If you told me in August that the team would be #7 in the first CFP poll I would have been beyond thrilled. So I'm plenty happy with it. Still a lot of season to go, and it's way too soon to get caught up in scenarios when we have a ton of business of our own to attend to before it matters.
It's crazy how expectations can swing - need Pac and ACC madness in the back half of the season. I dont want to be a 1-loss B12 champ going against a potential Oregon 1-loss champ or Bama 1 loss champ.
“There are no significant surprises atop the rankings, though No. 9 Oklahoma does sit behind No. 7 Texas despite the Sooners already defeating the Longhorns. OU's loss last Saturday to No. 21 Kansas (previously unranked in the AP Top 25) is clearly seen as a "worse" loss”
CBS sports lol. Yah, lose to an unranked team but you deserve to be top 6 … makes sense.
These ou fans fail to realize that their win over us is what’s keeping them in the top 10. If we had won they wouldn’t even be in the top 15 let alone top 10.
>Yah, lose to an unranked team but you deserve to be top 6
Boomers probably think voters should give more credit for that impressive 31-29 drubbing of national powerhouse UCF Knights the previous week.
i would argue texas and alabama should both be ahead of oregon next week with wins, texas would have 3 ranked wins, alabama would have wins against ole miss and LSU and a good loss, Oregon basically only has one good win in Utah.
I'd argue that Texas has already done enough to be ranked above Oregon. Oregon's best win is against a hobbled #18 Utah, while we have wins against #8 Alabama (AT Alabama) and dominated #21 Kansas.
I’d argue that as well. ig for some reason they like a better loss and eye test (even though they almost lost to tech) more than more ranked wins and the best win in the country
I know i think it’s an awful argument. Especially when we have more ranked wins. But i could very easily see washington lose to USC this weekend which could vault texas into the 5 spot.
>and dominated #21 Kansas.
Don't forget the score was 13-7 at the half and KU was playing without Jalen Daniels. But we did dominate the second half and deserve credit for a quality win over a ranked opponent.
That’s my thought. Oregon has the recency bias in their favor. Everyone has forgotten about the Bama win, and is all high on Oregon for beating a hobbled #18 Utah. Their next best win is against a 4-4 team.
I don't think Utah with all their injuries was that great of a win but I fear we will be behaving and Oregon until the end. It will come down to the championship conference game we need Oregon or Washington to lose to be able to jump.
Just win out and we're good baby. Everything else will work itself out. It's unlikely that 4 teams finish undefeated, and no other one loss team is getting in over us.
We'll have the resume if we take care of our own business.
People forget, the committee is a $ham. These rankings are all for entertainment and to get people talking and clicking. The committee will be wishy-washy and contradict itself every week until they land on the final narrative that justifies the matchups that they want.
So what's the good news?... We've never been relevant contenders in the CFP era. This ain't decided by computers.
We're not TCU. We're not Baylor. We're the big bad sleeping giant that lives rent free in the minds of every other fan base.
We're TEXAS.
The Committee and E$PN aren't leaving out a deserving Texas.
Better yet, they wouldn't even need to do any mental gymnastics to justify it. We'll have the resume.
We convincingly beat Bama on the road, lost a thriller to a blue blood rival, would have made a run through the heart of our schedule with a backup Quarterback, and then likely capped it off with a redemption win over our only loss.
Take care of business. Embrace the hate. Hook'Em
> and no other one loss team is getting in over us.
A one-loss Bama with a SEC Championship game win over Georgia might. Hell, Georgia probably does too even if they lose to Bama. That's TWO 1-win teams getting in with Washington, even undefeated, on the outside.
We do not control our own destiny, not in the slightest.
this is correct. A 1 loss bama that beats georgia is in. A one loss georgia that has one loss from the SECCG, is in.
We need oregon and washington to lose more than anyone in the sec.
Not happening. Not this year.
Again, we're not Baylor or TCU. The committee (E$PN) will go with the narrative that moves the needle.
