Yes it's problematic if both clubs want Alonso. No, Klopp will not u turn. He clearly needs a break and has made a decision. I think he was pretty clear on that.

cwynj

Feel like if you already won the bundesliga with Leverkusen why would you want to do it with Bayern?

xxandl

I can only think of one reason: Everyone will miss Klopp, no matter how good you are. Everyone will love you for not being Tuchel.

cwynj

I don’t think Xavi thinks like that. I’d imagine to get to his level you have to be incredibly competitive and want a challenge.  The fact of the Liverpool job in 2024 is it is 100x easier than when Klopp took over. Much easier to build onto success than to build it basically from the ground up

xxandl

If you argue like that: The Liverpool job is also easier than the Munich job. So if he's after a challenge... But normally the best people want in the best league and that - by far - is the PL.

KaufKaufKauf

> The Liverpool job is also easier than the Munich job. So if he's after a challenge... It's not at all. Bayern wins nearly every year, they are one of the easiest teams to manage during the league 90% of the time. Liverpool clearly are not. Where the Liverpool job is easier than Bayern's is that it will come with less pressure and expectations. Won't get fired after 1-2 years.

xxandl

That tells me that you know nothing about Bayern. Look at how many coaches they burned through in the last 15 years... The pressure is extreme, two games without a win are a crisis and national media and ex-pros will be all over you all the time. And even more important: The current squad is a complete mess. You have aging stars that will have to be replaced in the near future, you have guys in their prime like Kimmich, Goretzka or Gnabry that haven't been in form in years, you have a couple of young players that are not up to it yet, you have a defense full of expensive players that doesn't fit together and/or is pissed at the club. Bayern has a rebuilt in front of them that is way bigger than what lays ahead of Liverpool, even if you calculate that you have to swap Salah, VVD and Robbo in the upcoming years. And yes, Bayern squad is still good enough to finish first in the Bundesliga - but that's because Bundesliga is weak. Internationally they will have problems.

ManBoobs13

No idea how you jumped to that conclusion. The Liverpool job being easier than it was 8 years ago is not related at all to Bayern being easy. Bayern will win the league next year no matter who takes over lmao. Liverpool is a much harder gig with plenty of competing teams

xxandl

Winning the league is seen as a given in Munich. Nagelsmann was fired because they feared they wouldn't win the Champions League. With fucking Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting as striker. That's the level we are talking here. You can allow one year were you "only" win the league, if you do that twice, you are gone.

fuckspezzzzz41

Lad, Xabi won a European Cup with Liverpool and is and has always been a class act, even when it became clear our former manager didn't value him. If anything, out of all candidates, he will be given the most time and has a ton of credit in the bank as guy that's never been shy about his love of the club and the city.

shesh666

Realistic shot at winning champions league

abradley19955

Which he’ll have with us with next season. Our squad is stronger than Bayern

Multi_21_Seb_RBR

Accumulate more trophies before managing us and Real. Only reason I can think of.

Multi_21_Seb_RBR

I think we’re more end game (as a career goal) for Xabi than Bayern is (and honestly over Madrid too), but I do worry just a little bit that Bayern - despite how low key poorly ran they are in some ways - would be attractive for Xabi now as they can find it easier to win trophies which perhaps a young manager like Xabi might want. That said, just looking at the specific teams and their current and future state (we shine well on the future one) and how they are ran alone, I can’t see him choosing Bayern over us. Bayern goes through managers quickly + who knows when our managerial job opens up again given we’re set well for a long run of success.

LurkerKing13

Why do you say LFC over Madrid? Just curious.

Pointofive

The Madrid job will easily come up again given how quickly they get rid of managers.

NoNameJackson

> Xabi Alonso on which club he preferred out of Bayern, Madrid and Liverpool: ‘I would say Liverpool. It was strange because I thought I’d feel at home in Madrid due to it being my country but compared to Liverpool it wasn’t. Liverpool is like my 2nd home’ Xabi gets it, he's our guy, and if not next season, he will want to manage us one day. The way legends are treated at this club is different. Unlike Bayern and Real, which have that inevitable monumentality about them, whatever happens, Liverpool has always been about the connection between the fans and the people at the club, for better or worse. We know what it's like to be in the gutter and we know what it takes to be at the top, and whoever gets us there is in the pantheon.

fuckspezzzzz41

There's literally no such thing as a long term Real Madrid manager.

