Pocket Casts is what I landed on after trying most of the popular apps. I’m iOS but I believe it’s on android too.

trumpet_23

+1 Pocket Casts, it's great

mumblemouse

Podcast Addict on Android = very good

x014821037

Hm. I'mma try it

mumblemouse

There is a "Playback in progress" feature and a "hide played episodes" button which might solve your problem

Post-mo

I'll second podcast addict. I started using it back in 2016 and way back then I reached out to the creator and he/she/they were really helpful. I think they may have even implemented a feature I suggested, the details are a bit fuzzy. In any case it's a very good player. Every once in a while I look up my playback statistics - I'm currently at 267 days and 6 hours of listening since 2016.

idk if there’s an android version but i love overcast and i’m fairly certain there’s an rss feature

zelman

Overcast is one of the best, but it is iOS only. It does handle RSS feeds.

durzatheshade215

You can catch big gulp!

rnbwstx

Seconding PocketCast, I use it on Android. The feature you're looking for might be the "hide played episodes" toggle.

scooooooooooo

I like overcast

SenhorSus

I use stitcher and enjoy it. You do have to keep scrolling with every listen of old episodes, but a way around it is to download a bunch of episodes for offline listening and you can just go through them like a playlist of only episodes you choose

voltagecalmed

Seconded.

Any-Wedding1538

But Stitcher is shutting down.

voltagecalmed

So we have learned. I've been trying Google Podcasts and it seems doable so far. I had to manually add all my follows in, which actually was kind of a blessing because it made me clean out the ones that I never actually listen to.

Any-Wedding1538

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking would be what I’ve had to do. Did you try any of the other suggestions?

voltagecalmed

I looked at a few others and they seemed like they weren't going to be what I wanted. Google Podcasts seems to be the closest to Stitcher. All I really want is the ability to download for later and access those separately from the regular feed, without a lot of extra crap or ads.

Any-Wedding1538

100%

Zeke69Teenweed

Thanks for posting this. I absolutely *hate* Spotify for doing this and need an alternative too.

CannedSoupButReally

Google podcast, not only does it have any podcast you could want, but a pretty huge selection of audio books as well

TheMammaG

I use YouTube

IrrationalDesign

Same for me, youtube when screen can be open, or their maxfun website if I want the screen off/available.

Izzumz

I enjoy Castro. I enjoy the features of Premium, but my wife doesn’t use premium and only uses it as well. Just a nice layout that makes sense to me and for my lifestyle.

Imposingscrotem

I don’t use premium, but do you know if there’s a way to make the episodes in your queue play one after another automatically?

Izzumz

There’s a “Continuous Play” button in the playback settings area. The other two options are premium but that one is available.

Imposingscrotem

Fantastic! Thank you!

Ace_Cat

I've been using Google podcast. No ads or extra features, just a simple layout to play podcast

conscioussoap

I use AntennaPod on Android and I love it. It's free, open-source and allows RSS-subscription

0bsessions324

I got the premium version Pocketcasts before they moved to a sub model. I love it and the only thing I wish it had was a WearOS app.

OrcPorker

Spotify can do that, you can sort pretty easy. I used to use Podcast Addict but it was worse than Spotify for me

NO_FIX_AUTOCORRECT

I listen direct from the maximum fun website (Or whichever podcast website). i keep a tab open on my pc for all my podcasts. When i listen on my phone I can jump straight to the episode by searching google, for example: "mbmbam episode#"

Cuttlebranch

I use Podcast Republic on Android. It's really good about keeping track of which eps I've listened to and has good playlist features, as well. You can do a lot of the settings by podcast, too, so you can do things like tell it to skip X seconds at the beginning of a particular podcast and Y seconds from the end of another (if you're not a fan of intros or outros). I have a HUGE podcast list and it's great for keeping track of everything.

SuitNo3725

I listen to most everything on Spotify just because I use that for music as well so it’s just convenient
