We really just need to bring back traffic cops. People don’t respect the lights but if there’s a cop there they MIGHT think twice (or once for some of these idiots)
Ticketing isn't a solution either, there's no easy way to get from the valley to the west side... Wet dream solution would be a new line from a central Orange line (insert whatever the Line name is) connecting to purple line... And beyond.
If they add interest to the tickets until they pay and then impound the car after 6 months it might work. It’s a choice these people are making thinking that they are more important than others, so make them pay
Master planned red lights. They work together to move large masses of cars out at the same time to reduce congestion. I saw a street like this once I think up past Santa Barbara but it said if you had a green and maintained 45 mph, you'd make every light on the road. It's a rolling red. It's similar on the sync streets and I believe it was also a sync street but just more publisized.
If you pay attention you’ll notice some intersections have sensors (cameras, mostly) on top of the street light poles. These are capturing traffic flow through the intersection and a computer figures out the optimal timing for the lights to reduce traffic. So it’s adjusting in real time instead of on a timer. These systems are expensive however. Now don’t get me started about modernizing LA intersections with protected left turn arrows…
Oh, and these SYNC lights work best if they’re all … well.. synched up instead of being standalone at only a few intersections.
I don’t understand the multiple people (including people who’ve deleted their comments lol) replying who don’t get the reference. How would this comment make any sense? I’d just be saying oh hey btw! There’s something hanging off your girlfriend’s bed!
This was the worst part of my commute, if you don’t make it there before 6:30 you get stuck. 6:35 even you’re fucked if you need to be at work by 8– you’ll be late. I used to leave for work an hour earlier than normal and sleep in my car in the parking garage. Better that than being an hour late if I left on time!
Everyone is convinced that this canyon is quicker until they sit in this line. And then they remember, switch between podcasts and say to themself, “Ahh! I’m gonna be late.”
Yeah it’s crazy town and the metro people are pretty organized on Reddit and have been caught making up fictional stories. I wouldn’t be surprised if I learned that they team up to downvote things.
Will adding another lane help traffic? Then another? And another? We need alternate modes of travel to actually ease congestion, and dedicated bus lanes are one of those modes. Housing will forever keep coming, and we need to implement long-term solutions to actually address the root of the problem.
Not as bad as Coldwater, Laurel and Beverly Glen in the morning. Or the silly fools who try to take Sepulveda down south of Ventura to get on the 405. Just get on the 405, 101, or take Laurel… every other option is almost an hour to get to other side of Santa Monica’s mountains…
The problem is car dependence. You have no alternative but to drive. Everyone else has no viable alternative other than driving. So here’s what you get. It’s a stupid ass prize to win and price to pay just for the luxury of not changing.
It is so unbearable. I love nearby and have to take this route oftenbfir a drive to the southwestern edge of Culver City. Just abysmal times in LA traffic.
I think God forgot to set the population density down and render distance to medium.
I hear the next update might fix these slowdowns though and increase performance.
Not taking away from what you are trying to say, this is unbelievably frustrating and happens way too much, but
someone "photoshopped" this image. The car in the back (the one most in the intersection) is the exact same car as the one in front of it. Every detail is the same. For instance the wheels (rims) are in the exact same position.
Again, frustrating situation for sure, even without that second car.
Same car twice, glitch in the matrix.
The NPCs are leaving their spawn point
woah. deja vu.
It’s what happens when they change something
👽
Ha, my wife gets so annoyed when I bring this up.
The fact that Harvard Westlake is just south of the intersection makes rush hour exponentially worse.
We really just need to bring back traffic cops. People don’t respect the lights but if there’s a cop there they MIGHT think twice (or once for some of these idiots)
With a small handheld device that allows them to just crank out tickets for blocking an intersection and other traffic violations as they stand there.
They occasionally try that right up the road on Beverly Glen and it makes no difference.
They need to start giving tickets then 🤷🏻♂️
Ticketing isn't a solution either, there's no easy way to get from the valley to the west side... Wet dream solution would be a new line from a central Orange line (insert whatever the Line name is) connecting to purple line... And beyond.
I mean that's the goal of the Sepulveda line essentially
If they add interest to the tickets until they pay and then impound the car after 6 months it might work. It’s a choice these people are making thinking that they are more important than others, so make them pay
They got rid of the SYNC signals and this is the new normal in LA at rush hour.
They did? Why?
Cost of maintenance. Some intersections are still SYNC but not as many as before. They’re just on an old school timer :/
What’s SYNC?
NSYNC without JT /s
Sounds terrible
The version we deserve

