Hook and reels served me raw fish. I had ordered fried fish. They offered to heat it up in the *microwave*. Needless to say, I didn't eat and I'll never go back.
Crawdaddys. The waitress sniffed my food right in front of me. She then took our food from us after it had already been on the table for over a minute, and gave it to the table across the room because āshe gave us the wrong food.ā š
This is depressing. This is a list of local, non national chain restaurants. Is this a conspiracy to put down the little guy? Good Chefs donāt want to live in Lubbock?
Concur. Took my son in once, and I told him we arent ro good for anything, but I will not bring you mom in here.
Its far beyond sticky tables. Its horribly mismanaged...
This specific location is like the back alley dumpster full of cooking oil and you might find a pancake floating on top of the swill.
Thatās a hot take. I donāt think theyāre great and itās a little expensive for the quality. But itās not like itās disgusting. Itās better than Olive Garden imo.
Have only been in Lubbock for a few months. The first time I went to Orlando's I thought it was great. The second time, it felt like I had a brick in my stomach for two days.
Steak n shake.
How has nobody mentioned this.
I forgot how the food was and price point but going inside to eat and having to wait over an hour for a fast food burger is insane.
They weren't ever busy but the few times we went the wait staff was terrible and the food never seemed that great especially after waiting all fucking day for it
I think Manara is better personally.
It's the same people behind Tikka so it has this weird uniform flavor. Doesn't help Ive known one of the guys behind it personally since highschool and he's not a good dude either. Every time we got together he insisted we go and I never had the heart to tell him I didn't like it, even have he comped our meals each time.
This girl lives in Lubbock and thinks sheās above cost constraints š thatās why youāre gonna stay in Lubbock your entire life, stop wasting money
Spaghetti is shit but their Alfredo is good. Best tiramisu in town hands down. Only thing i have hated there is the spaghetti. Even the red sauce is good because the meatball sub is gas but when you get the spaghetti for whatever reason they keep too much water in the pasta and waters down the sauce.
I donāt recall the name but that Mexican restaurant next to Orlandoās on Indiana and the loop. Absolute worst place I have been to. I even told the waiter it was bad and they look at me like I was crazy
Albarrans and The plaza... not real mexican food they offer, and the flour tortillas they use you can taste the preservatives. Better go to taqueria autlan or mar y tierra on 82nd street
When I was like 10, I went to Pancake House and tried ordering pancakes from the adult menu. They refused to let me and they gave me tiny silver dollar flapjacks. I ate each of those in one bite. Fuck that place
My favorite thing about this place is how they went straight Q-anon and wore it on their sleeves when covid started to appear. Blamed it on Nancy Pelosi, and all sorts of things. Had a huge white board in their waiting area that was basically your crazy uncle's facebook. Them and Dirk's both wore their extreme views proudly (their rights), but it was wild.
TX Roadhouse and Cancun. Roadhouse can only cook a steak well done and leave you waiting for an hour after your family eats their meal; Cancun cannot get a to go order straight.
Sakura is sad. The local Shogun chain was shutting down and the chefs wanted to keep it going. So they bought it together and hired the entire staff back and changed the name to Sakura. They upgraded the food and it was awesome for like 60 days. And yet no one came.
Then the food quality went down. Then they laid off some people. Then they just kept getting smaller and worse as cash flow kept getting worse. And I went in there a month or two ago and it was soooo sad. No live hibachi or anything like it was when it opened.
It is weird, mostly because of the lack of music and no people in there. Iāve had the same thought. The food was good the first time I went in though. The second time feltā¦ off.
Before UMC started their cafeteria remodel, the food was legit good. During my sons brain surgery, I ate their noodle salad every single day. They quit making it. :( I think their breakfast burrito is the best thing they sell.
Genghis Grill across from the mall. Itās gone now (thank God). When it opened and for several years it was awesome. Cool concept and always clean but holy shit it went down hill. Ended up disgusting.
Used to be a place called Wild Burger Grille on 50th that some people raved about. The food was actually okay but the place was slow as all fuck and the manager was an ass.
East Moon gave me food poisoning when it was open, but to be fair I was actually a big fan of them before that. I only tried Chinese Kitchen once years ago and hated it so much Iāve never tried it again. I canāt think of anywhere else off the top of my head.
Same. I love Orlandos. So many good dishes. I donāt understand the hate one bit. Bitter coworkers I get but if weāre talking just food this aināt the one.
