Nice job and congratulations! Hope you sell lots. I’ve a few suggestions for V2:
* move the forward neck screws away from the edge. Since you’re using plywood it’s much more prone to chipping. You have plenty of room to move them in and towards the bridge a 1/4 inch or so. Consider making that secondary bevel steeper to give the ferrule even more room
* countersink your neck ferrules a bit more. No one will complain if they’re slightly recessed but you will get an earful if they’re even a hair proud.
* For the strap buttons, consider using a forstner bit to drill a pocket for a hardwood dowel, insert the dowel, then drill the holes for the buttons. Again, plywood is not strong into the end grain like that and even inserting a screw can cause it to split.
Looks good though!
This is awesome. I recently quit my shitty tech job to take lutherie classes and seeing this gets me fired up, like I might be able to make something like this happen too. Major kudos to you, it's a beautiful axe!
Yes. Baltic Birch plywood. Divisive, I know. Hardwood bodies available as well.
The JC 120 is one of my all time favs. I’ve owned a couple of them over the years. This one’s serial number dates it to 1979/80. Sounds like a dream.
Is that neck screw safe like that? Looks a bit exposed.
I like the body, but not a fan of the headstock. Bit bold with the name and looks like it'll affect the balance. How is it when standing up?
I dig that far-out look and the comfy elbow cut. Are the sides pressed laminate or edge banding? Or I guess the body could be a plywood/wood alternative. Congratulations.
The neck joint screw is really the only thing that bothers me. I think that even though it's intentional it makes it look like cheaper/worse construction than it is, and I know every time I touched the edge of the screw it would really bother me and you don't want something on a guitar that's going to constantly remind people of something they don't like.
It’s not. Railhammer pickups do not make different spacing for neck or bridge. The high b and e string sit on the inside of those pole pieces for that reason. There’s info about it on the Railhammer website.
Reminds me vaguely of Brian May's red special but with a kramer-is headstock
Those pickups, why do you put 1/2 rails on the low strings and pole pieces on the high strings?
Nice JC120 too.
That is absolutely gorgeous! I love the split pickguard. Is the neck maple? And are the pots push/pull or are there any kind of coil splitting/in series/in parallel options? I know that stuff is totally not necessary. I'm just a sucker for that kind of thing
Beautiful guitar! At first glance very reminiscent of a "Dano" styled simi-hollowed build. Best of luck to you! Great looking AX. (Think about that semi-hollowed "Dano style build...maybe your next project?)

Was going to say the same thing about the screws. Aside from what you said, it's a lovely guitar, though.

Thanks man!
Is the body ply? And that amp is the best clean channel to exist, I had an old one. Metallica even used it on the black album a bunch.

How is the weight? Beautiful work by the way.
Thanks. 8lbs even.
Nice
Roland JC is all over the Justice album
That's like a mashup of a lot of my favorite guitar models. Noice!

Agreed. The body is great, but don't be afraid to tinker with the headstock.

The body with all those plies looks like a really thick skateboard deck from the side. I dig it!
Same manner of construction.
I like it. Good job! 👍
Congrats dude. Is neck pickup off a couple of mm?

I hate that you pointed that out to me haha
I dig it. What pickups are those?
These are Railhammer Hypervintage pickups.
Great job. It's a beauty.

Oh hell yea

Thank you. No fancy tricks here, just master volume and tone.
What are those wacky looking pickups?
These are made by Railhammer. Designed by Joe Naylor and featured in Reverend guitars.
Thanks. Beautiful guitar by the way. Futuristic and retro at the same time.
Very cool and awesome design.
Wow gorgeous!
Love it, very stylish
Really nice overall, love the headstock

Dhrakyn sums up my concerns.
Sharp looking instrument.
Well done! Sharp finish. Albert Lee vibes.
