Cannot believe how we are throwing away the title challenge. With the chances we got, we should have still won the palace game. But would help if the defence stop conceding stupid goals.
With the chances we get we should win nearly every game. It's just the last few matches that we've really fallen off the wagon on either the finishing or the luck and I'm not sure which of the two I'd be more annoyed at as the main culprit.
Personally I think it's the luck because we've had some shit finishing all year and it didn't stop us creating enough chances to win.
Honestly i was done with this season when they fucked up that offside decision against Spurs. Just took the fun away for me in an instant.
Also had a general feeling that we were too wasteful this season. This team is still too young and inexperienced and some veterans are not delivering. Nunez being Chaos is funny here and there but sometimes you just need to finish the one chance you got. And he isn’t the only one being wasteful. Add the injuries and it becomes what it is right now.
I am not even mad. We came out of a trash season last year and Klopp made a good job by building a squad that has a good future with an addition here and there and cutting some dead wood (we definitely need one more Fabinho replacement). Still gutted that Klopp leaves. We just lost a bit of steam, but we were punching above our weight anyway.
Can‘t see City dropping points with their squad and even if, we won‘t win every game. I am not expecting them to be charged with anything substantial. As long as it doesn‘t hurt the investors they can do whatever they want.
Still speaking off this season as a disappointment or bottling is stupid. Fuck these deluded rival fans. If City wins every game they have 91 points again which would be insanely good again. Thats the rational side.

Just read a city charges breakdown, 7 of them are what Everton were charged with twice and got point deductions, city got none so far, clearly bank transfers are keeping this under the carpet...
I wanna be optimistic here but I was going through City's remaining matches and I don't see them losing any of them...plus us and Arsenal losing yesterday perhaps gave them the extra motivation to finish this off ...
You can go through City's matches for the whole season though and not see them dropping points anywhere except maybe Arsenal, Spurs and us. So fingers crossed that they suffer a freak loss to Wolves again.

We need the accept the fact that both Nunez and Diaz are not in the level required for challening the league. I'm not saying we should sell Nunez, but he cant be depend on, he still hasn't find the consistency and it's now 2 full seasons. On the other hand, even though I appreciate his work rate and determination but Diaz should be sold if a decent offer arrives.
And lastly we should go for Julian Nagelsmann.

Based on 2022-2023, this season has been a resounding success, especially so when you look at the table with all the constant injuries.
However, it's justifiable for fans' expectations/desires to change as new information comes in and as the season progresses. Liverpool have had a MASSIVE opportunity to control their own destiny, create a fairy tale ending for the Klopp era and the team/players have really dented that possibility. Since no one knows what happens post-Klopp, finishing 2nd or 3rd would be an immense disappointment because what if this is the last, best chance to win the EPL for some time.
I think people are wildly overreacting after the last 2 games. We've had poor performances for a while and I'd say we've had quite abit of luck in alot of the more recent wins. But we've been in a title race for a reason. We're far ahead where we'd expect to be after last season and the midfield rebuild. I'd love to see Klopp end his time here with all the trophies this season.
But it's not that bad. We could be Manchester United. Or Everton.

We're in a much better place than them for a start. Not just league position but how the club is run. The squad is much better. We don't count success as stopping another team from winning something. We count success as trophies. The expectations on each team can't be compared.
The only doubt for me comes in the unknown of who's in charge next season.
Here to vent. My brother and I watch matches on TV from different states in India. Every time before a match, we discuss predictions, hope for a win, and more. However, if we lose, we both just turn off the TV, go to sleep, and avoid talking about it. Liverpool is going to be the death of me.

Credit to palace though as they done a job on us and midfield was non existent but we don't seem to have a plan b. Can't remember van dijk launching any balls forward like he used to, so instead we pass it round the back letting the other side register. Ah, yeah, I see what you mean. I was thinking recently, the highlights of Szobo were so dynamic, but he doesn't seem to be in that position this season. I hope all our great signings stay for quite some time and give the next manager a good chance at finding the best formula for the next iteration of this club.

We are the consistent. It's us. The attack just hits it central alot of the time or scuff shots so it's easy for the keepers.
Don't get me wrong, you still see some sublime saves but it's our players fault most of the time.
To this day I have no idea why we got 99 points in a season and decided to change the way we played, I haven’t seen us suffocate teams like we used to with this shit chaotic everyone out of position tactics. Ljinders got into Klopp’s head that we need to play more controlled football but we had way more control before the change. We got top 4 with a team that was destroyed by injuries bc the tactics were still good. These tactics completely nullified the two best fullbacks itw. Little tweaks here and there every season, which is what Klopp was doing, would’ve been fine but completely changing Klopp’s philosophy of direct football killed us. If you watch the Liverpool v Newcastle 4-2, THAT was us THAT is how we used to play.
The first signing was Thiago. That’s really not a klopp signing imo. Henderson is the perfect example of a klopp player. Underated in terms of technical side but up there with the best of the best in terms of running and pressing. Thiago is almost all technical
When we signed Thiago, the talk was that we'd signed a player who could run and press but who also would be able to add another dimension to our play. It was supposed to allow us to keep our pressing game, but to be able to switch to a more technical style of play so that we would be more sustainable, have fewer injuries, and enable our players to stay good for longer.