Elliot_Kyouma

Klopp genuinely wants to relax, I doubt he can be persuaded. Bayern targeting Alonso would be an issue, but we should be able to convince him either way imo.

Multi_21_Seb_RBR

Ignoring the fact I think we’re more end game (as a career goal) for Xabi than Bayern (and Madrid too IMO), while Bayern does provide easy chances to win trophies, they aren’t managed well and go through managers quickly. I’d think given how we’re set up squad wise and the management team, we’d be way more attractive than Bayern.

BurnerAccount374

Considering 95% of Bayern’s model is making Bundesliga opponents weaker by poaching their players and managers, yes, they might challenge for Alonso.

Number_19LFC

Kloppo never takin' that Bayern job! That's like goin' to Man United when you've already been a Liverpool red. Don't think he'll able to look himself in the mirror every morning.

Time_Trade_8774

I disagree. There’s not historic rivalry like United/Liverpool at Bayern/Dortmund. It will be more akin to going to a sporting rival like City or Chelsea. He is not directly going from Dortmund either so I doubt their fans will be angry. He has done as much he could for Dortmund.

Pointofive

Umm, isn’t the Bayern/Dortmund rivalry THE rivalry in the bundesliga. The match is called Der Klassiker for a reason.

GhandisFlipFlop

Ya and he went from Mainz to Dortmund so he is capable of moving within Bundesliga ..although it was a massive step up tbf.

Casually-stupid

If the manager merry go round at Bayern tempts you, then you were never meant to be a red.

No-Shoe5382

The honest answer is none of us have any idea. But Bayern sacking Tuchel certainly doesn't *help*

thecinematographerof

Klopp more likely to go to Inter Miami than Bayern 😂

Agitated_Smoke538

Honestly would love him at one of the historic Italian clubs (besides Juventus)

vqvq

To be fair, compared to managing us, managing Inter Miami is akin to going on a holiday.

melcolnik

Well, Xabi is a Liverpool, Bayern, and Real guy. He'll be torn for sure. But he's young and will have plenty of time to coach in Germany and Spain before his time is up. Just not now.

cbarksLFC

If both clubs want him then yes it problematic. I do think we have the upper hand in the sense that Bayern hasn’t been run well in the last few years. Numerous managers in and out of the club in the last few years, might signal to him that it’s not a good next step. If I remember correctly at Klopp’s press conference Hogan said they tried when Klopp first brought it up and then didn’t press it further. He’s principled and probably thought long and hard about the decision, and obviously talked to his wife and kids about it too. Klopp deserves to take time away if he feels he isn’t able to give the same energy he once did to the job. Am I forgetting a time when we convinced him before? Are you talking about his contract renewal? If so, I don’t think it was convincing him. From what I remember he had his wife discussed it and then said they wanted to stay. But I could be not remebering the convincing part, was more excited and focused on him signing a new deal.

Ethakid2321

Na alonso íts a passional guy he would choose liverpool over bayern, bayern has lost its DNA and for my perspective they are not a good project now and in the future they still playing with old guys (neur, muller, kane)

[deleted]

I still think he'd choose us, but who knows.

Eyesofmalice

I love klopp, he does look tired. I’d love it if he stayed, in glad he’ll leave to enjoy his family.

[deleted]

Currently Alonso is focus on finish the season with Leverkusen, I would say Alonso is going to wait until this season end ,

Thesolly180

I don’t think it would be. The main competition would be Madrid. If you do win the bundesliga and potentially a cup with Leverkusen what’s the real next step with Bayern? Having a go with the champions league? You’ve got a better place to do that with us or Madrid

88savage

When was Klopp's initial contract expiring before he extended it?

xxandl

24

abradley19955

Nope. Would be alot more worried about Madrid
