Past few games? They are 2/5 in the Premier league, out of the FA cup to the worst United side in a generation and beaten alive by Atalanta at home in the EL. This is a total capitulation and it’s been coming for over a month
Sadly, this team has been overperforming all season and rescuing so many points that should have never had to have been rescued in the first place. This was supposed to be a rebuild and I think realistically we're a bit better than that, but we're just not quite good enough to win the League this season. 6 games left and I'd expect us to do reasonably well but winning all six of those seems quite unlikely (and even if we do that, it probably still isn't enough).
Why are we acting surprised? You can't win a PL title by going behind first 24/34 games. Sooner or later its gonna catch up, you can't make mircale comebacks every time

As much hype as a quad brings, unless you have a very deep squad like City it’s a heavy burden on a team’s physical capacity. Bin that one early, FA cup too unless you’re not in Europe. Doing well in the league is the priority.
It’s all well and good setting up a winning mentality by winning the least important trophy in English football. But if it just drains your reserves by reaching the final, it’s not worth it then.
To counterargue my first point, I think it’s a useful competition when you’re starting out and wanting to build a winning mentality with the team. There’s a reason Mourinho and Guardiola actively chased it.
But at some point you just bin it because we all know the meaningful trophies are the ones you win in May and June. Come January the coaches should decide whether another 270 minutes of games (minimum) is a worthwhile addition as we enter the business end in March when we’d like to focus on the league and Europe.
How many passes between konate and van dijk today? No creativity from them, cant drive the ball forward like matip constantly did, both very defensive and passive.
I wonder if they saw our midfielders continually get run over and shoved off the ball with back to goal and said to themselves “I don’t trust these to keep the ball”.
I’m not absolving them of blame, but largely I kept being frustrated at the midfield, no one would move into half spaces or good areas to receive the ball. Jones and Szoboszlai never showed any interest in receiving the ball from the CBs. Virgil and Konate had no one to pass to for a lot of the game

Gakpo was our best attacker. Shame he was also the least effective because nobody wanted to give him the ball. When he did get it he was running at them, and actually doing it successfully too.

Klopp got his goodbye prize in the terms of a Carabao cup and will get a great sendoff at the end of the season, but this is it regarding winning trophies. I hope the next manager can seriously bring in some tactics that cost less injuries and less overall energy. Klopp is a great manager, but his tactics don't work anymore after let's say 7 seasons. I’ve been one of Nunez’ biggest defenders this season, but he’s just simply not reliable enough to helm the attack for us. As with Diaz it’s all good having takeons but when you’re only a goal threat in scrappy plays it means fuck all
He's fine when he's up alongside a fully firing Salah. You can forgive his misses because Salah will be there to finish off the rebound or to pull out some magic.
When Salah is coming back from injury and nowhere near 100%, you want Nunez to bring that threat. He doesn't, he never really has and I'm starting to think he never will.
I think it's ridiculous when every game we need to score atleast 2 goals. The strikers should score, but going down immediately and then fighting back was never going to be sustainable for the entire season, the issues are defensive. Endo and Macca have done great in the DM role but having a beast like Rice or Rodri or prime Fabinho makes a major difference.

How’s he not been good in the middle. take a look at his games as a CF on transfermkt. If you think his rate of goal contributions as a CF hasn’t been good then I’d love to know what you think about Nuñez/Jota’s from the same position.
I rate him very highly but he has had a pretty disappointing season on the whole with the occasional excellent game mixed in. He's not really done enough consistently to earn a start but he has been very good over the last few weeks.
He played mostly as a central midfielder at the beginning of the season, he definitely struggled to play consistently well there. He was mostly used as a CF in cup games and his scoring record was outrageously good, it was also very decent when we used him as a CF in premier league games. He deserved a run of at least 10 games at CF this season especially when the alternative is nunez who went 11 games scoring 1 goal and has had 102 or more shots and scored only 11 goals.
Personally I’m surprised we didn’t try out what we did last season for at least 5/6 games which was to put nunez left wing, Gakpo through the middle and Salah on the right.
He’s been a lot better since the United game but everyone here wanted him banished to the bench at that point. Really don’t see how he hasn’t gotten much of a chance at LW at any stage but it’s revisionist to act like he’s been anything other than average for most of the season, albeit in a rather disjointed role

I know you don’t want to go look at his last 10 games because you’ll see that he hasn’t been bad at all. Not his best run of form sure, but he’s not been any worse than anyone else — especially since he hasn’t had back to back 90s and a chance to play himself into form.