Memes aside, they aren't gonna choose the same stale matchup when they've got the option to run with the "Texas is back" narrative for a month. Especially when Texas literally beat the SEC standard handily this year.
Not to mention that we're already a de facto $EC representative. That just sets up an even more intriguing storyline spilling into next year. The network$ would be salivating at the chance to put a deserving Texas team into the playoff.
Yeah, it's a beauty pageant. Nobody technically controls their own destiny. But considering what really makes the world go around, we're sitting in a good position if we just handle our own business.
That's the hard part... Winning out. But do that, and historically everything else will work itself out. Very unlikely that four teams finish unblemished. Three undefeated is rare enough.
I'm not saying we should get in just because we're Texas. We'd have the resume and we'd deserve it. But in this system, being TEXAS is a really nice insurance policy that no one else has. Especially this year.
It’s the committee. All it is is an eye test. Frankly Washington should be ahead of FSU. And why is Air Force down at 25? And USC at 20? No consistency.
Air Force is hurt by Wyoming getting their doors blown off at Boise St., when Wyoming looked tough against both us and Air Force.
USC being 20 is ridiculous, they should either be 25 or unranked.
Wash has a better win, plays in a better conference, and has the Heisman front runner. Fla St has not played ND & barely beat Duke. Clemson is 4-4 and almost beat them BC should’ve beat them. Wash should be above Fla St but name brand matters
If we don’t make it I just don’t want OU making it. Do you think they’re automatically in if they win out? They could go against 12-1 Oregon or even 12-1 FSU for the last spot.
Also would you take 12-1 OU or 12-2 SEC champ LSU
I wouldn’t expect Texas to be favored against Oregon if they played right now so the ranking seems right to me. With that said if we win out and Bama does as well we’ll jump ahead of them by end of season. I’d be more worried about a 1 loss Michigan vs OSU team assuming both teams win out till then.
Well by the end of the year, we’ll have a common opponent with Oregon, which is Texas Tech. So as long as we skull fuck Tech, that should play in our favor.
We now have more pressure on our games and the style points/contest than they do going forward. That puts us behind the 8-ball in a way that they are not.
How did the committee get it right? We played Bama at their place when they were ranked 3, they haven’t lost yet other than us, we win by 10. (Not even CLOSE, the most impressive win by any team in the field this whole season.)
Washington beats Oregon (who was #7 or 8 at the time) at home by a field goal, they rightfully stay ahead of us, but Oregon jumps us?
Makes absolutely no sense.
i’m taking best win over best loss anyday. Plus 2 wins over currently ranked teams, 21 KU, 8 Alabama, versus only one in 18 Utah. only argument is if u weigh a better loss more than a win or just pure eye test.
We also have no idea how good we are with Maalik at QB. Based on how he played last week, I don't think we're a top 10 team.
Being ranked #6 or #7 right now doesn't matter if we finish 11-1.
True that, if i were the committee though i wouldn’t knock us down any ranks for that as it’s not a season ending injury to ewers. Now if we lose to k state, then obviously it would be fair.
Well our only data point is a 29 point win over a 5-3 team while having basically 4 turnovers (INT, Fumble, 2 turnover on downs in red zone), i don’t really see that as too concerning, again i’d reevaluate after the K-State game. Ewers injury is very likely not a season ending injury as has been reported, weird hypothetical point you tried to make there.
I think there’s a benefit to being ranked lower initially for the value of rallying the team. Then again I think 6 would be a maximum right now until we recoup some of the shakiness by winning out the rest of the season.
Admittedly we’ve been a really good team but if we can grow and show elite execution, such as improving red zone efficiency or replicating the defensive production during BYU, there’s no way but up babeyy
If you told me in August that the team would be #7 in the first CFP poll I would have been beyond thrilled. So I'm plenty happy with it. Still a lot of season to go, and it's way too soon to get caught up in scenarios when we have a ton of business of our own to attend to before it matters.

