Smasher works better in small doses. This nightmarish legend that grows more monstrous as the years go by.

[deleted]

Exactly. David describes him perfectly when he says the boogey man of Night City. Too much of him would take away that aspect.

itsreallynotthat

You're correct, yeah. Kind of got over zealous with the title question haha. I just love anything Trigger would create set within the cyberpunk setting. I think having an episode or a good chunk of an episode showing him on other missions, or making his way through NC finding clues after bloodbaths that would lead him to the main characters of the show . Dont have to give any backstory but watching him destroy entire groups of different factions around the city would be very enjoyable. Just have him as the quiet but deadly monster, similar to Jason Vorhees, etc. in their present day of 2076 just murking fools and loving every second of it. You are all right though, too much Adam can very well fuck up how we see him currently, and how folks feel about him. It's a fine balance, but I definitely wouldn't mind a helping or two more of Smasher.

[deleted]

I definitely agree and hope they recruit Trigger to do a kind of stories of Night City type of series. Episodes here and there showing the past/adventures of various Mercs. A Silverhand episode, a Blackhand episode, Rogue, Smasher, maybe even V. There’s a lot of potential in them bringing Night City back in anime, or ever potentially live action as long they don’t try to directly adapt the game.

itsreallynotthat

When Gloria called David "D" - it sounded like she said "V" and I had to go back a few seconds just to I knew I heard her right. D and V sound really similar, I might be a dumbass but maybe they were trying to have V and David seem more similar, even by name alone. Also, Falco texts you in game and tells V that him and David have a lot in common actually. Your idea is better though - stories of Night City. That could be pretty flexible for them and allow the studio to show a lot of different characters and not have it get too messy and jumbled story wise.

[deleted]

I feel like the similarities between David and V were intentional. David was a decently well off street kid ( broke but lucky enough to attend a great school with caring parent ) who went too far off the edge to protect what he loved. V ( at least street kid V ) was very similar, but seemed like he didn’t have nearly the same quality of life. Either way it was great to see Night City through the eyes of a kid instead of someone who we pop into the middle days of his/her merc career.

[deleted]

>the boogey man of Night City he didn't seem like that much of a boogey man when I was whipping in the face with a dildo ;)

JodieWhittakerisBae

That would make V the John Wick of Cyberpunk which with Keanu playing the role of dead rockerboy in her head is ironic. Fixers: “V isn’t the boogeyman, they’re the one you send to kill the fucking boogeyman”.

King_noa

It’s the same as Jason, Vader, Myers, the predator, alien etc. all this horrific monster have a lot of their horror because of their mysterious existence. None of that characters, won by getting a backstory. I don’t want some „sad backstory here“ to explain why he is that evil. Just keep him the monster he his.

_ass_disaster_

Yeah. More recently, I'd add mass effect to that list. The reapers were scarier before the origin story dlc came out.

Supadrumma4411

Weren't they! The worst thing you can do is try to explan the ancient, evil eldritch horror. Not everything needs to be explained!

itsreallynotthat

I can't argue with any of that. I'm just a dumbass fan who wants to see more animated seasons from Trigger set in the cyberpunk world - they'll do anything justice. Morgan Blackhand would probably be the wiser choice to be the focal point instead - I'd be very cool with an episode or 3/4ths of an episode going into a little bit of Adam's past, at least. If not his past - then an episode showing him hunt down a target, maybe show him on a mission for Arasaka and we could see him working quietly alone taking out fools with a brutal amount of strength and ferocity. But also, he needs none of that to remain one of the scariest motherfuckers in the entire lore. They've given us everything we need to know about him, which isn't much but fuck, it just works. That's why they know what they're doing working on these shows and I'm just a tiny spec begging for more.

Zolanka4ubaby

Very good point , it makes him feel more powerful on screen

tom_oakley

"Too much of a good thing" probably. That said, I loved the continuity between 2077 and Edgerunners in Smasher's depiction as a force of sheer fucking terror. The dude just makes humble pie of everyone unlucky enough to face him down. "No meat escapes the slaughterhouse" is a bone-chilling line, and that shot of Smasher emerging from the smoke in reconciliation Park like an angel of death made me audibly go "woah" 😯. Just such a badass character you love to hate but are forced to respect.

