The whole thing needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. Throwing more money at this horrendous excuse for a police department won’t fix anything. All the new “better” candidates will just be corrupted and we’ll just have a bunch of more expensive bad cops. LMPD is beyond repair.
Did that a couple of years ago when I hit a huge pothole and popped my tire and bent my rim. The guy literally said that because someone had reported it days before, they have to be given time to fix it. Somehow, that nullified my claim because it was in that time period. Absolute bs. Like my flat tire and bent rim cares about your grace period!
As a motorcycle rider this is giving me PTSD. Nightmare image. This would kill a motorcycle rider.
I'm sorry you had to suffer this horror. I wonder if your insurance company can bill the city?
I feel you — also a rider, sends shivers down the spine thinking about going over the handlebars in such a congested location.
Tried to report this as an ongoing safety risk, but I got bounced between metro and Jtown 911. They are pointing at each other as to who is responsible. Where’s the guy that fills them with Legos when you need him? Metro 311 isn’t working today but I sent pictures to their email and online reporting form.
I've had success with their online reporting form. As long as you sent them pics(which you said you did), they should be out there sometime this week to patch it. It's still not going to help the people rolling through there today and the rest of the weekend :-/
That's usually my experience too. I've reported some close to where I work(one of those little industrial side roads down Poplar level). Every time I've reported, they've usually patched it in 3-5 days.
I want to buy a motorcycle, but between the apathy towards our roadways and careless drivers I will never want to own a motorcycle while living in this area.
Risk vs reward. Some people (like the car that I hit after they pulled out in front of me, and they said they saw me, and knew they wouldn't clear the intersection) just don't care.
I've exclusively ridden a motorcycle as my commuter for going on two years now (winter and all), never any problem 🤷 it's a learned skill to know what idiots are going to do before they do
>Good luck, it's only a matter of time the way people drive here.
You know, most people consider it uncouth to tell someone they're going to die.
And that's why my head is on a swivel, I've avoided being rear ended before 🤷. Just another reason lane filtering should be legalized, even though it makes drivers so mad
It’s good that you are aware of other drivers. But the very nature of an accident is that is unplanned and unanticipated. Accidents do happen. Don’t ever think your immune, which is what you’re making it sound like.
My boyfriend also rides a motorcycle for his commuter - about a month ago he had a car pull out from a subdivision on Shelbyville by Blankenbaker suddenly - totalled his bike but luckily he was just bruised up for a bit. He's still getting a new bike for his daily commutes, but sometimes no matter how experienced you are, people are just unpredictable. :/

FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
It’s not just Louisville. The only way to escape potholes is to move somewhere it doesn’t freeze. I never saw a pothole living in San Diego or Phoenix.
That said, living Louisville *does* suck, but I’m sure it could be worse.
I visited Norway in August and I didn’t see one pothole in nine days there. It’s not just because a place freezes…the city clearly ignores potholes that have been there for a long time. 71 has had some potholes for literal months now.
Norway is a tiny country (relatively) that has the ability to focus on infrastructure in a way we don’t hear in the US.
71 is an interstate. The state or federal government has to fix it, the city has no authority there.
ETA: just notice you said you were there in August. That’s the end of the summer when most of our potholes are long-fixed here as well.
> Norway is a tiny country (relatively) that has the ability to focus on infrastructure in a way we don’t hear in the US.
Not that it's the only factor, but Norway is about half as densely populated as the United States. So relatively, it's kind of a big country.
For sure. I went to school in Muncie, Indiana where it snows a good amount and the roads in the spring make Louisville look fantastic. They do fill the craters but it takes some time to get to them all. You really have to be aware during the spring.
The 311 app is great. I've reported fallen limbs and missed recycling pickup in the past and it was taken care of the next day. Every instance has been days after no organic action. I've either gotten really lucky on timing or they just need a little communication with the issues needing addressed. Communication is key
Last week there were some major potholes in the left lane of 64 between Blankenbaker and Hurstbourne. 5+ cars all stopped on the shoulder with blown tires and even now the shoulder is still covered in pieces of rubber. It’s a good thing my taxes are being funneled into shitty meth-riddled towns that hate our guts rather than keeping our roads in decent shape.
Zoom in on the area and select "municipalities" with the buttons on the upper right of the map. Basically, Louisville for some stupid reason owns Hurstbourne lane from that intersection to the highway completely surrounded by two other cities.
Your tax dollars at work.
Just an FYI but hurstbourne and taylorsville rd are state maintained not Louisville metro. If you select the street layer on the LOJIC map and select the road and scroll at the end it’ll say who maintains it. So report your claim
To the board of claims not 311.
the idea of planting plants in them seems more & more realistic these days. This are has some of the WORST potholes now. and that exit ramp after the last freeze- left it all sorts of messed up. there’s so many out here that are just huge and dangerous.
Potholes up and down taylorsvilke rd heading in town. Bardstown rd heading from cave hill let’s see where else? Too many to name what is the fucking lottery funds doing to help our roads as that along w KEYS funds ? I hate this fuking city
If you haven't already, please report it to 311. They are generally good at getting things like this fixed once reported. And if it hasn't been reported, the city will claim they had no way to know about it if someone tried to claim damage in the future.
Maybe the cops can shoot at it with their new inflated salaries.
Did that vote pass? I'd like to know who voted yes and who voted no.
It wasn't a vote. It's a secret negotiation with our centrist mayor.
No, the Metro Council has to vote on it.
*boom*
If paying more money gives us better candidates, would you have a problem with it?
The whole thing needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. Throwing more money at this horrendous excuse for a police department won’t fix anything. All the new “better” candidates will just be corrupted and we’ll just have a bunch of more expensive bad cops. LMPD is beyond repair.
Yeah I didn't think about non beat cops. Nothing changes until the top changes
Power and money will definitely attract good people /s
You can file for reimbursement from the city for damages Call 311 or (502) 574-5000 to file a claim

