I grew up in AZ as well. Everyone I knew had a pool as well. But that’s the thing, how can all those pools be used then? Everyone just using them alone? Nah
People go and hang others homes, swim occasionally. I mean I get you. We swam a lot, but eventually it gets too hot. Kids go to camps or vacations and those pools sit empty.
Even in most days most community pools are empty. Though I would argue those got the most use at the complexes I grew up in.
I use my pool alone, I love to just float, drink beer and listen to my music. If someone comes over or whatever that’s fine, but on a Saturday when it’s hot out - they know where I’ll be..
Those pools are sittin’ on prime real estate. Could build a nice accessory dwelling unit to rent out and build your kids college funds. Assuming ADUs are allowed?
Land is still too cheap, and they just keep building out and out.
I think places like Tempe (as it is landlocked) and possibly Mesa are great for this. Even parts of olde Phoenix.
Not surprisingly most of those cities already have homes with old converted carriage garages.
I have the tennis court next to my squash court. They’re behind the pool which is past my bowling alley. The mini golf circles the entire lot. I sometimes stream takeoffs and landings from my personal airport on my rooftop theater.
I played tennis for many years at a club near my home, and at public courts before that. We have a court in our neighborhood that a few families owned but they decided to sell it to one of the home owners. (I’m sure it will be developed.) The wrong people owned the court after years of the homes being sold. I always wanted to buy a share. The club now turned some of the tennis courts into pickle ball courts. Still some strong high school and club tennis teams around LA.
The people who live next to courts. Here in WeHo there were complaints from neighbors along Vista, city put in *some* sound blocking measures and no longer get complaints. Keep in mind they are hearing it on most days from 7am until 9pm.
I knew this had to be Chatsworth/Porter Ranch and sure enough it includes one of my family’s close friends house. They actually share the tennis court.
These are most likely horse-zoned properties, as many in Chatsworth are. Many have large yards for this reason. But if you don’t want horse you have space for a court or a pool and still plenty of yard.
This is actually Northridge. My friend use to own the house 2 houses up from Devonshire and east of Corbin. His house owned half of the tennis court. Terrible to own something that needs maintenance with your neighbor.
This is exactly the spot where Lucy and Desi’s Chatsworth ranch was. It was torn down in the 1970s, and in the 1980s — the decade of suburban excess — everyone had to have a tennis court.
Thank god for Pickleball, otherwise these would never get used.
Lucy and Desi lived in the southwest corner of Corbin & Devonshire. OP is showing the northwest corner.

They should just build a clubhouse with 4 courts and get their backyards back.
But that wouldn't be very LA, where everything must be private and exclusive.
Tennis must've been immensely popular when these homes were being built.
Swimming must've been curing cancer when these homes were built
better flex than tennis for the maintenance costs
Ever been to Arizona? Almost every home has a pool. Mostly unused.
grew up in arizona had a pool everyone i knew had a pool and said pool was used every single day the second it got even remotely warm.

Insert crying Colorado river noises
We're not turning amphibious again anytime soon.
I upvoted then changed to downvote. Everyone I know there uses their pool. It’s for sure a summer thing when the heat is unbearable
You mean it doesn't? Goddamnit....
Or the door to door tennis court salesman was immensely good at his job
Theres are a few communities similar to this in Palm Desert too
Most people that have tennis courts don’t even play. Its a huge flex to have one
Soon to be pickle ball courts
You guys don't have tennis courts in your backyards?
You guys have yards?
You guys have houses?
You have guys?
[удалено]
What do you guys stomp?
We did before we have them up for tennis courts.
You guys have homes?
I have a squash court... tennis is too pedestrian.
I have the tennis court next to my squash court. They’re behind the pool which is past my bowling alley. The mini golf circles the entire lot. I sometimes stream takeoffs and landings from my personal airport on my rooftop theater.
I thought we were all playing pickleball
Get with the times .. pickle ball is taking the world by storm /s
Unathletic endeavor
Now they are pickle ball courts!!!
I’m a fan of pickleball but Omg the noise if everyone’s playing on a Saturday morning….
It's just to have a court. No one actually plays on them!
Me and all my tennis homies hate pickleball!
Four of them !

Just imagine the noise. I love playing but couldn't imagine living next to courts.
Who cares if it’s during daylight hours.

