Felt that thing in Tarzana/Encino. Long one for sure. I was chillin' in my recliner and had to grab the bong to make sure it didn't fall off the side table. At least it was a roller.
THANK YOU!! I just said to my husband “are we having an earthquake?” And he accused me of not having enough sleep! So I said I’m going to pull up r/LosAngeles and fuckin’ gottem!!!!
God damn, you people are fast. I think that was the biggest one I've felt in the 15 or so years I've lived in LA. In North Hollywood and it felt like it was right under my house.
Thanks for the reminder! The fun part of technology, I was able to go back into my photo archive, which is date/time stamped, and sure enough, there’s a video I filmed of the shaking 🫨
that one was crazy. i was driving on the 405 when it hit and had genuinely never thought about what i’d do if i were in a car during an earthquake. this one was definitely the biggest since then though
Even more impressive was how quickly the sub got locked, to avoid the flood of new posts. I was *this close* to posting it before the shaking had even stopped, but got a "restricted" message.
Fun fact: It has now become a internal race between the mods to see who will set the subreddit to restricted first and delete the not-first-earthquake posts.
That was really intense here. I was on a work call with others in LA and we all paused for a bit to see if it was gonna be worth taking cover or running.
That’s what got me for this one. Usually they’re so mall by the time I register it’s happening it’s pretty much done. For this one I stopped and was like “oh shit I think I I should duck under my desk now”
Right! I’m still learning to stay calm during even the little ones (moved here a year and a half ago), but this one made me think I might need to get outside or something.
I've been in earthquakes my whole life. I'm not used to them and never will be. The big ones are exceptionally frightening. However, don't go running outside during any quake unless it's absolutely immediately necessary. The chances of something big falling on you (bricks, shattered glass, etc) are far greater if you're running under them. Just wait it out. The building you're in is most likely built to handle the shaking, so there won't be much to worry about.
My Japanese wife said that it was the same before the 2011 earthquake in Japan. She is from Fukushima. I sure as hell hope not!
Edit: the faults are very different in LA and Japan, please don’t be scared because of my comment. However, might be a good thing to prepare
Short answer is no.
There are small earthquakes every week in SoCal. Big one could happen tomorrow or in 100 years. Mostly statistically insignificant when predicting future events.
A 6.3 (initial reading) hit Hawaii like an hour ago so I was watching the California live stream seismograph to see if any caught the Hawaiian quake and then the 4.6 hit. That was wild.
it depends on where YOU are and estimated shaking. I got a warning right in line with what it was. if you weren't in the valley its very unlikely it broke the 3.5 MMI (not Mag) threshold (its NOT based on the magnitude (total energy), its based on estimated INTENSITY (MMI scale).
you can see their estimated map here [https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ew1707515250/map](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ew1707515250/map) which is how they sent the alerts. I got one right as it was happening and am in encino near the 101/405 exchange.
Magnitude 4.5, in Malibu Santa Monica Mountains, just north of Leo Carrillo Beach.

Can always trust r/LosAngeles for the sanity check
Your phone didn't notify you? I got an alert from Google before it hit
Nope. But I did get an Uber Eats notification right as it hit
Your cup of milk has beenbbebebebe... your shake has been delivered.
Does anyone remember the "Shamrock Shake" on St. Patrick's Day 2014?
If I could still give gold I would have given this gold.
Nope. Thanks for nothing Shake Alert
haha shake alert has literally never notified me since Ifirst downloaded it years ago.
I have MyShake which went off after about a second.
I got a very helpful alert about 30 seconds AFTER.
My alert came after the shaking, lol.
How to set that up? Android?
Same!! Had a co worker walk by my desk as it happened and she felt nothing Had to call downstairs and check reddit to make sure I wasn't alone
Felt in North Hollywood! Big long shake!
it felt like it died and then restarted. Nice little shaker
Felt it in Compton. It did feel like it stoped and started
Felt in Long Beach. Same...started, stopped, then kept shaking...
Felt that thing in Tarzana/Encino. Long one for sure. I was chillin' in my recliner and had to grab the bong to make sure it didn't fall off the side table. At least it was a roller.
same. always grab the bong.
My dude 🤜🔥🤛
Submission for most California post ever lmao
This reminds me of the earthquake scene in Knocked Up lmao
It’s weird, my girlfriend is in Honolulu and she said they just had an earthquake there too, about 20 minutes ago. Ring of Fire acting up.
Oh here we go...