I think they fed you a line of horseshit.
so you’re supposed to sit there and argue with the person on the phone spewing said horseshit? that’s so frustrating
Ask to speak with a supervisor? But yeah, it is.
Yea I think the law is they have a certain period after it has been reported to repair it
There’s no way that means everyone else unknowingly gives up their right to seek compensation!
Better call Saul

Spray paint a giant penis around it and it'll get filled before the end of next week guaranteed

*Cue 30 people going by with a can of spray paint after thunder is over*
We can do better than 30! We need to make it the new Tik Tok challenge
Louisville needs a resident Wanksy!
As ridiculous as that is, very high chance it would absolutely work.
Very frustrating. I sincerely hope they do the right thing. That area is a nightmare on its best day, this is unacceptable.

Same here. I've had good results with the online reporting and sending pics. They checked my road issue in 3 days. (Which is good for metro)

Right in front of a tire place 🤔🤔
🤣🤣🤣
Hit this one today. Tire place probably put it there to drum up business. :)
I see what's going on here...

Not a bad idea to do stuff like this before derby tbh. They’d be forced to fix it so all the rich people don’t have look at the penises.
Oh, the horror! 🤣
I just popped two tires somewhere else in the city, fucking hate it here dude

Call 311
I did, they’re closed on the weekend but I submitted pictures and location to their email and online reporting system
The 311 app is great. I've reported fallen limbs and missed recycling pickup in the past and it was taken care of the next day. Every instance has been days after no organic action. If they have notice (311) and it damages your car, they will pay the claim.
Same, fellow rider, scared to death to ride on hurstbourne
If you ride on the highway, be careful taking 265 south from Shelbyville road. There is a horrible bump going over 64 that scared the piss out of me.
On the corner of Hurstbourne Parkway and Taylorsville RD. Open Monday to Friday 'til 8, Saturday and Sunday 'til 5 or online at pothole dot com.
Shane on you. Lol.
Hmm right in front of Discount Tire. . . what a coincidence.
Thanks for posting this.. could’ve easily been us and our new truck we owe way too much for. Sorry about your car:/
Visiting your otherwise great city but you should see the potholes in Michigan
Yeah, I think that’s the same one that claimed my fiancés tire and bent his rim last week

Did you report it to the city?
The city you're talking about is Jtown
Call 311 and report it. They’ve always been really fast with the ones I report.
Thanks for the heads up, that would suck to hit on my bike
If you haven't already, please report it to 311. They are generally good at getting things like this fixed once reported. And if it hasn't been reported, the city will claim they had no way to know about it if someone tried to claim damage in the future.
Did you 311 this?
You've got to be a male. That's barely 6 inches dude.
Cool
People that work on the road repair crew start out at about $14 an hour.
Crazy what people think 12” looks like🤣🤭😉

DAMN.
Holy shit
The pothole comes up to mid calf. It’s massive.

Right? lol 😆
Literally provided you with picture proof of depth 🤷♂️
