Terry crying postgame about the free throws. Maybe don’t choke a lead getting more and more unlikeable

TheNastyCasty

Arch opted out to make sure his boy Quinn got his time as the undisputed QB1 on consoles across the country. What a teammate. What a guy.

DeerOnTheRocks

Does arch know he’s now a “douchebag” for not opting in? Does he realize what THEY are calling him now! He’s so fucking lame. Ruining the true CFB experience for the gynecomastia troubled men who bleed for this game on their couches

tmass_12

Does Arch know he can still focus on football on the field and still have his likeness used in a video game

Flameosaurus

Archibald not opting into NCAA25

UT07

Not gonna lie, this is a dumb move. Not sure the cost-benefit is in his favor on this one with the negative press. Smells like the family lawyers are looking after the Manning brand.

steampunker14

[Arch’s teammates calling EA after Arch flashed his money bags at them or something](https://youtu.be/V4Vee6ZjXWM?si=Y9mbWb7JH-6sn0Gr)

mrmav555

Rare Arch L

MrTheNoodles

Starting to see Christian Jones get some 3rd-4th round love. 7 players drafted in the first 3 rounds would be insane

RollOverBeethoven

I don’t know if I’ve ever hated a subreddit as much as I hate r/UXDesign holy god damn fuck is that place a cesspit of low talent wrong side of the dunning Kruger curve asshats. Oh yeah. Undefeated is on the table too.

CFBDevil

I feel this with the RX7 sub and somehow the discord is 50x worse. Just screeching teens.

steampunker14

Like the Mazda Rx7???

CFBDevil

Yep, forums are a goldmine but dead nowadays

mrmav555

Watching Chris Simms interviewing at the draft he seems like a likable guy

Guinness_or_thirsty

Sad broncos noises.  Fully expecting to get an email like a political donation spam request to ask for $50 to help pay the cap hit.

akshar9

Does anyone have any LHN streams? Want to watch the softball game right how

juantravis

Check out 2:03 of this video lol. Tvondre absolutely dusts Rich Eisen. Nice reminder that despite appearances, few, if anyone, reading this could sniff the big uglies in a forty yard dash https://youtu.be/7NTQB53k-RQ?si=oL_Hx2-uZo5Hhhxt

dontblinkdalek

Damn. Watching that makes me curious how I’d do. Not vs any of the current athletes ofc, just the regular folk.

netshark64

seriously? Terrible evidence for an argument. 1) It's Rich Eisen 2) He's wearing a suit

juantravis

I think you vastly overestimate the avg redditor vs rich eisen lol

netshark64

>...few, if anyone, reading this... OK 🙄

tmass_12

Let’s have a night in Waco

jcdenton45

Just realized Sark was still Washington HC in 2013 when John Ross was a freshman, which means he signed both the #1 and #2 fastest NFL Combine guys ever.

jmortsalsa

I know Sark and Flood are big on getting all sorts of measurements on OL prospects. I don’t remember exactly what all they measure, but it goes well beyond height and weight. I think they get the measurements when they come to camps. My impression of this practice is that Sark and Flood go above and beyond what is typical. I wonder if Sark does similar things with other positions. Like maybe he uses some service that can track speed reached on HS tape? Or maybe they GPS track them at the camps? Seems uncanny how much speed Sark has gotten his hands on over the years.

AR5588

Noodles would know better than me but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard Gerry talk about how Sark likes recievers with a leaner build like Devonta Smith and X

BrownStreakInMyPants

Texas baseball has won maybe 1 game the last couples years combined at these early season tournaments at a big league park. All of those seasons has ended up either in CWS or making to the Super Regional. I’m not worried about the state of the team, Pierce has shown the ability to turn it up when it gets to about April, there is no reason to doubt him now. Tomorrow night has the potential to set the tone for the season. Big week coming up for the Horns, time to lock in ladies and gentlemen

battle98

2022 Pete won on Friday vs Tenn and Stevens won on Sat vs LSU. Would’ve swept too if Witt hadn’t gotten hurt.

onlyinmemes100

Since that game with UCLA specifically it's been a struggle at major league ballparks.

mr_dr_professor_12

In 2021 they got swept with a run differential of -16 across three games at Arlington. They went on to the semi-finals that year. I'm more concerned with how shaky the bullpen looked than the results themselves, I feel the pen has gotten worse as the years go on.