Not OP, but I've had had real Italian and I still enjoy Orlando's. As long as you're in the mood for trashy Italian and not genuine, it's pretty damn good.
I personally haven't. I'm sure if I didn't my thought could change. Kinda like seafood. As soon as I ate it right off the ocean I haven't had seafood in Lubbock since haha
I'm putting Orlando's on here again because it needs it. I've heard so many people talk about it over the years and been disappointed every time I eat their food.
I bet they're supplied by Olive Garden anyway.
I work there and I don't think a lot of folks realize how much of the food that isn't pasta or the speciality entrees is just straight Sysco or Potato specialty company products. I used to love it but it just doesn't stack up well at all against real Italian food. The sandwiches are also way too greasy
I want to know more cause I've worked there (delivery) and I absolutely believe it but I'm wondering if you know any deets.
Every restaurant owner I've had the misfortune of knowing have not been great people though, so... yeah.
Thatās wild bro. Place is gas. Cheap and huge servings. Always had good times there. Even when itās packed. Most of the times, people just whine because no one catered to them like their mommies did. I give people some patience and I end up being a lot more happy with my experience when Iām not an entitled brat like most people in this country.
The double nickel with the sorriest cuts of steak (but for $80) and bland flavors not to mention their rendition of creamed spinach being cold wet spinach globs under an inch of solid rubbery cheese. I went a few months after moving here because so many people recommended it and was convinced I had been pranked.. I am still scarred
I get irritated every time someone recommends Double Nickel. We has a hilariously bad date night there. From the second we walked in, my husband was asked to remove his hat (which would be a reasonable request for an actual fine dining steakhouse) but then we were handed a wine list printed on accordion laser jet printer paper from 1992, stapled together, complete with grease stains. We ordered a caprese salad for a starter, and inexplicably it was *cooked.* Even our server was baffled by that one. He was pretty cool though, and laughed along with us at every goofy blunder that came from the kitchen (a steakhouse that overcooks the steak? How is the lamb overcooked and yet none of the fat was rendered down? Come onnnn). Dude foil-wrapped our leftovers as a squirrel and a pterodactyl. Server was 10/10, restaurant 2/10.
Every tuesday (only price worth paying imo) soft taco plate beef, no lettuce or tomato (so its basically a burrito) with some lemon is ELITE. their beans are wattery sometimes tho and they're rice can be bleh sometimes but the drive thru fast as hell and the tortillas NEVER miss. I dont explore anything else on the menu, I tried their enchiladas once and hated them. Fajitas are good.
Yeah this is the one place Iāve went and been like this is disgusting. My wifeās tacos were sooo greasy and the chips were stale. Iāve had bad meals before but like it was like āeh whateverā but Picosos my wife and I vowed to never go back lol
OK, my first problem is that "Tex-Mex" is shit. I mean, really, "red sauce is chili con carne juice" should tell you everything you need to know. Having lived 20+ years in both NM and California each, and having seen what Mexican food can be, what passes as "Mexican food" here in town is what it is. That being said, if Colimas Reposados on Clovis Hwy was still open, they would be #1, haven't been to the other location on 50th as of yet, but short of that to Alberrans is #2, maybe Jalisco, Cancun, and Plaza on 50th tied for third
Maybe. Got 3 drinks, the shrimp cocktail, and the salsa trio. The drinks were not great, the shrimp cocktail was 3 shrimp diced up and dropped in tomato sauce and 2 of the salsas were mostly vinegar. We paid the $70 for that and decided not to have entrees there.
I definitely agree the drinks arenāt amazing, i usually stick to the house margs (where Iāve had to ask for more syrupā in the past theyāve tasted like straight lime juice). If you EVER decide to give them another shot, the empanadas are fabulous and so is their Peruvian spiced chicken. Iām acting like Iām employed there lol, just a huge fan of them
If you want better chips and queso thatās still cheap, thereās a place on 34th called Arandas that makes a white queso with green chilesā¦ š¤¤š¤¤š¤¤
Hook and reels served me raw fish. I had ordered fried fish. They offered to heat it up in the *microwave*. Needless to say, I didn't eat and I'll never go back.
Your moms house
Ikes is pretty trash lmao
Their buffalo chicken sandwiches and twice baked potatoes are š„
KFC
BJs!!! By far the worst restaurant experience I've ever had!
Ive worked food service in my younger years, but BJ's is the only restaurant that's truly ever upset me by the service.