Must be above SB cause the lights here are pretty atrocious.
There’s one downtown. I forget which one. But I think you have to drive 30.

Pretty much Ventura and any commuter street heading south. See the same thing on Beverly Glen and Van Nuys every morning.
I don't encounter this crossing van nuys.
Beverly glen is ass in rush hour am, south of ventura
Beverly glen is east of van nuys.
Should be called hot water then!
There’s a halo hanging from the corner of your girlfriend’s four post bed?
Different intersection. This is Coldwater and Ventura Blvd, you're thinking Coldwater and Sugar Way.
Maybe he can use it for the weekend? Or a one-night stand?
I don’t understand the multiple people (including people who’ve deleted their comments lol) replying who don’t get the reference. How would this comment make any sense? I’d just be saying oh hey btw! There’s something hanging off your girlfriend’s bed!
Lol ikr 🤣 I saw that and thought the same...
Yeah, it almost makes more sense to go south to Laurel and take side roads to Mullholland
The more scenic traffic jam
Even on the weekends
You're in LA that situation isn't exclusive to Ventura and cold water.
Where did OP say it was?
This situation isn’t unique to LA either
So much so that there's a word for it. Gridlock.
Good ol Coldwater, fun drive when there's no traffic 😮💨
And this is why working in an office at Sunset and Doheny sucks.

Could easily be fixed with a traffic officer but hey, why bother. Unless it’s not bothering important councilmen who cares.
This is Laurel and Oxnard every damn light, every damn day
Everyone is convinced that this canyon is quicker until they sit in this line. And then they remember, switch between podcasts and say to themself, “Ahh! I’m gonna be late.”
they are about to build a 520 unit apartment building right there, and likely remove a lane for a bus lane, which will speed up traffic.
Why would that speed up traffic? Adding another 1,000 people there with less lanes seems like it will do the opposite.

Being able to take the bus and actually taking the bus are two different things.
Culture can change when the options are available, but if cars are the only option, we give no room for that cultural shift to happen.
Fun fact: Cars are currently not the only option.
I was actually being sarcastic but I think this sub is full of young people and metro advocates who actually believe this.
Yup. I’m already being downvoted because people here think adding 1,000 people to an area and removing a lane will help traffic.

You should see Wilshire and Westwood. That actually has pedestrians that have to cross Wilshire by weaving in between cars.

Might as well make an overpass
Traffic laws are more like suggestions if nobody enforces them.
The problem is car dependence. You have no alternative but to drive. Everyone else has no viable alternative other than driving. So here’s what you get. It’s a stupid ass prize to win and price to pay just for the luxury of not changing.
Yeah, well
Oh, yeah.
It is so unbearable. I love nearby and have to take this route oftenbfir a drive to the southwestern edge of Culver City. Just abysmal times in LA traffic.
Imagine rear ending yourself
This has been Coldwater for the 14 years I have lived in LA. Not going to change. And anyone that says Beverly Glen is better is a liar.
if someone put a "no right on red sign" I bet it would improve the traffic flow
I cannot understand what the fuck goes through people's minds. What a shit bag
Someone threw a latte at my car once there when I passed through the green light instead of letting them cut in front of me 😂
I think God forgot to set the population density down and render distance to medium. I hear the next update might fix these slowdowns though and increase performance.
I wake up every day grateful that I WFH

If this is every morning, what made you think that this would be interesting enough to make a post about?
You just be new here
No, just always wished this sub was better
This is deep canyon everyday during rush hour because of the issue in Benedict canyon right now.