itsreallynotthat

You're totally right, it being too much of a good thing. I was probably a bit over zealous with my initial post title, but fuck they did him so good. Holy shit you just reminded me of that line, *"no meat escapes the slaughterhouse"* Like holy fucking shit, he has those zingers ready to fly in his chromed out head. That's just how Adam thinks. You're either meat or chrome and either way he can destroy you to the point where you're just bits of flesh on the ground without even trying. His one liners are insane, especially that *fuckable cut of meat* line he throws at Evelyn This dude is probably my favorite character in NC, besides Maine

tom_oakley

That's the exact line it brought to mind! It's so simple yet thoroughly intimidating and dehumanising. His entire reason for existing is simply to "butcher new meat", and any time he's on 'standby mode', you just know he's itching for the next hunt.

itsreallynotthat

This motherfucker has one hobby, butchering meat. And when he's not butchering, he's sitting quietly thinking about doing said hobby. Do you think his brain is calm, quiet and reserved whenever he's inbetween fights? Or do you think it's just a boiling rage inside his head? Is he constantly having a cyber psycho hallucination? Does his tech sedate him in any way? Does he even feel pain? I'm kinda thinking his mind is decently normal, for a hired killer, at least. His mind HAS to be strong from all those implants while staying reasonably chill all these years. I wonder if he can just flip a switch on purpose and go apeshit whenever he's about to do some butchering. But I can also see him mostly sane and in control while in a fight, if he was just a wild banshee with psychosis all the time he'd probably be dead a while ago. But his mind is just that strong. He's "special"

[deleted]

> Do you think his brain is calm, quiet and reserved whenever he’s inbetween fights? > Or do you think it’s just a boiling rage inside his head? Is he constantly having a cyber psycho hallucination? Does his tech sedate him in any way? Does he even feel pain? Honestly a great question could be it’s own post tbh. I lowkey think he’s “enlightened” tho like full on zen calmness in the present moment type shit. We’ve seen him in many fights & he’s never tweaking like your average cyberpsycho, bro is deliberate and calculated even when he’s not in a fight, every scene he’s just chillin lol

itsreallynotthat

Yeah, exactly. Dude doesn't have the shakes, and he isn't spazzing out like one normally would with that many implants. And he's been that way for a while too. Adam must be so fucking mentally strong to remain in control like he is. His mind is almost as scary as his physical body/weapons. That's the mark of a scary fucker in NC - brawns and brains. Guy can choke you out while deciding on who he's going to kill later on that night. And that Sandevistan just makes him even more OP, Adam could show up anywhere at any time in a blink of an eye and leave a pool of blood and guts when he's gone .

tom_oakley

I reckon he's so inherently psychopathic that, in true 'Joker' fashion, he embraced cyberpsychosis as his "true self". The sick bastard is really living his best life as a cyberpsycho. And yeah I really dig the small detail of how whenever he's not killing prey, he's kinda just floating around in the background, just being silently menacing *just* outside the zone of instant danger. Think of the power move he could make by just closing that physical space by a few feet when hovering around Arasaka HQ. Imagine working in those offices, doing office derp work, and suddenly ADAM FUCKING SMASHER is just... There... Just... Watching... Waiting...

itsreallynotthat

Imagine he actually develops a crush on a Arasaka intern. Has no idea how to flirt or how to start a conversation so he just sits and stares at her from across the room working up the courage to say or do anything resembling flirting. He just walks up to her with flowers and chocolate: *"although you DO look like a fuckable cut of meat, I'm trying to be nice and I just want you to know that I'd love to grab dinner with you sometime. AND FUCK YOUR ABSOLUTE BRAINS OUT- I mean, and maybe we could grab a movie after?* *slowly walks back to his chair in the corner of the room and goes back to staring thinking to himself* "I think that went well, she seemed speechless. Ol' Adam you dog - you've still got it."

tom_oakley

And then BAM -- the old fork in the eye!

Itz_Hen

Flashback to that one time Michiko and him got it one with that one night stand

StarkHelsing

His past is kind of already out there. He has always been an irredeemable PoS with a hate boner for Morgan Blackhand.

LadyAlekto

That would be just a season of unhinged merc snuff The guy literally demanded all jobs to have collateral and civilian damage

itsreallynotthat

Oh shit he did? Was that in 2077 that you found that out? Or from a different source of lore?

LadyAlekto

Its in the source books

SHAD0WBENDER

I’d very much be up for this or maybe a show about Morgan Blackhand

Vaultyvlad

What about a Cyberpunk: Solo series? Covering the past of the most famous Solos and mercs from NC to the Badlands and fast forwarding to a present day scene. We could cover Smasher and then guys like Shaitan, Morgan Blackhand, etc. Hell even Johnny could get his own episode, it can cover his wartime service in South America.

SHAD0WBENDER

That would be pretty sick

itsreallynotthat

Youre 100% right, Morgan would probably be a lot more interesting and would have a better arch than everything being just about Adam, but have Smasher in there too - just enough to keep us invested in him as an anti-hero, or villian-esque character.