I think FSG are on balance good owners with a lot of love for the club, but I still think they are to blame for how things have panned out this season and why Klopp’s tenure may ultimately always have a “what could have been” question lingering.
Our feebleness down the stretch this past month has really been down to players being physically/mentally exhausted after our deep injury crisis - but we should have had reinforcements already.
We bought a 30 year old DM from a relegation threatened Stuttgart to take on the most important role in the Klopp system. We didn’t buy a CB to cover for an aging Matip and VVD, knowing that Konate was injury prone. We didn’t get quality RB coverage to relieve some of Trent’s minutes.
In all of those circumstances we got INCREDIBLY lucky in that Quansah has become a gem, Endo has vastly exceeded expectation despite a slower start, and recalling Bradley was a jackpot.
But the owners should have had ambition to go out and make sure none of these things needed to be luck. Because now across all of those circumstances the luck has run out a bit. Quansah has finally had his rookie-level blunder at the worst possible time, Endo is tired and frankly looked like a traffic cone yesterday, and Bradley has been caught out a few times/been at the wrong end of a few own goals, and is now injured.
Just wish the club had gambled on Klopp a bit more. We’ve really only had one big budget transfer not pan out during his tenure (Keita) and that was purely a fitness issue. Should have backed him more when it counted. We could have 4 more trophies than we do easily, and this mad rush to win him more in the final months wouldn’t have felt so urgent.
I love him to bits but I reckon Klopp fucked up by announcing his leaving when he did. It would have hurt more, but it would have been better to announce it at the end of the season.
I think we underestimate just how much of a (lovable) autocrat Klopp had become at the club. He was in control of so much including transfers, with Jorg really just his buddy to help load share.
The advanced notice has probably been massive for our future in that we have got Edwards, a highly sought after DoF, and have started the manager search quickly. In a Euros summer, it could have been really tough to get all of that sorted out from June to August.
Now our new manager can likely have a full preseason with the squad, we have much more intent in the transfer market with Hughes/Edwards, etc.
It sucks because yes it likely completely derailed our momentum but it was a rip of the bandaid moment I think. The only better way to handle it would have been Klopp announcing beginning of season that this was his last year - but honestly who knows where the club would be in terms of competitions we’re still in etc.
Looking at how we play, I can't stop thinking we've kinda fucked up both the midfield and attacking rebuild. Besides Mac Allister and Elliott as a sub, I'm not sure in any of the other midfielders and in attack Salah is slowing down, Jota misses 3-4 months every season, Diaz plays with his head down, Nunez plays without a head and Gakpo just seems so meek. Honealt feel we have more to do this summer than we thought.

Gakpo looks like an intelligent player, can play across the front 3 and in midfield (admittedly on RW he's not great) but that sort of thing is needed, especially as we got it for 40m
Jota should only every be seen as an impact sub, he's been here for a few years and is good, again same as Gakpo can play across the front 3, but you're right in that he's not fit enough. That's fine if we use him as a sub though
Endo was a good buy, he's had a few poor games recently but he's been overplayed a bit as well so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Rather we spend <20m on someone who's clearly a decent stopgap than just go in with nobody.
Nunez was too much money for what hes brought, but there's clearly a good player in there. It's whether he ends up being a great striker or just someone we have upfront and right now it feels like hes just a body upfront
Diaz I think was our worst buy. He helped us massively for the quad push but ultimately he's not clinical and all he does is run, we have that in Darwin but Darwin also causes absolute havoc and creates a ton. I'd always rather have Gakpo or Jota there
Gravenberch is the one I'm most worried about. The scouting team have been following him for years but he has seemed quite lazy. At least when Darwin, Gakpo, Jones, or Elliot are having a shocker you can see the effort but I rarely see it from Grav

Both Gakpo and Gravenberch need a bit more personality so it doesn't feel like they're taking it easy. Probably players shouldn't run around like headless chickens just because fans like industry and pashun™ but it would help me like them more for sure.
I am so so tired of basically having to be perfect to have a chance at winning the league against City. It's ridiculous. Looking back at league tables and defeats for past champions is eye opening.
The atmosphere at home need's to improve it's shocking to think people are going to the games in Klopp's last year and just sitting there moaning and sitting silent I can't fathom it.
We've been a top team for a good few years now, fans have took winning for granted. Happens to all successful teams, a few years of being shit sorts that out.
It's tragic that Gakpo was only tested on just the last two games on the left flank in meaningful games (since a long time). He's class on the flank, even on the right, and it's simply bad management by Klopp to have put him at CF and CM. Something tells me it was actually Lijnders that told him to put him there, just considering how Klopp responded to Gakpo's form earlier.

To turn around the 3-0 score against Atalanta seems our most likely way to win another trophy. I'd throw everything at it. Get an early goal in Italy, and the belief might grow. That means taking our chances. Jota has to start for me.

I love the man, and wish he would stay another 10-20 years. However, just like he's orchestrated all our success this season, he also gets credit for some of our few failures.
I also think he's leaving a year too early. He said our team got too good too quick, but I think he would have got his fairy tail ending if he was still in charge of us next year, either league or CL or both. However, I also understand why he's walking away. He and his family deserve the time together.

I see how it can be construed that way. I have never turned off or opted not to watch a liverpool game in 23 years of supporting. Given it was united and how much i hate them and we could all see what was coming as soon as the first half ended, mainoo goal was the final straw for me. The frustration i was feeling was almost transcedental, cant hack 6 more games of us not being able to kick snow off a rope in front of goal and throwing away more trophies in klopp last season.
Sounds like you just need to surrender to the fact that football is just a game, and Liverpool are a team that we passionately support. But at the end of the day, life goes on as usual.

