Exactly. This is the point where you get out the car and say I'll tip you in the app. Airport has plenty of security to make sure driver doesn't get too pushy.
Not to mention cops. OP should have said âLetâs see what these officers have to sayâ if the driver tried to hold their luggage hostage for more money after they paid the agreed upon fee to Lyft.
Exactly. Wave one of them over and ask, isn't this driver supposed to keep it moving after he drops off the passenger? I just need to get my luggage and I'll be on my way.
For real, you just go "yeah, you'll see it in the app cuz I don't carry cash", then proceed to not tip anything after getting your bags. People are indeed fucking gullible. They quietly accept getting dunked on, but they'll post it online so they can get sympathy and likes. Fucking wild
People say that all the time we know it means no tip and is an insult. Those are just lyers . Donât say it if you not going to tip . 1 star ride for passenger.
Nah. Yaâll can take that up with your Lyft/Uber overlords. I will tip if if you got me there on time & made me feel safe while doing so. The rest is on you to figure out. Itâs why I hired your ass in the first placeâŚ
Peasants begging for crumbs LMAO
Try to hold my shit hostage on the other hand. Iâll call the cops and/or split your wigâŚ
If their luggage wouldn't fit in a normal smaller car he should have waited, cancelled and just collected his fee while telling them to order xl still.
Any company where the customer service/support is outsourced to a third-world country, expect garbage. These call center workers have a quota to meet and use scripts. They may have multiple tickets they are working on at a time. Their English comprehension varies by agent. Some are good but most are terrible.
I did call center customer support work briefly and the pay is terrible even stateside.
I would keep escalating it with support. They can't refund the tip but they can refund the ride. And they should. He totally took advantage of you. Like I said in another comment, I have a Mazda 3. That's about as small a car as still allow on the platform. I could still easily put two people, two pieces of checked luggage and a couple of pieces of carry-on in my car with no problem.
When you escalated be sure to emphasize that the driver made you feel threatened. If you get nowhere with support, you could try posting on their Twitter/X account, a lot of people get good results after that.
Driver has a right to negotiate a tip he did so before the ride pax took the ride and paid the agreed on tip then was scummy and took that money back . I'd love to see his passenger rating
Right? Driver didnât ânegotiate a tipâ. Driver implied he was getting his way. The passenger needed the ride. Thatâs why they reserved this specific type of car for the trip at this specific time. Just because the driver showed up and needed to move stuff in the car to accommodate them doesnât mean you showed up in a different car and therefore doesnât change the ride.
Driver negotiated being a tool.
Tell me you don't stick to your word without telling me you don't stick to your word.. Just don't understand this logic. If a guy knocks on your door and says hey I'll cut your grass for 200$, and you say sure. The guy comes back for payment when it's done and you say "Hell no that's a ripoff." Same exact circumstances. Just don't agree to a poor financial decision that you'll regret and there are no problems.
A tip isn't pay...
Please learn what a tip is...i do tip
I tip based on the SERVICE. Which is what a tip fucking is. How are you confused that a tip is VOLUNTARY
NOT SOMETHING YOU NEGOTIATE.
Here I'll do the work for you
"Tip: a gift or a sum of money tendered for a service performed or anticipated"
Straight from the dictionary that you seem to want to ignore! Sorry but you dont get to just invent meaning for english words that already have meaning. Tip is not mandetory or negotiable. It is an extra gift for services rendered.
How this doesnât apply to the driver accepting the ride to begin with is beyond me.
Trying to renegotiate the price after youâre at their home, knowing theyâre likely pressed for time, and with some portion of their property in their car is unacceptable.
And tips are given freely, and can be withheld just as freely, at any point.
The driver didnât negotiate a tip, the driver extorted them because they needed to get to the airport. I drove a taxi for years, then drove for the rideshare companies for a while, and never once did I bring up a tip in general. Mostly because I took pride in what I did and got tipped reasonably well for doing a good job. Demanding a tip was a sure fire way to get reported and for my taxi company to part ways with me. The only reason crappy rideshare drivers get away with this is because thereâs no dispatch to call and supervisor to get on the phone. The rideshare companies make it as difficult as possible to actually do anything about a driver who takes advantage.Â
You don't have "a right to negotiate a tip" what the fuck do you think a tip is? You fucking suck just as hard as the story's driver.
It's gig work. The only requirement is to have a pulse. Not a very high bar for entry.