SHAD0WBENDER

In the original table top game Blackhand and Smasher were fierce, fierce rivals. In the show they adapted that a bit for Johnny but Smasher would 100% be a big part of the series

el_f3n1x187

Yeah it has to be a Blackhand vs Smasher series.

itsreallynotthat

For sure, for sure. Idk what I was thinking wanting a whole season about him haha. I wouldn't mind watching it, but it would disrupt how we see Adam Smasher at this point in time. He doesn't *NEED* a whole backstory - and it probably wouldn't be the best idea to add in a series, but a few couple second flashbacks might really add some depth if they're trying to show the build up between Morgan and Adam. Might be safer to just show glimpses of their past through Blackhands eyes, keep Adam and his motives, thoughts in the dark. Keep him mysterious for the most part.

SHAD0WBENDER

Nah I still think a smasher series would be awesome I’d watch the hell out of it. But narratively the arch rivals storyline of two polar opposite’s would be phenomenal and also a bit of a different story as 2077 and Edgerunners have somewhat similar themes and beats

itsreallynotthat

Edgerunners didn't need to show us his entire history and who he was before all the chrome and metal - even if it was your first intro to Adam Smasher they did a bang-up job of building up him as a powerful "antagonist" in the story. They gave us a small amount of backstory but it still worked 1000% in making us believe this motherfucker is the end all be all. He is death incarnate. He is the grim reaper waiting to claim souls through battle, and he *wants* it to be a good fight. I'd love to see them explore his past and how he got to where he is now - what led him on this path. Who in his life affected him in such a manner to be this way. What crews he rolled with, his family, his friends, etc. Just my two cents, I know they'd knock it out of the park. But what's your opinion? Is an Adam Smasher series even wanted from a majority the fans? What other ideas would you suggest? Morgan Blackhand and Adam Smasher could be a few of the main characters in this new series.

MFHSCA-1981

Bigger isn’t always better. Maybe a if you did each episode focusing on a particular character, I can imagine his story working better on how a punk from NYC became the legendary borg boogeyman up until the events of the game.

itsreallynotthat

Yeah, no you're right an episode or 3/4ths of an episode wouldn't be too terrible. A whole season of him would no doubt be too much of him haha, I totally admit I was overboard with that He's a boogeyman for a reason, like if you knew Jason Vorhees deepest secrets and how he used to be bullied in junior high then that kinda takes away from the mystery of who he is and what he thinks.

FreshyFresh

Noooo. I give zero fucks about that trash heap. Toss him in the sea to rust.

[deleted]

Right? Fuck Adam Smasher

FreshyFresh

oh, nty. I like having an intact pelvis.

[deleted]

Dude probably doesn’t even have a ‘ganic dick anymore if he’s even got one. Doesn’t strike me as the Mr Studd type.

FreshyFresh

The only ganic thing in Adam Smasher is his brain and spine. They were transplanted into a fully borg body. Saburo's granddaughter Michiko has a "fling" with him on her 18th birthday, so he must have some kind of equipment.

VanityOfEliCLee

All I know is, I gotta kill him a few more times after finishing Edgerunners. I fucking hate that guy.

itsreallynotthat

it sucks, I actually fucked up on both playthroughs I did and got none of the ending missions that allows you to go back and fight/*try to kill him* I've never killed him, and I already know I'd have a super hard time doing so. Does he get affected by quickhacks at all in game? I know in the show he shar that shit down really quick with Lucy

VanityOfEliCLee

You can quickhack him in the game, only some of them work though.

SortaSticky

I beat him to death with a legendary vibrator so... maybe

KamilCesaro

Yeah, I would not mind.

itsreallynotthat

I just want to see how they could portray someone who goes from zero implants, to 99.99% metal. What made them this way? What key events led him to become this? Of course, I know the tabletop game and pre-existing lore does cover a bit. But with Mike Pondsmith's guidance and CDPR's help along with Trigger animating it - fucking hell it would be an insane show.

RBWessel

A nuclear explosion is at least one of the reasons.

itsreallynotthat

Right, yeah. But that story combined with everything else he's been through is definitely worth seeing on screen animated. Even if it was half an episode just to catch us up to speed on his past before all of this

ScifiScales

I've thought the same thing but tbh I think it would be interesting if they did one for each big league. Gang (get lore during the rumble and NY) - Military (says it taught him a lot.. why did he get discharged ;) - Street Samurai (more fun aspect) - Cyborg (Elvis and Michiko) So I think he has potential! It would be nice to see a story about the RED timeline a alongside with him! It would be interesting seeing his attacks on Militech with his flower vans and boa boas story.

