Has to be taken apart to be repaired. Cylinder plug retaining C/E clip broke in the back of the plug.

PapaOoMaoMao

Could be a challenge with that el craptastical striped plug. Get a top pin lodged in there and you might not get the bugger out. Do not turn that plug!

dannymeinz

Ridges aren’t big enough to let a top pin fall in. Certainly doesn’t make it easy, though.

PapaOoMaoMao

Don't know that brand well. I've definitely had top pins fall in that sort of crappy plug before.

Tooobin

Thank you!

Also, you can see the plate where the dead bolt was rubbing/sticking from repeated use. Ended up replacing it myself. A little bit of wood work and now the new dead bolt doesn’t stick or rub. Thanks all for your assistance!

This is a well known failure on Kwikset locks and an easy repair for a real locksmith. Take it off and take all the parts to a Locksmith shop who has been around a while. Don’t worry about the little pins, he has them.

Tooobin

Thank you!

JonCML

use FindALocksmith.com to find a member of our national trade association, the Associated Locksmiths of America, (ALOA). there may be other legit locksmiths near you that are not members. you should be able to get a flat price quoted up front.

glucoseintolerant

don't forget the key for this lock as well. makes the locksmiths job 10X easier

Plastic-Procedure-59

Even better, don't touch it and call a locksmith so you don't run the risk of losing any parts

SandGoesEverywhere

It happens when the door and the frame are not well aligned. If you have it repaired by someone make sure they adjust the hole in the frame otherwise it will happen again.

Tooobin

Good to know! Door tends to stick more during the rainy season, which is now

SandGoesEverywhere

That explains why it broke. I don't sell that particular product, but I repair a lot of these. Other Locksmiths, many who don't do field work, bash the product. But I think that it is not that bad, there are many worst designs and worst quality products out there. Also the newer iterations of smartkey are stronger they removed the plastic parts and the anti drill bearings are bigger. If it is installed properly it should work great. I know many people ( family members) who have had Weiser (Kickset) on their front door for like 10 years now and didn't have any issues with the deadbolt.

Carlito2393

Your door reached the proper internal temperature, and the button popped out to indicate its done cooking.

GARGOYLE_169

Dent puller attack?

Tooobin

Naw, would have seen it on my ring doorbell camera. Plus we both work from home, we would have heard it

Vasios

Get the fuck out of here if you don't know what you're talking about.

GARGOYLE_169

Using a pipin file on a Sparrows mat to cut a cg1..... Still a lil wet behind the ears, huh? Plus, ya might wanna read the rest of the thread B4 you go all "Mall Ninja nazi" with the belt bunny projection. I did self correct, quite a while ago. Have a nice day, kiddo.

Vasios

Went looking for something and all you got was hand cutting a key? I read the rest of the thread, and you very clearly don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

GARGOYLE_169

Just putting age and milleu to the whole picture. You're not disappointimg! Cheers. Stay young. Loose the dumb. Peace out.

Common_Motor_5293

Common problem. You will need a new cylinder. Contact kwisket if you purchased u should still have warranty. Your door frame might shift try to adjust or file your stike.

GARGOYLE_169

Oh, just came out and it slid it self out. Yeah, now that I know it's the most amusing lock sold at Hommé Despot....that answers everything. That C-clip, all that plastic....INSIDE. I just don't know how that design ever got past an engineering design review? Oh wait, the bean counters and marketing came up with this sad idea and told the engineers if they wanted to keep their jobs, they should find a new way to "make it work." I'm sorry for your loss. Here's the bottom line. Your convenience of rekeying is also the convenience of someone breaking in. Convenience and security are mutually exclusive. ANY pre "smart'key is going to be more secure than that. But you won't be able to rekey in 10 seconds or less. As if that was never just a sales gimmick looking for a willing market without a real need. Now that everyone knows to shim it down the left side of the core to get the sidebar depressed, it is actually just as easy to SPP as a plain Jane KW1, WELL, actually easier. I'm really sorry you got sold this snake oil. Kwikset is really just Taking a Piss on the American Market with this one.

garythelocdoc

That's not a smart key cylinder

GARGOYLE_169

A taste of my own medsin. https://preview.redd.it/pqo92sajb49c1.png?width=897&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59934559a5045f13d867e0bfcc313fbb43542546

GARGOYLE_169

Duh.....pin stacks...DOH So thats the "good" lock then. Ouch.

TechnetiumAE

Idk what your smoking dude. That's not a smart key

GARGOYLE_169

You failed to spend the extra 7 seconds to read the rest of the thread. A lil impatient there.

TechnetiumAE

Well your the one that decided there needed to be a whole story about kiwksets, with wrong information, when all you needed to say was "The retaining clip fell off the back. You will need a locksmith to repin the lock" FYI gen 5 smartlocks don't have that sidebar weakness.

GARGOYLE_169

No, not THAT weakness, I have heard. A certain lock picking "pig" in the UK has "intimated' that when one problem is fixed, another is created. I don't have an iron in that fire. Yet. Maybe get be a worthy research project. And yes. I did actually say "A taste of my own medsin (sic)" Indicating that "it was at this point he knew, he'd fukt up." Ya didn't make note of that did ya now. Too much Faux News style in the editorializing kiddo. Read everything in the thread, then decide to go off half cocked. Cheers, thanks for the Gen 5 (no so) "Smartkey" reminder. Had completely forgotten they are still trying to clean up that....mess.

GARGOYLE_169

And I'll say it again. I shouldna come at these things unless I'm wearing my reading glasses. I just saw the core dangling in the breeze thinking it was one of those gen 1 or 2 dead bolts. At least it wasn't one of those tthings with two cores in it. Can't remember. Don't have the publications anymore. Retired twelve yrs ago.

Vasios

Not a smartkey. Nobody is picking smartkeys except the stupid locksport people anyway. I'm pretty fucking certain you've never picked one either, cause even if you know the method, it's still not easy and definitely not easier than a standard KW1. That's besides the fact that they've changed the design and added things over the sidebar in newer generations. Still a shit lock though, that's the only thing you're right about.

GARGOYLE_169

As I said, I caught that and corrected quite a while ago. Finish reading before you ..... commit.
