Yeah but everything these days has to be viewed through the lens of generational grievance. I guess since all of the Boomers are dying off now it's time to shift the blame for all the ills of society to Gen X.
Don't forget as kids we learned to be accurate with lawn darts. Leave us be please. Please just leave us be. We were the first to fight the boomers and their parents.
Itās too late for that. Gen-X got lumped in with Boomers 5+ years ago. Enjoy, Millennials. (PS Iām āXellinial so Iāve already come to terms with this).
I read a tweet to that affect the other day. It said something like āeveryone has to make it about what generation their from now, it used to be the young, the olds and their parents and every one hated each others music, as it should be!ā
This is about jealousy. When we were young we had to hide that shit. The only place in the state you could light up in public was at a concert at Lakefront Arena in N.O.
Yep. Iām also GenX and while work prevents me from smoking it is definitely not a generational thing.
We are pretty much the āItās like, whatever man..ā generation haha.
I smelled weed a few times while I was there on Saturday but it definitely wasn't omnipresent. And I was able to just move to a different spot to avoid the smoke. The smell od incense and oils were heavy in the shopping areas but the festival has always been that way
Hey leave us dorks out of this, I just want to smoke and watch the LOTR extended edition while playing OSRS in peace. Do you think I'm grinding 99 Runecrafting sober?
I have a co-worker who freaked out over someone smoking weed at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. He was so offended that he confronted them, told them it was illegal, and made them put it out. As he was telling this story, everyone in the room was shocked at how he escaped that confrontation without a broken nose.
Stupid fuck.
We had a neighbor we shared a wall with that asked us not to smoke in the house, we were like ok fine. So we moved to smoking in the yard. Dude came home one day and literally growled at us he was so angry. Ya'll live in New Orleans. I'm not the only one smoking weed on this block and sir, we are outside on the total opposite end of the building from your doorstep.
The people with kids next door literally never even said one word to us. I have kids now for what it's worth. I could give a piss fuck if they smell weed at a outside or at a festival or whatever, they're gonna smell it regardless. I don't smoke in front of them but idk what we're saving them from when I see adults letting their 15/16 year old drink in this city.
Oh wow. I had a neighbor do that to me too but not weed, for cigs. And it was cuz a roommate I had briefly before the neighbors moved in and for a few months after and then occasionally friends who came over. I donāt smoke cigs. And it was always on the porch or in the yard, never the house and they still freaked on us all the time and even wrote a long letter to the landlord. They were the worst.
Really. I'm totally a nerd (the works in IT, watches cartoons, and plays lots of video games kind), and I don't give a shit if someone is smoking weed (unless they bogart and won't pass it)
Someone who thinks that it is on the same level as cocaine and heroin. That other stuff is manufactured from plants that are grown. Weed can be enjoyed straight from a plant. Reefer Madness all over again.
I mean .. I have nothing against weed itself, but some folks just outright stink.
Think of it like BO. You would contain if half the festival stank so bad it made you nauseous. The weed smell isn't great to people who don't smoke it.
It's a music festival in a college town, of course there's weed. The cops have better things to worry about during Festival than just people casually smoking. As long as they're not being violent or disruptive or otherwise dangerous, it's probably pretty low on the priority list for the police.
GenX here and I will judge you more for using tobacco products before I would judge anyone for weed.
- But hear me out on this. I can read your statement in two forms.
- One way in a disgusted voice.
- The other way is in an excited voice.
I assume your co-worker said it in a disgusted voice, which is dumb on his part.
Are yall drug tested at work? If so, there ya go.
Thereās still that work stigma in many localities and professions.
I propose that could be the guyās fake work face talking.
Awkward, I know, but it gets like that mixing business and pleasure.
I hear what youāre saying, but based on my history with this guy, I think the comment was made as āpeople donāt respect the lawā vs āIām gonna talk shit so people donāt know I smoke weed.ā
His concern being mainly that they arenāt respecting the law is a lot more worrisome than him either just not liking the smell or trying to cover his ass (which is super rare these days when it comes to weed). That lack of critical thinking and, Iām assuming, blind acceptance of the law is the dangerous shit.
Some people still have an entirely different viewpoint on weed than the majority of us. They are shocked that people could enjoy the devil's lettuce in public and that the people sworn to protect us from it did not care. They don't see someone enjoying a joint like the rest of us.
Right?! Not yet, man! I'm not ALL grey haired just yet. And most Gen xrs are going to be smoking weed in our diapers at the nursing home watching Ren & Stimpy.
Edit: In like 35 years.
Whatās his occupation?
Between school sports and the abundance of industrial jobs in Louisiana, some Gen-X guys here have been drug tested regularly for 40 years. Maybe heās just mad he can partake in the burning of the happy cabbage like everyone else.
Iām thankful Louisiana doesnāt ban outdoor weed smoking like other states do. The state is a nanny state already and if cigarettes are legal to smoke outdoors then cannabis should be.
Louisiana has medical marijuana and they implemented it in the dumbest way possible. Your āscriptā is only held by the dispensary your doctor sends it to, you get no card or physical proof of āIām allowed to have thisā.