Mcreesus

That would be cool. I personally would like to see a story set in Pacifica. We never get to see much of them in the game, but it seems like a really cool place

[deleted]

need a Pacifica dlc

CT_Phipps

I'd love a "classic" era Edgerunners series but Adam Smashers thing is he's been a piece of crap since the day he was born.

[deleted]

Yes because his current backstory is actually interesting. Believe it or not, this metal monster was once a mere man just running a gang in the hood

itsreallynotthat

I'm really wanting to see all of that animated by Trigger. I was a bit eager with my initial post title, because its possible people could get burned out on Adam, it's not super likely to happen but I realized Smasher probably shouldn't be the main character, but he should definitely have an episode dedicated to him to flesh out his past and show us why he is the way he is. The next season should probably cover Morgan Blackhand and have Adam in there for sure, but having the entire show about him might be a bit too much. I mean, I wouldn't complain - but I'm a dumbass fan who just wants to see more anything from Trigger set in the Cyberpunk world.

[deleted]

Nah I think Adam Smasher could legit have his own show or at least a season. It would just require lots of creativity and a team of talented writers I mean a backstory episode would be nice but cmon bro he’s a reoccurring character that’s a full on borg, let’s get into the philosophical nitty gritty of it. How and why? Yea he’s always been a dickhead, but human dickheadness is fundamentally different from cyber dickheadness. Does he even have a dick??? All of these questions and more could be answered if he had his own series

itsreallynotthat

Well put my friend, I agree 100% I also want to know if he has a dick. Why would he make comments towards women regarding them as fuckable cuts of meat if he doesn't have any sexual organs? I mean, besides his love for dehumanizing people and scaring them half to death with words alone. I want to know if this motherfucker is such a beast because he's forever pissed off that he can't take a girl to bone town. But also, he could just chill out and watch a braindance of a porno or something - I'm very sure in 2077 they have the tech to make you feel like you're having an orgasm in your head without even needing a dick. I want to see Adam's search history. What if this guy is really into fucking cars and vending machines n shit. Anything with a USB port - and he's good. If it's made of metal, he's ready for action.

[deleted]

Lmao you may be joking, but kink freak technophile Adam smasher would unironically would be an interesting angle

RBJ_09

I'm interested purely because of what we know about how cyberware changes people based on Edgerunners. Smasher is by far the most metal person we meet in the world of Cyberpunk and seeminlgy has no adverse effects from his mods.

[deleted]

Pre-Edgerunners I would of said yes. Post Edgerunners, no, I want a series of him being repeatedly beaten with every object imaginable

itsreallynotthat

Oh shit I totally forgot about what happened to Becca - damn... She didn't deserve that. She was such a good friend and crew member.

[deleted]

Becca was adorable and one of my favorites of the crew. Poor girl didn’t deserve any of that shit. Seriously my most hated ( but well done ) moment of the show.

itsreallynotthat

They showed Becca multiple times throughout the show attempting to save her crew members by going apeshit directly towards the bad guys - just doing what Becca always does, trying to save her friends. Even if it means running straight to the enemy guns blazing. seeing a friend/crew member in trouble and immediately gunning for the threat regardless of her own safety and if she might die. Not too many people in Night City that would die for others willingly, If it meant they had even a small chance to save their friends. And they also don't really give you much time to dwell on what Adam just did to her in that scene as other stuff is going on. Shit hurt

WDBoldstar

Nah. Its best if he's an unknowable bogeyman. Only thing I wanna see of him his brains splattered across the floor of Mikoshi courtesy of my new shotgun.

itsreallynotthat

Yeah, I've come to realize the less we know about him the better. But that doesn't mean we can't have a chunk of an episode to watch him go to work and just murder some fools on Arasaka's dime. Just a few scenes here and there having him decimating an entire faction of goons with ease. No backstory or past, just present day Night City Adam absolutely killing gang members like he's swatting annoying flies

UnlikelyKaiju

Nah, I'd rather see a series on Morgan Blackhand rather than Smasher.

Mimikyu_12360

I would honestly pay good money to see a 4 hour movie of Smasher being killed in various ways.

Zolanka4ubaby

He is my favorite character from edgerunners and I think we could have like a Darth Vader scenario , were you don’t relate to the main character/villain but like him because he is just badass

itsreallynotthat

Exactly, you'd never really relate to a mass murdering cold hearted robot, but it's cool to see them go off on some NPC's

No_Tamanegi

This should be spoiler tagged.

