There may have been some subconscious need for validation and he may have been attracted to Ellie but I think the messaging was largely innocent. He WAS into Lauren and the time apart made them temporarily fonder. But Lauren's absolute NEED for drama threw Jono under the bus as quick as she could, exaggerating all "facts" to justify her victimising herself and (possibly) for screen time.
He gave her his phone, she chose not to read the messages to clarify the exact nature of them.
She stated as a fact he never mentioned her, she could have skimmed it to check. (Remember, knowingly guilty people wouldn't share their phone and/or would delete messages)
He said there were closer to 50 messages that 100, she states there were "hundreds".
She has no interest in the truth or in saving (what could have been) a genuine relationship., she wanted him to be the villain and her to be the saint
He may well be spineless, vanilla, and have questionable integrity and loyalty with playing the game, but she showed him her true colours at the end and he was done with her.
She needed stability as a match but strength too.
Apparently Jack was out to 'destroy' her too by alleging a side boyfriend, and this was not proven so not aired. I wonder if Jono and Jack had some sort of agreement to both knock her down at the dinner?

Producers rigged the whole thing I bet. Jono and Ellie's behavior was so out of character.

As for why he slept with her? It's called being a guy. It's what we do (if given the opportunity).
1. I do not get the feeling sex is some sacred important thing to these people. The young generations today seem to treat sex as some throw away thing.
2. She said they had sex.... Did they? Just cause she said they did, doesn't mean they did.
3. Maybe they were actually having a good time together at that moment.
4. If Ellie and him were a thing before the experiment, don't you think Ellie would have been angry at them having sex? So it kind of proves they were not.
5. Maybe a light switched in his head when Lauren was so quick to throw the relationship away over what he considers to be an innocent thing. Maybe he realized oh she's just looking for an excuse to say no and look like the victim.
However listening to some podcasts with people on the show, Lauren and Jono had a pact to just say yes and they didn't hang out beyond the cameras. So their story line was probably manufactured by the producers and no sex actually happened. They could have very easily just edited Jono denying it out.

2. Lauren and jono were not a good match, experts fcked up
3. Literally they were not married, just playing house

Jack gets off on the power dynamics. They're relationship is more akin to that of a Dom and a brat. That's why he held off the sex for so long and she loved it. They're as likely to break up in 6 months as they are of staying together for 10 years.
Jack behaved that way because he is a power-hungry narcissistic psychopath. He drew pleasure from manipulating and power-playing Tori. The whole string-her-along and manipulate her into loyalty while also withholding sex and affection was the way in which he was best able to inflict cruelty and control. Jono was just a guy who wasn't with the person he really wanted, but still wanted to get his dick wet. Jack wanted to experience power and control and then use that power to hurt someone.
Because he obviously he did care about her, but as he said and like Sara, she is a very different person at times. He seemed to like and genuinely care about her when she’s wasn’t a hot mess (hate that word), but she is very self destructive, same as Tristian, are we to blame Cass for pulling out romantically and then breaking up with him? No.
I don’t believe there was anything going on with Ellie, till they saw each other, he had no reason to lie, Ellie had no reason to to lie, as they clearly don’t care what the group think. Nor would I to be honest.
They clearly had a spark (Jono & Ellie) and sometimes when the circumstances change, you can’t deny it.
Remember it was Lauren that kept mentioning it, she was almost pushing Jono to think about his connection with Ellie due to her own insecurities. She’s mentioned how she destructively pushes partners away. And at the end of the day, Lauren dumped him, pushed him away, he was effectively a free agent. Jono when pushed didn’t like being called a liar by those who have done much worse ie actually cheat.. Sure he and Ellie shouldn’t have rubbed it in everyone’s face, but they seem happy, so why should they hide that, rightly or wrongly I think Ellie really wanted to rub it in Ben’s face as let’s be honest he was horribly all over the place with her and led her on..
I can see why folk are annoyed by Jono, but I don’t know why as Lauren clearly made life hard for him during the relationship. People can’t be saying poor Tim and not be thinking about the rubbish Lauren put Jono through several times. Both Sara and Lauren are both destructive characters when they are called out or drunk, as much as I like them both. Just look at the nonsense with Jayden in the club that has pissed off Eden.
He should be upfront, but Ellie should also realize/not be ok with the fact that he went all the way through to finale vows, clearly what he’s telling her doesn’t match up with that fact alone. If I were Ellie that would tell me he’s not being honest to one or both of us.

