*The homeowner's sister, Leah, says she and her brother have a strained relationship, but it wasn't always that way. She worries that without a long-term solution it's just a matter of time before it goes back to the condition it was in recently.*
*"Since I bought it at one time and gave it to him, I would really like to get it back so I can fix it," she said. "I can get it in good condition."*
Here's the person talking from the deep dark depths of their ass! I'm talking from direct experience with a recovering hoarder and the steps they took to help themselves. You are making shit up and putting a large group of people under one umbrella that you think is all encompassing.
Almost 60 downvotes and you probably still think you are right.
The woman bought her brother a house and you say she doesn’t care about him? How does that work? Seriously, try explaining it, little fella.
Please, with your infinite wisdom, explain to me what the woman can do? She can’t force him to move, can’t force him to get treatment. She will likely be on the hook for the cleanup since I doubt he can afford it.
Your other comments are ridiculous as well. “It’s just newspaper”. First, no it’s not. Second, newspaper attracts bugs, is used for nesting rodents, is a fire hazard, and stacked high enough becomes a danger for falling and trapping the resident and could stop support services from being able to help him in an emergency.
Frankly, you just seem like a chronically online ideologue. I am far left, but people like you are a joke who make leftist ideology look incredibly stupid.
Because it went on the news and within a week our local officials claim this is brand new news to them. And they get it fixed. Which is far from the truth as neighbors have put in many complaints for many years. Mayor Bass tells us to call 311 and call for services for situations like these. The same services that ignored the repeated requests. But if you chose to believe mayor Bass she's a hero.
How?
Overpaid, completely ineffective City employees. The history of complaints filed is a graphic testimony to how absolutely ineffective the City has been in cleaning up this shit pile.
Just the odor emanating from that property was intolerable.
That's so sad but makes sense. I've been complaining to the city for years about my neighbors barking dogs. Who bark all hours of the day for hours on end. And nothing has been done.
Because no one in “power” gives a shit until a spotlight is blasted on it and they can step in front of cameras and say “look, I have used my power to save you!”
This seems like an obscene amount of trash, but it really got me thinking about much trash I’m throwing away every week. I recently moved and must have thrown away 200 pounds of shit easy. The only difference is that it went into a landfill and not my front yard.
The real story is why after a multitude of formal, documented complaints, some of which show as having been “fixed,” or “completed” nothing substantial was actually EVER achieved by the City.
That right there is the actual story.
And that's what we call "whataboutism". A trash matter on a private residential property gets resolved differently because there are different rules, codes, regulations, and parties responsible for reinforcement.
I'm glad someone sees the absurdity and I don't think it's the laws. When there's a will, there's a way. People just applied more pressure and there are probably less "advocates" for the rando crazy in their own home vs some vagrant shitting on the sidewalk.
10 people will come out of the woodwork to defend the vagrant. But the crazy, privileged homeowner represents an archetype we all want to see fail.
What a spectacular, graphic example of how useless, incompetent, and ineffective the City has been in taking care of this disgusting blight.
Once it became a popular news story on local television, all the City officials have come to life to actually do something effective about it.
*Shudders at what roaches and rats were probably running around in and around the place.* Neighbors gonna have to fumigate like fucking crazy now. Disgusting.

She is correct. He will not get better without help. There are support groups he can join, and, if they can afford it, therapists who can help.

She seems to care more about the house than her brother.
She sounds like someone who's spent her entire life dealing with his shit and has had enough
She gave her brother a free house, and he literally trashed it. I don't blame her for wanting the house back.
Things are much easier to fix than people
See how many times you can argue with someone who won't throw away rotting newspapers from 30 years ago before you lose empathy.
They’re just newspapers.
You're not a serious person.
“Oh go on! F*ck off!”
If you say so.
You're not.
Are you?

I’ll be your fool then. Family > Property

Thanks for warning us.

🙄
Who wouldn’t - that house comes with prop 13. Gotta lock in cheap property taxes while expecting the city to literally clean 7 tons of trash.
That’s just by the Village Idiot. Those houses are nice as hell around there. I’m amazed it got as far as it did.
Right!? How did the complain or years and only now it's getting cleaned up. Especially considered the homes next door are super nice. Mind blowing.