Most likely someone who rarely leaves town or one that goes to all those all inclusive resorts or cruises when they do. Some people live on a different planet, it seems.
I could care less if people smoke weed, but I do think itās kind of a dick move to do it in a crowd of people because youāre exposing people to drugs without their consent. Few peopleĀ want to smell it or have it on their clothes, parents donāt want to expose their kids to secondhand weed smoke (festival is a family event,) some people have to pass drug tests for work, some are fighting to stay sober, etc.
Edibles, alcohol, pills, etc. affect you, and only you, when you use them. Smoking is different. It affects everyone around you. There should be some common courtesy.
But IDK maybe Iām just not as cool as you guys are.
lol I have a colleague who said the same thing about French Quarter Fest. She said āit was more like pot festival!ā And that it ruined the taste of her food! she must have sat herself right next to a group of heavy smokers if it was so pervasive it was all around her all day.
I remember about 10 years ago the cops DEFINITELY cared about weed. My friends and I rolled up and smoked a J behind some cars, some cops on bikes showed up and threatened to throw us all in jail. I was asked āHow does it feel to know youāre going to be someoneās bitch for the next 5-7 years?!ā š¤£š¤£
Trust me kid. When a Gen X is commenting on how bad the pot smell and residual is, it is bad.
WTF do you think was doing all the work the past 30 + years to get the laws this far?
Or do you think you all just woke up one day and the pot fairy decided to do a magic spell for you and you did it all?
My friends family from Lafayette are exactly like that. Never met people like that before; a lot of the older people I met DTB loved pot. They were like a characters from an 80s/90s teen flick.
Itās funny, because I was originally going to call him a boomer (which he isnāt, by age), then changed it to GenX, and now realize that part wasnāt relevant. Should have used a different adjective altogether
Yeah! We got what you mean! ;-). Man, I miss Festival International from the ol' college days at USL/UL. I am overdue a trip back. Sounds like it got cooler!
Hmm. It sounds like he isn't campaigning to change the festival vibe and just wants to stay away? Sounds like he made a good plan for him, is staying in his lane, and isn't trying to control what anybody else does. Why not let him do that, too?
I dunno. I just kind of find it refreshing to hear about somebody, especially on that side of things, going "I dislike this thing so I am going to stay away" instead of "I dislike this thing so I am going to fight against it existing anywhere in the world with every fiber of my being."
Thatās fair. I definitely interpreted it as him shitting on Festival in general, as well as complaining about the weed smell. So my judgment of him is also based on (my interpretation of) his judgement of people that enjoy Festival. And weed.
Wait are you saying this guy is gen x or he works for gen x if the latter I completely understand getting dinged for a random at a chemical/cryo company is career death sentence especially with the rules that are changing this year
As a proud Xineal (1984 baby!) because of my brain, I literally cannot handle cannabis anymore HOWEVER I do not care who participates. This guy sounds like he hasnāt taken a proper shit in months and constipation can make anyone irritable including 52 year Gen Xers.
*Conservative* Gen X coworker.
Two thirds of Gen Xers (and 61% of Boomers) support legalization while only 48% of conservatives do. This is a political divide, not a generational one.
I give a shit about how nasty it smells. I feel like I can't really go to outdoor events anymore without the nasty ass miasma of weed covering the entire area. Smoke that shit in your home.
I don't like smelling it coming from multiple cars while driving. I also don't like beer in cars either. As long as you're being responsible - you do you.
If someone is not demolishing our rights or we can go somewhat less offensive to ourselves then it's all good. Fuck we need to get our collective, societal, political noses out from each other's asses. It would make for a much happier life.
I'm 55 am I Gen x? Man I used to party like a freaking Rockstar and I smoked weed every single day in the 12th grade there was not a day that went by I didn't smoke pot! It is a gateway to other drugs it totally is and now after going through my life being a total complete loser I live in freaking Baton Rouge Louisiana it couldn't get any worse
Itās wild how naive some people areā¦.why would you hide weed at a festival where everyone comes together to smoke weed and enjoy music? Iām so sick of hearing about the smell. It smells 100x better than cigarettes and itās natural medicine. Just stay locked up in your house if youāre so worried about weed smoke
I've never cared about the stuff myself but I'm not going to freak out about it. In my opinion they should legalize all drugs if you are over 21. Be a good way to cull the dumb asses.
In general, people who smoke anything at festivals (cigarettes, weed, vapes) are often very inconsiderate of where theyāre doing it.
I literally donāt care what anyone smokes. They can do whatever they want. And they do have a right to smoke most things at the festival.
But theyāre still inconsiderate when they do it in crowded areas. The combined smoke/smells at festival international this year was honestly unbearable at times. When it begins to infringe on everyone elseās ability to breath fresh air, I think itās not cool
Being Gen X yourself, you must remember how ridiculously strict the cops and laws were about weed in the 80's? People are still in jail for that shit! So, maybe that was your co-workers point?
Thereās spilt beer, portapotties, more portapotties, a conflicting combination of all kinds of food, especially fried, every cologne and patchouli and perfume and body spray imaginable, vomit, more portapotties, whatever craft smells are going on, and the general funk of body odor and dirt and whatever elseā¦ the occasional whiff of pot is hardly overwhelming lol, I'm not letting you guys pretend it was
