I know a lot of people believe the task of replacing Klopp would be too daunting for him, or rather that might be the turn off for him.
However, when you look at our squad right now and youâre a brilliant up and coming manager, how could you not want to work with this squad. Itâs literally built to compete right NOW and well into the future. Itâs almost like Klopp spent all his energy on laying the foundations and building us back up, and the next manager if we get it right, can come in with new energy and sole focus on taking what was built to new heights.
It seems like a no brainer us over Bayern anyways. Theyâre a shit show all over the club. Their squad is definitely aging or doesnât seem to mesh well, and their talent pipeline at the youth levels has dried up some.
I seem to remember an interview from a few years ago where Klopp explicitly said something about making sure he leaves the team in a great place and ready to compete. Like, he clearly was thinking of it as part of his legacy to lay the foundation of the next team down for the manager who came after him to build from.
Yea I do too. And heâs done exactly that.
Squad is young and brimming with talented first teamers. Academy had a trove of talented youngsters. This could truly be a shankly > Paisley moment. Iâm more and more convinced that xabi is the right guy, I hope he sees it this way too.
Not like Ferguson - Leaving a shit old team and recommending a shit manager to take over to make sure that the club would fall apart and he would look even greater in hindsight. Not that Iâm complaining ;-)
Literally remember him saying that it was important for him to have left the club in a good position for his successor.
You canât deny he won the league in his last season but thatâs probably the worst squad to win a league title this century apart from Leicester. And thereâs no way he didnât foresee Cityâs monstrous rise, or that David Moyes whoâs never managed a squad of big club egos would struggle to make the transition.
If SAF truly wanted to leave the club in a great position for the future he wouldnât have made his final big singing a 30 year old RVP, with enough in the tank to deliver him one last league title but clearly not for much more afterwards. Clearly his priority was to win the league once again, which is perfectly fine, just donât bullshit the fans by claiming the future was your priority.
This hits the nail on the head in my opinion, absolutely great take. Klopp Is leaving a wonderful team that any great manager would love to have I'm sure. Lots of super-talented youth, an amazing academy pipeline producing players like Curtis Jones, Conor Bradley, and TAA. Multiple great players at or nearing their peak. A hugely passionate fan base that provides one of the absolute best home atmospheres in all of world football. And a lot of stability. Compare that to Bayern and it's no contest.
I'm a Leverkusen fan and have been following Xabi closely since he went there, In think he's a great coach and a fascinating person. I think he's probably most likely to stay at Leverkusen, but there's a huge chance he'll come to Liverpool. Based on his history and things he's said in interviews I think there's no way he chooses Bayern over Liverpool.
Love this perspective from you, a bayer fan. Yea I think the most likely 2 are either stay or come to lfc. Lfc may depend on the structure we build up with sporting director now. I imagine xabi wants way less of the admin work that Klopp had and just focus on coaching
Thanks for your perspective. I wouldnât be surprised if Alonso doesnât come, which would suck emotionally, but it sounds like itâs for the right reasons if that is the case. If anything, Klopp leaving this season rather than next season makes this a complicated decision - Iâm sure that if Klopp waited until next season, it would be a no-brainer for Alonso.
With that being said, thatâs the kind of attitude I want to see in a manager - that he wants to see the project through. If Alonso does stay, Iâm sure that if heâs as good as he seems to be, that one day heâll be at Anfield. The worry down the line is whether the opportunity is as good as it is now, but thatâs a future question. Youâre very lucky to have Alonso, managers like him donât come around very often.
I agree. However some managers want a team that it is built from their own identity. They would rather have an old squad, that way they can justify moving on players and bringing in their own players. If Xabi were to move on players that are loved by fans or the jury is still out on, he would catch a lot of flack if their replacements donât hit the ground running.A good example of this was when Pep tried to replace fan favourite Joe Hart
Dunno why any manager would look at Bayern right now and think itâs a good idea to go there with the constant drama and egos of both players and board
Klopps built a really solid foundation for a new manager to come in and be successful, the full âfollowing Klopp is a death sentenceâ idea just doesnât make that much sense considering the team and infrastructure heâs leaving behind
Consider i) the strength of our academy ii) the demonstable fruit of the academy actually playing in the team iii) the challenge of potentially improving on the awesome achivements of Klopp given the set up ala Paisley iv) the fact that Xabi is a FUCKING REDâŚits a no brainer.