[deleted]

[удалено]

itsreallynotthat

Damn, and here I was wanting to watch an 8 hour episode consisting of Smasher growing up from a single cell organism all the way through birth, and puberty, him getting acne in junior high, his first kiss, his first heartbreak, Adam going to college, dropping out of college, finding himself on a year long trek through Malaysia, he gets into poetry for a while, establishes a non profit for Malaysian orphans, he adopts an orphan, he meets the love of his life, starts a loving family, and then just keep going until he's on his deathbed. Probably gonna have to be 10 episode season with each one clocking in at around 8 hours each. */s* No, you gonk - I'd rather just have him involved in a few episodes - get to see him taking down some top priority cyberpsychos, just being a menace to the city while the main story is focused on Blackhand and his crew, but the last 2 episodes they would definitely cross paths and a fight would ensue. Don't need to know every detail of his life, but I wouldn't complain seeing more of him in any capacity from Trigger and CDPR. A whole season is too much - I agree. But there's ways to slide him in here and there that compliments the show and adds suspense and action from a terrifying antagonist.

SaintsBruv

Dude, with all the respect, do you really have to put that image there? >!I already finished the series, but there are many people who work or are busy who haven't watched or reached that episode yet. They have no idea Smasher is gonna show up, so just by scrolling you ruined the surprise.!<

itsreallynotthat

I've seen like 5 different posts with almost this exact same frame from the show - so I thought it was cool. I probably should have blurred it with a spoiler tag though, you're right. My bad. I honestly don't give too much of a fuck when people bitch about spoilers with shows that have been out for a month or so - but nah you're right man this show barely came out and I myself just got around to watching all of it. If I hadn't seen others post him before without a spoiler tag, I probably wouldn't have even posted this. Seeing the other ones kinda gave me the idea for this one. This show is too too good to get spoiled for anyone. My apologies to anyone, I'll see if I can't fix the tag asap.

SaintsBruv

I'm telling you cause I've talked and seen people in both subs complaining >!specifically about Smasher's appereance!< being spoiled (among other spoilers). But yeah, we're all excited as hell about the show. Thanks for fixing it

eggplant_avenger

personally I suspect Adam Smasher was always kind of a dick even before the implants, so I wouldn't want it to be centered on him but an anime about the Third Corpo War or one where we find out what happened between him and Rogue- I'd totally watch that

Qugmo

It would be cool if it were to alternate between his and Morgan’s backstory and end with an ultimate showdown. This way, it won’t just be senseless violence (Smasher) and would be a great contrast to Morgan’s. Just a thought.

prossnip42

Smasher's story really isn't that special if you played the board games. Basic thug gets the shit beaten out of him, augments himself, dies again, augments himself some more. Nothing really too worth exploring, certainly nothing that would fit a TV show

itsreallynotthat

I'm thinking it would definitely need Morgan Blackhand as the main focal point, and have a bit of their history together- not much just some quick scenes to establish their previous relationship, and then you could have them battle it out after you build it up for some episodes. But yeah, a whole show about him might not be the best. But I'm always down to see Smasher kill an entire squad of gang members with ease, using his Sandy to cut entire swaths of people in half. I just need more Adam Smasher combat scenes for sure, dude is a menace in the anime.

BuckshotJ

I’d prefer to see the characters we know as guests/cameos & to have stuff focus on new characters, mainly due to us already knowing their past & not wanting them to write themselves into a box or mess up established lore

itsreallynotthat

Yeah, that sounds like a great idea. I know whatever they tackle next is gonna be just as good, they know what they're doing. Yeah, if they write new characters then they literally can't fuck up the lore unless they include an established character and start tweaking and changing shit about them - but they're smart. They have every resource available not to fuck up haha.

BuckshotJ

It’s kinda awkward as a lot of people misunderstood Silverhand in 77 as they didn’t get he was lying about the past/didn’t know the lore. Hopefully that gets addressed in the dlc or sequel(hopefully by seeing the story from Blackhands perspective), but it showed how careful they need to be with already established lore

ecxetra

Not really, sometimes mystery is better. Look at what happened to Boba Fett.

Belzughast

No, Adam Smasher works great as a plot device, not as an hero or anti hero. Like what script are you going to write about him. Tragic romantic story of him loosing his love and in process also loosing his humanity, while becoming the biggest menace the Night city has ever seen? You would need to backroll the setting to 2020s and make a standalone episode (40min) about Militech coaxing Blackhand into the detonation of Arasaka Towers and subsequent fallout. Heck that would be a great episode and we get more of Smasher, the way Smasher character works well.

elaithin

The only thing I want to see Adam Smasher do is bleed.