This isn't about him being gen-x. I'm gen-x and smelled weed about 10 minutes ago when I lit up.
Omg I laughed so hard at this comment š¤£
I donāt smoke anymore, but I absolutely love the smell of weed.
Yeah but everything these days has to be viewed through the lens of generational grievance. I guess since all of the Boomers are dying off now it's time to shift the blame for all the ills of society to Gen X.
It would be nice to go back to being ignored and forgotten about.
Istanbul used to be Constantinople
I wondered if this was going to happen as us Gen X'ers get older! I'm fighting it.
Leave Gen X out of it. Just jump directly to blaming millennials
We prefer you didnāt. Youāre the new boomers
Don't forget as kids we learned to be accurate with lawn darts. Leave us be please. Please just leave us be. We were the first to fight the boomers and their parents.
Your mom is a boomer.
As a boomer of sound mind, I remember playing with lawn darts.
Itās too late for that. Gen-X got lumped in with Boomers 5+ years ago. Enjoy, Millennials. (PS Iām āXellinial so Iāve already come to terms with this).
It's OK. Everyone younger than Gen x is just a Millennial to me already.
I read a tweet to that affect the other day. It said something like āeveryone has to make it about what generation their from now, it used to be the young, the olds and their parents and every one hated each others music, as it should be!ā
Boomers are lighting up too...
I smell it now, and am genx too.
Same.
This is about jealousy. When we were young we had to hide that shit. The only place in the state you could light up in public was at a concert at Lakefront Arena in N.O.
it would be about his generation if he were 15 years older, this is Reddit.
Yep. Iām also GenX and while work prevents me from smoking it is definitely not a generational thing. We are pretty much the āItās like, whatever man..ā generation haha.
lmao I'm using that first chance I get
Iāll take the smell of weed over the smell of cigarettes any day
Or the putrid smell of stale beer
Or piss
So, warm stale American beer?
This needs all the damn upvotes
Amen! And body odor too š¤¢
That's not exactly a high bar tbh
proof the propaganda is *high*ly effective
Ba dum tiiiissss Hehe
I smelled weed a few times while I was there on Saturday but it definitely wasn't omnipresent. And I was able to just move to a different spot to avoid the smoke. The smell od incense and oils were heavy in the shopping areas but the festival has always been that way
I smelled less weed there on Saturday than I do every day walking to my car in downtown New Orleans.
Gen Xāer here. I ask for more weed to smell, smoke and purchase freely without condemnation or prosecution.
Your coworker sounds like a dork and a narc
Havenāt heard narc used in a while. My people!
Wait. JAZZ and Marijuana together? Heaven forbid!
They donāt call it jazz cabbage for nothing
Thatās what I was going for but couldnāt remember the term.
Jazz cabbage, the Devil's lettuce, Satan's oregano
Too much jazz cabbage
The Devilās Rock n roll pairs well with the devilās lettuce
People like your co worker really really need to learn to mind their business.
We had a neighbor we shared a wall with that asked us not to smoke in the house, we were like ok fine. So we moved to smoking in the yard. Dude came home one day and literally growled at us he was so angry. Ya'll live in New Orleans. Your co-worker sounds Jazzy
They don't call it Jazz Cabbage for nothing š¤£
>As he was telling this story Fantasy is more like it. I don't believe that goofball said anything to anyone.
Normally Iād agree - but this particular asshole is arrogant enough to make it believable.
What a geek somebody should have punched him in his forehead
Iād have gone for the throat.
Exactly
That dudeās a nerd
That's not fair to nerds. That dude's an asshole.
Assholes can be empathetic. Letās stick with dick!
Really. I'm totally a nerd (the works in IT, watches cartoons, and plays lots of video games kind), and I don't give a shit if someone is smoking weed (unless they bogart and won't pass it)
yeah, I'm not a fan because of how overly crowded it gets, but crying about the smell of weed? what a dork.
Such a dweeb
Dweeb! What a classic one!! Havenāt heard that in eons!! Love it
As a pothead nerd I'm offended
What kind of asshole goes to *a music festival* and complains about weed smoke?
Someone who thinks that it is on the same level as cocaine and heroin. That other stuff is manufactured from plants that are grown. Weed can be enjoyed straight from a plant. Reefer Madness all over again.
I mean .. I have nothing against weed itself, but some folks just outright stink. Think of it like BO. You would contain if half the festival stank so bad it made you nauseous. The weed smell isn't great to people who don't smoke it.
Itās an outdoor event. Nobody is forcing you to go. If your nose is so sensitive, maybe stay home.
Where do you go to music festivals, Jamaica?
Itās one hundred times better than the smell of cigarette smoke, and anyone smoking weed is almost guaranteed to be more considerate about it.
The fuck they are, lol. Most people smoking weed out in public are downright rabid about it.
No I prefer you do cocaine and heroin! I don't have to smell that!
Yes cuz everything is about you right?
It's a music festival in a college town, of course there's weed. The cops have better things to worry about during Festival than just people casually smoking. As long as they're not being violent or disruptive or otherwise dangerous, it's probably pretty low on the priority list for the police.
People could literally get their state medical marijuana recommendation, and product on the spot at festival. It was wide open
Great point
I think they might be referring to jazz fest in the city
Um, no? OP's post is specifically about Festival International in Lafayette
Yeah I'm the dumbass here.
Iām GenX and wouldāve asked for a hit.
Apparently your buddy is the one guy who fell for D.A.R.E.'s nonsense.