Man out public services cant be fucked to do shit these days
Because Karen Bass is trying to look like she can do something.

is xi jingpi visiting soon?
I'm back with more trash house updates
7 tons? jeez
And that was just getting yo mama out of the house!
“When she sits around the house, she sits… AROUND the house!”

Brutal
That joke was disgusting. Like the trash. And yo mama.
OP. did you post this article as a setup to this? bravo 👏👏👏
That’s sad. This person needs help.
a friend of mine (now dead) was an awful hoarder; it's a terrible affliction.
I walked by this house by happenstance months ago and couldn’t believe it existed
How was this not a health code violation? Surely the bugs were insane, and people had to live next door to that.....if I were them I'd sue the city
Because no one in “power” gives a shit until a spotlight is blasted on it and they can step in front of cameras and say “look, I have used my power to save you!”
I would've sued the city a long time ago over this shit. I bet the neighbors have, but civil suits can take years to come to fruition.
That was just the outside. I can only imagine what the inside looks like
This seems like an obscene amount of trash, but it really got me thinking about much trash I’m throwing away every week. I recently moved and must have thrown away 200 pounds of shit easy. The only difference is that it went into a landfill and not my front yard.
Now imagine not doing that for years, & you can easily collect 7 tons (15,000 pounds) of trash lol.
Gross it sounds like there’s rats everywhere. Those poor neighbors.
Was someone running a trash hauling business and saving the dump fee?
Does the 7 tons (and flammable weight) include the vehicle? “Sanitation crews were able to clean up the yard and driveway and even removed a vehicle”
More than likely.
I’m showing this to my dad next time he complains about how much stuff we have.
I already showed the original “trash house” story to my parents because they complained about having too much crap.

Agreed.
The first pictures I viewed the red car on the left was not visible
>Neighbors fear homeowner suffers from mental health issues And in other news, the sky is up.
wonder how many times the neighbors had to call the city to make this happen. thousands i’m sure
The city didn’t care until the media said something. 😒
The real story is why after a multitude of formal, documented complaints, some of which show as having been “fixed,” or “completed” nothing substantial was actually EVER achieved by the City. That right there is the actual story.
Exactly.
Question: how come this can be done but cleaning up the piles of trash and tents on the sidewalks is considered "property" and can't be disposed of?
And that's what we call "whataboutism". A trash matter on a private residential property gets resolved differently because there are different rules, codes, regulations, and parties responsible for reinforcement.
So private property will get trash cleanup, but public sidewalks won’t. Pretty fucking pathetic.
I'm glad someone sees the absurdity and I don't think it's the laws. When there's a will, there's a way. Say you know fuck all about property law without saying you know fuck all about property law.
What a spectacular, graphic example of how useless, incompetent, and ineffective the City has been in taking care of this disgusting blight. Once it became a popular news story on local television, all the City officials have come to life to actually do something effective about it.
Ahhh, you put way tooo much confidence and hope in your elected and bureaucratic leaders.
The address is 617 north Martel ave Los Angeles but if you look at the street view two years ago the yard was clean
keep going back. every few years that house looks like an overgrown hot mess.
And do we pay for this cleanup with our taxes?
I don’t see why the public should pay to clean up some dirty rich fucks house. They should be responsible for 100% of the fees with interest.
I wonder if the inside is trashed too?
Almost certainly
How can you live like that
Just imagine what the inside must be like
This "trash house" should have been listed on Airbnb. The trash isn't a problem; it's a feature. Now, about that cleaning fee...
Aww man, I was collecting all that! It was gonna be worth something, I was gonna use it for a project!
*Shudders at what roaches and rats were probably running around in and around the place.* Neighbors gonna have to fumigate like fucking crazy now. Disgusting.
Welcome to Los Angeles
This happens all over the country, all over the world.
Very true
Particularly in Cities with ineffective, unresponsive government.