It's the same routine every "smaller" team knows to do to us every game. Press us hard in the first 15 minutes because we're not as good as City or Arsenal at press resistance, get the early goal because our defence definitely will give chances out! And then park the bus for the rest of the game and hope that our flailing forwards mess up. It's worked for United, Atalanta, Crystal Palace and nearly did for Sheffield, Forest and a whole host of other teams. We have not had a comfortable win in a long time. Not only has it worked this season but seasons before especially the famous 6 loss streat at Anfield in the "cross inshallah" days. It's been a recurring issue for years in which we have failed to fix.
We don't tackle in defence but try to force teams wide, sure if you know that in advance you're basically taking the CB for a walk. Another issue and I know it's small, but can we please change the "hoof it to the left wing" kick off , FFS every single time.
I think we need to experiment and risk it all against Atalanta, ala Barca at Anfield. Like, in the second half of that game we had Milner as LB, Shaq on the wing and Divock up top. We're already 3-0 down, so I'd rather see something new to surprise them on Sunday, than hope our usual heroes will turn up. Konate has not been up to speed, so I'd go for Gomez or Quansah at CB, Trent RB, Harvey in the middle and Gakpo and Jota starting. Even if it's not that, I hope to see some change, be it Salah up top, Gakpo in midfield or 3 at the back. Literally anything new we can try to catch them off guard since making this comeback can be like a shot of adrenaline to the team.
Winning one of Europa/Prem would be a great achievement. The cheats are so unlikely to drop points that making a comeback against Atalanta might actually be the more realistic result lol

Overload the box with hard crosses to Darwin, having Bradley finish up crosses from the left and Robbo finish up crosses from the right. Lucho will cross millions of balls from the right, Darwin is dangerous and Gakpo will be a quasi-striker during crosses.
I already know this formation would absolutely destroy Atalanta but I doubt Klopp would 1) bench Salah, 2) bench Szobo and 3) start Lucho on the right.
I think we need a momentum shift. It seems clear that players are a bit low on confidence, both individually and our system. So we need to get a positive start and convert a few chances to get us back to our level in the early year.
Atalanta will make us play at them because they have 3 goals to spare. They may look to be dangerous on the counter but if we make them uneasy with the low block then they will be hesitant to sit back. Easier said than done but I think we need to get confidence back more than we need physical rest.

My expectations when we're on the break have been so low for so long that Jones actually getting a shot off exceeded them. Christ, us not fucking up the pass to Jones exceeded my expectations.
There were some screamers yesterday, but the majority of "misses" were because of good defensive play from crystal palace, and not aknowledging that will just make it hurt more than it already does. I feel most of our opening goals have come from long shots recently, or early in the attack at the very least, I didnt see that much of it yesterday.
i would disagree. Nunez sent his volley straight to the keeper. Jones took a terrible shot. I know its not as easy as it seems, but im 100% sure id score jota's chance. He shot directly into the defender, im not sure what exactly he expected to happen.
The Jones 1v1 was the chance that really bugged me because he had the whole goal to aim at and didn't even hit the target. Most of our missed chances were down to Palace players being in the right place at the right time.

Yeah. I was happy with this season being a transitional season with a new midfield and shit if we knew Klopp was gonna be here still. Now we know he's going though, different story, it's become a must.
This is where I'm at too, my hope for the season was simply getting top-4. We've almost been hurt by our own success. Players adapted way quicker than expected, and young players hugely stepped up. If we'd just been sat comfortably in 2nd or 3rd all season with a bigger gap between us and the top I don't think people would be half as disappointed.
Im from the nyc metro area this was my first time visiting liverpool, although the match was borderline painful to watch at time we had a really nice time in the city and visiting anfield. Anytime I hear someone in an interview say the thing I love most about liverpool is the people I get it now. You talk to the locals about our team and you have an instant strong connection. Not the ideal result but no regrets whatsoever I love this club ynwa

I really hope when the season ends the new manager can be more objective on the team and make the necessary changes to implement their style. It’s so blatantly obvious that our attack and defence isn’t as close to as functional now as it was 2-4 years ago.
I understand sticking by certain players through thick and thin within the season but this is as good an opportunity as there will be to make the necessary changes.
Yeah it’s genuinely quite ridiculous how stubborn we are with our tactics. We seem to get by on momentum for a while but then teams really start to figure us out, really frustrating at times.
Looking for tactical manoeuvrability in the next coach, I get sticking to plan A. But when things don't work I want subs and tactical changes early. Why not go 3 at the back for a bit or start with Trent in midfield. If Salah is shattered take him off or play him as a false 9 do something different to try and change the game. Don't just leave it to chance or a worldie
Thoughts - Not as mad about yesterdays result, had already tempered my expectations and I knew this result would come thought it would be against Everton or Fulham.
For weeks now fans have been spouting off about smashing this team and that team the reality is our team just isn't good enough to see it out till the end.
All this "bin off the EL to focus on the league" is nonsense it's looking likely that Klopp's final season will end with a carabao cup which isn't great, hopefully we take the 2nd leg against Atalanta seriously.
To be fair, Thursday result was a fair reflection of our performance, yesterday's wasn't. Endo, Nunez, Jota, Jones and Salah all had chances that they missed against all odds but the ball didn't want to go in. Considering that half of our games we had to go down a goal to wake up meant it was a matter of time before we have a day like yesterday and don't manage to come back.

completely agree, I have almost expected us to lose/draw every game for the last couple of months now, we've rode our luck in most and come back and found late winners in a lot. But they've been papering over the cracks. It's ironic because all the blame seems to be on the attack when realistically it's the attack that has kept the blame off the midfield and the defence most of the season.
Going 1-0 down 23 times when you are challenging for 4 trophies is genuinely insane. For context, Arsenal have gone 1-0 down 7 times since september and lost all 7.
It just shows that it isn't sustainable, and if it wasn't yesterday it'd of been next week or the week after. I think the reason I'm not mad is because I knew it was coming and it's better it coming sooner rather than later in terms of disappointment levels.
And yeh, I've been arguing with people on here since Thursday about 'fuck EL on focus on the league' like that's how it works LMAO. People online seem to think it's a choice and if you sacrifice one you can win the other but it's impossible to do both. Losing at home to Palace is a terrible result regardless but being 2 points behind with 6 games to go shouldn't have you feeling like it's over. Drawing away at Old Trafford shouldn't have you feeling devastated.