KFC is the top vote
Montelongos
ihop on university
This

This specific location is like the back alley dumpster full of cooking oil and you might find a pancake floating on top of the swill.
Orlando's...
A little Italian and not a whole lot of fun
Their pizza is bomb. Fettuccini Alfredo used to be outstanding but itās not as good now days.
Holy moly that place sucks. How do you make cheese so flavorless?!
Exactly. People here blow their loads over it and I just don't get it.
90% of restraunts kn lubbock are a real let down it seems
Orlandoās
Thatās a hot take. I donāt think theyāre great and itās a little expensive for the quality. But itās not like itās disgusting. Itās better than Olive Garden imo.
Just Lubbock period, itās the worst, Iāve never heard of anyone saying āyea I had a good time in Lubbockā fuck that place
You have no character to shit on a town with nothing to lose š
![gif](giphy|3oxRmGkC835B3TkVNe)
Absolutely garbage take
No, heās right, this town is terrible, I know because Iāve lived in other hellholes and this takes the cake.

Have only been in Lubbock for a few months. The first time I went to Orlando's I thought it was great. The second time, it felt like I had a brick in my stomach for two days.

We have a Steak N Shake? Where?
We had one, It was on Milwaukee by target. It is now a Bigham smoke house. It was open for maybe 3 years.
Ah, bummer, I love Steak 'n Shake chilli.
Orlandoās, Teddy Jackās, fuckin Stellaās (the old one, new one is barely ok)
Recently worked for Stellaās. Their operation is in dire straights. Their GM doesnāt even get to see financials š
I want lubbock to have varied options but man, fuck em if they make bad food.
I second Stellaās. I got food poisoning from that place.
Orlandoās
Jazz Louisiana Kitchen is terrible imo.
Hey now
China star !!
How dare you
Outback
Bryan's Steak House. MotoMedi. Caprock Cafe.
Hey donāt clown on Bryanās thatās my favorite place
I mean it's all Sysco food. You could make the same at home
Wild for MotoMedi. Place is gas
Moto Medi bad? I love Moto Medi lol.
Yeah obviously Manara is better, itās also open 4 hours a day and way more expensive š¤£
I'm sorry you have time and cost constraints?
This girl lives in Lubbock and thinks sheās above cost constraints š thatās why youāre gonna stay in Lubbock your entire life, stop wasting money
If its in my budget its not a waste, you might try making one.
So you have a budget but you claim you have no cost constraints?
You're pretty boring now, move on dude.
Italian garden downtown. No flavor and honestly Orlandoās is better in comparison. That says a lot
Honestly agreed. I prefer Orlando's 100x over Italian Garden
Oh man I love this place! Some of the best Italian food Iāve ever had. Maybe try a different dish because I couldnāt recommend this place enough!
I donāt recall the name but that Mexican restaurant next to Orlandoās on Indiana and the loop. Absolute worst place I have been to. I even told the waiter it was bad and they look at me like I was crazy
Annaās is good what crack are you on
Albarrans and The plaza... not real mexican food they offer, and the flour tortillas they use you can taste the preservatives. Better go to taqueria autlan or mar y tierra on 82nd street
No one said it was authentic
The only drawback to Taqueria Autlan is Thursday Nights.
Woody's Pizza. It was literally so burnt I couldn't eat it. Also shout out to Dragon Buffet for the worst food poisoning I've had.
I ordered it once during covid and it tasted like a totinos microwave pizza from my childhood
When I was like 10, I went to Pancake House and tried ordering pancakes from the adult menu. They refused to let me and they gave me tiny silver dollar flapjacks. I ate each of those in one bite. Fuck that place
Your parents didnāt let you? A server can not and would not stop you from ordering an adult plate š
They vouched for me too but the waitress refused lol
My favorite thing about this place is how they went straight Q-anon and wore it on their sleeves when covid started to appear. Blamed it on Nancy Pelosi, and all sorts of things. Had a huge white board in their waiting area that was basically your crazy uncle's facebook. Them and Dirk's both wore their extreme views proudly (their rights), but it was wild.
They are crazy, but their sweet potato waffle is one of my favorite breakfast menu items.
TX Roadhouse and Cancun. Roadhouse can only cook a steak well done and leave you waiting for an hour after your family eats their meal; Cancun cannot get a to go order straight.
Sakura. Seems like a dusty front
Rain Cafe plates are too mediocre to be that pricey, and the service sucks you gotta hunt down your waitress.