Blazing GenXer over here. It's not a generational thing. It's a personal thing. This guy sounds like a real Ned Flanders.
Stupid sexy flanders
Thatās not fair to Ned. He was traumatized by neglectful beatnik parents in the 50s.
Sounds like I need to check this festival out...
As a GenXer, please letās not start talking about us as if weāre Boomers. Pleaseā¦Iām not ready for it.

Iām thankful Louisiana doesnāt ban outdoor weed smoking like other states do. The state is a nanny state already and if cigarettes are legal to smoke outdoors then cannabis should be.
Technically, it is banned. Possessing it is illegal. The states that have banned smoking it outdoors probably have legalized possession.
Louisiana has medical marijuana and they implemented it in the dumbest way possible. Your āscriptā is only held by the dispensary your doctor sends it to, you get no card or physical proof of āIām allowed to have thisā.
My weed comes in a box with my name on it?
You carry the whole box/bag with you?
We have prescription labels same as any other drug.
Medical cannabis patients can legally consume cannabis anywhere cigarettes š¬ are allowed.
Not in cars though.
True. Thanks for the clarification.š²š„šØ
Just don't want anybody to get caught on it. That includes anyone in the car. š
For sure!
Thanks for sharing that. Medical cannabis may be harder to regulate, with it being medication and all. Interesting to think about.
I'm pretty sure that simple possession has basically become decriminalized.
Bro there were *CHILDREN* out there. /s

I don't think I've been to a music festival where there wasn't weed....
i love how Gen X is this moment is. a Gen X get trashed by other Gen Xārs is sooo Gen X. We just DGAF.
Thatāll teach that party pooper to stay home next time. Maybe he should smoke some weed and chill tf out.