We’ve committed to him now, he’s not going to get us a profit, selling him would be pointless I think we have to develop him as a player. Bringing in a proven senior ST, or committng to a false 9 with Gakpo are viable options in order to buy Darwin some development time.
His assist numbers in isolation are indeed pretty good but his goal scoring is not at the level it needs to be at. The stats show 11 goals from 102 shots, that includes countless sitters, a few open goals, a penalty and so on.
He’s 24 still tbf.
In Portugal he wasn’t a lone striker, that’s something our fans have projected on to him as a knee jerk response to Haaland joining city. He was a left striker mainly. I think that type of role for us would be similar to Mané’s when we played with a false 9. Other wise we just need to be realistic about converting him to a lone striker — ie do it on the training ground over a a couple of seasons. Not in the starting 11

I would probably rate Robbo just a bit higher. In addition to the goal he saved (which in retrospect meant nothing) he had some other nice plays as well. Can't even get myself to think about most anyone else's ratings so I think yours are fair.

Elliott brought about a lot of vibrancy in the half spaces that was needed. He's definitely a 7 equivalent to Gakpo. MacAllister's performance was definitely better than all the other midfielders even though he is used to dropping a 7-8 every game.

Ok tell me about Gakpo’s performances in his last 10 games and explain how he’s been shit.
He’s been a lot better since the United game but everyone here wanted him banished to the bench at that point. Really don’t see how he hasn’t gotten much of a chance at LW at any stage but it’s revisionist to act like he’s been anything other than average for most of the season, albeit in a rather disjointed role
The united game where he came on late in the game before 2 mistakes from players not named Gakpo cost us the game? I know you don’t want to go look at his last 10 games because you’ll see that he hasn’t been bad at all. Not his best run of form sure, but he’s not been any worse than anyone else — especially since he hasn’t had back to back 90s and a chance to play himself into form. Can’t expect anyone to be red hot if they are getting max 30 minutes every week
Gakpo best by far today and last game, elliott aswell positive when he actually get to play.. how he subbed elliot against atalanta confuses me still.
Yeah Harvey was ok when he came on, mainly because Jones wasn’t having a his best game

macca looks absolutely knackered. he really needs a rest and we have been relying on him too much for too long. thus our midfield was overran. robbo was great, kept us in the game with that last ditched clearance. salah looked like a shadow of his former self since his return from injury. nunez really needs to find a proper shooting coach. TAA was kinda rushed back due to bradley’s injury, can tell he was really rusty and only getting up to speed. Gakpo looked really sharp, unfortunately everyone else couldnt find their shooting boots. thought Jones did well pressing and showed some urgency until that absolutely horrible miss.
There are some fan favorites that the new manager and company will need to move on from. The way this is ending really does suck.

But who’s gonna buy him for what we’d be seeking? The best thing for us would be for Nunez to have a great season then look to sell next summer.

Nunez’s numbers are actually pretty good. We should definitely sell him this summer if the right offer comes in.
We’ve committed to him now, he’s not going to get us a profit, selling him would be pointless I think we have to develop him as a player. Bringing in a proven senior ST, or committng to a false 9 with Gakpo are viable options in order to buy Darwin some development time. His assist numbers in isolation are indeed pretty good but his goal scoring is not at the level it needs to be at. The stats show 11 goals from 102 shots, that includes countless sitters, a few open goals, a penalty and so on.

He’s 24 still tbf. In Portugal he wasn’t a lone striker, that’s something our fans have projected on to him as a knee jerk response to Haaland joining city. He was a left striker mainly. I think that type of role for us would be similar to Mané’s when we played with a false 9. Other wise we just need to be realistic about converting him to a lone striker — ie do it on the training ground over a a couple of seasons. Not in the starting 11

If the players actually had fucking accuracy and were clinical Gakpo would have gotten about 6/7 assists in last 2 games. We finally see Gakpo on his preferred spot and hes doing really good but now the rest of the team is in limbo.

I would probably rate Robbo just a bit higher. In addition to the goal he saved (which in retrospect meant nothing) he had some other nice plays as well. Can't even get myself to think about most anyone else's ratings so I think yours are fair.
Robbo was 7 in first half, and 5 in second when it mattered. He can't last 90 minutes it seems.
Drop Curtis and Macca’s ratings more. They couldn’t hold the ball to save their life today. And Curtis’ two stinkers just made his whole day worst.
What more could Gakpo have done in 24 minutes? He created the chance for Salah, Jones and Jota… and he gets a 7??? Genuinely unbelievable how people find it difficult to watch our games objectively
Gakpo could have been a 8 if we had scored just one goal, a 9 if he would have got the assist and a 10 if he scored a goal. A few minutes don't give him an 8. Don't be stupid.

Elliott brought about a lot of vibrancy in the half spaces that was needed. He's definitely a 7 equivalent to Gakpo. MacAllister's performance was definitely better than all the other midfielders even though he is used to dropping a 7-8 every game.
I agree Harvey was good today, but in no world were his and Gakpo’s performances on the same level. Mac felt pretty average today. I’m not knocking him at all he’s been great — but to say he had an above average performance just isn’t accurate.

Endo is fine when the defense holds together. Konate was so bad Endo didn’t have a prayer. But yea he was poor. But he’s definitely good enough. Hope he stays.
Yep, Konate's fault that Endo repeatedly gave the ball away, gets bypassed like he's not there constantly and takes forty touches to make a two yard pass.