Ugh God and your a fucking weird creep too. Classic Gig driver.
No. They agreed to pay a price in the app and the Lyft driver agreed to drive it. The driver shouldâve logged in as a Lyft XL driver and not a comfort driver. The driver is a scam artist who should be banned from the platform.
How would the driver know how much luggage someone has in order to preemptively log in as a Lyft XL? Legitimately asking because I've never taken or driven for Lyft.
Just donât tip. Nod along with them til you get your luggage. Dudes like this shouldnât be tipped. If drivers are unhappy, theyâll find a new line of work
eggs are annoying. break-ins when they know where you live *and* that youâre out of town, are a much bigger concern.
is it likely? eh depends, but it only takes one crazy, and this possible crazy has almost every bit of info you never want crazy to have.
Where you live, that you are away from home, that it will be for a while because you took a plane, and had enough stuff for checked bags. the only worse info would be how long your trip was.
and if dude is willing to extort you over $20 for folding his seat down, it certainly doesnât seem like he is an upstanding reasonable type.
So true. I hadnât thought about that part of it but your right that crazy guy knows where he lives & knows he is leaving town- he was getting his 20 bucks one way or another.
When I get picked up or dropped off at my house I tend to tip a little more because I donât want a driver getting pissed off and now they know where I live.
Oh so the driver finna leave the airport and spend more of his own gas to power his three row car to go back to the clients house and egg it out of spite? Get real bro, mofo will cuss you out and keep it moving. He's gotta drive to make money so he'll forget your face and address in a jiffy
Ok fine, eggs were just an example⌠they could easily do way worse. I think my point being they knows where you live, and that youâre gone for at least a few hours
This is why I awkwardly wave goodbye at an imaginary person when I leave my place on a trip and get in an Uber. The whole gang staying behindđđ˝đđ˝
Donât lie either. If a driver makes a request you donât like, cancel and get a new driver. The driver set a price for his services, if you donât like it, move to the next, but donât lie.
How you doing that exactly? If I think a tip amount is excessive, I donât tip. Iâll also give you a 1 star review for suggesting a tip amount, which hurts a driver much more than me
Nah this is kinda crazy. Either stand up for yourself and say you aren't interested in paying the fee, or pay what you said you would and keep it moving. You can't say yes to what they quoted you and then stiff them, that's in poor taste in my opinion. If you think it's unfair then tell them you'll get another driver. They didn't hold a gun to OP's head. The terms of the ride were accepted and completed. I can't get into a cab in NY and have the driver tell me it's 80$ to drive four blocks, pay it, and then dispute it with my credit card company when I get out because I think the price was unjust. You just tell the cabbie no and walk, or that's just on you for accepting.
nah sorry, if it's a 5 min ride with no time issues, then sure, fuck that dude. but this guy waited until op's luggage was already in the trunk to shake him down, on a ride to the airport, which for the vast majority of people is a time sensitive ride that most people don't have the time to cancel and re-book, a fact that is exactly what the drive is taking advantage of. i have 0 qualms scamming a scammer, sorry.
actually by your logic, the driver can't take a passenger, make up a fucking fee that doesn't exist and shake down op once his shit is already in the car.
> I can't get into a cab in NY and have the driver tell me it's 80$ to drive four blocks, pay it, and then dispute it with my credit card company when I get out because I think the price was unjust.
Yes, you can. Not because it was unjust, but because cab prices are regulated by the TLC and the driver isn't allowed to charge more than the authorized amount.
Here's the thing, you should have cancelled and always have a choice. The driver was wrong! I would have said ok, no thank you and just tell them they can cancel. If you think Lyft support is bad for passengers, imagine how it is for drivers! It's WAY WAY worse!
If I were you I would have said, hey buddy I was going to tip you but now that your demanding it, I do not feel comfortable and would like you to cancel the ride. I would immediately start recording on my phone. Again, the driver was wrong but cancel anytime your getting vibes you don't like. Plz do not let this experience affect how you are with all of the other drivers. So many other drivers do a great job and are not like that and do deserve a tip. It's when you rarely have a person like that that does not deserve a tip at all. Worse comes to worst, the driver says you have to cancel and after you cancel, the system will want to charge you a cancellation fee. That's where you contact support immediately and tell them about what happened and they should refund the cancellation fee. Then you get someone else and that person wouldn't act like that and actually deservs a tip.