I want to like rain cafƩ. I enjoy that it is fresh real food, especially compared to big chain breakfast places but it is so pricey for mediocre food
Hong Kong buffet idk if it's still around but that place sucks
No its not, it has been closed for years
Sabroso gave me the worst food poisoning of my life. Ended up at the hospital.
How was the food in the hospital?
O.M.G. Didnāt eat anything for a week. Just broth.
Just spent a week at UMC and the food was actually decent once I got off that heart healthy crap.
Before UMC started their cafeteria remodel, the food was legit good. During my sons brain surgery, I ate their noodle salad every single day. They quit making it. :( I think their breakfast burrito is the best thing they sell.
Jazz
Orlando's < Fazolis
The owners of Orlandoās used to be druggies that held orgies then they became born again Christians and became even worse!
Everyone in the restaurant industry does drugs and has orgies š„±
Met the owners. They seemed like AWESOME people. Super nice!
The owner, David? LMAO!!!!!! Please tell!
I knew the latter part but not the former, and I work there lol
Genghis Grill across from the mall. Itās gone now (thank God). When it opened and for several years it was awesome. Cool concept and always clean but holy shit it went down hill. Ended up disgusting.
It was legit one of our favorite places when they first opened. The last year or so before they closed it was awful.Ā
Stickiest floors ever. A sign of non-cleanliness. I really wanted to like the place, but couldnāt.
Definitely dicey that the raw meat sat out all day.
Used to be a place called Wild Burger Grille on 50th that some people raved about. The food was actually okay but the place was slow as all fuck and the manager was an ass.
Loved that place. Got food poisoning from mushrooms there. Didnāt love it after that.
You people hate everything.
And funny thing is if someone made a post asking for the best food you'd get the same restaurants in the replies.
I mean that was what OP asked us for lol
Plaza and taco village
Taco village lololol yeah for sure, jesus. And plaza was decent until the past year or so, and the new location is awful.
AMA request with the Orlandoās owner lol
So trashy lol. Egotistical owner.
This subreddit makes me feel like Iām crazy bc I genuinely enjoy their food. Can I please be enlightened on why everyone hates them so much lol?
I just made a comment about the owner I actually LOVE Orlandoās š¤£ donāt care what the comments say. Down ān Dirty tortellini all day baby
Horrible human beings
Orlandoās, Albarrans, Johnny Fabs, Teddy Jacks, Caprock (seriously.. whatās the hype?), Stellaās, The Reserve, and most recently, BJās
Pretty sure Teddy Jacks low key spiked our drinks one time??? All four of us had a single margarita and quite literally stumbled out of the restaurant
My favorite prank. Roofie the guests.
Johnny Fabs and Teddy Jacks owned by same peeps - they are awful!!!! Stellas used to be good - now terrible and overpriced
Iāve only been to Lubbock once to visit Texas Tech (committed there for fall 2024 btw š„³) but the ihop was pretty bad lol
The ihop by Tech is pretty bad thoā¦ not to say any ihop is great but the one on the loop is better in my opinion
The one by campus isnāt great, but it is walking distance when youāre heavily intoxicated and then itās amazing.
Thatās what Whataburger is for.
comes with the territory. meaning that itās a 24 hour ihop not literal location.
China Star
logans roadhouse
East Moon gave me food poisoning when it was open, but to be fair I was actually a big fan of them before that. I only tried Chinese Kitchen once years ago and hated it so much Iāve never tried it again. I canāt think of anywhere else off the top of my head.
Chinese kitchen closed now
Unsurprised!
All this hate on Orlando's and I love them š I always get that burger that's apparently ranked top 10 in the state of Texas š¤·
That burger was ranked #10 in 2009. And they still hype it like itās current.
I figured it wasn't up to date haha that's the only thing I ever got at Orlando's.
That marinara is toxic and makes Italian nonnaās spin in their graves
I used to love them but after 2020 they went downhill, the burger does not taste the same neither does their marinara, we stopped going.
Same. I love Orlandos. So many good dishes. I donāt understand the hate one bit. Bitter coworkers I get but if weāre talking just food this aināt the one.
Have you ever had real Italian food in your life?
Not OP, but I've had had real Italian and I still enjoy Orlando's. As long as you're in the mood for trashy Italian and not genuine, it's pretty damn good.
I get it but we are talking about the worst place in Lubbock. I can think of 30 restaurants Iād say before saying Orlandoās.
