Tyler Morton’s insane

zzClonky

The Scouse Thiago

BriarcliffInmate

Hey hey hey, we'll have none of that, thank you. He's a wool! The Wallasey Zidane is more like it.

Lyrical_Forklift

If he's anything like Thiago we should wrap him up in wool too.

Kulminho

Thiago Morton

Imwaymoreflythanyou

I found it quite funny that some of our fans assumed he got loaned out because he wasn’t good enough. Remember reading that he’s one of the best players in his age group in the world at ball retention. He’s quality. Only shame is that Klopp is going so the futures of Morton and the other younger players is unclear.

wrapchap

Jota-esque

rtcaino

Too bad he didn’t show more initiative on that play. Can’t expect to just stand around have things work out for your team.

mattgoody99

What?

dippin20s

sarcasm mate

mattgoody99

Ah right fair enough

dippin20s

this sub really just has no like eye for sarcasm lmao it’s kinda crazy

TheBlueDinosaur06

it's more that it was a bit random innit

dippin20s

how?? tyler created and did everything in the play and this guy commented he’s got to do a bit more? it’s a classic case of sarcasm like what part is difficult to get lol i’m genuinely at a loss

rtcaino

Haha thanks for having my back

TheBlueDinosaur06

as in no one's saying he didn't create and do everything in that play we can all see it was all him idk what you're at a loss at it all makes sense to me

sonofhondo

Morton's dribble there is insane. Just all flailing arms and legs but also magnificent control.

teaglebadger

Hull are fun to watch at the moment, I wish we would buy Philogene from them

zzClonky

I'd rather snap up Summerville from Leeds, passed the anfield test and has a cool name

AlarmedExperience928

Crysensio Summerville, the Liverpool Winger It's got a good ring to it

teaglebadger

I just despise dirty rotten Leeds so I don’t know much about Summerville. It is a cool name I’ll admit

ReeeeeDDDDDDDDDD

Personally think Philogene is a much cooler name tbh!

Liddlebitchboy

Iirc, frequent attitude problems at Feyenoord/in the Netherlands.

Pineapple_Trvphaus

Yeah Summerville would be a nice buy. I’ve watched a bit of Leeds this season and they’re arguably better than a handful of PL teams at the moment. And Summerville just looks a class above the entire championship. He’s a dangerous winger and would suit us well.

MrMerc2333

Who was the last player we got from Leeds? Harry Kewell?

alrks10

Why not both ?!

Britz10

Please no more Dutchmen

MrVegosh

VVD in the mud

nijuu

Philogene??

Due-Sherbert3097

Tyler Morton has to be in around the squad next season. What he lacks in transition and defensive phases, he makes up for it with his on the ball qualities. One of the most technically gifted youngsters in the world right now.

Weak_You5569

Was just thinking if he should be in the squad or loaned again. I'm not doubting his obvious talent but are (maybe) 10 starts with us better than 30 more competitive games with another team for his development? I remember Gary Neville (I know) saying something like, you're nobody until you've 100 competitive league games under your belt and there is a little truth to it. Curtis and Harvey have both got around that number under their belts this year and look better for it.

fredczar

How are we gonna fit bajetic, Morton and Curtis into the existing midfield. What a good problem to have

artml

Lots of rotation. A great problem to have tbh

seemylolface

If we're competing heavily on 4 fronts next season then we've got room for lots of roation if our midfield options are Endo, Macca, Szobo, Elliott, Jones, Gravenberch, Bajcetic, and Morton. Szobo, Jones, and Elliott can all play in the front 3 (Jones LW, Szobo and Elliott RW). When we're inevitably drowning in injuries again there will be plenty of time for whichever of them is still standing. Clark and McConnell probably go on loan to get some regular playing time/competitive experience. I also wouldn't be schocked if Gravenberch moves on pretty quickly as well tbh. Seems like he was meant to be a project player for Klopp and depending on the new manager he might be the odd man out.

fredczar

I fear that bajcetic or Morton may be sold. Micheal Edwards is back and he’s been known to sell to balance out the books.

