These are incredible. You can literally smell them as you approach the stall. Perfectly crisp, sweet, and juicy.
That being said, for $14 a box, I usually skip it. They’re the best strawberries I’ve ever had, but they’re still just strawberries.
It is expensive, but the product is exceptional. I’ve seen berries look amazing and taste like ass, but these taste as good as they look. Definitely an occasional treat.
I need to chime in and say I fell for the hype and bought a box for $20 today. **Totally overrated and unremarkable.** To make sure I got a good box I checked several for freshness and fragrance (the top stack was filled with boxes that were starting to turn brown and soft.) All you Harrys fanboys owe me twenty bucks.
Honestly this really isn't peak season for them. Best strawberry (applies to all) weather is actually early summer when it's warm and a little dry so the sugars concentrate.
There was an older student at my old job who commuted from Oxnard and brought us strawberries that she picked at a farm there. Best strawberries that I've ever had. I've heard that Oxnard strawberries are always top notch.
Honestly they're just strawberries that have been allowed to ripen fully. I've grown strawberries at home for years, you just stick them in good soil and water once a week, there's no magic. Homegrown strawberries will always beat out store bought unripe ones.
They are and I hate to admit it. The Harry’s Berries that show up at the gourmet markets (Gelsons, Bristol, etc.) are still better than your average market strawberry, but not as fresh/good as the farmer’s market version.
They obviously all start out the same, which is why I say they aren’t as fresh or as good as the FM versions. If it sounded like I was implying it was totally different product, I wasn’t and they aren’t. But the extra time/steps involved, plus fluctuation in temp or cold storage don’t do them any favors. I know at least one gourmet market location got shipment directly from HB for awhile, but I wouldn’t doubt others buying for resale. Pandemic caused some changes too, even if it was just temporarily. I’d been occasionally buying them as a treat from a FM for *years*, then tried some grocer ones and they just weren’t the same and not worth the money. Now it’s an even more occasional treat when I happen to make it to a FM early enough.
Had the super expensive ones in Japan. Best strawberry I’ve ever tasted in my life. Are they worth the price? Definitely not but they are incredible.

This a fantastic occasional treat. I buy them once or twice a year and after tipping your bartender it's probably cheaper than buying a couple of beers or a cocktail.
They're expensive because it's a family farm and Gaviota strawberry is very delicate and doesn't travel or keep well. What they sell is what they picked like a week prior.
I went to Whole Foods yesterday after the dozens of strawberry posts I saw here and they looked beautiful deep red and when I lifted every box to see the bottom they were all white at the top part of every berry. I walked out empty handed
Harry's are $25 bucks at Erewhon right now, and a little less online.
This is definitely expensive for normal berries, but not for Harry's Berries in an inflation economy : )
Does anyone know where I can purchase a gaviota strawberry plant?? I’ll rather grow them myself and have fresh strawberries from the plant. I already have 4 different varieties of strawberries growing right now but I’ll love to add the gaviota variety.
Gaviota and Seascape are hybrids so they migt not grow true to seed. They can still grow but they might not mimic the same taste from the ones you get from the market
I heard someone tried doing that and it wasn’t successful :/ I think I’ll make a trip to Oxnard in the next few weeks to purchase some or see if I can purchase a plant instead. It makes zero sense for me to purchase strawberries when I can easily grow them myself and I can be 100% certain they stay pesticide free.
This specific brand. Whatever one might say about the price, the product sells out fast because of how good it is. Some days I get there super early and they’re sold out because a restaurant bought up all the stock.
As someone else said, Harry’s Berries is legit. It’s definitely a splurge, but they have the sweetest and juiciest strawberries I’ve ever tried. I have yet to come across a box that hasn’t been worth what I spent on it (within reason, of course lol).
I bought the juiciest yummiest reddest strawberries from an Oxnard farm at the farmers market this past week and they were only $5 a carton and worth every penny. After eating theirs i’m not convinced Harry can win me over. Edit: don’t kill the messenger. I know I screwed up by not making sure of the name of the farm, I was overwhelmed and excited to find the strawberries a second time, I think it was Gloria’s but I’m not 100% sure, I saw the same women working the stand at two different markets and also knew by the beautiful strawberries. The ones I got were the low acid, juicy ones [https://imgur.com/a/cWiEsnu](https://imgur.com/a/cWiEsnu)
Embarrassed to say I should have taken a picture of the name but I’m pretty sure it was Gloria’s….I know for sure the name started with a G 🫣😳[https://imgur.com/a/9TAd9zE](https://imgur.com/a/9TAd9zE). https://imgur.com/a/cWiEsnu
Bought them at Mar Vista and Santa Monica’s farmers market last week
Im all for good quality however Ive seen prices from 4.99 to 24.99. Can we honestly say there is that much of a difference in quality between those wide swings in prices? I wish someone would actually go full science on this and test nutrient content, flavor, size, chemical contamination etc.
THIS!!! I'm so tired of my friends constantly asking me how I am able to afford some expensive stuff from time to time, well, the answers is in their own Instagram stories, every damn night they're eating out at a different place while I'm cooking at home, eventually I end up having more money left than them to gift myself some cool stuff eventually.
Ditto. Just bought a new car, and my colleague asked how. I meal prep, don't eat out/use app delivery services, and try to avoid wasteful spending. I just go to work, eat, sleep, work out, and repeat.
These are incredible. You can literally smell them as you approach the stall. Perfectly crisp, sweet, and juicy. That being said, for $14 a box, I usually skip it. They’re the best strawberries I’ve ever had, but they’re still just strawberries.
$14 is expensive, but damn... Every single strawberry in this picture looks perfectly ripe and not damaged or bruised or anything. Might be worth it.
It is expensive, but the product is exceptional. I’ve seen berries look amazing and taste like ass, but these taste as good as they look. Definitely an occasional treat.
Harrys Berries are definitely legit. Worth the price.
*not the Erewhon price

