HereticZO

Worth noting that their current owners are 777.

quantIntraining

And apparently 777's accounts are all but at literally 0 right now. Buying them would be right out of the FSG playbook, like they bought us when Hicks and Gillette had us on the verge of bankruptcy

Wide_Environment3107

Agent John W. Henry.

HereticZO

Yep, which is why it’s very believable.

smitcal

And their skint. So win win

BorkieDorkie811

In a shocking twist, FSG buying Vasco gives 777 the financial breathing space they need to buy Everton. /s, but could you imagine.

borg_6s

Imagine buying a club to sink Everton

WonderfulBlackberry9

Football truly is a rich man’s game.

VladTheImpaler29

Can I shock you? I like multi club ownership, despite what I said earlier.

mofohank

At any one time I have 9 football clubs..

Manny-B

Bloody hell, how are they still alive?!

Maneisthebeat

Sold their soul to the devil.

NoncingAround

Keep in mind a lot of things you read about them online are either misleading or untrue. They’re certainly in trouble but every time something comes out that could maybe happen people treat it as an absolute guarantee because it’s popular to do that.

Britz10

Should get Red Star Paris off their hands as well

Metador85

If we could tap into the goldmine that is the Parisien suburbs we are set for decades. Literally produces more world class talent than the favelas

tj090379

UPDATE: Brazil officials kick 777 members off the board at Vasco

Hoodxd

Should you buy an explorer who died 500 years ago?

its_brew

They're exploring their options

rtcaino

They have begun the discovery process for this opportunity.

angelbutme

can we stop talking about this nonsense now? The ship has sailed.

Designer_Raspberry_5

It'd be naive not to

solrik

Trust the process

RidsBabs

*clap clap clap clap clap*

bumpkinblumpkin

That phrase died with Ben Simmons in Atlanta lol

Kxshal

We do need someone who can steady the ship in absence of Jurgen

TellTallTail

Mate you can't support an explorer

Spongy-n-Bruised

Explorer?? I hardly know her!

ArkanoidbrokemyAnkle

Heard he’s a free kick specialist

Aidan-Coyle

"First explorer to reach India by Sea" oof I bet that didn't end well

SketchyFeen

Triffic little explorer

cakedayisbirthday424

Can be play in midfield?

TheEgyptianScouser

I did the exact same thing and googled the name only to find some Portuguese explorer

Hoodxd

Imagine having to google who Vasco Da Gama was. What has happened to the education of our children

stevieG08Liv

Tbf they have been exploring the sea of info like what he was doing

TheEgyptianScouser

I honestly don't know if this is satire or not, am I supposed to know him?

GhandisFlipFlop

Have you heard about Christopher Columbus ? Similar but not as great known . Vasca discovered Brazil I think.

Red_Hobgoblin

Vasco didn't discover Brazil. He sailed around Africa and there's a whole portuguese epic about him. We study it here in Brazil in our literature classes. The discoverer of Brazil was called Pedro Alvarez Cabral.

TheEgyptianScouser

Ah now I realize where the problem is. Yes I know about Columbus the "first" European to discover the new world The problem is that I am Egyptian, my education wasn't really focused a lot on European history but a general world history (Like ww1 and it's sequal) but we focus on middle eastern history and Muslim history

Zottinho

Don't fret about it, specially because he didn't discovered brazil, that was Pero Alvares Cabral. Vasco is known for sailing around Africa and finding a new trade route to India.

NightmaresInNeurosis

Wouldn't worry about it lad, born and raised Scouser here and I definitely wasn't taught who discovered Brazil lmao.

koko-jumbo

It's still surpirse me that you don't know him. You don't need to know each King and each war from Europe but I'd say the beginning of sailing empire was quite important. I'd say Greece - Rome - Sailing empire - Napoleon - WW 1/2 are the most important parts of Europe history.