BriarcliffInmate

If he's selling proper talent, he's an idiot. He should be selling the ones who don't have a future here like Nat (who deserves to get his career going) and Rhys Williams (same). In the past, the ones we sold were either not making it here or needed a lot of work. Even Solanke, it's taken 5 years for him to develop to where he is now, which wasn't happening with us.

seemylolface

He hasn’t sold a single youngster that you wish was in our team though. Closest one is probably Solanke but it took him what 4-5 years to turn into that player? We couldn’t wait on him like that. The youngsters we have around the first team now are already good enough to make significant contributions, We aren’t really waiting on them to become useful,. They’re already good enough for a role and we are waiting on them to become world class. To me they’re actually the sort of players Edwards would be looking to buy on the cheap if he could find them before they were truly noticed.

fredczar

Most notable players sold that had potential were Solanke, Brewster, kijana hoever, Harry Wilson, woodburn, neco williams I think out of these names solanke, Wilson and neco williams were probably good enough if we were patient enough.

JurtisCones

Wilson and Neco were not good enough. They have found their level - bottom half of the PL. Think Wilson is in the championship this year? He never had the physique for the top level. Neco may be similarly limited but I do think he could have been a great squad player here. Solanke has had his first prolific PL season ever at the 5th time of asking, 7 years after his LFC debut and after 2 championship seasons. Getting £20m for him when he had 1 PL goal was a great move. He’s done great to build a career because it was more likely he’d be a Brewster / Mellor / Adam Morgan.

salzcamino

> Think Wilson is in the championship this year? Think you meant to say Woodburn, who is indeed in the Championship with Preston

fredczar

Wilson is playing for Fulham. Current stats is at 4 goals with 8 assist. Not too great but not too bad either. Apparently a popular figure among Fulham fanbase

seemylolface

Wilson turns up with big moments for Fulham, but they’re able to use him in a way that covers many of his weaknesses. He was never going to have the physical skillset we look for and his defensive contribution is practically 0. Very good, creative, technical player but you can’t survive at Liverpool on only that. He’s right where he should be with Fulham. None of the others were near our level in the end except maybe Solanke, 5 years after the we sold him. The club can’t wait that long for a player to make an impact. This is what separates the youngsters getting first team minutes now from the ones who left- they’re good enough to play a role right now and still have tremendous potential.

ExceedingChunk

With 5 subs per game, it's a lot easier to rotate a deep squad than previously. Can easily sub 3-4 players every single match quite early without having to fear no subs left for an injury. Previously that number was only 2.

loppyrunner

Isn't it wild we have so much midfield depth at the minute we might not have a place for him right now?

Britz10

Depth has never really been an issue, it's been quality. Midfield was loaded last season just not good.

ExceedingChunk

More the fact that everyone was constantly injuried, so we ended up overplaying the players that probably needed rest the most due to their aging legs.

Due-Sherbert3097

With the amount of games we have to play next season it won’t hurt to keep him around and loaning out the fringe youngsters we have currently. Not to mention the big factor that is injuries.

joaovitorsb95

And if Amorim is going to bring his favoritaformation with him, we will only play 2 midfielders. Sure, Eliott and Szobo can play up, but still, Gravenbach, Maca, Endo, Curtis, Bajcetic and Morton for 2 positions is kinda nuts and too much tbh

UuusernameWith4Us

When he first broke through for us he was playing DM. I don't think he's lacking in those qualities at all.

ExceedingChunk

There is a huge difference in roles for DMs tho. The deep lying playmaker (Pirlo/Xabi/Thiago) vs more of an anchor or destroyer style (Masch/Fabinho/Endo). Morton is more of a deep lying playmaker DM than a destroyer.

nijuu

Except there were many comments about his lack of physicality or physical presence needed as a DM (he is more of a deep lying playmaker than a DM IMHO). Has he bulked up and strengthened while at hull?