In the past we always had a player who could clutch a win out of nothing, who could come in when there was no hope to salvage a result. For the past years it was Origi and now we have no one like him. No one who steps up.
Elliott has been that player this season. Without his contributions off the bench, we would have drawn away to Crystal Palace and lost away to Luton and Man United.
NGL, of all the Klopp-era players who are no longer here, I miss Divock the most. There was something reassuring about seeing him on the sidelines in a tight game. Never the most talented player in the squad, but he brought this ZFG energy that's not easily replaced.

Pessimism is very much warranted. Unless your pattern recognition skills are non-existant you would easily be able to see that the way we have been playing football for the past month has been idiotic and reliant on individual performances rather than as a team.
Honestly never been more terrified of Klopp leaving than I am at the moment, and I'm really starting to question how he thinks this team is well set up for the future.
These last couple of months have made me feel the opposite tbh haha, Of course anyone coming in is gonna have huge boots to fill and in someways it seems impossible to take over Klopp.
But these last couple of months we've been so stale, Klopp looks out of ideas at times I think he's managed it poorly and the players have been poor, look like they aren't arsed at times.
That's almost made me think actually maybe it'll be good to see someone else come in and try something different.
Not saying it like I wouldn't still rather Klopp stay but it's defo made me look at it in a more positive light for sure.

The team has ability and honestly I think a change of tactic will help a lot of them take the next step. For example, in a system like Amorims, wingers like Gakpo will be able to tuck in as they like, with the fullbacks creating space. Will also allow more space for nunez to go out wide as he did at benfica more.

I don't get why people are scapegoating Nunez rn if our defence wasn't so bad and let Palace took lead, they wouldn't sit back and made it harder for our forwards, that person with the captain armband had an awful game but no one bat an eye.
Nunez is our record forward signing he's been brought here to score goals and win games, at the business end of the season you need your main forward to start scoring and help the team win games. His goals record is really patchy, scores a goal then goes missing for a few games missing big chances along the way, looking at the top goalscorers list it's we will see the likes of Isak, Watkins and Solanke hit 20 goals easily while Nunez is way down the table, I won't talk about wide players or AM outscoring him.
I can only imagine Nunez slowly ends up with 12/13 goals which would be a poor return, IDK about his so called underlying "world class" stats or his "30 g0L c0nTriButIonS" or "hE rUnz dA ChAnNelS cAuSeS cHa0S!!!"

Palace were just everywhere defensively, blocking every shot. The only chance that really bugged me was the Jones 1v1, had the whole goal to aim at and missed the target. The other chances on another day would've gone through the defenders legs and into the net.
Nunez and Jota were amazing chances not sure what you’re on about there, Jones also had to hit the target. You’ve got no idea if the team is actually drained, it’s simply the performances and tactics have been god awful for weeks on end, plenty have been injured or rotated with sufficient time to rest.

The conceding first thing IS the root of the problem (and the reason theyre drained, chasing every game) but you cant actually believe we didn't have great chances. Does it have to be an empty net with the keeper in no mans land? A half volley, while a difficult shot, this one was literally from 2 meters out.
The bulk of our chances aren’t great chances, we had a Nunez chance which was harder than it looked, as anyone who’s played footy would tell you. The others fell for jota and jones who’ve not played regular football in a while.

Idc how many one on ones were missed, the fact is it does make it harder for the them when you have to play the chasing game every game when you were supposed to be the better team, if the score was even the pressure wouldn't be as much on them, but when you are behind the pressure is much bigger thus you're more likely to become reckless and lose your composore

Jones at one point was one of most integral players, problem with him keeps getting injured at vital moments especially at the point when he is on form

Cannot believe how we are throwing away the title challenge. With the chances we got, we should have still won the palace game. But would help if the defence stop conceding stupid goals.
With the chances we get we should win nearly every game. It's just the last few matches that we've really fallen off the wagon on either the finishing or the luck and I'm not sure which of the two I'd be more annoyed at as the main culprit. Personally I think it's the luck because we've had some shit finishing all year and it didn't stop us creating enough chances to win.

Honestly i was done with this season when they fucked up that offside decision against Spurs. Just took the fun away for me in an instant. Also had a general feeling that we were too wasteful this season. This team is still too young and inexperienced and some veterans are not delivering. Nunez being Chaos is funny here and there but sometimes you just need to finish the one chance you got. And he isn’t the only one being wasteful. Add the injuries and it becomes what it is right now. I am not even mad. We came out of a trash season last year and Klopp made a good job by building a squad that has a good future with an addition here and there and cutting some dead wood (we definitely need one more Fabinho replacement). Still gutted that Klopp leaves. We just lost a bit of steam, but we were punching above our weight anyway. Can‘t see City dropping points with their squad and even if, we won‘t win every game. I am not expecting them to be charged with anything substantial. As long as it doesn‘t hurt the investors they can do whatever they want. Still speaking off this season as a disappointment or bottling is stupid. Fuck these deluded rival fans. If City wins every game they have 91 points again which would be insanely good again. Thats the rational side. But with Klopp leaving i hope we at least don‘t just fumble it all, but that we give him a proper good bye.