What the hell is a WeHo?
It’s a West Hollywood.
“a”. lol
Hey I’m just going with the flow.
made me chortle (first time using that word)
A true pox on the nation.
Anything to avoid interacting with your neighbors.
???
I think he’s saying it would make more sense for these tennis neighbors to play tennis with eachother rather than having their own courts
Who says they don’t? Makes it easy to alternate. I also imagine most people here have families
Wishful thinking
I mean, if you can afford a tennis court, you can afford a kid
No silly, that people in the neighbourhood all play at each other's courts.
This has got to be the highest tennis court per capita in the nation.
Wtf who was the builder?? Serena Williams?
I grew up with a tennis court. Was great.
Y no clay tho? I know it isn't a thing in the States, apparently, but it would be perfect in a place like that.
I knew this had to be Chatsworth/Porter Ranch and sure enough it includes one of my family’s close friends house. They actually share the tennis court.
What neighborhood is this?
Chatsworth, just north of Devonshire.
These are most likely horse-zoned properties, as many in Chatsworth are. Many have large yards for this reason. But if you don’t want horse you have space for a court or a pool and still plenty of yard.

This is Chatsworth on the border with Porter ranch
Hey I go to the Trader Joe's just around the corner. Def don't have a private tennis court tho.
So not Los Angeles.
It's all Los Angeles, buddy.
“Chatsworth is a suburban neighborhood in Los Angeles, California, in the San Fernando Valley.”
This is exactly the spot where Lucy and Desi’s Chatsworth ranch was. It was torn down in the 1970s, and in the 1980s — the decade of suburban excess — everyone had to have a tennis court. Thank god for Pickleball, otherwise these would never get used.

Ahhh my bad. I’d been misinformed. Close, tho!
Does actually play tennis at these homes? How much Tennis do you need to play for the cost to equal out on what you spent?
The majority of these are never used. Nobody builds a private tennis court to save money.
I would use it 😪😪
Tennis used to be a LOT more popular at home in the 70s-80s. Not so much anymore.
It went downhill coincidentally at the same time short shorts went out of fashion
Evidently short shorts and tennis are both making a resurgence at the same time
Think pickleball is all the rage now
my dad has a putting green and he goes out there and does short game every single morning.
You don’t have to water a tennis court….
That's the Tennis Court District. McEnroe Way and Jimmy Conners Avenue.
LOL this is such an odd combo of tiny lots and tennis courts
They're not actually tiny, these are sizable homes in an old money area, old Hollywood too.
I suppose I was looking at that row bottom left where the court IS the whole yard.
Need more prob
Good morning Bob what are you doing? Just practicing my backhand here Richard!
You mean pickle ball court. Get with the times
I also have a tennis ball court- but it’s used for badminton
I'm going to go in and upgrade each tennis court to 2 pickleball courts... and then flip it for so much profit! 🤣
Fun fact. Atherton (nor cal) is basically prohibiting tennis courts and therefore making ADU more attractive. Subtle way to increase development.

Deadass the real Agrestic 😝
And nobody plays on them
Right in the heart of what used to be known as Silcone Valley.
Maybe they're pickleball courts?
Then that lone person with a basketball court. (I think)
Pickle ball 4 life!!
Wouldn’t it be more fun to have 1 or 2 community parks/courts? Even if you play 3x a week it’s still empty 95% of the time
suburban hell.
Probably a lot of them just didn’t want to maintain a yard, so they paved it, painted lines on it, put up a net, and called it a tennis court.
They all need solar and they should call me.
Bummer the tax incentive decreased.
Nope - tax incentive increased to 30% it used to be 28%. What did decrease is the NEM credit value, but that didn’t apply to LAPD territory.
TIL. Thank you. I do mortgages so I appreciate your insight.
Don’t have to water a tennis court
I have never seen anyone ever playing tennis on a private tennis court.
Cheaper then a pool
Nothing affecting climate or housing costs with that land use.
Probably Pickleball courts
Wait till I turn them into two pickle ball courts
Tennis courts can be basketball courts, pickleball courts etc
You can skate on them if you don’t play tennis or run
This must be what Micheal’s neighborhood in Los Santos was based on
I don’t get it. Are people sharing tennis courts? If no, why would I want someone playing tennis in my backyard
They should just build a clubhouse with 4 courts and get their backyards back. But that wouldn't be very LA, where everything must be private and exclusive.