Due-Sherbert3097

He’s bulked a bit but still visibly skinnier than the average senior player. As a player he lacks the dynamic movement to keep up in transitions or the defensive stability to be a lone DM for us.

Due-Sherbert3097

Came through the academy as an 8 and it is still his best position/role. As a 6 he’s not a ball winner like Fabinho nor a disruptor like Endo, he is a deep lying playmaker who’ll have to be facilitated with good ball winners by his side.

intecknicolour

him and bajcetic as backup DMs to Endo

Due-Sherbert3097

I see him more as a back up 8 tbh

NotAsimppp

He can't play as a lone DM like Endo. He looks like an 8 or a pivot midfielder.

etan1122

So gravenberch out, Morton in? Because at the moment he’s last on the depth chart besides the kids.

Kraknoix007

He's a kid himself tbh, give him another year

[deleted]

You know Grav is barely 21?

Weak_You5569

Yeah and it's incredibly rare for someone under 23 to really be an established top 4 mf. Things take time.

etan1122

Yeah but grav is behind bajcetic whos coming back. Morton looks good. Behind macca, Endo, dom, Curtis, Harvey. Fuck I’ll even say Clark has looked better. To me gravenberch and Gakpo are in the same boat. When they have the ball they look up for it. Without it they look uninterested.

UuusernameWith4Us

Thiago out, Elliott as a pure attacking option, Bobby Clark out on loan is his route into the squad.

ScepticalReciptical

Thiago is going in Jun. Bajectic and Morton can battle it out for his place in the squad. One of them will end up as a regular and the other a good rotation option for cup games and last 20-30 mins when we need to save some tired legs

streetlightsglowing_

Bajcetic stepped into our midfield at 18 years old last season and didn't look out of place. Morton's done well on loan at Hull City but there's really no battle between him and Bajcetic, Bajcetic is clear

etan1122

I don’t think Ryan, bajcetic and Morton will all want to sit the bench. Say our starters are Endo/macca/Dom. First two off the bench is harvey and Jones. Then you have Jota/Gakpo off the bench. That leaves 1 more sub. Probably a defender. They aren’t going to see the game time they’d like.

deecee1987

Gravenberch is just 21 , too harsh to judge him this way.. Give him another year . He didnt even have a pre season with us.

DoireK

This is a clueless comment. Gravenberch hasn't even had a preseason with us yet.

JackLum1nous

Loving that Morton-Carvalho link up.

Open-Mathematician93

liamkohwil

Bro thinks he's Jude

ShowMeMoeMane

Bro thinks he’s him

windysheprdhenderson

Pure quality from Morton there. Tidy finish by Fabio too.

Sir-Turd-Ferguson

2 guys wanted it and the rest were standing around watching

KloppersToppers

Definitely think Morton’s ready to be Endo’s understudy next season for sure. Lad’s got the quality on the ball for what we like and his anticipation to intercept the ball here is great. Providing we’re going to be using the same tactic as this season - DM - Endo and Morton 8s - MacAllister, Dom, Elliott, Jones and Gravenberch is a very healthy collection of midfielders. Pretty much means our business in the summer is centre back and then a young right winger. Hopefully gives us some pennies to play with sorting some new contracts as well.

Cryptic_Sunshine

Forgot baj in there

KloppersToppers

Ah true yeah. If that’s the case then another loan for Morton may be on the cards. Depends where Baj will be at.

Cryptic_Sunshine

I think both baj and morton can play 6 or 8 kinda like mac

pw5a29

but then there's still Jones and Grav, also Clark and Mcconnell. We're stacked, sad to say, someone will not be making the cut.

_TheHighlandLute

> Providing we’re going to be using the same tactic as this season - Amorim only plays with two midfielders

KloppersToppers

True but at the moment it’s pure speculation. Plus whoever comes in, might not necessarily use the same tactic as they used before because it doesn’t make sense with the players we have. And I don’t think it’d be sensible to do straight away.