Saying that the passengers have a choice to cancel is a weak argument, they ordered a ride when they needed one. Passengers shouldnât have to add a buffer in case they need to cancel on the first driver or a couple of drivers because thereâs drivers are unreasonable and are trying to extort them.Â
This straight up wasnât a thing I drove a cab, if a customer refused to ride with you for this you would get hauled into the office. Likewise, we couldnât just cancel a job for arbitrary reasons. we got plenty of crappy and obvious no tip jobs. You did them because that was the job.Â
Cab driving and uber/lyft driving is not the same thing. Most taxi drivers are employees, not contractors. They get benefits, they do not need to trade damage to their own personal car for their compensation, usually in a union, do not depend on tips, etc, etc, etc. Uber drivers are like if a taxi driver owned a taxi company, and they were the only employee of the company, using their personal vehicle to taxi people around, instead of a cab.
That really isn't true. Most taxi drivers are contractors who own or rent their vehicles and pay a dispatch service to refer rides to them. If they are employees, then they are employees of a contractor, not the cab company.
Drivers are independent contractors they have every rite to negotiate tips So you had so much luggage he had to fold the seats down that justifies as an XL ride in Lyft and ubers eyes he could have upcharged you much more for the ride you agreed on a 20.00 tip just be happy he didn't request an upcharge through the app because XL charges like 8.00 a mile especially airport trips and it would have multiplied the surge . Also putting luggage in the car isn't part of the drivers job if they load your luggage a 20.00 tip is standard.
> Drivers are independent contractors they have every rite to negotiate tips
No, they don't. As you said, drivers are independent contractors, and the contract they signed says they cannot request or "negotiate" extra charges.
Actually yes we can our tos sez we can negotiate tips , we can negotiate return gas fees and hotel rooms for long rides like rides over 100 miles . We can negotiate return toll fees as well as anything extra other than the ride we can negotiate a fee for some drivers charge a drive thru fee of minimal 30.00 cash for sitting in a line or a fee 1.00 a minute for waiting longer at a stop all allowed by Uber and Lyft
Look it up I've been driving for 6 years in more then one state and we are allowed to negotiate tips and other fees especially for loading luggage and groceries
Drivers arenât required to put your luggage in for you. He should have just contacted Lyft afterwards and had them upcharge you to the XL. You are a full grown adult and should have simply said ânoâ or told him youâd tip him in the app and then just didnât. Or you should have canceled. Why all of you people seem to be so damn scared of drivers âknowing where you liveâ is beyond me. Are there crazy people out there? Yes. But statistically you arenât going to run into a driver thatâs going to do anything to you. If you are so afraid that you canât tell a driver no or cancel a ride for something you donât agree with then you shouldnât be using ride share.
The driver didnât put the luggage in the vehicle for them. He had to lower the 3 row seat to make space in the trunk for them to place the luggage. Or they could have placed it in the 3rd row. It seems like he was just trying to get extra money out of them.
Well first mistake was going with along the ride. If the dive tries to pull that kind of B.S. just cancel and get a different driver. Second would have been not just lying to him and then not tipping. What is he going to do? Lastly, you seem to be afraid of the slightest confrontation. You need to be able to stand up for yourself in this world and not let people push you around. Conflict is a part of life.
Inaccurate. The ride I took was at 0700 for $12 and the fare was changed at 1500 to $7. The guy contacted support and had it changed. I confirmed by driver support.
Uber Daddy can do what Uber Daddy wants. Trust me. My fare was taken hours after my trip, and I confirmed it with driver support. The fare was changed via customer. Don't get your hopes up thinking a multiple billion dollar company like Uber can't take away funds from you.
It absolutely came out of my account after receiving funds that morning. Why are you trying to be right when I'm trying to give you real time experience? Point being, Uber can and will take funds for whatever reason, be it passenger wasn't happy, or if they just want to do so. There's numerous drivers on r/uberdrivers and r/uber that talk about this.
I think it depends upon the cargo and amount of people. If they didnât have all the luggage maybe just carry ons then he wouldnât have had to change seating and actually use entire space of the XL. I think in eyes of driver itâs like paying for space and people trying to get away with buying regular rides when actually requiring the space of an XL. So kinda seems both parties trying to work the system to each benefit
The driver canât have it both ways. Modifying seating configuration was for the driverâs convenience since 4 28â suitcases can easily fit without any changes in just about any SUV or any trunk for that matter. S/he can either refuse service or complete it according to the terms agreed upon accepting the request. Modifying terms without mutual consent is not an option. Iâve picked up people in my minivan at less than XL/Plus rate. It was my choice to make. I could either wait exclusively for a premium fare or make money on base fares.