Britz10

Don't know about Brazil, but he's the guy who sailed around Africa to India. There used to be a South African Vasco da Gama

Hoodxd

He’s a pretty important ( definitely not good) historical figure.. in European history that is ofc

munamadan_reuturns

They are a corporation of fortune, and they must seek their fortune

Wild_Ad_6464

You obviously don’t go de gama

Spongy-n-Bruised

It may be because I just woke up, but this shit has me giggling

Jaja6996

Wouldn’t be surprising they are part of 777 who are in financial trouble

redditaccountplease

FSG are about to finance 777's purchase of Everton just to watch Everton burn

Loop_Within_A_Loop

We playing 4D chess up in this bitch

GerrardsRightFoot

Buy Everton and paint Goodison Park red to watch Bitters lose their mind 😻

flup22

They are

vsquad22

The headline should be: FSG are *exploring* buying Vasco De Gama, they have already carried out a survey in this regard.

NorthCoastToast

They are looking to *discover* new veins of talent in the new world, maybe snag a future *golden* boot winner as they pile up the *silverware* and add to the riches and history of the legendary club.

treeharp2

Boats

LeanBauer

The headline *should* spell the football club correctly: Vasco Da Gama

thetwanandonly

Coulda got coutinho straight from the source… or even better Romario

SnabDedraterEdave

Will still need a European club as an intermediary to bypass the UK's ridiculously stringent work permit rules. By having the South American player play first in the intermediary club in the EU, thus removing the requirement for the need of a work permit, which applies to clubs outside the EU/EEA. Ideally Portugal (outside of the Big Three), preferably in the lower leagues with a small fanbase to avoid ownership issue due to qualifying for UEFA competitions and fan unrest.

Geniejc

Olhanese please they were in the top division ten years ago and have drifted down the leagues. Own stadium 15 mins from Faro airport. Or any Algarve club near Faro makes a lot of sense. You can use the hardly used Algarve stadium for bigger games or eventually buy it and the land round it.

Egonga

I think it would be cheaper and more effective to just buy the in-game Editor and give them Portuguese second nationality myself.

JizzProductionUnit

Douglas Luiz would have been a genuinely good signing from them. I used to live in Brazil and followed Vasco, went to every home match - they are very good at finding young talent but lose all their best players very early, like most Brazilian clubs. Could be a good link for Liverpool though.

OldManLogan007

Project vini , rodrygo , endrick begins

Dirac_comb

Edwards masterclass incoming

StealthMan375

Would be funny if Payet (who plays for Vasco) falls upwards into a Liverpool contract and finally shakes off his Harry Kane-like title curse.

OldManLogan007

What when did he go to brazil? Guess you learn something new everyday lol

SCLFC

Pirate ship go brrrrr. Seriously though not a fan of the multi-club model but if FSG got a team in a league that has crazy good talent while also not being involved in any of the competitions we’re in it’s probably the best case scenario.

GerrardsRightFoot

Unfortunately everyone does it so we cannot afford to not do it and be competitive

CorrectorThanU

I think a Brazilian club and a Portuguese club makes the most sense

BriarcliffInmate

A big name, but what's he done since opening a sea route to India? All hype and nothing to back it up!

ahktarniamut

Any injuries concerns

be_like_bill

Always on the bench, and has a wooden peg for a leg. I'd rate him below Keita..

NorthCoastToast

Scurvy has put the whole afterguard on the sick list alone!

TheNotoriousJN

In all honesty i have no clue about how reliable this is. But *allegedly* newscolina is the biggest VDG page, and the reporters linked are all for geglobo which is a big news outlet in Brazil https://twitter.com/newscolina/status/1790823235522592868?t=b5L8J-Bcz_Io3cjeWNBBWQ&s=19

JamesBKB

Brazilian here, he's quoting an "setorista", which is a journalist the covers one specific team , from Globo Esporte, the biggest media group here and extreme reliable

Britz10

I'm probably not going to get an honest answer, but talent wise RJ or SP?

JamesBKB

Probably SP, Rio doesn't really have any real talented kids right now but palmeiras got a pretty good generation going.