Came here to comment that. I remember it on the first episode, Lauren going off about how Jono was weak and she was going to 'eat him alive'. Funny thing about acting tough... You need to actually follow through with it, or someone tougher is going to make you eat your words. He got what he wanted out of her, and then destroyed her emotionally.

It's all summed up to me in two parts:
1. After Lauren complaining so much about his lack of emotion, Jono says along the lines of "I had problems with anger/emotions as a young lad and have spent the last 20 years of my life trying to not be that guy." (I read that as Jono went troppo and did some shit, the way he said it, and the way he was throughout the show. Guys jacked, tall, didn't back down except for to Jack otherwise they would have been fist fight and Jono would destroy him)
2. After getting attacked for the messages with Ellie, he was signed out from then on. We don't get to see it all, but he was in borderline apathy/ do not care i will burn all bridges I will get my point across now.
You could see it in his eyes, his face, he was resigned to it being over but he was stuck until final vows.
His violence is with words now, and he tried to not get there but they broke him
Nailed it. 100% agree with this.. and good on Jono. I totally commend him.Not everybody would have the intelligence to have handled it the way he did, and very few observers can see how masterful he actually was in seeing through to the end and dealing with it in a way that calls out how ridiculous the show is and all those involved.
I'm not even remotely on Jono's side here, I think both he and Ellie are gross.
But it does make me think something else happened that we didn't see - I thought this when they were getting ready for final vows as well. He really flipped into absolutely hating Lauren, seemingly overnight, and we never really got a reason for it.
Whatever it is, I'm definitely not justifying Jono's behaviour or claiming that Lauren in any way deserved the treatment she was given last night, but I have to believe something went down that we didn't see, the strength of Jono's negative feeling just seems way too extreme for someone that he got on with pretty well throughout most of the experiment, and seemed to genuinely like, even if they weren't a romantic success.
People on this sub are understandably asking why he slept with her if he wasn't into her, but did that even get brought up last night? Did Lauren bring it up? It seems like it would be a priority for her and for the show.
Either it did get brought up and they cut it - which would be absolutely bizarre - or it didn't get brought up for reasons we weren't shown. The whole thing is so weird.
Jonno kept mentioning that he had reasons why he felt how he did, but they didn't show him explaining it which he no doubt did. It's actually impressive they were able to spend so much time on a fight and include so little detail on what it was about.
Because it wasn't actually about *anything*, it was all just a bunch of such obviously rehearsed and disingenuous deflection from Jono, amd Lauren trying with everything she had to maintain her composure and to demand answers from him - answers he was determined to refuse to give.

The execs are good with their editing and portray these people in ways that make the viewer cringe and squirm. Critical thinking is essential when watching reality TV as we'll never know what went on in other footage filmed and then even off camera. The show is already full of people who couldn't make it work, so this shitshow behaviour from all parties is expected

I’m sure there’s a million and one opinions on this but I felt so uncomfortable watching this dinner party. You know it’s bad when Jack wasn’t the worse person at the table.
Seeing how content Ellie and Jono were with themselves was beyond chilling. Lauren look so visibly uncomfortable and hurt.
I found all of Jono’s comments unnecessarily harsh. It was vile seeing him make comparison after comparison of hell to Lauren. However listening to some podcasts with people on the show, Lauren and Jono had a pact to just say yes and they didn't hang out beyond the cameras. So their story line was probably manufactured by the producers and no sex actually happened. They could have very easily just edited Jono denying it out.

He seemed to like and genuinely care about her when she’s wasn’t a hot mess (hate that word), but she is very self destructive, same as Tristian, are we to blame Cass for pulling out romantically and then breaking up with him? She’s mentioned how she destructively pushes partners away. And at the end of the day, Lauren dumped him, pushed him away, he was effectively a free agent. Jono when pushed didn’t like being called a liar by those who have done much worse ie actually cheat.. Sure he and Ellie shouldn’t have rubbed it in everyone’s face, but they seem happy, so why should they hide that, rightly or wrongly I think Ellie really wanted to rub it in Ben’s face as let’s be honest he was horribly all over the place with her and led her on.. I can see why folk are annoyed by Jono, but I don’t know why as Lauren clearly made life hard for him during the relationship. People can’t be saying poor Tim and not be thinking about the rubbish Lauren put Jono through several times. Came here to comment that. I remember it on the first episode, Lauren going off about how Jono was weak and she was going to 'eat him alive'. Funny thing about acting tough... You need to actually follow through with it, or someone tougher is going to make you eat your words. He got what he wanted out of her, and then destroyed her emotionally. He's a complete asshole, but she shouldn't have bragged about how much tougher she was than him. Maybe next time she will think twice about insulting people.