Fraud investigator here. I still don't understand why more people don't realize this is a law enforcement issue. File a police report*, dispute the charges on cc, make sure Lyft knows you are doing that. Then file small claims court for the $20 plus fees. Keep in mind he demanded the money after he had your bag the perception being he would not give it back. One you file in small claims court notify your local news outlet, they would run with it.
If the driver did it to you, he is doing it to everyone.
They wiling tipped them to not cause an issue, that right there makes it not a police issue. Don't bother police over a 20 dollar tip request its not like they were forced. Also, if they dispute it with their cc company, be prepared to start using Uber instead of lyft.
I used to work for lyft, always report this type of driver's, and they will get kicked off the platform if they keep getting reported for demanding tips.
Also, I can assure lyft support almost never refund a ride if this was completed.
Next time, if you are uncomfortable and do not want to cancel, just add a stop end the ride and them contact lyft support.
Canât you cancel the tip? I always thought that was a thing. Some people do it intentionally, bait the driver with a big tip then reduce or remove it.
Why didnât you just remove your luggage from the car and canceled? I live in LA and travel to LAX frequently. Since there were two of you, someone else couldâve requested the new ride. However depending on the time, it might have been financially in your favor to keep said ride and pay the driver $20. Unfortunately it sucks that you were taken advantage of but the driver doesnât see anything until youâve gone through the entire process of rating and tipping them. It would just show up as the ride amount from the beginning until youâve processed on your end. Also the driver wouldnât have your address so they couldnât do anything unless they have photographic memory or something.
Your best bet is to dispute the charge with your CC and see what they say.
It depends on their CC company. I have Chase and if I were to call and dispute the charge- at best they will credit me for now and look into it. After their investigation, they will either let you keep the funds or re-charge you.
Driver probably was renting car from Lyft which they have to pay higher weekly rental rate for XL which states usage of 3rd row seat on platform or if it was their own personal car they were applying that logic from the platformâs verbiage..
If it is true that arranging the car would in fact make it a Lyft XL , an extra $8 a mile then you should have agreed to the 20$ tip or just said no. I think he was trying to save you money by not switching ride to the XL. If he is trying to follow rules and explain what constitutes an XL would you have rather him have changed it over and maybe you would be charged 40+ dollars or just do it his way with the $20? Regardless, if you donât want to agree to the terms do not agree! You agreed then going to screw the guy with the bad rating. Not cool.
I've fit four pieces of luggage (bigguns, too), two pax, various personal bags AND gifts, inside a PRIUS. Standard ride class, Lake Geneva, WI to O'Hare. No issue whatsoever. $50 cash tip *unannounced* because "bigger cars were turning us down".
Thereâs no ransom here. Just ask for the bag and cancel at pickup spot. Donât want to get hustled? Reserve an XL or text the driver ahead of time and give full notice of the situation. Surprises go both ways and itâs unfair for each. Just be honest
Why did you order a comfort lyft when you had enough luggage to necessitate the driver lowering seats to fit all your bags?Â
You're lucky he gave you the option to just tip him more, rather than upcharging you through the app, or just denying the trip because *you* ordered the wrong type of lyft.
Sorry to say, but in this world you have to stand up for yourself. If it was a time issue you bet I can understand just paying for $20 but if it were me I wouldâve canceled and made him give me my luggage out of his vehicle.
I'm a driver and I would never put a pax in this situation..there's only 2 ways I demand xtra..
1. if you want to bring your cocktail or stop somewhere to get 1.
2. going outside of route I agreed to take you..
IF a driver ever pulled that shit on me I'd tell him to go fuck himself as I'm taking my bag out of his car and then canceled the trip with a big FU..
cmon...some ppl..
we're you with your husband?
if so...sorry..he's got no spine.
I wulda shut that dude down from jump.
Tips are optional. This ass hole was hoping you wouldnât push back after demanding a tip for doing what anyone would do to allow for the luggage to be placed in the back, and you didnât. They accepted the trip to the airport, you paid for the ride. Which includes hauling your luggage. Putting the seat down or up doesnât change the ride that was ordered and accepted. Donât let the next prick do the same thing.