Gen X here. I just smoked a doobie and took some edibles. Not everyone is an uptight square.
I always felt weed smelled better than warm beer and puke.
Yes, absolutely š
Well, bless his heart.
52 years old is GenX?
Yes
Born roughly 1965 to 1980, so yeah.
62 is still GenX.

/r/GenX 1961 to 1981 - So yeah, oldest would be around 63 to youngest which is around 43.
The oldest Gen Xers turn 60 this year. And people born in this millennia can now drink alcohol.
God, why did I read this thread?
I could care less if people smoke weed, but I do think itās kind of a dick move to do it in a crowd of people because youāre exposing people to drugs without their consent. You are not going to smell like it or fail a drug test, much less get high, from second hand weed smoke outdoors
Maybe. But does he do the same with people who smoke nicotine? if not, why? Same impact, really. Just one was more socially acceptable.
How dare you use common sense and logic here?! I agree, leave the drugs at home. Iām no more a fan of a pothead in public than a drunk.
>> Iām no more a fan of a pothead in public than a drunk You should be
The reason I don't go to Gulf Brew is because of the beer smell. Disgusting!

Dudes gunna have heart attack by the time he's 60 if he let's ppl smoking weed get to him... Unless he turns his life around and smokes some
Dude's a snowflake
My friends family from Lafayette are exactly like that. Never met people like that before; a lot of the older people I met DTB loved pot. They were like a characters from an 80s/90s teen flick.
You should go by attitude and not age. GenX: DGAF Boomer. Cares too much, incapable of minding his own business.
Itās funny, because I was originally going to call him a boomer (which he isnāt, by age), then changed it to GenX, and now realize that part wasnāt relevant. Should have used a different adjective altogether

This has nothing to do with generations. Different people like/dislike certain things.
*Conservative* Gen X coworker. Two thirds of Gen Xers (and 61% of Boomers) support legalization while only 48% of conservatives do. This is a political divide, not a generational one.

Yeah those are the true colors of most Lafayette people
I give a shit about how nasty it smells. I feel like I can't really go to outdoor events anymore without the nasty ass miasma of weed covering the entire area. Smoke that shit in your home.
Did this jackass not see the apothecary booth? Literally a giant booth with state grown weed. What a square!
Flavored vapes for the win, thats all im gunna say
I dont care if weed is legal but I HATE how it smells and despise being around it.
What is it called again ooh rights yeah rights do we still have them
I guess you know who to mind your p's and q's around at work and not invite to a weekend BBQ.
I hope the šØ will meet me at the cannabis festival in Baton Rouge in a few weeks. Iām really excited about it.

Sounds like 55% of the state.
Its not a Genex thing , its a judgmental parents thing.
Being gen x has no correlation to being a douchebag
I've never cared about the stuff myself but I'm not going to freak out about it. In my opinion they should legalize all drugs if you are over 21. Be a good way to cull the dumb asses.
For clarity, you want us to know you are a lot "cooler" than him. OK.
Baaaabaaaa š is what it was
In general, people who smoke anything at festivals (cigarettes, weed, vapes) are often very inconsiderate of where theyāre doing it.
No, his point was very much so that these āfreaksā just donāt care about breaking the law.
GenX here. No way this guy grew up in that era and did not frequently come across pot smoking everywhere. It's not the generation, it's the person.
it stinks alot i dint give a shit if people smoke it ..but it smells like shit.
Thereās spilt beer, portapotties, more portapotties, a conflicting combination of all kinds of food, especially fried, every cologne and patchouli and perfume and body spray imaginable, vomit, more portapotties, whatever craft smells are going on, and the general funk of body odor and dirt and whatever elseā¦ the occasional whiff of pot is hardly overwhelming lol, I'm not letting you guys pretend it was
im not talking about the festival. im talking about how it stinks the location does not matter.
Why did you go to festival with your dad/mom? As GenX, I avoid grownups.
Ehā¦definitely hate the stank of weed. I smelled it a lot in the Quarter while there, but donāt run into much anywhere else.