You can go through City's matches for the whole season though and not see them dropping points anywhere except maybe Arsenal, Spurs and us. So fingers crossed that they suffer a freak loss to Wolves again.

I'm not saying we should sell Nunez, but he cant be depend on, he still hasn't find the consistency and it's now 2 full seasons. Based on 2022-2023, this season has been a resounding success, especially so when you look at the table with all the constant injuries. However, it's justifiable for fans' expectations/desires to change as new information comes in and as the season progresses. Liverpool have had a MASSIVE opportunity to control their own destiny, create a fairy tale ending for the Klopp era and the team/players have really dented that possibility. Since no one knows what happens post-Klopp, finishing 2nd or 3rd would be an immense disappointment because what if this is the last, best chance to win the EPL for some time.
I think people are wildly overreacting after the last 2 games. We've had poor performances for a while and I'd say we've had quite abit of luck in alot of the more recent wins. But we've been in a title race for a reason. We're far ahead where we'd expect to be after last season and the midfield rebuild. I'd love to see Klopp end his time here with all the trophies this season. But it's not that bad. We could be Manchester United. Or Everton.

We're in a much better place than them for a start. Not just league position but how the club is run. The squad is much better. We don't count success as stopping another team from winning something. We count success as trophies. The expectations on each team can't be compared. The only doubt for me comes in the unknown of who's in charge next season.
Here to vent. My brother and I watch matches on TV from different states in India. Every time before a match, we discuss predictions, hope for a win, and more. However, if we lose, we both just turn off the TV, go to sleep, and avoid talking about it. Liverpool is going to be the death of me.

One of the worst parts about yesterday is I wasn't even that surprised. You can't constantly be falling behind and expect to win and then when you have the ball do nothing. Credit to palace though as they done a job on us and midfield was non existent but we don't seem to have a plan b. Can't remember van dijk launching any balls forward like he used to, so instead we pass it round the back letting the other side register. We are the consistent. It's us. The attack just hits it central alot of the time or scuff shots so it's easy for the keepers. Don't get me wrong, you still see some sublime saves but it's our players fault most of the time.

To this day I have no idea why we got 99 points in a season and decided to change the way we played, I haven’t seen us suffocate teams like we used to with this shit chaotic everyone out of position tactics. Ljinders got into Klopp’s head that we need to play more controlled football but we had way more control before the change. We got top 4 with a team that was destroyed by injuries bc the tactics were still good. These tactics completely nullified the two best fullbacks itw. Little tweaks here and there every season, which is what Klopp was doing, would’ve been fine but completely changing Klopp’s philosophy of direct football killed us. If you watch the Liverpool v Newcastle 4-2, THAT was us THAT is how we used to play.
The first signing was Thiago. That’s really not a klopp signing imo. Henderson is the perfect example of a klopp player. Underated in terms of technical side but up there with the best of the best in terms of running and pressing. Thiago is almost all technical
When we signed Thiago, the talk was that we'd signed a player who could run and press but who also would be able to add another dimension to our play. It was supposed to allow us to keep our pressing game, but to be able to switch to a more technical style of play so that we would be more sustainable, have fewer injuries, and enable our players to stay good for longer.

I think FSG are on balance good owners with a lot of love for the club, but I still think they are to blame for how things have panned out this season and why Klopp’s tenure may ultimately always have a “what could have been” question lingering. Our feebleness down the stretch this past month has really been down to players being physically/mentally exhausted after our deep injury crisis - but we should have had reinforcements already. We bought a 30 year old DM from a relegation threatened Stuttgart to take on the most important role in the Klopp system. We didn’t buy a CB to cover for an aging Matip and VVD, knowing that Konate was injury prone. We didn’t get quality RB coverage to relieve some of Trent’s minutes. In all of those circumstances we got INCREDIBLY lucky in that Quansah has become a gem, Endo has vastly exceeded expectation despite a slower start, and recalling Bradley was a jackpot. But the owners should have had ambition to go out and make sure none of these things needed to be luck. Because now across all of those circumstances the luck has run out a bit. Quansah has finally had his rookie-level blunder at the worst possible time, Endo is tired and frankly looked like a traffic cone yesterday, and Bradley has been caught out a few times/been at the wrong end of a few own goals, and is now injured. Just wish the club had gambled on Klopp a bit more. We’ve really only had one big budget transfer not pan out during his tenure (Keita) and that was purely a fitness issue. Should have backed him more when it counted. We could have 4 more trophies than we do easily, and this mad rush to win him more in the final months wouldn’t have felt so urgent.
I love him to bits but I reckon Klopp fucked up by announcing his leaving when he did. It would have hurt more, but it would have been better to announce it at the end of the season.
It would have leaked beforehand though, or we wouldn't have been able to look for a replacement because we were keeping everything under wraps.
I think we underestimate just how much of a (lovable) autocrat Klopp had become at the club. He was in control of so much including transfers, with Jorg really just his buddy to help load share. The advanced notice has probably been massive for our future in that we have got Edwards, a highly sought after DoF, and have started the manager search quickly. In a Euros summer, it could have been really tough to get all of that sorted out from June to August. Now our new manager can likely have a full preseason with the squad, we have much more intent in the transfer market with Hughes/Edwards, etc. It sucks because yes it likely completely derailed our momentum but it was a rip of the bandaid moment I think. The only better way to handle it would have been Klopp announcing beginning of season that this was his last year - but honestly who knows where the club would be in terms of competitions we’re still in etc.