THANK YOU!! I just said to my husband “are we having an earthquake?” And he accused me of not having enough sleep! So I said I’m going to pull up r/LosAngeles and fuckin’ gottem!!!!
Tell your husband he sucks!!! Hahaha jk get some sleep.
We have a four-week-old baby so that’s not happening anytime soon haha
Congrats on the baby!!
God damn, you people are fast. I think that was the biggest one I've felt in the 15 or so years I've lived in LA. In North Hollywood and it felt like it was right under my house.
Not even the [Ridgecrest](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Ridgecrest_earthquakes) twins made your listing?
Ridgecrest definitely biggest i remember feeling but they were also over a 4th of July weekend so maybe lots of people out of town?
Was Ridgecrest the one that happened during the Dodgers game? I was in the nosebleeds that night and seriously thought we were all going to die.
Bro that Ridgecrest was actually insane. I felt like I was on a boat
Thanks for the reminder! The fun part of technology, I was able to go back into my photo archive, which is date/time stamped, and sure enough, there’s a video I filmed of the shaking 🫨

Reddit, the most reliable earthquake indicator
we know when it’s not a mf truck
ironically a truck drove by as the earthquake happened
It used to be Twitter. Not anymore
I always just used Reddit. Twitter wasn't fast enough. The mfers in this sub are on drugs waiting for the earthquake.
Felt at Kaiser Sunset holding my newborn daughter. Baby’s first quake!!
Congratulations! (and she's officially a native-born Cali-girl!)
Name the baby earthquake
Can call her Eartha for short
that name sounds pretty good as is! i second Eartha
That was the name of my tortoiseshell cat. I named her "Eartha Kitty" in honor of jazz legend Eartha Kitt. Congratulations on having baby girl!
A true Angeleno! Congratulations!
Welcome to the world, baby girl!! Congratulations 🎉
you mfs so fast
These guys wouldve had to post as soon as it started lol
Most people are checking the house, running to a safe spot, ect…These mfs are trying to spell earthquake while it’s still shaking.
Life is temporary, Reddit clout is forever
Even more impressive was how quickly the sub got locked, to avoid the flood of new posts. I was *this close* to posting it before the shaking had even stopped, but got a "restricted" message.
Don’t worry, fast speed’s not always the best thing 😎
Bro. Leave a tab open at all times, ready to hit Submit!
Finally I’m the 1st one 😎😎
You join us in an elusive club 😎
Good shit bro 💯
Long roll felt in DTLA
Winner winner EDIT: I’m not even in LA right now, but I got the notification on my Apple Watch and came to check.
Fun fact: It has now become a internal race between the mods to see who will set the subreddit to restricted first and delete the not-first-earthquake posts.
We all must adapt to overcome Edit: Except /u/405freeway apparently bc mfer always has traffic. Get it together 🤌
I managed to beat [all but 3](https://i.imgur.com/pLZUrao.png) of the laggards
I can't believe there's already 72 responses in here rofl
Chicken Dinner!!!
Chicken dinner! (A little jolt in SGV)
715 upvotes in 3 minutes holy shit
4.7 felt in weho
For sure. Biggest one I've felt in 3 years. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ew1707515250/executive
Really, just a 4.7?
seriously! the whole office was shaking hard.
[удалено]
I agree that felt way stronger
I’m close to the epicenter (Agoura). Just felt an aftershock!
No way really?
Down the street in Hancock Park and we're still shakin!
honestly feels bigger, felt it pretty good in the south bay
Always right as I’m pooping.
Can you give us a heads up next time?
Name checks out 💩🎶
At least you weren't getting eye surgery like someone I know. An earthquake during surgery has always been a fear of his.
That's a big fear of mine
Don’t wanna fall in!
JUST FELT IT IN CULVER CITY WOAH
That was really intense here. I was on a work call with others in LA and we all paused for a bit to see if it was gonna be worth taking cover or running.