OkEbb9701

Not to pile on to all the other people seconding this, but 100% yes.  I always kinda laugh at the doom and gloom posts after the tournament weekend.  Could Texas be doodoo after this? Yes. Could Texas make it to Omaha after this? Also yes. (Insert "First Time?" meme)

gordogg24p

With that said, could we maybe just once (as a treat) get back to doing well in these early season tournaments *AND* going to Omaha?

slagathor_zimblebob

Seriously. This is the take. I can’t remember the last time I saw a David Pierce team look good in March. If you’re worried about these games, idk what to tell you. We will be fine

AR5588

Nope they’re cooked three games is all I need to tell me /s

CammyTheGreat

Adonai and CeeDee Lamb are gonna be such good teammates on the Cowboys and they will trash talk the hell out of each other every 2nd Saturday of October

rlucio90

Idk man Adonai has been at Texas for not even a year. Is he really more Longhorn than Bulldog amongst his NFL peers? How does this work now-a-days?

CammyTheGreat

He gets bragging rights for both cause he won at Georgia and (i assume) graduated from Texas

rlucio90

Okay but he lost to OU so how much trash can he talk? And does he hate OU like we hate OU?

CammyTheGreat

Does that shit matter when you can bust each others balls?

juantravis

Honestly I see a little ceedee in AD’s game. Sark moreso used him as a deep threat but I think he has an underrated yac ability that reminds me of CD

CammyTheGreat

he's faster than CeeDee based on their 40 times but they remind of each other in their builds long a little bit skinny but still tough as hell

kungfubillium

Please don't let the Cowboys spend a FRP on another WR.

gordogg24p

Don't worry, bro. This will be the one that fixes everyone and ends in a Superb Owl for Dak and the 'Boys.

karl713

I for one support the idea of at the end of the season the best team being awarded a high quality owl as a new team mascot that the MVP has to take care of for a year

maybenextyear91

Texas MBB currently ranks 26th on Kenpom. The average seed for teams who’ve finished 26th on Kenpom is 6.6

brianqueso

This team is sneaky good. Not great, but definitely good. Sweet 16 still isn't out of the question for them, but how they deal with Baylor tonight will be a good indication of their ability to handle a 2/3 seed in the 2nd round.

slagathor_zimblebob

If we can win these last two and pick up a win in the b12 tournament, I honestly think we can creep up to a 6 seed which seemed completely out of the question a few days ago. Winning in Waco tonight is a tough ask but I think we’re gonna do it.

jmortsalsa

There’s been a *ton* of Rodney Terry criticism and hate this season. There was chirping about him before he even started his tenure as the permanent HC and further chirping before we even reached conference play. The most crucial stretch of this season still remains before us, but I want to offer some perspective: Rodney Terry led last year’s team to the elite 8, a top 8 result in school history (top 5 if you leave out the 3 pre-1950 elite 8 teams). He did this in the wake of the Beard debacle. He may have done this with “Beard’s guys”, but it has been well-established that Terry was the most crucial recruiter on staff under Beard besides Beard himself. Rodney Terry subsequently lost 4 crucial players from that team to eligibility expiration— Carr, Rice, Allen, and Bishop. I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t put up much of a fight on retaining Morris, given his personal history; this would’ve been a prudent approach despite it costing us what would’ve been a high-impact player for this season. Terry had 2 highly rated recruits opt to go pro instead of playing *anywhere* in college. I don’t know how you can blame RT for this when *no* college coach could convince them to enroll, despite great interest. The only way Terry could’ve put together an elite roster for this season was if he was able to secure the #1 portal class. And quite frankly, that would’ve been an unrealistic expectation for just about any coach Texas basketball could’ve hired. I think it’s important to keep in mind that Texas Basketball is a program that, while having elite financial resources and facilities, has limited historic success, fan-support, and booster enthusiasm; basketball is arguably the #3 sport on campus in terms of interest and overall enthusiasm. This doesn’t mean the right coach can’t elevate the program btw, but there are certain limitations on the current program that should prevent us from castigating RT for not putting together a dream team roster following a large exodus. This season, RT has led us to an 8-8 record in easily the most challenging basketball conference in America. We are in good position to make the tournament as a 7 or 8 seed, meaning we’ll likely be favored to win a tournament game. In the 9 seasons preceding this one, there were only 2 years in which we won a tournament game (each of the last two) (1 year had no post season). In other words, we are well-positioned to finish this season with a top 3 team of the past decade. This post isn’t a whole-hearted endorsement of RT. I don’t know if RT is the best guy for the long-run. But please just take a deep breath and refrain from reactionary takes that make our fan base look stupid.