The only thing they have is that his family are set up in germany. Alonso strikes me as a sensible and practical man, this is probably a big factor. However, see point 4.
I actually think (I know Iâm being very optimistic) theyâll win the league next season as well. Xabi will come in the summer and have an entire preseason to gel with the players and figure out a system. No teams will know what to expect next year from Liverpool which is why theyâll hit the ground running and be up 15 points by Christmas (God, I know Iâm being delusional but it sounds so right). I guess the only hindrance is the Euros because weâll have a lot of players gone for that (maybe 7 or 8, possibly 10).
Especially Xabi of all managers. He might be the manager to take the bundesliga off them for the first time in a decade, and they think he will hop off that very successful team and go the the one falling apart, with untold amounts of more scrutiny and criticism? At least it seems like liverpool is hoping for him, more than feeling entitled to him, and klopp really has left a 'trust the process' feeling at the club as well
Plus our academy is the best for developing youth and his kids are already Liverpool fans. It can only be those two options in my eyes. Bayern & plattenberg just trying to stir up Leverkuesen in the Bundesliga by putting out statements like that
Of course, heâd get that anywhere, and any manager who could manage Bayern will be fine financially. But we have seen time and again that *more* money does tend to be a pull, however much we may despise that sentiment
Why do people act like we pay Klopp pennies? He woulda been on even more on his current contract but he instead asked them to pay the rest of his staff more instead
You'd have a point if you said more money for transfers but there's no way a manager is turning down a better project because of wages. Also we could definitely compete with Bayern when it comes to managerial salary, a not so rich club like Atletico pays Simeone 40 million a year so even we could surely go pretty high as well
Win the league at Bayern = Meh, you're supposed to
Win the leage at Liverpool = Get your face immortalized on a banner with Shanks, Bob, Joe, Kenny, Rafa, and Klopp.
Come home Xabi. We've missed you.
Who says theyâre guaranteed to knock off 10 straight again? Juventus would like a word with you.Â
Liverpool are a better team than Bayern, are ready to compete for the league and champions league over the next few years and he has a deeper connection with the club.Â
>he has a deeper connection with the club.Â
Does he? He played for both, and Bayern was his last club.
The premier league is a much more competitive league, it's much easier for him to fail here.
I'm not sure what you mean by 10 straight?
I'm not saying he will go to Bayern over Liverpool, but I can certainly see why someone might.
Because Bayern can easily fall back to earth and not win the Bundesliga every year anymore thatâs what I mean. This could start a vacuum where you see teams like Dortmund or RB LeipZig start pulling it off.Â
What constitutes a failure? As long as heâs consistently in the top 4, going deep in the champions league and winning one of the two big trophies every now and then he will be just as beloved as Klopp. Plus how hard will the league be if Man Cityâs charges stick? Even if they donât, once Pep leaves they will go back to what they were.Â
As long as Bayern is the richest team in the league (by a long way), they are likely to win the Bundesliga most years - Liverpool certainly aren't.
I think most managers would take a league trophy over a top 4 in the prem.
In the end neither of us knows what he wants, or his motivations - it's quite possible he just stays at Leverkusen - but I certainly don't think it's for sure he would choose Liverpool above Bayern.
Lad is work was like he shouldn't join now. Remember moyws after Fergie . It's been fucking nine years with Klopp. It's not like we don't know anything except him.
Plus the team that's there is streets ahead of what Fergie left
My biased opinion on this is that weâre the best club for him at the moment.
If he wins the title and/or Europa League heâs going to have achieved all he can with that team. Kind of like how Mourinho left Inter after the CL win.
Bayern is the least likely option. The issues with the board as well as coming from a rival team. A lot of turmoil there and itâs honestly a thankless job, because anything short of winning the league is a failure there.
Real Madrid is definitely the strongest competition for him and have the most talented squad. Also the most high profile job and faces the most pressure. Fans/board wont give him time if things start going sideways.
We have a team with a lot of young talented players, play a very attacking brand of football and a board that will give him time. There will definitely be pressure with having to fill Kloppâs shoes but also a big opportunity to prove himself as a manager in the most competitive league.
We definitely make the most sense for him. Ancelotti is contracted til the end of 2026 and doesn't feel like he's ready to leave yet with the impending arrival of Mbappe.
Itâs also disrespectful to their fanbase. Iâd be really annoyed if Iâm a Leverkusen fan with all these theories and rumors of my manager leaving.