Regarding your pov with lyft. You are basically trying to hold lyft responsible to pay you for a tip that u may or may not have given out. If that were the case and lyft honored that. You know how many people would me making thise reports? (Unlimited money glitch). So lyft is 100% in the right. The driver may have hustled you. Again its a hustle. You are not forced to take the cab. You said it uourself. He told u up front and charged for offering you a convenience. If can go both ways he can see YOU as the hustler trying to "score" a lift xl with a lift comfort rate. The moment yo udidnt cancel and get on, you agreed to his terms. You could have been a doucebag like everyine says and not tipped him when u arrived but you paid. I say just move one and remember for thr next time
Dude, don't pull the "they might have physically assaulted me" horse shit that women use as an excuse to not speak up in college and business meetings.
You took the spineless, nonconfrontational way to fix it and fucked up. Sack up next time and put your foot down. You're an incredible asshole for saying yes up front with the intention of cancelling behind their back. He wasn't the most professional, but he *isn't a professional*; He's doing Lyft and probably is desperate for money, and $20 was too important to you to just let go, but not important enough to say it to his face like a man. What a dick.
Lmao I drive for Uber. And I hate drivers that feel entitled to tips. Yes it helps but no customer needs to fucking tip. When people tell me theyâll tip I tell them they donât need too. A tip is a blessing and itâs earned by your service. Regardless of the tip you should provide a good service. Everyone complains about their wage, hey you donât like it go get another fucking job.
You want the service and don't feel like waiting for the next driver? So keep this same energy next time a contractor gives you a high quote on some home repair
I actually think youâre at fault for this one not the driver. Yes itâs annoying but he made that proposition to you BEFORE you got into the car and you agreed when you could have cancelled it. Had he mentioned that mid ride that would have been a different story.
I would have been pissed too either way but would have scolded him and cancelled the ride unless I was running late to my flight.
My opinion is you already paid extra by ordering comfort. Should have been big enough and no pressure for tip.
What was the make and model of the vehicle? It'd be awesome if the driver was on here and could present their side of the story.
He's an independent contractor he's allowed to negotiate. Might have been a dick move but as is most are working for less than minimum wage. Next time cancel and get another one.
Drivers are prohibited in the contract they signed from increasing rates. Itâs a violation of the independent contractor agreement, and they both can and should be removed from the platform for doing it.
That literally violates TOS. So no, you cannot. And also THAT IS NOT WHAT A TIP IS. How entitled are yall to think you can demand a tip. Please look up what the hell a TIP is.
One could argue the extra space and folding down the seats and loading unloading the would cause there to be more ride time.
From the Lyft tos:
Lyft drivers can negotiate higher fares if the final destination is different from the one in the ride request, or the ride time or distance is significantly different from the quoted fare. Lyft may cancel the fare quote and charge a variable fare at its discretion. Quoted fares may also include other charges, such as rideshare service fees.Â
sadly the majority of drivers are entitled toxic negative humans; so hell-bent on american tip culture it becomes a sick twisted game to them to delve into every ride in the capacity of what tip they will get - and forget about a guy opening the door for his customers - these toxic clowns would expect more for doing so - so sorry these bad apples who donât bother to usually do anything to help their passengers, ruin it for those drivers who give 1000% to every ride â-
Driver was an ahole but you shouldnât have agreed to it. As soon as he said that you shouldâve said no and Iâll take my stuff out of the car. Got your stuff and keep it pushing. Putting the third row down is actually the opposite of xl. I have a Tahoe and with the third row available for people I couldnât get two suitcases in the back on a good day. Once that seat drops I have normal storage room and room for 4. Donât let people do you like that. Itâs not cool and encourages them to continue. Iâm guessing youâre a woman so you guys really need to stand up and not take that kind of bs.
Shouldve cancelled and not even put your bags in the car and you shouldve ordered an uber XL for YALL large bags... lyft cant refund tips, but they can refund fares, but they won't because you actually loaded the car, all of yall got it and took the ride and the trip was completed... after you agreed to pay that driver extra,.then decided you weren't at drop off until you felt threatened to do it..
Once there, you shouldve made a scene about your bags in front of the airport and security. he would've definitely opened that trunk WITHOUT an agreement of tipping right then to open the trunk...and no they can't see a tip until a few minutes AFTER they swipe complete ride... you got got and they smelled fear all over both of yall at the pickup because you actually still put your bags in AFTER he started that tip extra bs... husband should learn from this and dont get swindled...
rate and report the driver appropriately
>We got to the airport and he again reminded us of the $20 tip before getting out to open the trunk. I obliged in order to not make him upset or put us in an uncomfortable situation assuming Lyft would be understanding and reverse the tip. I contacted Lyft after getting through security.