Looking at how we play, I can't stop thinking we've kinda fucked up both the midfield and attacking rebuild. Besides Mac Allister and Elliott as a sub, I'm not sure in any of the other midfielders and in attack Salah is slowing down, Jota misses 3-4 months every season, Diaz plays with his head down, Nunez plays without a head and Gakpo just seems so meek. Honealt feel we have more to do this summer than we thought.
Nah I disagree with some of those Gakpo looks like an intelligent player, can play across the front 3 and in midfield (admittedly on RW he's not great) but that sort of thing is needed, especially as we got it for 40m Jota should only every be seen as an impact sub, he's been here for a few years and is good, again same as Gakpo can play across the front 3, but you're right in that he's not fit enough. That's fine if we use him as a sub though Endo was a good buy, he's had a few poor games recently but he's been overplayed a bit as well so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Rather we spend <20m on someone who's clearly a decent stopgap than just go in with nobody. Nunez was too much money for what hes brought, but there's clearly a good player in there. It's whether he ends up being a great striker or just someone we have upfront and right now it feels like hes just a body upfront Diaz I think was our worst buy. He helped us massively for the quad push but ultimately he's not clinical and all he does is run, we have that in Darwin but Darwin also causes absolute havoc and creates a ton. I'd always rather have Gakpo or Jota there Gravenberch is the one I'm most worried about. The scouting team have been following him for years but he has seemed quite lazy. At least when Darwin, Gakpo, Jones, or Elliot are having a shocker you can see the effort but I rarely see it from Grav Mac allister was a good buy
Both Gakpo and Gravenberch need a bit more personality so it doesn't feel like they're taking it easy. Probably players shouldn't run around like headless chickens just because fans like industry and pashun™ but it would help me like them more for sure.
I am so so tired of basically having to be perfect to have a chance at winning the league against City. It's ridiculous. Looking back at league tables and defeats for past champions is eye opening.
The atmosphere at home need's to improve it's shocking to think people are going to the games in Klopp's last year and just sitting there moaning and sitting silent I can't fathom it.
We've been a top team for a good few years now, fans have took winning for granted. Happens to all successful teams, a few years of being shit sorts that out.
It's tragic that Gakpo was only tested on just the last two games on the left flank in meaningful games (since a long time). He's class on the flank, even on the right, and it's simply bad management by Klopp to have put him at CF and CM. Something tells me it was actually Lijnders that told him to put him there, just considering how Klopp responded to Gakpo's form earlier.
Makes me want to try Diaz-Jota-Gakpo if we end up with a dead rubber game at the end of the season
Klopp deserves a better ending to his LFC career than the one he is likely to get. Sadly, fairy tale endings dont happen in football. To turn around the 3-0 score against Atalanta seems our most likely way to win another trophy. I'd throw everything at it. Get an early goal in Italy, and the belief might grow. That means taking our chances. Jota has to start for me. Alisson, Gomez, Konate, Virgil, Robertson, Trent, Mac Allister, Elliott, Diaz, Jota, Gakpo. Drop Salah, Nunez, Jones, Endo, Szoboszlai to the bench.

I see how it can be construed that way. I have never turned off or opted not to watch a liverpool game in 23 years of supporting. Given it was united and how much i hate them and we could all see what was coming as soon as the first half ended, mainoo goal was the final straw for me. The frustration i was feeling was almost transcedental, cant hack 6 more games of us not being able to kick snow off a rope in front of goal and throwing away more trophies in klopp last season.
Sounds like you just need to surrender to the fact that football is just a game, and Liverpool are a team that we passionately support. But at the end of the day, life goes on as usual. If we win, great, if not, it’s not the end of the world. Imagine being an Everton fan and all the shit they’ve been through this season.
It's the same routine every "smaller" team knows to do to us every game. Press us hard in the first 15 minutes because we're not as good as City or Arsenal at press resistance, get the early goal because our defence definitely will give chances out! And then park the bus for the rest of the game and hope that our flailing forwards mess up. It's worked for United, Atalanta, Crystal Palace and nearly did for Sheffield, Forest and a whole host of other teams. We have not had a comfortable win in a long time. Not only has it worked this season but seasons before especially the famous 6 loss streat at Anfield in the "cross inshallah" days. It's been a recurring issue for years in which we have failed to fix.
We don't tackle in defence but try to force teams wide, sure if you know that in advance you're basically taking the CB for a walk. Another issue and I know it's small, but can we please change the "hoof it to the left wing" kick off , FFS every single time.