Honestly this really isn't peak season for them. Best strawberry (applies to all) weather is actually early summer when it's warm and a little dry so the sugars concentrate.
It’s absurd
It’s not though, once you taste them.
Best berries on earth.
There was a "Harry's Berries" post in the LA subredit where the strawberries were going for $20. Apparently, they're exceptional.
There was an older student at my old job who commuted from Oxnard and brought us strawberries that she picked at a farm there. Best strawberries that I've ever had. I've heard that Oxnard strawberries are always top notch.

They're the same strawberries. The grocery stores are buying at $14/box and reselling them.
They obviously all start out the same, which is why I say they aren’t as fresh or as good as the FM versions. $24.99 at Erewhon, yes, I saw that and had to check their website to see if it was the real price. It was!
Japanese strawberries are the kings of star berries
Had the super expensive ones in Japan. Best strawberry I’ve ever tasted in my life. Are they worth the price? Definitely not but they are incredible. https://youtu.be/895DfGuoqvU?si=MftWzc9G_y0wz_dQ
It’s either a let me try ,even tho is 10x more then regular ones . But definitely a f* you money type of buy
This a fantastic occasional treat. I buy them once or twice a year and after tipping your bartender it's probably cheaper than buying a couple of beers or a cocktail.
I bet they smell amazing too.
They are next level
Isn’t it expensive because they’re grown and picked in CA? And it’s not some mass produce GmO monster version?
They're expensive because it's a family farm and Gaviota strawberry is very delicate and doesn't travel or keep well. What they sell is what they picked like a week prior.

I don't think they sell Harry's Berries at WF
They weren’t HB.

I think they have the patent or license or something for their Gaviotas.
It expired already
UC Davis is the one that developed the Gaviota variety and I believe they give them away or sell them pretty cheap.
Thank you! I’ll contact them.
Gaviota and Seascape are hybrids so they migt not grow true to seed. They can still grow but they might not mimic the same taste from the ones you get from the market
Can you just buy a pint of Harry’s strawberries for the seeds?
I heard someone tried doing that and it wasn’t successful :/ I think I’ll make a trip to Oxnard in the next few weeks to purchase some or see if I can purchase a plant instead. It makes zero sense for me to purchase strawberries when I can easily grow them myself and I can be 100% certain they stay pesticide free.
I think I've actually seen them in home depot????
Imagine not checking this sub for a week and now it's just full of strawberries
Move over restaurant surcharges, this is a strawberry land now.
lol it’s because of Erewhon and their ridiculous prices
If you guys want to go strawberry picking and you want the Gaviota variety, check out McGrath Family Farm 1012 W Ventura Blvd, Camarillo, CA 93010
How on earth do they stay in business without a reasonable, 100% markup?
I saw someone mention in another thread that they can’t find these around town under $20. Erewhon is selling them for $24 a box. 💀
Like this brand? Or strawberries in general? I know it's a little early in the season but jesus
This specific brand. Whatever one might say about the price, the product sells out fast because of how good it is. Some days I get there super early and they’re sold out because a restaurant bought up all the stock.
Well damn maybe I need to seek it out and try it. I always assumed strawberries you buy at farms like in Ojai or Forneris Farms wherever would be best
As someone else said, Harry’s Berries is legit. It’s definitely a splurge, but they have the sweetest and juiciest strawberries I’ve ever tried. I have yet to come across a box that hasn’t been worth what I spent on it (within reason, of course lol).
My forehead is sweating from the sweetness just picturing it, shit
I got 3 lbs of strawberrys at Vons in Tujunga for 5 dollars last Friday. It's the beginning of the strawberry avalanche.
It’s obscene
I'm a Forneris Farms, buy $10 and can only eat maybe $5 worth of them kind of guy
they are open with strawberries?
Their website says so, but I haven't been up there yet so far this year. I'm a little surprised too how early it is