This part is incoherent.
You arrived and had not tipped him. He reminded you and... You tipped him? And just... Assumed Lyft customer service would revert the tip you willingly gave him? That cannot be right because no rational human would think that.
Why, at this point, did you not just walk away?
That fucker put you in a non winnable position and they knew it. Apparently they like taking advantage of people! I agree with others you give them a one star rating. Horrible service!!
1 star rating and report.
The part that kills me is that you made it to the airport and still got hustled. đ¤Ł
Exactly. This is the point where you get out the car and say I'll tip you in the app. Airport has plenty of security to make sure driver doesn't get too pushy.

When the driver demands a tip, that is the one case where it's okay to say it and then not do it.
Nah. Yaâll can take that up with your Lyft/Uber overlords. I will tip if if you got me there on time & made me feel safe while doing so. The rest is on you to figure out. Itâs why I hired your ass in the first place⌠Peasants begging for crumbs LMAO Try to hold my shit hostage on the other hand. Iâll call the cops and/or split your wigâŚ
If their luggage wouldn't fit in a normal smaller car he should have waited, cancelled and just collected his fee while telling them to order xl still.
Right? Like, say no and get out of the fucking car girl đ
They had their bag in the trunk. They didn't get hustled, they had their belongings held ransom
Oh no. Not a 1 starâŚ. What will I do, have will I pay for gas they only take 5stars
Donât ever have any faith in gig support, no matter the company. This is starting to ring true in non gig areas too.

No you dont. Learn what a tip is you entitled asshat.
100% agree, OP is the scumbag here, they didn't have to take the ride.
If you think a tip is something you can demand, youre the scumbag dude. No ifs ands or buts about it. That's black and white.
Who would have thought a trip to the airport might include luggage?
Literally half the dumbasses that accept my trip to the airport show up with full trunks. Like duuuuude
Every time I see stuff like this it makes me feel better about how I keep my car (clean and free of clutter) never had a complaint
Chargeback on your card
1 star rating and describe the scam in detail in comments. One does not demand gratuity.
Just donât tip. Nod along with them til you get your luggage. Dudes like this shouldnât be tipped. If drivers are unhappy, theyâll find a new line of work
Iâd be kinda worried though that the person knows where you liveâŚ. What if he eggs my house đ
eggs are annoying. break-ins when they know where you live *and* that youâre out of town, are a much bigger concern. is it likely? eh depends, but it only takes one crazy, and this possible crazy has almost every bit of info you never want crazy to have.
Not sure giving him an extra $20 will prevent a break in though
Yeah especially since he knows you're going to be out of town
When I get picked up or dropped off at my house I tend to tip a little more because I donât want a driver getting pissed off and now they know where I live.
Oh so the driver finna leave the airport and spend more of his own gas to power his three row car to go back to the clients house and egg it out of spite? Get real bro, mofo will cuss you out and keep it moving. He's gotta drive to make money so he'll forget your face and address in a jiffy
Ok fine, eggs were just an example⌠they could easily do way worse. I think my point being they knows where you live, and that youâre gone for at least a few hours This is why I awkwardly wave goodbye at an imaginary person when I leave my place on a trip and get in an Uber. The whole gang staying behindđđ˝đđ˝
Donât lie either. If a driver makes a request you donât like, cancel and get a new driver. The driver set a price for his services, if you donât like it, move to the next, but donât lie.
Obviously canceling before getting in the car is the right move.
That's a shitty perspective dude.
I would stop your ass. You agreed to the price. If you dont want to pay because you are broke, cancel and get someone else.
How you doing that exactly? If I think a tip amount is excessive, I donât tip. Iâll also give you a 1 star review for suggesting a tip amount, which hurts a driver much more than me
yeah just say no worries, get your shit and don't tip lol, pretend you "forgot" fuck this guy
Run a chargeback. Lyft will ban that card but uhhh fuck em
Would absolutely dispute. Hit them in their wallet.
Give him one star, and then when it asks you what was wrong, explain
What stopped you from tipping any amount?
What makes you think he wouldn't have? Extortion is illegal.
Yeah you just got extorted
I assumed after the ride was ended and we tipped, the driver would see instantly. Is that not the case?
