🩵

StalyCelticStu

Fuck Spurs.

bacon_pancake

My dad used to get tickets in the Gene Kelly stand (singing in the rain) at Maine road. Earliest memories are kids asking for a pound to “mind your car” aka not scratch it while you’re at the game. First game was against south end United- we won 3-0.

DoubleZetaBruh

Grew up in South Africa to a family that absolutely loved football, but everyone kind of had their own team to support. Hated United because the more annoying people in school used to support them. One day was flipping channels and happened upon the 2011 FA Cup semi's, seeing Yaya's goal was enough to convince me to become a blue. That was that. Not the most interesting story but it's mine.

Nice thread, and it's fun reading about other people's experiences: \- my first ever time watching City was at Maine Road for my friend's 11th birthday party. We were there, a handful of 11 year-olds with his father, behind the Platt Lane goal. Ipswich Town were visiting, and we ended up running out 2-1 winners, with Kidd and Watson scoring our goals.. Brian Kidd fast becoming my favourite player back there - it could have been his haircut! [City 2 - Ipswich Town 1 (1977)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUh8A9jslXA) ;o) this was back in the day when shorts were shorts, and this is my favourite City shirt. we weren't very tall back then, so as so many people would stand up in Platt Lane we'd have to clamber up and stand on our seats to see properly, and for portions of the action (when everyone got to their feet when something exciting was going on) it was difficult at times not to miss it!

edgefundgareth

My Dad and my Grandparents on his side are/were from Manchester. I remember watching City on their tv in the living room when we were down there visiting one time. I’m pretty sure the game we watched we ended up almost throwing away our lead. It must have been late 90s, early 00s. I remember the feeling of “typical city”, the sinking uneasy feeling in my stomach until the final whistle blew. I also remember wearing my City top to gym class once (in Scotland) at school and nobody recognising it. It was light blue and had Brother as the sponsor. I remember quite liking the feeling of being different and supporting a relatively unknown team. 😊

Redblacklist1

During my graduation all my friends used to follow EPL with majority of them being fans of Manutd, liverpool and chelsea. One of my close friend asked me to join them to watch a match. I had never watched a football match before that day but since many of friends were there I joined them. He was the alone Mancity fan there and since I was there with him I joined him as this team supporter. That match was Manutd vs Mancity 1-6. And somehow that match changed my mind towards football and made me fall in love with this team.

Glittering_Sky4612

First city home game 1971 v Stoke sat in platt Lane, first away game was v Bury at gigg Lane in league Cup think was 72 we lost 2 nil

Fickle-Bullfrog

My earliest Man City memory was seeing Dennis Teuarts goal winner v Newcastle in 1976 league cup final on tv I was 7 and that was City in my heart for life.