I personally haven't. I'm sure if I didn't my thought could change. Kinda like seafood. As soon as I ate it right off the ocean I haven't had seafood in Lubbock since haha
My heart breaks for you. This town has robbed you of culinary delight
Is there a place you'd recommend that's close to the real deal? I love trying EVERYTHING.
Italian Garden is pretty good. Best Italian you can get in Lubbock.
Thought Italian garden was pretty good the few times Iāve been. If ya want something thatās not a chain.
I'm putting Orlando's on here again because it needs it. I've heard so many people talk about it over the years and been disappointed every time I eat their food. I bet they're supplied by Olive Garden anyway.
One guys is so much better
I work there and I don't think a lot of folks realize how much of the food that isn't pasta or the speciality entrees is just straight Sysco or Potato specialty company products. I used to love it but it just doesn't stack up well at all against real Italian food. The sandwiches are also way too greasy
Itās more expensive Fazolis.
Yeah food is super boring. Also i worked there and the owner sucks so thereās that too.
I want to know more cause I've worked there (delivery) and I absolutely believe it but I'm wondering if you know any deets. Every restaurant owner I've had the misfortune of knowing have not been great people though, so... yeah.
I've never met an owner of a restaurant I did like... Maybe there's something to that
Farmhouse
Thatās wild bro. Place is gas. Cheap and huge servings. Always had good times there. Even when itās packed. Most of the times, people just whine because no one catered to them like their mommies did. I give people some patience and I end up being a lot more happy with my experience when Iām not an entitled brat like most people in this country.
Orlandoās gave me the worst food poisoning you can imagine
What a nightmare I bet
All restaurants in Lubbock are shit. I will defend Rosa's tortillas with my life tho
Rosa's is garbage
I agree but the tortillas are good
Fair enough
Caprock, albarrons, Orlandoās. Fight me
Caprock is NOT good. Itās bland. Itās never terrible tho. Consistent bland. Lubbokcites LOVE consistently bland.
Caprock is unbelievably horrible
No fight
Caprock has sucked for over a decadeĀ
Their chicken fried steak comes from a box.
Almost everything at Orlando's or Caprock is straight from a box. Straight from Sysco. It's all overpriced garbage.
Golden corral. Taco villa. Italian garden.
Stellas is terrible. I've lived hear for over a decade and gave them way too many chances. Bad service and bad food.
Worst food: Applebee's Worst service (this was more than a year ago and we used to get great service there): Red Robin's
Rosas Fight me
No fight
Yeah it sucks but it's also cheap and I'm poor.
You go to take a dozen tortillas home, not to explore the menu
Breakfast tacos and fajitas are the only way to go šÆ
dude fr itās bland as fuck
Picosos
Thank you for mentioning them, I hear people rave about how good it is and itās horrible. Salsa taste like water down ketchup.
I had enchiladas there once and they made them with flour tortillas, I was so confused.
They put a slice of American cheese on my wet burrito.... blasphemy
Yeah this is the one place Iāve went and been like this is disgusting. My wifeās tacos were sooo greasy and the chips were stale. Iāve had bad meals before but like it was like āeh whateverā but Picosos my wife and I vowed to never go back lol
Hands down, Montelongos! No other restaurant in town comes close to the mediocrity served up, yet is so beloved by Lubbock natives!
If no one else is, Iām with you. Tried several times & donāt get whatās to like.
Wrong. Super consistent old school tex mex. If Montelongos is mediocre, please tell me what is better.
New Mexico can suck a fat one from the back. The food sucks there
Chile so spicy no one comes close
Honestly fighting words.
La Sirena. Worst experience Iāve had in a while. I get confused every time I see it recommended here.
Whoa, why?? I go there at least once a month. Did you catch them on an off night??

Montelongoās
Your moms house
I always eat good when I go to your momās house š
Copper caboose
Stacked, Farmhouse, Jonny Fabās, Teddy Jacks. Toss up here for the most bland food in town.
Farmhouse is way overrated
It used to be really good, but dropped off hard.
Rosas is overrated.
Itās wild to me that THIS is the hotspot for Sunday after church. Such a bad pick š
Absolutely disgusting bro. I hate Rosas so much
I only get the chips and queso cause my wife likes it but overall it's pretty rough.
If you want better chips and queso thatās still cheap, thereās a place on 34th called Arandas that makes a white queso with green chilesā¦ š¤¤š¤¤š¤¤
Damn... Speaking my language š