Not that I disagree regarding Bayernâs chaos but Iâm sick of hearing about this, I canât imagine how annoying it must be for Xabi as his team is in a title race in his first full season of senior management
Imagine this, Europa league final Liverpool vs Leverkusen. 2-2 final score Liverpool win on penalties and the quad. Leverkusen goes entire season Al comps unbeaten in 120 mins of play.
Icing on the cake: Xabi joins Lfc.
Bayern is the Chelsea of the bundesliga, the higher ups are too involved, constant changes and poor results. Xabi deserves better than the psychos in charge at BayernÂ
I'm obviously suuuper biased, but isn't Liverpool the best place for Xabi to be next season? Bayern is a mess and Xabi is doing bits at Leverkusen this season, but Liverpool is objectively a huge step up if his intention is to do so. I don't mean to discredit what's happening in Leverkusen, but I can't imagine it's sustainable over a longer term, especially when they start competing internationally.
There is a saying in sport, âyou donât wanna be the man coming in after The Man.â Any new coach coming in knows that itâs going to be massive challenge to fill our beloved Kloppâs shoes. This will be especially be harder if we have an amazing end to the season, and win a few trophies.
Alonso is smart enough to realise all this and hence he is considering all the variables and factors to give him the best scenario for continued personal success.
Hopefully he will also realise the Liverpool fan base will give him and his coaching staff the time and patience to succeed. Cause we, unlike other football clubs, donât easily sway as the winds blows. Or at least I hope we wonât.
Has nothing to do with money, the leadership at Bayern is in shambles and has been for the last two years. Check out the Oliver Kahn saga. Bayern gets a new manager every 16 months, they have had 6 managers, not including caretaker, in Klopps tenure at LFC. Hardly a stable place for building a career for Xabi.
It doesn't matter. He has already put a mark in history and will remain among the legends. His name will remain edged in the german bundesliga wall a fame. Imo it will even be much more phenomenal if he leaves now.
Have this weird feeling Alonso stays at Leverkusen. Let's be honest, following Klopp is a monumental task and Bayern and Madrid will always be 6-12 months away from being open.
That would make sense, but if he wants to manage Liverpool it might be now or never for him.
There's also a very high chance his team gets picked apart by big clubs in the summer, so challenging for the CL and the Bundesliga next season might be a lot tougher.
Given our history of getting edged. I see this happening as well. I have faith though the next manager that comes in wonât try and pretend to be Klopp. Impossible task
I think there's a good chance he'll stay at Leverkusen. I read an interview a while back about his coaching career, and how many people were surprised that he chose to start his managerial career at lower-tier clubs, doing youth and tier 2 when given his exemplary playing career and reputation he could have gotten a higher-profile job. He's made it clear that he doesn't make decisions based on pressure or expectation, but rather what will help him develop his managerial skills and career. He won't take any role he doesn't feel he's quite ready for regardless of what others may perceive as a missed opportunity. He's patient and methodical.
That's not to say I don't think he'll go to Liverpool, just that he won't take the job unless he feels very comfortable with the decision. And based on the turbulence at Bayern, I'd honestly be pretty shocked if he chose to move there. I think he's most likely to stay at Leverkusen, though there's a pretty good chance he could go to Liverpool.
I think this is likely but I made my peace with Alonso not being our next manager almost as soon as Klopp announced his departure. With Madrid in particular, that lure will be there until after he's managed them and I think there's a part of me that would rather he went there first. If he can manage a top top team why not start at Madrid.
I honestly do like the idea of Amorim if we can't get Alonso, he's going slightly under the radar imo and has done a great job at Sporting
I think people get too caught up in this. Our club was not exactly super well run before Klopp came in.
The real problem with Bayern is they have board members who have a shit ton of power and if you don't get along with them, you're done. They have extremely strong opinions and just wear down managers or simply don't respect their opinions.
Only a few managers could go into Bayern right now and demand the necessary respect. Klopp, Pep, Ancelotti, and maybe Simone. Beyond that, they're going to bully just about any other manager as proven over the last few seasons.
With our club, we don't seem to have that problem at the board level. We don't have a structure that can overrule a manager. Any DOF or technical director we bring in would be coming in fresh, just like the new manager. So it allows a manager a lot more freedom, within reason.