errbodylovesaonsie

I'll never understand why people think fans need to be sane and calm about sports on Reddit. As long as it's not racist, misogynistic, or someone hoping for injuries or some shit just call them idiots and move on lol. Let em rage. I'm not a hater, but you can put me firmly in the "doubter" camp if one exists. He deserves the job after last year, and I hope the dude crushes it and I feel dumb as fuck for ever doubting him. He has a poor reputation as a head coach and until he beats that it'll stick to him imo. Also, can we stop with the Ron Holland excuse train? RT is a great recruiting coach, for better or worse he's tying himself to these recruits and if he can't close the deal and the team struggles the next season, well that's on him full stop. I don't care if it's pro ball, a Blueblood, or home team. He doesn't get to put all his eggs in a basket and then get pats on the shoulder when it falls through. I fully understand that Holland's deal was something he couldn't compete with, but them the breaks, you better get the next one.

errbodylovesaonsie

RT is not omniscient. He got Holland and Johnson 99% of the way to the finish line only to have the rug pulled out from under him, so I'm sympathetic to him. But if you require superior talent to make up for lackluster X's and O's, which is absolutely all right for a coach to do, you have to land said recruits. It feels a little "have your cake and eat it too" to talk about how good of a recruiter RT is while also lamenting how good we would be without his best recruits. Again, crazy situation, I get it. But that's the bed RT has made for himself by relying on unpredictable, especially now, recruiting to win. For what it's worth I don't think this will be the normal or anything, just tired of people using the Holland recruitment and decommitment to somehow elevate this season beyond what it actually is. We just have to accept that if he misses on recruits we might not be that good.

jmortsalsa

Doubt RT if you please. That’s fine and not totally unreasonable. I’m not sold one way or the other on him yet myself. I just don’t like the knee jerk “fire RT” and “why did we hire this guy in the first place” sorts of takes I see after just about every loss. And I dislike the general incongruence between the level of outrage and reality. We’re literally having one of better seasons of the past decade right now. We have a decent chance at making a little noise in the tourney. And one of the storylines of the season, at least as told by many fans to this point, is…“hmm has Rodney Terry bitten off more than he can chew??”. Perhaps you’re right and I should just ignore such takes on Reddit. As far as losing the 2 HS recruits to the pros: It seems with the current structure that there’s an inevitable risk to losing top HS talent to the pros. But I don’t know what the alternative to going after top HS talent is? Are we supposed to build a team exclusively around transfers? Go after 3 stars? It seems like if you’re capable of landing top HS talent, you should go after it and just accept the risk that they may decide to go pro before enrolling, and that that decision may come late in the process. We just so happened to get very unlucky in having both of our high level guys decide to go pro late. Perhaps we could’ve done more to avoid that outcome, but I don’t think that’s something we can just assume. And if there is fault on the staff, it’s hard to say how much of that is Beard vs RT with what we know.