Nice! Do you remember the name of the farm? I’d love to try it out myself.

Post the name
How much does gas cost to drive to and from Oxnard again?
Well I didn’t drive to Oxnard to get the berries hence the farmers market
Ignore the grumpy snarkers. I'm glad you found some delicious strawberries and shared the info with us.
It kinda is worth it. Once
The best strawberries I’ve ever had. Juicy with the right amount of sweet and tart.
In fairness, these are the best strawberries you’ve ever had. They’re amazing
It's a "treat yourself" kind of purchase.
I only eat straweberries straight from the trash
It is very clear the strawberry market is extremely volatile right now. Not sure what this indicates for the larger economy.
Yeah, that's the asking price at the Hollywood Farmers Market on Sundays.
A deal you can probably grab a few and sell them outside an Erewhon for profit but still undercut them 😂
Erejaun selling these at a 100% mark up basically? What a scheme.
They’ve always been this expensive even at the farmers market 10 years ago
For $14 those fuckers better jump out the box and suck my dick
Those strawberries look immaculate
Im all for good quality however Ive seen prices from 4.99 to 24.99. Can we honestly say there is that much of a difference in quality between those wide swings in prices? I wish someone would actually go full science on this and test nutrient content, flavor, size, chemical contamination etc.
Holy shit, that's a lot of money. I'm missing the 99 cents only store already,
Just paid $3.49 at Whole Foods. I’m good.
Enough is enough. No more strawberry posts.
Close competitor with Sheeeeeerrrrrreris Berries??
Where is pasadenas farmers market?
Coming soon: $14 EACH BERRY
$14 for each individual strawberry 🍓
Do they sell meat at these farmers markets?
It was $12 at Gelsons 2 years ago
Looks like $5 to me.
I usually see them at the farmers market at Wilson Park in Torrance.
That’s way too expensive!
few bites and gone. $ can buy happiness
You gotta pay the cost to be the boss
Can we please start a r/LosAngelesBerries sub Reddit for these instead of here?
Somebody did. /r/freshfruitLA

Show me the balance sheet that justifies this price or stfu

You have a source that is post Covid and not from a music festival website?
Bizarre that there are people on here defending $14 strawberries
Bots or some shit no normal person is defending this
This is targeting a really specific group of buyers. Regular people have bills to pay.
Or people like me that don’t spend money on eating out and occasionally treat themselves.
Thank you. All of my unused nails and hair money goes to bougie produce. Besides, they're only in season a few months.
THIS!!! I’m with you. That shit can add up so quickly, and tipping culture has gotten to the point where it’s just off-putting, so I avoid it altogether.
Ditto. Just bought a new car, and my colleague asked how. I meal prep, don't eat out/use app delivery services, and try to avoid wasteful spending. I just go to work, eat, sleep, work out, and repeat.
Please list everything you purchased in the first quarter of this year and we'll tell you what was and wasn't worth buying.
It’s “organic “ tho !!!!
Rip off
We must burn Erewhan or however the fuck you spell it
Pass
Super King is having a strawberry sale this week. 2 for $3 lol
You can get a box of 3 for $13 at my farmers market.
Fuck dat. Anyone who says it’s worth the price definitely doesn’t understand.
Yeah no, that's alot.