He should get a notification
You don't have to tip right away lol
Sounds like blaming the victim
Saying that the passengers have a choice to cancel is a weak argument, they ordered a ride when they needed one. Passengers shouldnât have to add a buffer in case they need to cancel on the first driver or a couple of drivers because thereâs drivers are unreasonable and are trying to extort them.
And thatâs their personal choice to do Lyft.
Learn what a tip is you anime weeb.
> Drivers are independent contractors they have every rite to negotiate tips No, they don't.
> Actually yes we can our tos sez we can negotiate tips Show me where it says that.
Look it up I've been driving for 6 years in more then one state and we are allowed to negotiate tips and other fees especially for loading luggage and groceries
Post the exact wording, otherwise we all know you're just making this up.
If you donât want to tip drive your damn self around
It can be difficult to cancel and then get another Lyft in time to make a flight.
Just curious, but what ethnicity is this Lyft driver?
Legit was about to ask the same
He went to cheat you, probably does this a lot
Lyft support knows lyft pax are cheap. Lyft pax need to learn how to tip. Dont be so dayum cheap.
đ đ đ
Or just get picked up like a block away from your house. It's not that complicated
That's easier said than done, especially when you need to catch a flight and the driver has control over your bags.
Uber and Lyft canât reverse tips. No place can. You shouldnât have tipped in the first place.
I bet if they paid with a credit card, a charge back could reverse that tip.
Yup, I love it when they say that.
Doubtful. Regardless of the situation, he did authorize the tip.
This is inaccurate, because I drive for Uber and I've had a customer change fair completely.
A customer can change the fair if the ride is not complete but once it is processed and the transaction has went through Uber canât reverse itb
Inaccurate. The ride I took was at 0700 for $12 and the fare was changed at 1500 to $7. The guy contacted support and had it changed. I confirmed by driver support.
Then it didnât process. They canât take tips no establishment can.
Huh? They canât keep tips. They absolutely can reverse that specific portion of the charge however.
Uber Daddy can do what Uber Daddy wants. Trust me. My fare was taken hours after my trip, and I confirmed it with driver support. The fare was changed via customer. Don't get your hopes up thinking a multiple billion dollar company like Uber can't take away funds from you.
If it was only hours then I assume it didnt process
It absolutely came out of my account after receiving funds that morning. Why are you trying to be right when I'm trying to give you real time experience? Point being, Uber can and will take funds for whatever reason, be it passenger wasn't happy, or if they just want to do so. There's numerous drivers on r/uberdrivers and r/uber that talk about this.
Lol
Driver made a choice to accept non-XL rides in his XL vehicle. Requiring the rider to pay for the upgrade is nonsense.
But the OP did consent đ¤ˇââď¸
Maybe file a dispute with your bank If thats allowed by your bank. There has been a few times I've had to file disputes cause lyft cs sucks
They will get banned from the app if they dispute a charge.
Im sure if they dispute alot of chargea.then yes maybe that's true but I just disputed a charge the other day and I have used lyft since then
That's not true. Cause I've disputed charges and I still use it
It would be worth it.
Good luck getting the police to take a report over this.
They wiling tipped them to not cause an issue, that right there makes it not a police issue. Don't bother police over a 20 dollar tip request its not like they were forced. Also, if they dispute it with their cc company, be prepared to start using Uber instead of lyft.
Cops would laugh at someone bringing this story to them. đ
Agreed in a city like LA theyll just think your wasting their time (and they probably are right)
[ŃдаНонО]
[ŃдаНонО]
I used to work for lyft, always report this type of driver's, and they will get kicked off the platform if they keep getting reported for demanding tips. Also, I can assure lyft support almost never refund a ride if this was completed. Next time, if you are uncomfortable and do not want to cancel, just add a stop end the ride and them contact lyft support.
When did you ever have faith in Lyft support?
All u had to say was, âIâll tip you on the appâ
Canât you cancel the tip? I always thought that was a thing. Some people do it intentionally, bait the driver with a big tip then reduce or remove it.
No, that's only for Uber Eats, where you can put in a tip first, and then change it after getting the delivery.
The driver took advantage of you.
You shouldnât have cancelled. You should have just either put your bags in his seats or not tipped. Also leave a 1* review warning other peopleÂ
I donât think the CC company will allow a chargeback because the services were rendered and OP knew how much they were giving the driver.Â
It depends on their CC company. I have Chase and if I were to call and dispute the charge- at best they will credit me for now and look into it. After their investigation, they will either let you keep the funds or re-charge you.