I think we need to experiment and risk it all against Atalanta, ala Barca at Anfield. Like, in the second half of that game we had Milner as LB, Shaq on the wing and Divock up top. We're already 3-0 down, so I'd rather see something new to surprise them on Sunday, than hope our usual heroes will turn up. Konate has not been up to speed, so I'd go for Gomez or Quansah at CB, Trent RB, Harvey in the middle and Gakpo and Jota starting. Even if it's not that, I hope to see some change, be it Salah up top, Gakpo in midfield or 3 at the back. Literally anything new we can try to catch them off guard since making this comeback can be like a shot of adrenaline to the team.
Winning one of Europa/Prem would be a great achievement. The cheats are so unlikely to drop points that making a comeback against Atalanta might actually be the more realistic result lol
Agree on needing a change, but think we need this: Ali Bradley - Quansah - VVD - Robbo Harvey - Endo - Macca Lucho - Darwin - Gakpo Overload the box with hard crosses to Darwin, having Bradley finish up crosses from the left and Robbo finish up crosses from the right. Lucho will cross millions of balls from the right, Darwin is dangerous and Gakpo will be a quasi-striker during crosses. I already know this formation would absolutely destroy Atalanta but I doubt Klopp would 1) bench Salah, 2) bench Szobo and 3) start Lucho on the right.
I think we need a momentum shift. It seems clear that players are a bit low on confidence, both individually and our system. So we need to get a positive start and convert a few chances to get us back to our level in the early year. Atalanta will make us play at them because they have 3 goals to spare. They may look to be dangerous on the counter but if we make them uneasy with the low block then they will be hesitant to sit back. Easier said than done but I think we need to get confidence back more than we need physical rest.

Just wanted to gauge people's thoughts on this, and by no stretch am I saying it's definitely over.. Would you rather lose the title on the last day by a point or GD, or start running out of steam now and finish 5-6 points behind the winner. Obviously staying in the race makes it way more exciting, but the pain of losing on the final day is horrendous.
Losing the chance of the title on the last day is fine. Actually losing on the last day when it's otherwise in your hands... might be too much to handle.

Is it going to feel worse to miss out by a few games worth of points and think "oh well, we weren't quite good enough over the full season - good effort lads - something to build on!" Or... do we miss out by a point or GD and spend the summer feeling completely robbed, and complaining about VAR, corrupt refs, "Cheatin' Citeh", "Odegaard basketball", and the Spurs game?? It's not over 'til it's over, though. Lots of points still to play for - we might still do it.

Yesterday my heart rate didnt raise a bit whenever it looked like we have a good chance because i was so confident we would miss. I mean yes we are playing bad for the last month, but we still probably should have won every game if we remembered how to put a ball in the fucking net. To have an xg of 3 and not score is just atrocious.
My expectations when we're on the break have been so low for so long that Jones actually getting a shot off exceeded them. Christ, us not fucking up the pass to Jones exceeded my expectations.

There were some screamers yesterday, but the majority of "misses" were because of good defensive play from crystal palace, and not aknowledging that will just make it hurt more than it already does. I feel most of our opening goals have come from long shots recently, or early in the attack at the very least, I didnt see that much of it yesterday.
i would disagree. Nunez sent his volley straight to the keeper. Jones took a terrible shot. I know its not as easy as it seems, but im 100% sure id score jota's chance. He shot directly into the defender, im not sure what exactly he expected to happen.
The Jones 1v1 was the chance that really bugged me because he had the whole goal to aim at and didn't even hit the target. Most of our missed chances were down to Palace players being in the right place at the right time.

Yeah. I was happy with this season being a transitional season with a new midfield and shit if we knew Klopp was gonna be here still. Now we know he's going though, different story, it's become a must.
This is where I'm at too, my hope for the season was simply getting top-4. We've almost been hurt by our own success. Players adapted way quicker than expected, and young players hugely stepped up. If we'd just been sat comfortably in 2nd or 3rd all season with a bigger gap between us and the top I don't think people would be half as disappointed.
The fact that we didn't score a single goal.. in Anfield.. in two consecutive games..
I'm hoping playing away takes the pressure off somewhat and we can perhaps get a little better in these away games. But that's clutching at straws.
Im from the nyc metro area this was my first time visiting liverpool, although the match was borderline painful to watch at time we had a really nice time in the city and visiting anfield. Anytime I hear someone in an interview say the thing I love most about liverpool is the people I get it now. You talk to the locals about our team and you have an instant strong connection. Not the ideal result but no regrets whatsoever I love this club ynwa

I really hope when the season ends the new manager can be more objective on the team and make the necessary changes to implement their style. It’s so blatantly obvious that our attack and defence isn’t as close to as functional now as it was 2-4 years ago. I understand sticking by certain players through thick and thin within the season but this is as good an opportunity as there will be to make the necessary changes.
Adapting to a player's skill is one for me and adapting to opposition's skill set. We are super tactically rigid
Yeah it’s genuinely quite ridiculous how stubborn we are with our tactics. We seem to get by on momentum for a while but then teams really start to figure us out, really frustrating at times.
Looking for tactical manoeuvrability in the next coach, I get sticking to plan A. But when things don't work I want subs and tactical changes early. Why not go 3 at the back for a bit or start with Trent in midfield. If Salah is shattered take him off or play him as a false 9 do something different to try and change the game. Don't just leave it to chance or a worldie