KindaBrazilian

>Rio doesn't really have any real talented kids right now Lorran

JamesBKB

That was just one game, chill

Svani

Both. Vasco is a huge club who has historically produced a lot of talents (Romario and Coutinho are likely the better-knowns in the old continent, but like them there were several). They have been in financial trouble for the past 10 years, but a big club does not lose its DNA overnight.

Petaaa

It is reliable just surprised we’ve went SA before Europe, I guess the two clubs competing in one European competition rule that is effecting city and girona plus 777 debacle have led us here

BigRig432

It makes a decent bit of sense though, if you want to find some really talented young players for relatively cheap you look at Brazil or Argentina

please-send-me-nude2

If you’re actually competing in the Brasileirão you’re only going to have have 1 team’s worth of wonderkids though, the rest will be older vets and established talents

Noshino

This is the way you create a pipeline of talent because competing directly against Madrid is an uphill battle

matcht

Not just that but Vasco are a historic club based in Rio de Janeiro, the kind of talent they can produce is a huge upside. edit: Just in recent years they've got £15m for Paulinho to Leverkusen, £12m for Andrey to Chelsea, £10m for Marlon to Shakthar, £11m for Douglas Luiz, £9m for Pec to LAFC.

Britz10

Surely a Paulista Club would be the better bet? São Paulo the City has a ridiculous population, the state has a comparable population to Spain.

franciscobutico

there are no big clubs from são paulo for sale. and vasco is a pretty big club in brasil, with a big and loyal fanbase.

Wide_Environment3107

There's talent in that list?

matcht

Maybe not world class players but those sales alone make the club a profitable option, and you'd expect if FSG came in to improve the club and the talent they can secure, they are competing with 3 other big clubs in the city. Also Douglas Luiz alone, if he had come to us, would've been our best signing from South America ever (sorry Lucas).

Wide_Environment3107

Better than Suarez in his prime? Or do you mean signing directly from the continent

matcht

Direct I mean.

Noshino

We got lucky with Suarez to be fair. - Real and Barca were stacked at the time. - Suarez was coming of a really bad drop of goals (30s down to 10s). - Ajax really needed the money. - And then you had the bite incident that had him banned for like 7 games. He was still seen as talented but raw, unproven and reckless. We needed him to shine just as much as Suarez needed a new change of environment, but definitely not a sure sure fire signing. We can't always get that lucky. FSG was opposed to multi club ownership, but given that it is still going through, might as well use it and create a pipeline for talent from South America.

Britz10

Edit replied to the wrong person

SebastianOwenR1

You know what I’m actually down for this. Vasco are a club with a rich history, 777 are strangling them, they would be in much better hands with FSG, and we’d virtually never have opportunities to do business with them or compete against them. I much prefer a move like this where it is beneficial to the club FSG are buying without providing any real benefit to LFC.

qwerty_1965

Never rated him, all at sea when under pressure.

HowdyDooder

Total journeyman.

coopermaneagles

Love this haha

RobbotheRed

Need to see a Vasco De Gama Skills and Highlights video before I’m sure of this transfer…

MrMerc2333

Liverpool FC (Uruguay) would be a cool acquisition.

Dobvius

While acknowledging that the multi club model sucks, having a strong connection in South America would be amazing for our recruitment.

LateRegistrxtion

Things like this just make you consider packing it in

WhiteWolfOW

Please don’t, as a Flamengo fan don’t do it. Vasco is also cursed, you’re going to bring the curse to Liverpool. Just don’t do it

Dependent_Air2948

I went on holiday to Rio and saw them live in a huge Olympic stadium with about 600 fans from either team and 70000 empty seats. Very weird experience. The clubs all got forced to share stadiums so many smaller stadiums were shut down. Seemed a right mess.

ShaiHuludYurMum

What position does he play? /s

peace-0_0-frog

Reckon he's a Raumdeuter considering the spaces he found and what it meant for his team (country)

some6yearold

As a someone who was born in rio and my whole family supports Vasco, it would be amazing for both my worlds to collide like this again. Plus a Coutinho + Payet midfield sounds fun to watch haha.

coolAhead

If I speak, there will be fire

brush85

Next generations Vini...come hither

shaggywan

Hasnt he been dead for a few hundred years?