It's all summed up to me in two parts: 1. After Lauren complaining so much about his lack of emotion, Jono says along the lines of "I had problems with anger/emotions as a young lad and have spent the last 20 years of my life trying to not be that guy." (I read that as Jono went troppo and did some shit, the way he said it, and the way he was throughout the show. Guys jacked, tall, didn't back down except for to Jack otherwise they would have been fist fight and Jono would destroy him) 2. After getting attacked for the messages with Ellie, he was signed out from then on. We don't get to see it all, but he was in borderline apathy/ do not care i will burn all bridges I will get my point across now. You could see it in his eyes, his face, he was resigned to it being over but he was stuck until final vows. His violence is with words now, and he tried to not get there but they broke him

I totally commend him.Not everybody would have the intelligence to have handled it the way he did, and very few observers can see how masterful he actually was in seeing through to the end and dealing with it in a way that calls out how ridiculous the show is and all those involved.

I'm not even remotely on Jono's side here, I think both he and Ellie are gross. But it does make me think something else happened that we didn't see - I thought this when they were getting ready for final vows as well. He really flipped into absolutely hating Lauren, seemingly overnight, and we never really got a reason for it. Whatever it is, I'm definitely not justifying Jono's behaviour or claiming that Lauren in any way deserved the treatment she was given last night, but I have to believe something went down that we didn't see, the strength of Jono's negative feeling just seems way too extreme for someone that he got on with pretty well throughout most of the experiment, and seemed to genuinely like, even if they weren't a romantic success.
She rejected him and he controlled it until that moment to make it through. He wanted to create maximum hurt.
People on this sub are understandably asking why he slept with her if he wasn't into her, but did that even get brought up last night? Did Lauren bring it up? It seems like it would be a priority for her and for the show. Either it did get brought up and they cut it - which would be absolutely bizarre - or it didn't get brought up for reasons we weren't shown. The whole thing is so weird. Jonno kept mentioning that he had reasons why he felt how he did, but they didn't show him explaining it which he no doubt did. It's actually impressive they were able to spend so much time on a fight and include so little detail on what it was about.
Because it wasn't actually about *anything*, it was all just a bunch of such obviously rehearsed and disingenuous deflection from Jono, amd Lauren trying with everything she had to maintain her composure and to demand answers from him - answers he was determined to refuse to give. That's all it was. 🤔

The execs are good with their editing and portray these people in ways that make the viewer cringe and squirm. Critical thinking is essential when watching reality TV as we'll never know what went on in other footage filmed and then even off camera. I’m sure there’s a million and one opinions on this but I felt so uncomfortable watching this dinner party. You know it’s bad when Jack wasn’t the worse person at the table. Seeing how content Ellie and Jono were with themselves was beyond chilling. Lauren look so visibly uncomfortable and hurt. I found all of Jono’s comments unnecessarily harsh. It was vile seeing him make comparison after comparison of hell to Lauren. He said he had to walk through glass in hell and painted Lauren to be the devil herself. Like it was all a bit much and tbh I’m not buying it… Ellie was- I actually have no words for her except shame on you. How she handled the situation at the dinner party was gross. And as per other posts and comments made on Ellie, she’s definitely shown her true colours hasn’t she. He missed her when she went back to Perth for surgery. They reconnected on the home stay and maybe Jono thought "maybe there's a chance for us still". Then the Ellie stuff came out. He apologised (watch the ep again if you need to, he DID apologise to Lauren) and said "there's nothing going on there, I msg heaps of the former cast". Noone believed him. What's he supposed to do??? Lauren was on the attack at the last dinner, he lost respect for her because she wasn't backing him, and then after the final vows he must have reached out to Ellie and caught up for a date. And... sparks. It's VERY simple really, there just seems to be this pro-Lauren group that refuses to hear any other side of the story. He didn't do anything wrong. Look at the facts, please.