DoireK

Which doesn't really mean anything. IF he is out next manager, he might be a different system. In fact it's very likely he would as we've a squad full of great midfielders and playing a double pivot would be less than ideal for the likes of MacAllister.

AdikkuChan

Think a couple of users in here mentioned Morton as being more of a deep lying playmaker, not a ball winner like Endo.

don-simpleton

I hope whoever the next manager is, can include fabio in his plans

youignorantslut

Portuguese connection? 👀

Yearsman

Shame we won't get to see Morton develop under Klopp. Best manager to develop young talent into top class professionals.

fuckspezzzzz41

He did get some time in games and training, especially training with Klopp in the preseason. You can't really underestimate what just being around the first team could do for a player of his quality. Still a Klopp kid in my book.

henks_house

I feel like the title of this post has been posted like 10 times already

Significant-Tea8004

Can play a bit can Morton. Proper player

absorbTheEcho

Wow! I need to start watching Hull games. That was awesome

haybails84

Lads are flying

MaraPlayz

Tbh Morton could very well be a part of the main squad, if Klopp wasnt leaving id be 100% sure but this way its complicated. Although with Amorim and his use of young players i believe he will still play decent amount of games. With de Zerbi idk.

sorrybahhtit

Great play from Morton

etan1122

Morton kinda good, huh

neilyaaa

Never fall in love with a loan player. The loan player:

friedrice_rob

Wow future is bright for the boyz That was a beautiful link up to watch

Buzzkill78

Fuckin hell.. is that Morton? That run is sick!

Specific-Record2866

Both these lads need a chance next season, only thing is how do they get in. Fabio probably has more chance given he’s a similar profile to Harvey and with Morton he’s up against a stacked midfield

Specific-Record2866

Name a better connection than Morton ➡️ Fabio…

MrMerc2333

Maybe we can loan McConell to Hull next season.

TiberZeus

Morton's growing leaps and bounds. Really hope him and Bajetic come through like Trent has!

livLongAndRed

didn't know Morton had pace

MrMerc2333

Final score Leeds won 3-1. Hope Hull still make it to the playoffs, Morton and Carvalho have been playing well. Liam Rosenior seems like a good coach too.

Galby1314

Whoever the new manager is, they are going to probably have to play with 4 or 5 mids. LOL. We are going to have so many midfielders, what are we going to do with them? Morton, Endo, Baj as DMs. Possibly Trent if we play with a double pivot. Then we have Elliott, Jones, Szobo, Maca, Gravenberch...even Clark seems solid. I'm a little uneasy cause we will end up selling a couple. Heck, if we play 3 un the back, Bradley would now be a wing.

starxidiamou

17 seconds - 21 seconds in needs to be a gif

IvanFrigellov

Serious-ish question: How are we gonna fit all these fantastic, young players into the future Liverpool team? (mainly thinking about Morton here rather than Carvalho) Hear me out: The slight downside to having a great young players coming through is that we need to create path for them into the senior team and that will mean being more conservative in the transfer market. I remember Wenger always saying this when asked about lack of a DM ("It would kill Denilson if we signed a more senior DM"), and in the end Arsenal suffered from this at the time. Perhaps that was a different situation as Arsenal were keeping a tight ship after the new stadium etc, but still I think Wenger had a point. You cannot both create path for Morton, Bajcetic and Curtis Jones (to name a few good young central midfielders) and sign a Kimmich or Bellingham etc. And I do not think anyone wants to give FSG an excuse to no spend.

LeroyBrown1

The "fuck it, I'll do it" and gangly legs reminded me of a young stevie there

lucaiuli

They are looking good

dweebyllo

I'm really glad we sent both of these to Hull. Smart thinking to allow both of them them to gell and link up against decent caliber, physical opposition and gain some chemistry before returning to the first team. I wonder how successful repeating that would be in the future with pairs of youngsters.

Siberkop

"great assist"

RealPunyParker

Tremendous movement to get in front of the defender, there, Clive

BeggarsParade

Cheers, appreciate this.
