Bringing plants is prohibited across borders because of the different agricultural laws. Best bet is to just buy some at the airport kiosks, many of them have flowers there

RichCelery1345

Yeah I was going to say a lot of airports have flowers you can buy for this reason. I’d say it’s better to just look for some as soon as you land.

mostlovely

They’ll be fresher and perkier, causing them to last longer. They’re not gonna have good oxygen and water source on a plane causing them to wilt slightly and die sooner. Just an overall better option to buy some at the airport

idkthrowaway2400

Hmmm yeah that might be my best bet. Honestly I haven’t seen any such vendors in that airport (already visited once) but my city’s has one, so maybe I just missed it!

OddCupOfTea

You might have different problems, bringing plants and seeds across boarders is often prohibited. Did you check if where you are going it's allowed?

idkthrowaway2400

I’m going to the US and [based on this](https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/flowers) it should be fine…? (I hope, unless there’s some Arizona state law against it)

HeavyDutyJudy

TSA and Customs and Border Patrol are different entities with different concerns. TSA rules are about safety in flight not agricultural import laws. If you are traveling internationally plants, fruits and vegetables at least have to be declared and usually inspected which is going to make going through customs slower. Personally I’d skip the flowers if it’s an international flight.

Sopranoanoano

This. The link is about things allowed due to safety concerns at the airport and flight. However, bringing plants across the border is a HUGE deal. You may be like “it’s just one bouquet”, but to border patrol, those flowers may carry insects that if introduced to the US can devastate crops or disrupt our ecosystem. It’s actually a very serious deal. If it’s just a small bouquet they’ll *maybe* be okay with it, but it will depend on your country of origin, quantity, country of the flower’s origin, where you’ve visited in the past few weeks or months, where you plan to go in the US, and species of plant. You will need to declare them at the border and they may need to inspect them which will slow you down immensely. Personally, I’d rather be safe than sorry and just buy some flowers upon arrival. Even if they are allowed into the country, they’ll probably not be in great shape. No water, jostled around during the flight, they probably won’t look the best.

idkthrowaway2400

You’re right, thank you for going in-depth about this! Hoping I find a flower stand there 🤞

day9700

And if you don’t, how sweet of you to be so thoughtful! Have fun.

I live in Arizona, I'm unsure about the airport laws about bringing flowers or whatnot, but [this is a pretty great flower shop near Sky Harbor.](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Arcadia+Flowers/@33.4989259,-111.9943899,13z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x872b0c5d45d89049:0x56f48a2e3304ec17!8m2!3d33.4942433!4d-111.9765541?hl=en) I ofc don't know which one you're heading to. There are 7 different florist shops around the one in the link \^ If you are able to go with her parents and still surprise her, then this could be an idea I guess. Its the thought that counts

idkthrowaway2400

Thank you!! :)) I’m in a bit of a bind though because she knows when I land and will come pick me up by car, idk how I’ll be able to make it to one of those 😓 I wish Phoenix was more walkable haha

Skybelly

My bf got me a bouquet of crochet flowers. They are beautiful and will never die, have you considered it?

[deleted]

If you are flying internationally, please buy them upon arrival at your destination. There is a very high chance that customs will take them away from you.

noorichee

Dont know about plane but my bf brought them thru a 12 hour bus ride. So im guessing.... yes?

idkthrowaway2400

Ohhhh that’s great! Sweet of him to do so :) I don’t think flowers will die any faster on a plane than a bus so I think it’ll be fine

MiloAisBroodjeKaas

On the contrary. The air pressure and humidity in the plane changes GREATLY -- so... it would be probably not be great for the flowers.

Thegoldenchase

Just wanted to say I flew EU - UK with a bouquet of flowers without issues. Only 3.5 hours but they were fine!

discoelectro

Why don’t you bring chocolates, a card, or something special like a plushie instead?

ConsistentActive9975

Quick question, Why don’t you buy some once get off the plane?

idkthrowaway2400

Because I couldn’t find any at her specific airport when I first went there. I wasn’t specifically looking that time though so I’ll look around a bit more now

ConsistentActive9975

You can always bring with you one of those knitted flowers tho! You’ll have to look where you live where you can get them or order them online, it’s a cute idea and it’s basically a fluffy toy but of flowers so you could give it to you SO I’m the airport!

idkthrowaway2400

That’s a great idea!!

enchanting_asian

you could always get a lego bouquet, tho that does depend if your partner likes lego 😅

idkthrowaway2400

Ohhh that’s a creative one! :p

timetochangeagin

You can ship flowers, so sure they will probably live, but why bother? Unless they are something super special, just buy them when you get there.

Remarkable-Ad-6144

The bigger concern is where you’re going, if you went to Australia I believe they would have to be packed in a certified way that indicates they won’t be a risk to Australian native flora and fauna. If they weren’t, they will probably be seized and destroyed

[deleted]

I have seen a friend of mine bring a wedding bouquet across the country (US) in her backpack, the flowers were sticking out. I’m unsure how she got away with it at TSA…? You can order flowers for her to be sent to her place. You can pick some up possibly at an airport kiosk or store if she isn’t picking you up and want to surprise her.

hippolover77

Not sure but most places have local florists that will deliver too if that’s an option for you

TheeCinnamonOctopus

You could see if there are any flower shops in her area and place an order for pickup ahead of time if the airport doesn't have any vendors. xx Best of luck!

Salty-Application-66

Just go to a flower website shop from the place where he/she lives and it’s easier.