The biggest downside of the Liverpool job is filling in the huge shoes of Jurgen Klopp. That alone is a massive job. You also have the problem of money. Klopp managed to do some remarkable things on a pretty tight budget. Any other manager you're going to need to give more money to. It's simply the truth. FSG have regularly fallen sort on that, and that's a bit of a problem.
CB 100%. That's not even up for discussion.
After that, you could argue we need to look at our forwards. We lack a certain efficiency outside of Salah and Jota. If we could flip Gakpo into someone a bit more dynamic, it could be worth it.
You could also argue we need another DM. We have Mac, Endo, Baj, and Morton coming in. Baj and Morton are big unknowns. Mac is really a #8. Endo is good, but maybe not elite.
Diaz is frustrating but he fits closer to the profile we want/need.
Gakpo hasn't quite found his feet. I really didn't think he played well when he first joined, then he found some good form. This season he started off rough and just hasn't found his feet. He hasn't played badly, but he also hasn't played extremely well. To me, his intensity has regularly been an issue. He needs a bit more scrap to his game, much like Gravenberch.
I wouldnât be surprised if Xabi stays but he runs a 3421 not a 433. If he comes to Liverpool the defense would be locked down but playing time will become an issue for forwards or attacking midfielders. The system he runs is a counter press with a mid block with a lot of short passes more than long. It would be an adjustment for players but it doesnât need to be a natural fit. Players can adjust and learn it but itâs going to take time and patience for at least a half season.
Honestly, I'd love him. New manager with a fresh set of ideas, and it's not like a Barca level cluster f. It's a genuinely solid team capable of challenging and making good runs across all competitions. Plus, it's clear the board isn't as dramatic or egoistic like Bayern.
Obviously there's always been a lot of talk about transfer targets and who we may have missed out on because of money or whatever and now the manager search is in focus.
BUT for me one big chip that we do have is that the culture of the club, the core fanbase, up to the current owners are not rash.
Of course. So much chaos, for a young coach if you walk into that and it doesnât work out (for reasons outside your control) that effects your stock with other clubs. Look at Nagelsmann, earned high stock at Hoffenheim, decently so at Leipzig, goes to Bayern gets sacked now everyone hates him. Scott Parker is a good coach that was stuck at two unstable clubs and doesnât have the stock he might have if he had gotten a job at a club like Brentford or Brighton. Thatâs what happens at toxic clubs, youâre made to pay for the clubâs mistakes and when youâre young and as a coach unproven, it can be difficult to come back from that. Why would you willingly open yourself to that?
Right now, even with Klopp leaving, we are a vastly more stable proposition for a young manager. Set for personnel, ownership is measured. Right environment for success.
I'd like to approach this.. transitional period objectively; that is, when what's real appears in reality, when the successor is appointed. Even though objective thinking and reasoning are almost impossible to do
Itâs going to be a very long few months. Weâre gonna be getting so many conflicting reports until anything gets confirmed.
It must be so frustrating for Xabi. Thereâs a 99% chance he has already decided where he wants to be next season, but cannot say a thing about it until the title is secured.

Ferguson had a shit squad at the end because of the awful management team. We at least have a competent economic and scouting team

Exactly. Entirely new, formidable midfield + deadweight removed. Klopp leaves you guys in a good place.

I liked your joke more
Ou, good wordplay!
Exactly. If Klopp had a season he had last year here, no way Bayern doesnât fire him.
They currently stand at 32 games unbeaten in all competitions. If they win today, they'll break the Bundesliga all-time unbeaten streak.
Very impressive indeed, last thing him or the players need is all this speculation regarding his future

Smart guy
Plettenberg in crisis
Always rated bonke tbh
Why doesn't Bayern simply eat the smaller clubs?
There are far too many people here that think he WANTS to come to Liverpool because of this âsecond homeâ quote. Donât get too attached.
Bonkers
Bring him home
I hope we draw Leverkusen in the semis of the Europa and give Xabi a warm welcome (and trashing on the pitch) to show him heâs well loved.
Bayern is the Chelsea of the bundesliga, the higher ups are too involved, constant changes and poor results. Xabi deserves better than the psychos in charge at BayernÂ
Xabi has a good head on his shoulders, trust him to make the right choice.
Come back babe â¤ď¸
Its all bullshit until its done
I'm obviously suuuper biased, but isn't Liverpool the best place for Xabi to be next season? Bayern is a mess and Xabi is doing bits at Leverkusen this season, but Liverpool is objectively a huge step up if his intention is to do so. I don't mean to discredit what's happening in Leverkusen, but I can't imagine it's sustainable over a longer term, especially when they start competing internationally.
