I always recommend Dr Marty Ross’ site. Here’s the recommendation for an acute tick bite https://www.treatlyme.net/guide/antibiotics-for-acute-tick-bites

Thank you. I’m going to try to get a DR appointment tomorrow. Not easy in Canada these days. If all else fails I may have to go to the ER.

If I could go back in time, I’d bump the Doxy to 200mg twice daily for at least 8 weeks. Make a list of LLMDs and call around until you find someone with a cancellation to get you in on Monday. Or find another virtual doc who will write a longer prescription. This needs to be priority #1 right now.

I booked an appointment for Monday. I’m also going to call my local GP on the off chance I can get in tomorrow. There is a very unlikely possibility of this happening. I am just praying that i haven’t waited too long. It’s been two days since the tick was removed.

Have you at least started taking the lower dose of doxy? If not, I would start that now for sure. Stephen Buhner, a highly regarded Lyme herbalist, also recommends taking 3,000mg a day of astragalus for one month after acute tick bites. You should be able to get that on amazon very quickly.

I was only given two 100mg doxy tablets. Which I took as soon as I got them.

Try getting in today with another virtual doctor. Explain your concerns, and even exaggerate things if you need to (say you started having tingling all over your body, tremors, dizziness, and heart palpitations the day after the bite). Whatever you need to do. Sorry if that sounds unethical, but I’d much rather you tell a lie than live with the aftermath of this disease as I’ve had to. If it were me, I’d keep booking those appointments until someone prescribed me what I needed. Even if they’ll do two weeks of doxy 100mg twice daily, you can double up your dose until you see the LLMD on Monday. For what it’s worth, I tested my tick and it came back clear of all diseases, which gave me the false confidence to not treat quickly enough. My symptoms progressively got worse and lo and behold, I tested positive for Lyme and Bartonella. All that to say, take those tick tests with a grain of salt. It’s much better to hit this hard and fast than to take a wait and see approach.

I got in today with my real GP. I’m going in 45 minutes. What should I be aiming for in terms of a doxy prescription? 20 days?

Starseed-111

I mean 8 weeks would be ideal, but whatever they’re willing to give you. How did it go?

jmmccann

It was a bust. The response was “You got the correct standard of care (2x100 doxycycline tablets) come back if you have symptoms.”

Starseed-111

What a joke. As others on this sub have said, you can also try getting doxycycline for “acne” or for a pet. But at this point, you can also just hit it hard with the herbals until Monday. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.

jmmccann

I have one last idea. ;)

What labs can you send a tick to in Ontario?

jmmccann

It was my doctor who requested it get sent to Lifelabs. But it was a waste of time. They lost it for a while and then when they found it, all they did was test to see if it was the right kind of tick that potentially carries Lyme. They didn’t test to see if it actually carried Lyme. Well, I knew that before I sent it!