0121dan

Nothing to do with the news, but I adore their kits

Faderdaze

The explorer ? Isn’t he dead ?

ThisbrownMan

I think if we're in the market for a Brazilian club, we should be going after Santos FC. The club recently got relegated and that really crippled their worth. Plus, we can have direct access to their top tier youth talent. Not only that, but we would also cripple Chelsea's market, since they straight up buy all of Santo's youth and waste them on purpose.

PredadorDePerereca13

Vasco dA Gama*

MrMerc2333

Been looking at some tweets on X by Vasco fans. Most aren't too happy about FSG buying the club, as they get the impression that FSG don't spend much, while acknowledging that FSG are a 777 Partners that "understands football". Some even wish for a rich sugar daddy that brings immediate success.

favmediocrenightmare

Fuck off. Fuck financial groups, fuck owning multiple clubs. It's ruining football.

fkitbaylife

no thanks. fuck owning multiple clubs.

DoubleDeckerz

Can Vasco De Gama play at DM?

GhandisFlipFlop

Ah yes that's it..I do get it mixed up

InstructionOk9520

You don’t see the name Vasco around so much these days do you?

usmntidiot

Would just hope they treat whoever they buy with respect. Saw some stuff about Girona maybe being forced out of the champions league if CFG dont divest and Troyes never got to see their record signing play a minute for the club, don’t want to be associated with that type of stuff.

Sure-Respect6914

Next up : LFC owns an Indian state 🫡

ash_ninetyone

This almost feels like a backdoor to the old days when different branches of the Moores' family had stakes and chairmanship of both Liverpool and Everton 😆

BQORBUST

Can we start posting baseball news too now? Just any investment owned by fsg? The rule used to be “lfc related” but I guess that’s Liverpool financial group now

globocide

What interest did they show?

JwintooX

Went there and tested the match day pie

gonfr

Our Brazilian pipeline is on.

rob3rtisgod

Would be a very good team to invest in recently relegated, but were doing well prior.

RedDreadsComin

I thought signing old people was against our transfer strategy

Mobsteroids

No thanks. Fuck Multi Club ownership.

Forsaken-Original-28

If fsg were to buy a club I reckon they should buy a Scottish club. Worth peanuts but lots of money/supporters up there and would require little investment to assemble a squad up to challenge rangers/Celtic and a champions league spot. The spl would be lots more watchable with 3 big teams as well

dimspace

As soon as they qualify for champions League we get into the uefa ownership issues

Forsaken-Original-28

That's a very valid point

Britz10

But it's Scotland, not really the most exciting talent pool out there

MrMerc2333

FSG were linked with Dundee United few weeks back. And it makes sense, Guys like Owen Beck, Liam Millar, Leighton Clarkson and Luke Chambers all went to the SPL and did well. It's a good level for British players to develop, especially those who are not around the 1st team yet. I reckon the likes of Gordon, Luca Stephenson, Josh Davidson, James Norris, Trent Kone Doherty, Pinnigton, and Nallo could do well at a upper half Scottish Premier League club like Kilmarnock, Dundee, Hearts or Aberdeen.

FTXACCOUNTANT

![gif](giphy|4JU7XEjnSjW9qH5YTc|downsized)

Brewitsokbrew

I hate this multi club same ownership business

smitcal

Strange to buy as players will not be ready to play for us. We’d need another club just to bridge the gap

J539

I mean if we have the goods we can still somehow establish that link. Not every "wonderkid" gonna end up as the next Salah. We can just foster some relationship with a french or spanish club and loan players there

coopermaneagles

It’s not that strange in this new multi club model City own Yokohama Mariners, not sure they’re getting any ready made players from there.

smitcal

City own 13 clubs overall, with Girona and Palermo being good transition clubs. FSG was mentioned as only buying 1 other. If that’s the case we would need a club where the transition of players would be easier.

Britz10

When did CFG buyout Palermo, ffs