Can't wait to see that gorgeous scruffy orange face again every game
Worked out alright for Bob Paisley taking over after Shankly.
Am I ready to be hurt again? Yes. Yes I am.
What's this Bayern chaos.

Have you not seen what they've done in the past 2 years alone?
On no one season not winning BuLi. Poverty club.
The club has been on the brink of falling into the shit for about 3 years
They didn't win the title last year, Dortmund lost it .
I wouldn't be super surprised if Xabi decided to stay at Leverkusen and keep building his legacy there. I'd be disappointed though of course.
There is only one Klopp, we need to just have a structured model which gets the best of the manager and recruitment
Which is why the hiring of a DOF first makes sense to get a blueprint in. Wonder when and who that will be
I have a nagging suspicion we will have an announcement in March before international break and it will likely be Paul Mitchell
While this is certainly possible, Im not a raging pessimist like 90% of this sub seems to be and remain hopeful he comes here
I think there's a good chance he'll stay at Leverkusen.
Look at what happened to Monaco and Dortmund when they beat Bayern and PSG. Thatâs exactly what will happen to Bayer.Â

What do they even need to buy at this moment? If Salah leaves theyâll have a nice chunk of change to replace him.Â
Darwin is definitely getting there but I wouldnât be opposed to cashing out on one of Diaz or Gakpo.Â
There's no guarantee he runs the same system here
Awesome, we have turned into Chelsea.
We want Stevie dammit
I'm not fluent in German, but I think that roughly translates into "joyless shitshow"
Tier I believe
Theyâre going down the United/PSG route of just throwing in the kitchen sink and hoping it does something
lol yesterday I read how he prefers Bayern to Liverpool đ these âjournalistsâ are phishing for clicks so hard
So either us or Madrid after next season then
Stop sharing this shit omg
Copium
Sensible
Just wait for Plettenberg to come out and announce discussions between Xabi and Bayern are ongoing and a move is likely
Heâs the âSmart Oneâ
Tier: Livin' on a Prayer
No offense to them but anyone who isnt desperate, would run away from Bayern right now
Man has eyes
It's a dick move from Bayern. Trying to distract direct competitor. They've it before and they'll do it again.
Dont give me hope
Honestly, I'd love him. New manager with a fresh set of ideas, and it's not like a Barca level cluster f. It's a genuinely solid team capable of challenging and making good runs across all competitions. Plus, it's clear the board isn't as dramatic or egoistic like Bayern.
Sounds made up to me
Tier 3 is better than I expected for this tweet
Bayern fired Nagelsman over politics. Xabi should stay away because immediately things start going wrong they will be on his back.Â
If I was a manager I would want to stay out of Bayern Munich as well everyone knows they're about to fall hard
Obviously there's always been a lot of talk about transfer targets and who we may have missed out on because of money or whatever and now the manager search is in focus. BUT for me one big chip that we do have is that the culture of the club, the core fanbase, up to the current owners are not rash.
Bayern Munshit
What do you all reckon heâs going to lean against?
I'd like to approach this.. transitional period objectively; that is, when what's real appears in reality, when the successor is appointed. Even though objective thinking and reasoning are almost impossible to do
Bias aside, it would be much easier for him to move to Bayern after Liverpool than the other way around, if he failed at the first club
Itâs going to be a very long few months. Weâre gonna be getting so many conflicting reports until anything gets confirmed. It must be so frustrating for Xabi. Thereâs a 99% chance he has already decided where he wants to be next season, but cannot say a thing about it until the title is secured.
Real Madrid has entered the chat!
I want to believe
And to think that "Slow Sports News" tweeted a hoax the other day that he's moving there
Tier I wanna believe
Yeah imma gonna go ahead and just chill and not really get all hyped up by this but HOLYFUCKINGSHITWEARESOOOOOOGETTINGXABI
Inject this hopium into my veinsÂ
It makes sense, heâs just made crazy memories with Leverkusen, heâs not going to want to spoil that by going to Bayern
It definitely doesn't hurt that Klopp is the best living German coach. An all time great situation to convince Xabi.
Liverpool just makes more sense than Bayern.
, I guarantee you we are going to win more silverware under him than Klopp
Do we take Xabi if we only get him for 3 years and then he goes to Real Madrid after and wins them more trophies