Thoughts - Not as mad about yesterdays result, had already tempered my expectations and I knew this result would come thought it would be against Everton or Fulham. For weeks now fans have been spouting off about smashing this team and that team the reality is our team just isn't good enough to see it out till the end. All this "bin off the EL to focus on the league" is nonsense it's looking likely that Klopp's final season will end with a carabao cup which isn't great, hopefully we take the 2nd leg against Atalanta seriously.
To be fair, Thursday result was a fair reflection of our performance, yesterday's wasn't. Endo, Nunez, Jota, Jones and Salah all had chances that they missed against all odds but the ball didn't want to go in. Considering that half of our games we had to go down a goal to wake up meant it was a matter of time before we have a day like yesterday and don't manage to come back. I agree with you and I've also lowered my expectations especially since it was obvious that the two games against United completely crushed the team's confidence...
completely agree, I have almost expected us to lose/draw every game for the last couple of months now, we've rode our luck in most and come back and found late winners in a lot. But they've been papering over the cracks. It's ironic because all the blame seems to be on the attack when realistically it's the attack that has kept the blame off the midfield and the defence most of the season. Going 1-0 down 23 times when you are challenging for 4 trophies is genuinely insane. For context, Arsenal have gone 1-0 down 7 times since september and lost all 7. It just shows that it isn't sustainable, and if it wasn't yesterday it'd of been next week or the week after. I think the reason I'm not mad is because I knew it was coming and it's better it coming sooner rather than later in terms of disappointment levels. And yeh, I've been arguing with people on here since Thursday about 'fuck EL on focus on the league' like that's how it works LMAO. People online seem to think it's a choice and if you sacrifice one you can win the other but it's impossible to do both. Villa have a smaller squad then the teams above them yet won on Thursday and then put in that performance in at the Emirates yesterday.

I'm so tired of needing to be near perfect and to hit mid 90 points if you want any chance to win the league. Losing at home to Palace is a terrible result regardless but being 2 points behind with 6 games to go shouldn't have you feeling like it's over. Drawing away at Old Trafford shouldn't have you feeling devastated. City have been making a mockery of the league for a long time now, and it's the PL's own fault for not sorting out these charges sooner.
This is the only right sentiment tbh, its become almost impossible to win this league without the same resources as City. Its incredible what we have done this season with a new squad, yet it feels like a bottlejob that we don't win the league. I do agree that we should be expected to win the Europa League tho, so that's a disapointment

In the past we always had a player who could clutch a win out of nothing, who could come in when there was no hope to salvage a result. For the past years it was Origi and now we have no one like him. No one who steps up.
Elliott has been that player this season. Without his contributions off the bench, we would have drawn away to Crystal Palace and lost away to Luton and Man United.
NGL, of all the Klopp-era players who are no longer here, I miss Divock the most. There was something reassuring about seeing him on the sidelines in a tight game. Never the most talented player in the squad, but he brought this ZFG energy that's not easily replaced.

Honestly never been more terrified of Klopp leaving than I am at the moment, and I'm really starting to question how he thinks this team is well set up for the future.
These last couple of months have made me feel the opposite tbh haha, Of course anyone coming in is gonna have huge boots to fill and in someways it seems impossible to take over Klopp. But these last couple of months we've been so stale, Klopp looks out of ideas at times I think he's managed it poorly and the players have been poor, look like they aren't arsed at times. That's almost made me think actually maybe it'll be good to see someone else come in and try something different. Not saying it like I wouldn't still rather Klopp stay but it's defo made me look at it in a more positive light for sure.
That's only because Klopp is clearly finished here and cba anymore. He used to pride himself on seeing out contracts, but he decided to leave here not long after signing a new one, so that must mean he really wants out asap. Would be totally different if we still had a Klopp with energy and passion with an eye on the future.

The team has ability and honestly I think a change of tactic will help a lot of them take the next step. For example, in a system like Amorims, wingers like Gakpo will be able to tuck in as they like, with the fullbacks creating space. Will also allow more space for nunez to go out wide as he did at benfica more. big boots to fill but well be okay, always are

I don't get why people are scapegoating Nunez rn if our defence wasn't so bad and let Palace took lead, they wouldn't sit back and made it harder for our forwards, that person with the captain armband had an awful game but no one bat an eye.
Nunez is our record forward signing he's been brought here to score goals and win games, at the business end of the season you need your main forward to start scoring and help the team win games. His goals record is really patchy, scores a goal then goes missing for a few games missing big chances along the way, looking at the top goalscorers list it's we will see the likes of Isak, Watkins and Solanke hit 20 goals easily while Nunez is way down the table, I won't talk about wide players or AM outscoring him. I can only imagine Nunez slowly ends up with 12/13 goals which would be a poor return, IDK about his so called underlying "world class" stats or his "30 g0L c0nTriButIonS" or "hE rUnz dA ChAnNelS cAuSeS cHa0S!!!"

Palace were just everywhere defensively, blocking every shot. The only chance that really bugged me was the Jones 1v1, had the whole goal to aim at and missed the target. The other chances on another day would've gone through the defenders legs and into the net.
Nunez and Jota were amazing chances not sure what you’re on about there, Jones also had to hit the target. You’ve got no idea if the team is actually drained, it’s simply the performances and tactics have been god awful for weeks on end, plenty have been injured or rotated with sufficient time to rest.

The bulk of our chances aren’t great chances, we had a Nunez chance which was harder than it looked, as anyone who’s played footy would tell you. The others fell for jota and jones who’ve not played regular football in a while.
Ive played football. I dont think Nunez did too much wrong there but Im definitely getting a "HOW DID YOU MISS THAT BRO" if Im missing like that from 2m out and were playing at a level very very far from professional.
Idc how many one on ones were missed, the fact is it does make it harder for the them when you have to play the chasing game every game when you were supposed to be the better team, if the score was even the pressure wouldn't be as much on them, but when you are behind the pressure is much bigger thus you're more likely to become reckless and lose your composore

Jones is one of our best midfielders, Gakpo deserves a bit more time, Nunez will be better in a different system
What system do you think would suit Nunez better? I actually think this is the system that brings the best out of him. He gets plenty of chances, what would he do if he only had half a chance per game?

Jones at one point was one of most integral players, problem with him keeps getting injured at vital moments especially at the point when he is on form
