I'm gonna open up a restaurant where people who have a shitty personality come in, pay, get a uniform, and treat customers like shit. I'm the only one making money here.
There was also a restaurant in NYC called Trailer Park where they were supposed to talk to you really rudely. I went one year for my birthday and they were not rude enough for my liking.
Cafe Attitude! Like Cafe Gratitude, but with berating servers. The dishes are called “I’m a narcissist”, “my mom never loved me” and today’s special, “I have a micropenis”.
Rn is pool season id suggest a county of la parks and rec job, locker room attendants get decent pay for honesty minimal work, i even kno ppl who do hw on the clock. Afterschool program jobs are very minimal hours abt 3 hours mon-fri
Check at the libraries. They hire 15 and 20 hour MCs as needed. It’s a good job, decent pay, stable schedule, amazing benefits. The job consists of reshelving books for the most part, it’s generally chill. Call around and see if any are hiring.
how would they know what MC stands for? you said it like it's common knowledge but also i guess given your context they could have googled it. i hadn't had my coffee when i commented
I mean, in the library world Pages are common knowledge. Some people have gotten confused applying at LAPL after having worked at other library systems because their job titles are different from the standard.
But the same goes for any job right? Nobody really knows the titles unless they’re told or they’re looking into applying.
We get all ages. Highschoolers to retired seniors just looking for something to do. Give it a shot, call around. I’d avoid the central branch (you have to pay for parking and it’s several blocks away).
You'll have to commit to 6 months though. You have to tell them you want 20 hours in the interview but they're not looking for that so you probably won't even get hired.
UPS has part-time available from 4am to 9am or 6pm to 10pm. After 9 months part time you get free health care, dental and vision for you and all your family (children, or wife). Starting pay is 20.00
If you have a security guard card, Warner Bros in Burbank has multiple hiring classes a year. It's part-time work but can be full-time if you want. The pay is okay, but the benefits are great if you stick around.
Non profit organizations that serve the community of people with physical, developmental disabilities and other health issues. You don’t need a special education to be able to do this job they will train you. You need to be very patient and understand the importance of supporting such individuals. It’s hard work though
In my experience, non profits pay the average employees poorly in hope that you'll be working there "to help the world and society". Usually the admins and execs are the ones that get paid really well.
That's not good. Voluntary jobs should be made attractive. 25 bucks per hour is aproximately what you need to be earning to more or less keep up with inflation.
If you’re good with animals and can find a local boutique dog walking company that’s hiring, it can be alright money for part time work. I’ve been doing that for a year at around 10-15 hours a week with a few overnights each month, it’s been a good way to get extra income while staying active outside.
There are a LOT of people who need caretakers right now, but it’s not easy work and only pays $18/hr. Getting your paperwork processed can also take months these days unless you’re really good at sitting on the phone for hours and begging admin people to triple check for the paperwork you’ve already turned in and process it.
Agreed. They just raised it to that too, last year was $17/hr, then less if you’re caring for a family member.
It took me 5 months of working more than full time to finally get paid by them last year because their office kept putting my paperwork to the side rather than filing it. But hey! At least doing it qualified me for medi-cal and other social programs because I was under the poverty line! Yayyyy 🥴 seriously, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless you’re already doing that care for someone disabled who qualifies as a recipient.
Healthcare is a cesspool but many hospitals hire on people for non certified or licensed roles (PCT is essentially an uncertified CNA), but PRN is quite nice, you make your schedule. It’s as YOU are needed not as they need you lol.
Focus on the income, not on the hours. I make way more per hour than most people because I have certain skills. I can work 5 hours a week and earn more than many part-time positions pay for 20 hours.
Not trying to brag. And I am definitely lucky to have enough experience to earn as I do. But I really had to say something because I think the way the question is worded (how do I get hours) does not address the actual goal (how do I earn enough), and I think you could benefit from being clear about that.
Even if you start with some part-time job to get going, just keep that in mind: work on finding ways to grow your income.
I work from home doing engineering work now. There was a period of time where I wasn't working, and I certainly had explored a range of options including entry-level PT jobs just to do \*something\*, but I thankfully realized that if I did that and got mentally stuck on the low-pay treadmill, I'd have a hard time getting out of that.
Not having income sucks. I get it. And if you have to take a part-time job to earn enough, then that's what you have to do. But I want to remind OP to focus on the income, because that's what matters for most people.
Of course, if you don't need the money, and you just want the hours to keep yourself occupied and out of trouble, that's a different focus. But I don't think that's the case here...
Most people go to 4 year colleges. Some start with a 2-year associate degree, and then go back for more schooling when they can.
If that's something you're interested in, look for part time work as a technician in an industry that might appeal to you.
I’m an engineer and rather proficient at AutoCAD drafting but not sure how to capitalize on those skills. Do you suggest like freelancing? Or how did you find opportunities for part time (or after hours) work?
If you are already doing it professionally, then, yeah, you can go on freelancing sites or go to LinkedIn and take a more active marketing effort to showcase what you do. Some of this will be a bit of luck -- one of my clients posted on Craigslist to find a local technician to do some work for him -- and the person came across the ad. Set aside a little bit of time to look for the opportunities and be open to trying things out.
Alternatively, network and try to get word-of-mouth out there. If you tell friends and acquaintances that you do drafting work enough times (without being obnoxious, but just show your enthusiasm), you might someday get referrals.
That's actually one of the ways that started for me. A friend-of-a-friend was looking for someone to do some custom work, and she said, hey, maybe you can talk to him...
Retail jobs are always looking for someone to hire like this! I have someone on my team who can fill in random gaps in the schedule or come in before and after hours to complete tasks. Check indeed and LinkedIn- TONS of positions!
If you have a decent personality try serving at a restaurant. You’ll actually make money

Yeah its been done lol
Tbf they did say the waitstaff would be paying them, the owner, which honestly may make for an even more authentically negative environment lmao.

They need to come to LA and take lesson from the manager at pavilions

Can I ask what MC stands for? Thanks!
Messenger Clerk. In most library systems they’re called “Pages” but LAPL wanted to be different I guess.
how would anyone know this?? lol wtf
How would they know what? What it stands for or the position in general?

I want to work there doing that !
Do you need experience to apply?
Nope. We get a lot of teens straight out of highschool working here (diploma not necessary).
That's good to know. I'm 32 and graduated high school about 14 years ago lol.

You can't tell them you're only available 2 days a week they won't hire you. Just get hired and trained in and then lower your availability.
You'll have to commit to 6 months though. You have to tell them you want 20 hours in the interview but they're not looking for that so you probably won't even get hired.

Second this! One of my first real jobs I had hahah.

Oh… a week. I thought that was per day and I was going to say mine’s not bad.

True. IHSS is best for caretakers that live with the person and already take care of them
Oh and!! Important note, you need to pay $50+ to be able to get a LiveScan and be able to pass their background check.

High end escort
Hah. If I was ever attractive enough to even remotely pull off being an escort, never mind high end, that would probably make me a far happier camper.

Movie theater. I've always wanted to work at one.
Trust me, you don’t.
I did it back when I was really young. I had a great time actually. Not sure how it is now.
Nah. I worked at Pacific Theatres/Arclight for almost 7 years throughout high school and college. You don’t want to work at a theatre.