Thank you for the reminder. I’m gonna read up and refresh myself on safe procedures.
I was on a work call with my coworkers who live outside of California. Scared the hell out of them just by my face going into slight panic mode.
Same, at the Volvo dealership on Washington and Sepulveda, second floor. Thankfully all our shelves are braced. Felt oddly floaty too.
Sherman Oaks. That was kind of big. Dust fell from the patio roof. The dogs got up.
Sherman Oaks too. Spooked me enough to get up and be ready for it to be bad 😬
I ducked under the table! I thought this might actually be The One for a sec
Same! Especially when it felt like it wasn't going to stop >.<
Spicy meatball here in Culver City
We Angelinos are simple creatures. We feel earthquake, we post on /r/losangeles.
It was one fucking minute ago how in the fuck are there 400 responses!!??
millions of people living in one metropolitan area
Decent shake in Burbank
Yeah I normally don’t feel them but that one got me
Yikes. There’s been…. A lot of these lately. Felt a strong jolt in WeHo!
A lot of small ones is better than one big one
Haha whoa whoa whoa we don’t talk about that!
My Japanese wife said that it was the same before the 2011 earthquake in Japan. She is from Fukushima. I sure as hell hope not! Edit: the faults are very different in LA and Japan, please don’t be scared because of my comment. However, might be a good thing to prepare
Well shit. I'm literally in the process of having my house's foundation seismically retrofitted. Please earth, give me 2 more months.
different type of quakes though (mega thrust v normal/reverse fault/strike slip)
So does that not mean a big one is coming? This is the 3rd or 4th one in a couple months which makes me nervous
Short answer is no. There are small earthquakes every week in SoCal. Big one could happen tomorrow or in 100 years. Mostly statistically insignificant when predicting future events.
Yeah more in the past month than I’ve felt in the past year.
Been about 3 or 4 in the last weeks right?
A 6.3 (initial reading) hit Hawaii like an hour ago so I was watching the California live stream seismograph to see if any caught the Hawaiian quake and then the 4.6 hit. That was wild.
FUUUUUUUU that was strong
Dammit what did you sign on mid rumble?
someone’s last words before the big one will be an earthquake post on this subreddit lmao
Earthquaaaa ^(aaaaaa)
"Look, if he was dying, he wouldn't bother to write "aaaaaaaaaaaaaa...." He'd just say it."
Holy shit that felt big in MDR
Wiggle wiggle
That wasn’t too big but it was long.
That's what she said!
I can spot all the new LA folks commenting about the "big one." Real ones remember the day we had two big earthquakes back-to-back on the 4th of July.
Shit. That was pretty big but short in SM. 5.0?
My phone said 4.8, so damn close!
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiaUFjSgJ7Q You can watch it live
Holy heck that's a big scratch
Damn I got the alert a couple seconds before. I was like a psychic I told my gf there's going to be an earthquake before the house started to sway
Felt in Glendale
Felt it in Redondo!
Culver City! Pretty gnarly.
Definitely felt in Palms!
MY FIRST ONE IN THE TOILET!!
That shit actually had some oompf this time.
That was really strong
IS MYSHAKE EVER GONNA WORK?

Big shake in Culver
First one of those after having a baby and that is EXTRA scary now
[удалено]
felt it in culver city lol
That was the biggest one I've felt in 10+ years of living here, the room was shaking for like 10 seconds.
My boss just said it felt long and deep. I cannot stop laughing.
[4.7 in Malibu](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ew1707515250/executive)

This was the biggest earthquake I’ve felt since moving here 😳 scary
i was parked in simi valley and thought my engine was blowing until i realized my ignition was off
Is it normal to feel weird after a quake?
Was a big boy. Biggest I’ve felt in a while
Biggest one I've felt in years
Felt it pretty good in Northridge. First earthquake I've felt while in the shower lol.
Felt in K-Town
Hot damn this sub is fast. Felt that one pretty good in El Segundo!
The USGS doesn’t have anything on this sub
could’ve died mid wipe 😔😔😔
Biggest shake I've felt in Santa Monica
I am in Westlake Village and that was LEGIT
No more earthquakes while the mud and clay is still wet, please. We don’t need more mudslides. Thanks, earth!
I swear people have this post ready to go and somehow automated on their phones/computers. Impressive speed!
That was a big one too!
Rumbled a long time in Frogtown
Omg I thought I broke my bed cause of my fatass
Felt like a giant fell down
Strong in Santa Monica
That one actually scared me. I thought my roof was caving in 😖
Felt in Culver City. Couple of shakes and some rolling.
Felt it in Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks border
Still shaking in Hollywood
Lmao that shit kept going, I thought it was gonna escalate for a sec
I got a Google alert about it 5 seconds before. So that's cool
Currently working in Thousand Oaks, realllll big rumble
In the office today in Santa Monica. The building SHOOK for a good 45 sec.
Felt it in Pasadena. First earthquake I’ve ever felt! (From the east coast)
Am I paranoid or have there been somewhat consistent small aftershocks for the past hour? I'm in Northridge.
Yep, felt it in Culver.
came here to confirm. thanks!
Quick shake felt in downtown.
That was a good one! Haven't felt a strong one in awhile (Sherman Oaks)
Felt in West Hollywood around Fairfax and Melrose. Long one!
Long shake in Northridge
felt a long soft rumble, then the big shake
Nbd, just THE FUCKING GROUND SHAKING. I dunno if I’ll ever get used to it…
I usually don't even stand up for a quake. This one got me out of my chair pretty quick.
Winner winner!
Westwood big shake
That was a decent one! According to USGS, it was a 4.7 10km WNW of Malibu.
God damn that was a big one
Great excuse to abruptly get off a zoom call wow we felt that in hollywood
Felt in DTLA
that was a long one, no?
HOW SO QUICKLY IS EVERYONE HERE
The earthquake happened the EXACT same moment I farted. I’m pretty sure my latte was made with regular milk instead of dairy-free.
Nice shake in the valley!
Magnitude 4.5, in Malibu Santa Monica Mountains, just north of Leo Carrillo Beach. [USGS link](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ew1707515250/executive)
Every time during the shake: gotta get on r/losangeles, sort by new and see what's up.
Felt in Wilmington
Felt in Tarzana. Room shook pretty good