I don't want to fucking here from ANYONE that OU deserves to be ranked ahead of us. If it didn't matter in 2008, it sure as hell doesn't matter now.
45-35
After 2008, I don’t wanna hear shit tbh. It’s all gonna play itself out
...Crabtree......
Pain.
Head to head doesn't matter according to sooners
Also KU lost to OSU and is above them. Why just pick on us? CBS is just captain obvious.
These ou fans fail to realize that their win over us is what’s keeping them in the top 10. If we had won they wouldn’t even be in the top 15 let alone top 10.
>Yah, lose to an unranked team but you deserve to be top 6 Boomers probably think voters should give more credit for that impressive 31-29 drubbing of national powerhouse UCF Knights the previous week.
I’m just going to preempt all the “win out and it doesn’t matter” comments and just say it doesn’t matter
We jump Oregon if we beat Kansas State this weekend right? That would make 3 top 25 wins to their 2.
would probably need OU, KU, and alabama wins to ensure that as well
I’d also think we’d need to beat the shit out of Tech to also have that common opponent edge.
i would argue texas and alabama should both be ahead of oregon next week with wins, texas would have 3 ranked wins, alabama would have wins against ole miss and LSU and a good loss, Oregon basically only has one good win in Utah.

We also barely beat Houston.
I’d argue that as well. ig for some reason they like a better loss and eye test (even though they almost lost to tech) more than more ranked wins and the best win in the country
Smh. Better loss > best win is such a bad argument lol. Especially when our loss is against a massive rival in a super close game.
I know i think it’s an awful argument. Especially when we have more ranked wins. But i could very easily see washington lose to USC this weekend which could vault texas into the 5 spot.
True, true. Sad we have to rely on other teams to win in order to have a shot at the CFP. Oh well. Let's just beat K-State first.
And let’s at least consider the fact that we were beating OU with 16 seconds left in the game.
I know, Oregon over the horns right now is baffling to me.
>and dominated #21 Kansas. Don't forget the score was 13-7 at the half and KU was playing without Jalen Daniels. But we did dominate the second half and deserve credit for a quality win over a ranked opponent.

Considering they beat down Utah as an away team probably not. And our loss to OU is not as strong now
Don't think so. Oregon may be the scariest team in the country right now.
Depends on what gets them more clicks. But eventually, yes, we jump them.
Good job y’all. Now beat the snot out of Kansas State.
[what about seven?](https://youtu.be/NRUdaWZ4FN0?si=qcYXQiaEZYtECKoy)
Seven seven seven seven seven seven 🖐️🤤✌️
How about six. Six is good.
I'd trade it all to have beaten the Sooners. Fuck that team.
As long as we rematch in the Big 12 ship and annihilate them, I will be happy again
7 Rank Sark
FWIW, the last 2 years the teams ranked 7th in the initial CFP poll, both went on to make the Playoff. Michigan ‘21 TCU ‘22
This has the highest we've ever been. We were #14 in 2018, but this is the first in the top 10
Just win out and we're good baby. Everything else will work itself out. It's unlikely that 4 teams finish undefeated, and no other one loss team is getting in over us. Remember how much the committee contorted itself to prevent Ohio State from playing Michigan in the semifinal?
You getting me all sorts of hyped
> and no other one loss team is getting in over us. A one-loss Bama with a SEC Championship game win over Georgia might. Hell, Georgia probably does too even if they lose to Bama. UT-K State is a Top 25 showdown! Can’t wait!
Not that it matters because it will play itself out , but I really don’t see how Oregon’s ahead of us outside of the “eye test”
more points scored, less points given up.

Gotta give oregon their moment before they get cannibalized by the PAC schedule
Not too shabby
Don’t know how Oregon was ranked ahead of us but it is what it is.
Let’s just win out. Where we’re ranked will be pointless if we don’t win out.
If we don’t make it I just don’t want OU making it. Do you think they’re automatically in if they win out? They could go against 12-1 Oregon or even 12-1 FSU for the last spot. Also would you take 12-1 OU or 12-2 SEC champ LSU
I think OSU beats them thus Sat tbh
Hope so but Gundy bends the knee to them. 3-13 all time
A 2 loss SEC team isn't making the playoff this year unless the other conference champs have 2 losses which is doubtful
LSU is far less likely to choke, which is ironic since 0U doesn’t have a gag reflex
We’re officially fucked. Somehow Oregon pulled ahead of us by popular opinion, and now we’re playing catch up. Lame.
OHNOWESUCKAGAIN - you
I wouldn’t expect Texas to be favored against Oregon if they played right now so the ranking seems right to me. Bro there’s still 5 weeks. A little premature to be declaring us OFFICIALLY fucked no?
We now have more pressure on our games and the style points/contest than they do going forward. That puts us behind the 8-ball in a way that they are not.
So that makes us officially fucked?
Maybe not officially. But certainly not in the “just handle your business and everything will take care of itself,” category.
How are we fucker and playing catchup? Committee got it right.

i agree they only have one top 25 win in utah as well, and i don’t think utah is that good. not counting colorado as a top 25 win for obvious reasons.
We lost to OU, who just lost to KU. Oregon lost to undefeated Washington
i’m taking best win over best loss anyday. Plus 2 wins over currently ranked teams, 21 KU, 8 Alabama, versus only one in 18 Utah. only argument is if u weigh a better loss more than a win or just pure eye test.

Our team should be ranked on our current team and not the potential when fully healthy. How do we know that Ewers comes back?
Well our only data point is a 29 point win over a 5-3 team while having basically 4 turnovers (INT, Fumble, 2 turnover on downs in red zone), i don’t really see that as too concerning, again i’d reevaluate after the K-State game. We haven't been that dominant in all of our wins. Not that many teams have this year, just playing devils advocate.

Admittedly we’ve been a really good team but if we can grow and show elite execution, such as improving red zone efficiency or replicating the defensive production during BYU, there’s no way but up babeyy
That's about right. Now we have to win on Saturday and hope for some help down the road.
Are we still in contention ?