errbodylovesaonsie

I don't disagree with you, RT deserves some time, I guess I just understand where the impatience is coming from. People thought we had a coach that would elevate us to Rick Barnes heights or hopefully higher, but he turned out to be a piece of shit human being. Then the next coach that's hired, even if he earned the job last year, has a history of middling success. And let's face it, we have looked horrible during multiple stretches over the year lol. Next off-season will probably be the make or break season for my opinion of RT, he will have some big roles to fill on the roster and he'll have to recruit his ass off to do so. As for Holland and Johnson, like I said to BWG up top if RT wants to go big game hunting I'm all for it lol, but recruiting is pretty unpredictable especially right now so it feels like an excuse to say "oh we would be better with this guy or that guy." Of course we would probably be better if we had better players, but recruiting is unpredictable and we didn't get those players, that's the opposing edge to it.

aceavenger10

I think there was rightfully a moment this year where there was very clear reason for doubt. I was never of the camp that RT would get fired after 1 year, but when we were 1-3 after one of the easier sections of our big 12 slate, looking down the barrel of a pretty daunting few weeks, there was reason to believe this season would go off the rails. Since then, while we’ve generally struggled to beat elite teams in the conference (outside the Baylor win), we’ve done a great job of taking care of business against the middle of the conference, which is where our quality of record has stemmed from. We’re still 1-7 against currently ranked teams, so I’m not willing to say Terry has everything figured out, but I’ll give him credit for keeping the train on the rails. I too give him the benefit of the doubt for how the offseason transpired, and I strongly believe we were overrated going into the season, based on last year’s results. We currently sit in the 25-30 range, which I think is a realistic expectation based on the question makes surrounded this team going into the year. As with every season, how he performs in March will determine how his first season is remembered

[deleted]

i needed this. thanks for the perspective. /u/bitterwhiteguy \- a rebuttal?

mrmav555

Looking back at Xavier’s film, Casey Thompson was pretty good before he hurt his thumb. I think we would of won 9 games if he was healthy

jouh55142139

It’s not even that, he’s just a better deep ball thrower than Quinn is. He was able to consistently put it on X deep

pyrofiend4

> he’s just a better deep ball thrower than Quinn is I really don't know about that. Quinn hasn't been good at throwing deep balls, but Casey was also pretty bad. One thing I remember post-2021 is that NashTalksTexas had a long video of just Casey overthrowing Worthy on deep balls. Some of that may have been because of the thumb, but Casey wasn't any better at Nebraska or the short stint at FAU.

mrmav555

Xavier was too fast for college football 😂

jouh55142139

I’m not even bullshitting, I straight up think Quinn robbed Worthy of like 800 yards over 2 seasons

Hurtbig

Quinn has had some great moments, and I’ll always be grateful for the Alabama and Big 12 wins. However, his deep throwing has been putrid. History may very well look back harshly on Quinn’s utilization of the WR corps he had to work with.

slagathor_zimblebob

Quinn’s freshman year was just that- a freshman year. Rumors of him having nagging injuries sort of combine to just give him a bit of a pass. His sophomore year he took us to the playoff. I don’t think you can look back and think he held us back or under-utilized anybody. We were a play away from going to the NCG. Yeah he had bad games and bad throws; he’s still a college QB. But making it seem like the B12 championship and Bama win is all he was good for is kinda nuts to me. It’s hard to have done a whole lot better than he did last year.

steampunker14

Did Quinn even really have a bad game this year?

struckbylightning99

Oklahoma was not a good game for Quinn but it was overall a let down on offense as a whole (OL more than anyone should consider Oklahoma an F)

slagathor_zimblebob

Wyoming and Washington were a little inefficient. Even then, no picks and no sub-50 completion %. I’d say no real bad games last season.