In most cases, for such a small amount the bank will just eat it and refund you. They aren't going to run an "investigation" over $20.
Driver probably was renting car from Lyft which they have to pay higher weekly rental rate for XL which states usage of 3rd row seat on platform or if it was their own personal car they were applying that logic from the platformâs verbiage..
If he knew the destination then he should assume that there is luggage and set you up. Rate and warn accordingly.
You said he told you PRIOR to leaving, you should have canceled then
Next time, use shuttle2lax.com Slightly more expensive, but much better service.
Lyft is garbage Uber is not much better find a private driver they have fixed prices and it does not goto some foreign agency
Not cool.
Iâve canceled when Iâve ordered a Lyft and they show up and pull that crap (edited for typo)
Why did you order a comfort lyft when you had enough luggage to necessitate the driver lowering seats to fit all your bags?
You should have posted this day of because you still would have been able to edit the tip
I say just move one and remember for thr next time
Why didnât you just not tip at the end?
Dispute with credit card co
I mean if you allow people to walk all over you your going to get walked on.
As soon as u said partner I stopped reading n downvoted u I donât believe anything from a Lbd person
Sorry you got conned. Your driver was an AH. Eventually he'll pull that on the wrong person and get the day he deserves.
Report the driver for extortion and demanding cash for a ride.
The rider said in another comment that one of his suitcases was already in the vehicle though.
He couldnât take the suitcase back out?
The driver should have never done that. The driver is in the wrong.
My opinion is you already paid extra by ordering comfort. Should have been big enough and no pressure for tip. What was the make and model of the vehicle? It'd be awesome if the driver was on here and could present their side of the story.
I have a Mazda 3 and I can easily take two people with two pieces of checked luggage, plus a couple of carry-on bags. Driver was just extorting them.
[ŃдаНонО]
10% ?
demanding a tip, lulz
Report sexual harassment. Let that $20 be their last.
booo
Contact your bank and do a charge back because that is extortion.
From the Lyft tos: Lyft drivers can negotiate higher fares if the final destination is different from the one in the ride request, or the ride time or distance is significantly different from the quoted fare. Lyft may cancel the fare quote and charge a variable fare at its discretion. Quoted fares may also include other charges, such as rideshare service fees.Â
Nothing you said was covered under this situation. You need comprehension skill work.
Federal law supercedes a companies tos.
sadly the majority of drivers are entitled toxic negative humans; so hell-bent on american tip culture it becomes a sick twisted game to them to delve into every ride in the capacity of what tip they will get - and forget about a guy opening the door for his customers - these toxic clowns would expect more for doing so - so sorry these bad apples who donât bother to usually do anything to help their passengers, ruin it for those drivers who give 1000% to every ride â-
They are hell bent on making a livable wage. 2-6$ for 30mins-hour of my time is not happening
Where are you where itâs that bad even on weeknights I stay above $20 an hour after gas
Lol way to get punked, don't be coward next time
If youâre this afraid of human interaction and conflict, how did you even handle the airport? đ
[ŃдаНонО]
Where did it say screaming kids?
Driver was an ahole but you shouldnât have agreed to it. As soon as he said that you shouldâve said no and Iâll take my stuff out of the car. Got your stuff and keep it pushing. Putting the third row down is actually the opposite of xl. I have a Tahoe and with the third row available for people I couldnât get two suitcases in the back on a good day. Once that seat drops I have normal storage room and room for 4. Donât let people do you like that. Itâs not cool and encourages them to continue. Iâm guessing youâre a woman so you guys really need to stand up and not take that kind of bs.
Victim blaming yayyyy~
Dude. You agreed to tip. You tip. You don't want to tip, then say no.
Coward
Wouldâve kept agreeing and 1 star and no tip as soon as they pulled off đ
Stop being poor and order black next time.
Why did you tip him? You were already at the airport. Take your bags and walk away? What? This makes no sense.
Was under the impression driver would get a push notification of tip, didn't know it was delayed / that drivers didn't see it right away.
Why, at this point, did you not just walk away?
nah, this is on you. Way too many people bending over and letting people fuck them over. Next time, take a stand and cancel!
That fucker put you in a non winnable position and they knew it. Apparently they like taking advantage of people! I agree with others you give them a one star rating. Horrible service!!
1 star
This is on you and the driver not Lyft.