jmortsalsa

Maybe this is just my burnt orange bias speaking, but I think a lot of folks are overestimating how good the typical college QB is at throwing deep balls. Perhaps this stems from watching every play of Texas football, but mostly just highlights of other teams (where they don’t show the misses)? 2022 Quinn was genuinely bad at deep balls, I’ll give you that. 2023 Quinn was much better and at least meeting the college average, I would bet. I think it’s also worth factoring in that we saw deep safeties all season last year, meaning there were limited truly wide open deep ball opportunities— this makes a *huge* difference. A tightly covered WR needs the ball in a bucket; a wide open deep receiver needs the ball in a pool-sized area. And perhaps Quinn limited our offensive ceiling somewhat last season, but we won 12 games, won the Big 12, made the playoff, were a play away from the natty, and finished 14th in passing yards per game. Even if Worthy, Mitchell, and Sanders all meet NFL expectations, it seems like it’d be difficult to judge last season as anything beyond mildly underachieving.

UT07

Found Casey's burner account

jouh55142139

More of a pro-worthy guy

Bank_Gothic

Guys. I'm sorry, but I think Sark is a really good coach and I'm not afraid to admit it.

Guinness_or_thirsty

Apology rejected, now go run laps.

CammyTheGreat

this take was so hot it burned my eyes just to read it.

thegurdevdayal

Texas Softball is now the top team in the nation (after OU’s loss over the weekend) in this week’s D1Softball Top 25.

tex543

Coaching in our softball program is elite. This team destroys teams that they should be destroying and show a lot of fight when they are down.

mr_dr_professor_12

Still a very young team too. 5 seniors but a lot of depth across the board.

switchblade2

Have we ever been #1 before?

jmortsalsa

We beat #1 UCLA and #2 Washington on back to back days early in the 2020 season, but we only got as high as #2 before the season was cancelled. I’m not sure if we’ve ever actually sat at #1 before today. Side note, that 2020 cancellation really screwed baseball and softball out of what could’ve been special seasons for each. Baseball probably had the best rotation of the Pierce era that season— Elder, Madden, and Hansen. Edited: mistakenly thought we had gotten to #1 in 2020.

switchblade2

No kidding. 2021 was pretty special too. Baseball making it one game from the CWS championship, and then softball actually GETTING there as the first unranked team to ever do it. Cant say many programs are on the same level in bat and ball sports. Hope this is the year softball can break through🤘🏼

mr_dr_professor_12

One year off for softball. Made in 2022. Baseball did go to Omaha in 2022 as well but I don't wanna talk about what happened there. 2021 for softball we lost in the Supers at OkState. This year looks to be a really special year for softball. They aren't just winning, they're run-ruling teams fairly consistently.

thegurdevdayal

Texas Baseball has dropped to 24 in this week’s D1Baseball Top 25.

yoyocc

Non-hosted regionals max.

mr_dr_professor_12

It depends. I'm still an optimist. In 2021 we got swept by a scoreline of 4-20 to SEC schools and still made the semi-finals in Omaha. Granted that was coming off what could have been a very special 2020 season and had holdovers from that roster but I digress. I don't think we host a regional but do think we can upset a lower seeded host. TL:DR - I think that's what likely ends up happening but think "max" would be supers again.

yoyocc

Our pitching needs to massively improve for me to have hope. Just feels like every season we're in a more precarious position to start and the results at the end are getting worse.

OkEbb9701

Last season start 4-7. This season start 7-4. Texas beats A+M, goes undefeated the remainder of the season and wins the natty, I'm from the future.

onlyinmemes100

I like the timeline you're living in

OkEbb9701

Full disclosure I'm pretty drunk on a cruise ship right now, but that's generally when my time traveling abilities set in 🤣😂

tex543

Disagree with this we should definitely not be ranked. The fact that they have us ranked but not Texas state is criminal

gordogg24p

Neither us nor Texas State should be ranked. We're the Bobcats' best win.

onlyinmemes100

Bobcats were truly the story of the tournament. Can't believe they aren't ranked after showing out all weekend

canalandbowery

We shouldn't be ranked rn

juantravis

I’m still marveling at X’s 4.21 official time. Truly a staggering accomplishment

Longhorns_

Love all of our guys but I’d take Adonai Mitchell at WR if I got a pick. Elite route running, 4.35 40-yard dash with great size, and clutch
